To the little girl that help me build a house.

I was Jay, I never got your name but you came asking if you can help me build. We spent years building a home and finished it off with the base of a bell tower and a hitching post. By this time you were bearing children and you asked me to name your daughter. I named her Chichi.

Our village got attacked by a bear and our life long work became a bear prison, keeping the village safe, whilst we frantically crafted one more arrow. Age caught up with me but in the end I was ready to take on the bear. I got a shot in but only one. He chased me down and got me right before I starved to death. I hope that he got killed in the end and that all of you were safe again. Hopefully he became the second bear rug in our awesome home.

P.S, I should've listened to you and built that floor under the door.

Ermagerd! I am so sorry I stabbed you. I know that you know it was an accident. I hope your little boy survived but I guess neither of us will know for sure. Again, so sorry, it was an honest and complete freak accident.

Love
Your bro Rook

Eliza

You were the perfect protege and a worthy successor to the Chief Protector.  I hope you served the village well in your shiny boots and terrifying head dress.  Always carry on the ways I taught you and remember, the boots maketh the man. Or woman....

May the Force be with you.

Well we found lots of small farms and bits and bops. Think we were close as there were loads of eaten berry bushes, tools and the likes about. Even a random wooden floor.

Pity we never found it though and even worse that I died just like you. Those darn snakes!

Mom and my brave little girl unnamed Lily, I hope you find this.

I was born the second daughter to my mom who was named something like Shardu or the likes.  She kept me even though times were really tough as she had escaped from a village with a murderer. This she told me whilst raising me and my sibling. We had a small patch of land, big enough for the three of us and unfortunately she could not keep all her children which broke her heart. My older sister kept the farm going and ensured we were all fed.  Mom and I took to smithing some tools and we did pretty well untill I accidentally messed up trying to make a froe but ended with a shovel. Mom wasn't angry as I thought she'd be and simply said we can make more but we have run out of iron. So I said I'd go find us some. Mom gave me her backpack and off I went.

Being the numpty I am, I never had a home marker but didn't realize until after many years of searching for iron ore. I panicked and in a blind rush stopped looking for iron, filled my basket and backpack with rocks (I remember mom was building a well at some point) and started looking for my home.  I was lost, hopelessly wandering around for longer than I can remember until one day, by the grace of my siblings big head that I could faintly spot to the South, I found my family! Mom was grey now. She grew so old. When I had explained why I returned with a basket of rocks and not iron she was her usual loving self and just said 'Welcome back'. I knew the lay of the land now and was determined to get the iron ore we so desperatly needed so I set of again, this time returning shortly with a ton of ore for us!

As my niece started taking over the smithing, mom said she is growing old and that she would like to see what has become of her old village to the South before she died.  I knew that my mom's chances of survival was slim on her own due to her being so fragile and offered to go with. After loading up with food we set of searching. We travelled quite a bit, living off the land in search of moms old village. Unfortunately a dastardly snake lay in wait. It bit my mom, she couldn't even see it coming. When she died I cried so much made a nearby goose pond flood a little. I thought that I would find this village in my moms memory and write about it, telling her what had happened to the place of her birth so I kept going.

Not long after the passing of my mom, I had a little girl. I so hoped that my mother had somehow reincarnated as my child but alas, my child was a fresh soul to the world. I told my daughter of her nan and said I'm on a mission. I kept my little girl and we, as my mom and I in the past, lived off the land, looking for the lost village.  Years had passed and I had to abandon a child of my own for the sake of survival. My little girl grew up and when she was old enough I told her of her home and where her family is. She wanted to stay with me and find the village of her grandmother so we spent more years traveling the land, searching. We found lots of small settlements, lone graves and even the legendary MONOLITH! but no village. I remembered that I had never named my little girl and by the time I realised it was too late. I told her that she was to be Lily and made her promise that she would find her family if I was to perish. And not long after, perish was exactly what I did. Killed like my mother by a snake ambush.

Mom, I'm sorry that I could not find your village. Thank you for your love and patience. Your bloodline lived on in our home.

Lily, I'm sorry I could not stay longer my child. I loved you and your sense of adventure my brave, brave girl. I hope that you found your family in the end. Your life was one big adventure and I hope that you did not succumb to the curse of the snakes too.

All my love.

I only ever abandon boys if I cannot feed them.  To me boys are almost as valuable as girls because of the fact they can be more productive than females (if the player actually doesn't just mong about).

