a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Like I said, before it was possible to spawn near your homemarker. Maybe he changed it, haven't played for a while in small servers.
Idk if it's still works but I used to set a homemarker and always died of old age. I was able to respawn to my town every time. When you find your town, put up a homemarker and see if you still respawn back there.
Or try to put down some items in a straight line that will lead to your town.
The game was NOT better in the old days, because player killing was easier. In terms of interpersonal relations it was worse, because one had to be more suspicious of someone wanting to use a tool like a knife or a bow and arrow. If your son asked you for a knife in the old days that you carried in your backpack, you'd sure as heck be smart to feel suspicious and ask them why they wanted the knife. These days, if one would carry a knife and one's son asked for a knife, or a bow and arrow, sure they might abuse it. But, there would be some warning of their intentions if you kept an eye on him. Additionally, he might try to use the knife to kill someone and cause no more than annoyance which can get ignored, and if he's a lone wolf playing stabby-stabby, he may well get ignored. And those tools have good uses, of course, like cutting bread, killing wolves, and killing bears, etc. So much the better.
It ends up incorrect to say the old days were better in respect of interpersonal relations because of the ease of player killing, because of the concepts suggested by say the top of the page "a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building". Or the steam advertisement:
"A multiplayer survival game of parenting and civilization building. Get born to another player as your mother. Live an entire life in one hour. Have babies of your own in the form of other players. Leave a legacy for the next generation as you help to rebuild civilization from scratch. Updated weekly."
When player killing wasn't as hard, the game worked out as further from what that implies than how things are now.
If you still want to claim the old days 'better', because player killing was easier, then you would do best to state the grounds for why you think such better.
Spoonwood, I disagree with you at some points.
Let me offer you my point of view on why the "old days" were in some ways better and more fun. You see, when I first played this game, people died instantly when bitten by a snake, boar or bear or even killed by a knife. We were paranoid going behind trees because the chances of there being a snake behind it was pretty high. When killed by a knife or arrow, there wasn't even a pile of bones in a pool of blood, you just drop dead.
When your mom gave you a name, you had to try and remember it because names and family names didn't even exist yet. Baskets were decaying and carrots that were stored in them, were thrown on empty tiles as soon as they did. It was the wild west back then.
After the death delay and pads being added into the game, that's when the real fun happened. People were stabbed when they ran into a person who tried to put down their knife in the same tile. If your family didn't believe you that it was an accident, you were killed instantly. If I remember correctly, griefers were more like serial killers back then. You had the occasional sheep murdering and tool steeling, but most of the times people were knifed. Usually outside of town, hiding behind a tree and stabbing the first person that came in their sight. If you were lucky, the wounded was able to catch his attackers name and all men and some women went out hunting for the murderer while the younger ones made more pads. Once the serial killer was caught and killed, the town would still tell the story of how they stopped the griefer for years. They would tell the story to their kids and their grand-kids.
Tools and food were going missing ? The town became more vigilant and looked around for suspicious activities, letting others know who they suspected to be the culprit. Brothers saving their little sisters to safe the family line after a killing spree of a murderous group. You were born to a girl who survived an attack from outside of town and who was trying to keep her family line alive. Or you were born into a town that was build in a jungle or had a huge garden full of mango trees.
Compared to the life I have lived the last time I've played, those lives were more exciting and each one of them was different. Now you are restricted by your race and biomes, killing someone takes ages or is impossible if they have too many followers even if they are exiled. Families and towns don't last long enough to even leave a legacy behind.
Stealing, murdering, lying, betrayal, etc. (all things that people consider as griefing by the way) can be found in any civilization at any time. So why not in a game who's main goal is to build a civilization with other players. Why not have all the elements that surrounds a civilization.

I get bored of hearing this lie, especially from people who won't farm or cook. You're just prejudiced against those activities, and lack the creativity to make them fun. I mean, what else can one surmise when one ridiculously claims that there's nothing to do in DonkeyTown, and won't even do those things when there's hardly anyone around to get in your way from doing them.
I got bored doing the same tasks in a town over and over again. How can you possibly say that someone is lying about how they feel when playing the game. Just because you don't get bored doesn't mean that others don't too.
hailerm wrote:... so that what the "griefers" do make this game more fun for all ...
