Nice. Maybe a quick trip to donkey town will teach them how to play nice with others
Yeah or he'll just get a refund and never play the game again. 99% of the people doing this are new who dont understand how to be useful cause nobody taught them. Playerbase condoning mass cursing/banning for new players who act out of line is one of the reasons the player-base is tanking even in the middle of a pandemic.
I think we should all try and breed as many animals as possible before Jason gets back. Let's see how many moving animals the game engine can handle!
The_Anabaptist
I think we got enough mindless animals being breed in villages as it is, no point in adding helpless sheep to the mix.
SOMEONE leaked that it's going to be a naturally spawning resource and that it wasn't game changing.
I'm assuming it might be the purple snails he said he was going to add at some point. We'll crush up their shells to make purple dye.
Thats feels more like a fix then content, id like horizontal upgrades to the tech tree like watering cans, cooking fires, anvils, etc.
It's based on luck most of the time. I just played a life where we had enough food and I had to look after a lady in a coma to get a baby of the next generation. Towns usually die when the player count drops.
Another thing ive noticed pretty dumb is how big towns can absorb all the servers babies, for a ton of reasons:
1. Higher number of Yum foods - More % of babies
2. More Clothing - More % of babies
3. Higher Population - More women to have a % of having a baby
4. Appeal - Bigger towns attract people for alot of reasons
You gotta make alot of assumptions to take the data at face value, so many factors involved in how long a family lasts, most out of your average players hands so its hard to blame any one person for any kind of falter.
The reason Cars arent viable is because they arent replaceable. When horses go missing theres 3 others waiting for you, when cars go missing theres 3 horses waiting for you, not another 3 cars. You could make cars complete god tier but so long as they are easy to steal people will never use them.

Even twisted without a zoom mod was top 1 recently.yea its not that hard, just look that the basic run in the town like farming and cooking....
I must be on hard mode or something cause i got no clue how yall get up there.
testo wrote:I hate being a leader, I started to use /die to purposedly tank my genescore and avoid leadership.
I like leaders that just let things go with their own flow and only give small orders in extreme cases.
why not just pick one and follow him?
I mainly use the command system to warn about Bears, or to thank or to ask the horse person to bring some stuff if there is no other horse, its so difficult otherwise to catch him.
Its funny to be born as baby and some minute later to become leader, happend especially in the first week, now all have higher genes so its harder to become a leader ....
The exile i never needed to use and never one asked me for it.
Currently i see it to hard to fight back against an evil leader.
Possible solution would be to always allow to fight back against an attacker, so the leader can choose with exile when the fight starts, but he does not automatically win the fight without proper support.
Also the leaders (subleaders) gene score should be affected for all that auto follow him, he should becomes responsible for the auto followers. so the gene score of an evil leader or one sub leader who follows an evil leader would tank fast.
Bruh how you even get a high meme socre? Mine gets tanked by sid babys and dumb people 24/7
Are people regularly being overwhelmed with too many babies?
Because if so, that should be fixed, and that would solve this problem.
There is going to be some variability in how many kids each person has, due to various factors (player population change vs time of day and such).
This might be as simple as adjusting the birth cooldown to make it longer (remember that your cooldown is reset when you have a SIDs baby).
Here's an example of high variability, where one gen 3 had 18 babies, and gen 4 had only 4 babies.

But we really can't give too much control to players about "not having bb", because the incoming bb do need mothers.
If half the mothers opted not to have BB at all (for gene score reasons), then the remaining mothers would need to have 2x more BB to keep up with incoming players, or we'd have to spawn a ton more Eves to take up the slack.
This is supposed to be a game where 99% of players are born as helpless babies. The game isn't supposed to default to "eve mode" except in very rare situations.
This is a game about being in the middle of a chain.
I think we need some stats about how many BB each person has.
Home Sickness already gave players birth control. You cant enter your village between the ages of 14-39 but so long as your not jeopardizing your score alot of players think it worth it. The current system encourages to not just have a few children, but none at all, they are a gene-score gamble that people just arent willing to take. I cant tell you the amount of runner babies or new player starvation's ive had even though i tried my very best to look after them and end up tanking my score.
The main problem i see is theres no hindsight for edge cases like people that tank scores on purpose, or when you only have 2 girls, but they go on to have 3 kids each and as a result some of them starve.
Jason says to take care of less kids, but besides leaving a homeland there are no ways to directly affect whether you have kids or not.
Example A: Sally Has just had 2 kids, Tim and Diane, Sally doesn't want anymore kids because she wants to be a good parent for the ones she already has, yet in order to not have anymore kids and risk losing gene-score she has to stay away from the very kids shes suppose to be a good parent to via the homeland. So as a result she lives out the rest of her life as a hermit in other towns hoping her children are still alive.
Example B:Lets say Sally had her 2 kids and decides that even though she might have another child, she wants to be there for her kids and take care of them. A short while later Sally has another baby, lets say this baby is Bob, now sally has to divide her attention towards 3 people making good parenting harder, but wait, now bob has a little sister and her name is Mary. A couple more babies later and Sally is completely overloaded, theres no way she can take care of all these babies with the attention they deserve and as a result, some of the newer players/babies starve to death or run away and starve. Now Sallys daughters have had several grandchildren and at this point Sally has no control over the situation whatsoever. She tries to convince one of her grandsons to not run away and starve and gets a mindful "fuck off" before dying of old age.
Get what im saying here? People wanna be good parents towards the 1 or 2 kids they DO have, yet with no way to control births so any that do choose to stay can end up getting punished severely for just doing their best. As a result the only way to save your score and be a "good player" is to just not have kids at all and leech of the backs of your mother and grandmothers scores, which isnt really a good determination of how good of a person you are to your village.
Out of those 3807 people theres only 10 at the other half of the graph, kinda hard to make assumptions about anything when its about .002% of the people you are using from the sample size.
Plus besides a noticeable downward curve at the very start alot of this is quite sporadic with no real correlation.
I mean alot of these restrictions were based off community feedback, so really its just all yall's fault for making the feedback to begin with.
"Yum still motivates selfish behaviour"
Not really if you make a yum food with more than 1 bites you don't need the other bites of the food, it is more efficient to make another yum food and let the leftovers for others. In a perfect world, people would make yum foods eat a bite and trade the leftovers with others to both gain a new yum food.
Thats a matter of convenience, short term gain over long term gain, i get to have a full hungry bar now, but ill need to eat more later.
And if you dont got Hewtu where you just hold down y to automatically highlight yum foods not eaten yet, it can take a time filling up a fully grown adults hunger bar.
Something ive done to combat this is create a yum box or cart that i fill with all kinds of yum foods, then just go over to players and say "do you want yum?" No need to look around for yum foods as a new player when a person already has 10+ items waiting for you to eat!
Pretty self-explanatory, and i know everyone has something they deem a priority over the rest of the variables but with all that in mind. What variables have priority over others, by which i mean, what makes a great village great, and a good village good? Where does your short time have the biggest impact?