#7 Re: Main Forum » On making and distributing weapons to the villagers » 2018-04-15 14:53:03

Right now it's probably a bad idea and you are better off just putting your trust in a defender or stash a weapon near where you do your business in case of emergency.

I do think that if there were better mechanics in game on the whole murder front, ie either more health or being able to use a weapon after being wounded, that it will then be a good idea in the spirit of self defense.

But too many weapons lying around now is just an open invite for someone to take up murder.

So - you propose more knives in villages? I'm all up for that. So now people will just give me knife without even asking! Or at least I will be able to kill the weakest link with bow to get my knife which is way earier than bow. Nice. Please do apply that in every town you see. So I can bring them to ruin even faster.

Hell yeah! If a wounded person could still use an item after being stabbed/shot I will gladly invite you to try. I think it will be a lot more challenging for you to get away with murder if you just got stabbed back by your victim.

Omg... Nowhere did I ask for or say that you should be able to use an item after HAVING STABBED someone. I have suggested being able to use an item AFTER BEING STABBED. Thus a body-of-a-fetus killer stabs someone = no drop item, slowed movement, no item can be used. The victim on the other hand = wounded with the ability to use items. Savvy?

Talking about reading a statement and not understanding a single letter.

But it's not to say it's completely useless, It's harder for murderers to stealth kill you. You can at least try to warn the nearest people about the killer.

Yep, the idea is exactly that, you take the scumbag with you so that at the very least they don't just win all the time.

I might be a bit too dramatic saying it's completely useless but it will certainly be a hell of a lot more useful just being able to wield a weapon whilst wounded.

I imagine such a mechanic will mean a lot more weapons in the game and most people would be armed. Could make for an interesting development as a society.

I think the point is that if you're wounded and bleeding out you don't have the strength to do so stuff/are busy with holding your open wound. And I find the update to be rather useful, as your speech becomes red and can be heard from quite far away, so that people can come over and witness the murderer slowly running away, thus identifying them and/or take actions against them.

Look I get the whole 'realistic' idea but hell, if that's the case this realism should be applied to everything ie wild food respawns, 10 hours/years for a well to fill again... come on now. Event a murderer being slowed is unrealistic as you will find irl they actually pretty much speed up quite a bit.

There are instances where the rules should be bent a little because it is still just a game an in order for it to work/be balanced certain mechanics must be in play or the whole thing will fail. The wounding is useful to let people know yes, if no one is around or there are no immediate weapons what good does it do? I have seem more murderers get away than actually being caught and they just sneak back, waiting for the right opportunity. We need a better way to deal with these snotbobbles.

I dont have a problem with being able to kill in game. In fact, I think it is a necessity in order to get rid of your infrastructure griefers for a better word. You need to be able to kill that carrot eating, bush digging bastard. You should just be able to defend yourself/village in a more effective way and I think the wounding mechanic will allow for that if you were able to still use a weapon after being stabbed.

There might be better ideas out there and I think it's important we voice them so that we can have a game that doesn't just resort in the same disappointment every life.

And to me it would not be for kicks but more to prove a point.  If it makes me an idiot then and idiot I am.  To me it's far more idiotic doing the same thing over and over again with the same outcome and just hoping one day things will change. I'd much rather take some action, any action to help fuel the need for that change as opposed just keep on getting screwed over.

If you have a better idea, I'm open to suggestions.

So there are still asshats out there just ruining villages for kicks and the game seems to favor griefers even after all the updates.

The new wounding mechanic is pretty useless in my opinion. I have found out recently that when you are wounded you cannot hold/use any items.  You can only run around crying about getting stabbed. Well what if you could use items when wounded?  In my opinion that would be a great deterrent to murders because if you had a weapon handy you'd be able to just retaliate and kill the sadsacks before they go on a murder rampage and wipe out a village.  To me it would at least provide better defense as opposed to having a guard that just gets targeted first anyway.

I know there are other ways to grief but here Im focussed more on the murdering swine.

#15 Re: Main Forum » feedback - state of gameplay » 2018-04-15 11:07:19

So yeah, my cousin who was a co-defender of our little village killed me after many years out of nowhere. My biggest issue is though, even after the update and not just dying straight away you are still utterly defenceless and unable to defend yourself against griefers. I had a knife in my backpack but after you get stabbed you cannot hold anything so whats the point. You can run around and cry murder but to what end?