Another falsehood. And it's even worse in that it seems that you actually believe this one in spite of counter evidence. You think people have more fun when they feel stressed out and try to stop you? You went on a low pop server, and people weren't happy with your behavior. You even said to someone, or it was your friend Rey, but I'm guessing it was you, "you are boring to kill". You should have taken that as a clue that you were NOT making the game more fun for all.
Either that or you're straight up lying about why you did such. And if so, then you've failed to answer the question meaningfully.
I agree that not everyone wants to play a stressful game (like hunting down or stopping griefers) but some people, like me, do. To reiterate, there are people with bad intentions in every civilization, so why shouldn't those people play that role in this game. Again, just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean that it applies to everybody.
That being said, I do agree that killing back in the days was too easy and skilled killers were able to get away with murdering an entire town. People who wanted to build and see their town and family thrive were rightfully angry and frustrated. However, some people were telling Jason to fix the griefing "issue" by banning them entirely from the game, adding the curse system, etc. I would have loved to see a justice system put into place, giving us players the necessary tools to capture and bring them to justice for their action. It's a part of civilization as well, setting up order by putting up laws and punishments. Not relying on a single all-mighty man to fix our issues.
I curse my baby when I know it's the same person being born to me and constantly /die on me. Easier for both of us.
I agree, learning on a private server is a good way to learn the game. You are free to build and try out anything without someone either destroying or taking the resources from you.
I had noticed for a while that when using WASD on a road you would go slightly slower than with mouse but now with trucks and sports car you can really tell that moving with WASD is significantly slower than mouse! Is this normal? Anyone else experiencing this and if so is it possible to fix it?
ps: I can't play the game without this mod anymore, it's just too good <3
That has always been the case. I believe that by using WASD on a road, the mod doesn't recognize it and calculates it incorrectly, therefore you keep your walking speed when using WASD on a road. Px will have to have a look at it - eventually.
What about the fact that when you follow the gate leader of another fam, destroy the gate, unfollow the gate leader, rebuild the gate and have the rights to the gate and the old gate leader also has access to the gate.
A member of a black family can ride into the town of the ginger family, follow the gate owner of the fenced in area, destroy the gate with an axe and can take the valuable stored in it.
Anyone who follows the gate owner can destroy the gate.
What Jason says : Fences should protect valuables and prevent outsiders to come and steal them. Followers of the person who owns a property gate have now easy access to it.
What we have in game : Anyone, from any family, can follow the person who owns the property gate of a fenced in area, can destroy it and can take whatever they want, making fences useless.
Running after someone who has the knife so he can finally cut more sheep for meat, my bread and turkey isn't fun either. And I can't make a new one, because I don't have any slots left. Oh and asking someone else to make me one will be also annoying since chances are, I'm the only one in the town who knows how to smith and teaching someone would take too long because I need to keep cooking to keep the town fed and preventing people from munching the berry farm empty.
Even if I had a god's eye for the tools needed in town, there will still be unpredictable events in town. Bears appears in town, biting 3 females. I have no tools left to either kill it, make new or clean existing pads or even use them or the thread to heal the wounded one. If I learn pads and thread in the very beginning at each life, I lose 2 and 1/2 tool slots (pads, thread and hot coals).
Tool slots, in my opinion, isn't really a character skills. How would I be restricted to use a certain number of tools ? In real live I can use any tool in my house without any restrictions. Would I be good at using some of them ? Definitely not. But since I love cooking and tending my little garden, my knife and hoe skills are better than my ax skill. So why not implement this idea in the game ?
A baker, who spends his time making pies, cutting bread and turkey, making broth and stew should have better cooking skills than the 3 year old sitting at the fire and deciding to cook for a bit. He should be able to make better quality food. And while we are at it, professions would great so others can see who the town baker, town smith, town tailor, town hunter, town shephard, etc ... is and see what the town still need as a profession.
Basically, give everyone the possibility to try and use every tool but they can specialize in just one or two.
Didn't she resign ? I think you need to go ask Bob for that.
In reality they came down to ignore them if you are not an vet that makes tech and if you a vet that makes tech, poor vet...