The fact that engines can be removed from a well and scrapped is malicious development. It's a slap in the face to players. There's no reason behind it, just a huge fuck you. The modern fossil fuel tech is already unsustainable, you don't have to be such a dick about it jason.
I can understand the basic premise "oh i made too many of this engine part and i need the steel back, so let me scrap this one part" But seriously, a entire engine, where is the foresight on these kinds of things?
And its not like he was quick to fix the issue as soon as people reported on it, ITS STILL IN-GAME ahahahahahah.
(I haven't seen "Bobo griefed my town" threads for some time so it seems like the situation is under control).
Uhhhh: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9794 thats like the third post up top...

Players can't follow an in-game father.
Parthenogenesis.
This is a horny hill to die on.
Hey, you would be cranky too if you couldn't reenact your favorite P0rnHub video with your step sis in OHOL.
From a anti-griefing perspective, the game is abysmal, it relies on groups of random individuals to come together to do something complex, most of said people who dont even know the mechanics exist.
On the other hand this is great for people who wanna grief because it ensures that any kind of counter to their organized group wont be able to become a real threat before everyone gets stabbed to death.
Curses only serve to hinder new players and get circumvented by griefers easily, i saw a guy in-game who was talking about how he made it so no matter how many curses his account got, he would never be sent to Donkey town, and thats just one of the ways...
You would think after 13 updates to the killing system would be the nail in the coffin, yet its only became easier.
Small fixes like stackables and bugs getting adressed are nice but with the weeks upon weeks long of content starvation i cant really say the game is in its BEST state lol.
Basically it comes down to the leader and exile system being too complicated for an average group to be able to defend itself when the leader is a griefer.
This aint exactly new info, the killing system has been like that ever since posses were added...
This is the experience of a new player:
wow, I have seen the trailer for this game and you can create robots, cars and laser guns! (enthusiasm)
game one: starve to death
second game: your mother abandons you in the middle of nowhere
Game Three: Someone is trying to teach you, but he is from a different race and you don't understand him
Game Four: Curse You For Growing More Berries
Game Five: The water runs out in your city and everyone commits suicide
Game Six: Your lineage has been wiped out by an update
Seventh game: BOBO devastates your family, and you can't do anything
Game 8: check the really ohol cars
Game 9: you check that neither robots nor laser pistols exist
game ten: you see that in the game everything revolves around food and not starving
eleventh game: you check that the game is boringWhy worry about teaching a new player, if this player will disappear in a matter of days?
Player retention relies solely on the players themselves, they decide whether or not they wanna stick it out in the end, and no amount of hand-holding or bartering is gonna change that.
the real reason for hungry work was griefer protection, idiots cut down trees to make a single shoe out of it, sometimes they go for the closest green ones, which is really sad
also makes tree walls less viable, when they look good and function as a wall, and give hourly branchesthe wood minigame could and should be more complex, like more stages of growth, more work with them for more resources, wood could be an important resource almost as iron and water
What about only hungry work when in proximity of your village? So you cant directly grief trees meant for branches and tinder, but if you legitimately wanna get wood for a project you would be better off doing it in the wilderness where you wont get the debuff.
Geez, are all the content updates hidden behind these giant walls of text?
You should try it karltown, I really think this game is better than ever before. Of course for mod users, I don't know if it's that enjoyable for vanilla users.
I mean, except the griefing part, Bobo is effectively ruining this game.
Yup, and kudos to Jason for saying he wont stop it LOL.
Jason's priority right now is focusing on the core game mechanics. To paraphrase him he wants to make sure the game is in a good place structurally before he starts adding anything big to it, how long that will be i dont know, hopefully before the game dies.