What if you could hold something after you got wounded? At least then, as in my case where I had a knife, I would have been able to get this sumabitch and that way probably saved the village of this asshole.  But no, the griefer goes on griefing and the people trying to do something just get to respawn a few times over to negligent parents before eventually maybe getting a decent mother and trying again.

I might just turn to griefing too, after all, there is no point to try build up a village that is so easily destroyed.

#16 Re: Main Forum » What’s a good sign to tell if you’ve succeeded as eve? » 2018-04-13 21:08:11

Not walking into a fecking snake for one. Not walking into a fecking wolf for two. Bearing the next incarnation of Master Greta for three though I doubt I have ever been worthy.

Just living a full 60 as an Eve is success enough for me. I have had many successful set ups as an Eve which very quickly went tits up due to less than desirable offspring. Recently I spawned in as the granddaughter to my granddaughter. Freaky shit but I guess as an Eve I did okay that time.

#17 Re: Main Forum » To my Danger Clan » 2018-04-13 16:28:42

Well this was interesting.... Plot twist...

I know exactly what happened to my beloved Dangers.  Spawned back in with you a few hours later and you did not disappoint! Sadly it was not meant to be as we only reared carrot-seed-for-brains females and the only female left was my darling sterile wife. I never asked your name but you were a good wife (much hotter than that other hoe). To my son Julian, I loved you in the end. You did well, the horse loved you and I accepted it even though I don't agree with riding a horse without a saddle. We had no females so I understand (I'm still disgusted though).

I was the very first of this line and hours later also the last survivor. We left a damn amazing little village behind, probably no place tidier and to whomever finds it, you're welcome.

This isn't an issue if your fields are right next to a cluster of ponds, as they should be. So yeah, I prefer kiln over snare, mainly because rabbits will most likely not have babies when you need them so you'll have to permanently destroy some rabbit holes to make pouches. And early thread IMO is better spent on backpacks or second snare than on pouches.

Suppose it really depends on your location as to what will work best. I've found that I had to adapt to where I get spawned as an Eve but mostly the kiln/clay bowl method works for me. Had the most success with that anyway as opposed to doing the pouches. Plus no need to destroy rabbit holes as they generally have babies by the time I get around to snaring the little critters.

I've done the nomadic thing with a basket and sharp stone only. Lived until 60 running around looking for a village.

Your way sounds interesting, I might give it a go sometime.

I started off an Eve alone in the desert. It might have been Mars if not for the lush fields that I was able to find after many years and the death of your first siblings. My dearest daughter Mouse, you were my rock and with your help we soon had a foundation to build upon.  After being established my grand daughter suggested a move East and in the Danger family every opinion mattered so after a quick confirmation check we made that move and we survived! I am so proud of you all and although I cannot remember your names (Being a Danger is all that mattered) I know that the Danger clan was filled with the kind of people that will survive because you all worked together. I'm sorry I died right there in front of you without even a goodbye. My age has caught up with me an although I would have had many more years to help you build alas, I overestimated my metabolism and died reaching for my last meal.

I hope one of you finds me on here to give me peace knowing that you went on and built something great because I expected nothing less from any of you. We were truly blessed by finding that absolute oasis of land and I hope you made the best of it.

Maybe I will see you in another life. I love you all and am the proudest Eve that there has ever been.

So I have been told two different ways to start up a new village.

Some say to build a fire, snares, catch some bunnies and go straight on making water pouches to collect that vital water for your initial farm. Personally I think this is much more efficient in the longer term of setting up a new home but it takes much longer to start since you have to potentially wait for fruiting milkweed to make snares and families to catch them bunnies.

Some say build a kiln, fire, make some bowls and off you go doing single runs of water over and over again. This is how I've been going about my start in a new place and it seems to be working for me but it's inefficient as you clearly can only fill a bowl at a time.

I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts on this are. What do you prioritise when starting up a new home and what do you expect from you first children?  I have seen so many new settlements fail because new babies come in and start doing the most random stuff that is not really needed until you are more established.

Good effort on perseverance of pure hours you had to commit to achieve this however it would have been so much more impressive if you did this without Discord and if it just ran 'naturally'.  That said, I don't think it would even be possible to achieve anything like this without doing it the way you guys did.

Cudos.