And yes have tons of messages that you dont ever want to read...
They could be implemented in a positive way. Like if you / your close family mastered a tool (100 uses plus). You have more uses on the given tool and you get also a nice matching name like: Master Smith Hans Kelderman. And hungry work cost could be halved and you have a higher change to incarnate to a mother / relatives who mastered your tool.
Please. We all know that it would be Herbert Kelderman the Master Smith.
Ah I see, I understand better now. Thank you for explaining. That does make it easy for one to use someone's alias in the chat. I'll let Px know, maybe we can figure something out
I have to apologize skotch, I saw a person with your name luring bears to town and stealing the engine and accused you. Sry my bad. I'll talk to Px so others can't impersonate others.
According to him it's not possible to take someone else's name.
Shush, keep it down. If we don't talk about it he will forget to re-active it and we can finally play this game with less frustration
Or just give them back the ability to curse with a slight change. Twins can get one curse for both meaning if one of them curses someone, the other one can't curse. However, this one person will be banned for both of them but the cursed person gets only one curse.
Same goes for Triplets or Quads. Give them one curse for the group to use. The person cursed will just get one curse but will avoid the whole group.
Yes I get that, but this all happened when the population was very high. During the new player boom, a couple of days ago and even today. All while having a population between 40 - 60. I got points for my granny but not for my mom.
This happens often when the lineage gets longer, my mom's points and sometimes my younger sister's get lost. Also my own daughter sometimes is shown as my niece, just like Arcucurs. It happened when I was playing as a twin and when I was playing solo.
I had this issue for a while now and idk if it's intended or not.
After a life, the game wouldn't count my mother or some of my sisters to my genetic score. I would have my grandmother or nephews/nieces but my mother/sister wouldn't appear in my gene score.
(btw my sisters were all younger than me but I couldn't find them in my genetic score but their kids)
I had it too.
Also, couldn't satisfy my craving of snipped pickled cucumber. I would eat it multiple times, snipped and unsnipped, but it didn't satisfy my hunger.
Hello everyone.
We hope that you all enjoyed the new update as much as we did. If you haven't had the time to play, then you can read all about it in this article : The Halloween Stuffpack
If you are interested in other guides, check out our recent posts as well.
We are working on some more guides: cooking, smithing, how to start off as an Eve and how to help out your Eve mother, etc. We are trying to make it a place where new players can find help, tips & tricks, and where great buildings can be remembered and revisited.
Thanks for your request, we'll try and get this guide out as soon as possible

Ladies and Gentlemen, People of OHOL, Young and Elders, another Arc has ended, lasting 2981 years!
Two families quickly rose to the top, the Jones and the Posillicos, and even though the older generations declared peace between those two clans, the younger generations were constantly fighting. While the Posillico Family were thriving and counted at one point up to 30 females, the Jones were struggling to survive. Posillico had taken over their towns more than once and those who stayed to live with them, were living in a constant fear of getting stabbed by their angry and blood driven neighbour.
After a serious drought period has finally passed, conflicts between the two clans were still ongoing and the peace between them was now a past memory. And so, war has been declared.
With the years passing by, pleads for an end to the arc have started ramping up and some citizens were starting to hunt down the Jones. Members of the Posillico Family and even members of the Jones were trying to end this family line.
But this family was strong enough to overcome and survive these attacks and started to rebuild some towns to make them their new homes. With time, conflicts and disagreement were slowly fading away, making space for peace between the two households. Buildings were built, yum chains were expanded and the construction of a bell tower was started in a Posillico town.
During this time of peace, the Jones didn’t sit idle in their town and hoped for a peaceful life. No, they prepared. The once weak family, dominated and hunted by the strong and powerful Posillico clan, had become strong enough to initiate one but impressive attack against the other family, ending their line and this Arc.
It was the Jones, who in the beginning had to suffer many setbacks and difficulties, who was thought to be the one who would die out but who, in the end, was the one who heard a distant bell rang while standing over the corpses of a once powerful and feared family.
Another Arc has started, another Eve widow is open. Which Eve will raise a new strong family able to survive until the end?
Happy Eveing everyone.
