I know that is the point of the theme but the question i'm posing is that is that actually fun for most players as individuals?
Was too much of the player experience sacrificed for the meta and theme of the game?

If you've looked into the Dev's previous work you'd realize he's probably the kind of guy who has no problem doing this.

The real issue I believe is that there is no real end game for any player so far. There is no civilization or anything for players to progress to. The trailer released for this game proposes that the game could get to a point with automobiles, roads, and futuristic technology. But the dev isn't even 1/10th finished with the content so much as ironing out the bugs since launch. I'm sure one day there will be huge automated domestic areas full of renewable resources decreasing the infant mortality rate. (At least I sure hope this game makes it that far)

So for now you can make up to steel tools and maybe some walls and a house if you're well enough off.
But also realize this game is entirely opensource with customizable servers so anything is really possible.

Most of the time I run naked. Not because I dont know how to make clothes but for the simple reason of... all milkweed in the area being destroyed by misinformed people (this is common in "youtube tutorials" - pick flowering only) or just by trolls. Without it I can't snare rabbit, I can't sew clothes... Its gg.

Also - the need for milkweed is horendous. You need 8 milkweeds just to start fire. 4 more to snare a rabbit. and 2 more for each clothinng piece. Oh, and Did I mention people making water pouches instead of clothes already?

Seriously, Too many times have I had to spend the majority of my life securing a carrot farm, then planting 10 milkweed just so I can have a full rabbit fur outfit and provide the resources for a future generation to make clothes more efficiently. I know this is the whole philosophy of the game to provide for the next person. But too many times do I feel my efforts go entirely in vain.

I believe the game updates when you Log in.

The dev said something like that in one of his posts, if you click binary.txt in your ohol folder it should say the version and the day it was built.

Earlier this morning I was spawned into a fairly large farm. There were around 3 women and 2 adult men.
The farm had roughly 15-20 tilled rows and carrots were becoming somewhat scarce but the women were working hard to reproduce

Me and two other children were brought onto the farm and I had figured trapping would be the best use of my time for the extra food and to clothe everyone.
After I had trapped about 15 rabbits and was getting prepped to cook and skin all of them, I take a second to check our carrot farm.

To my absolute horror every single carrot had turned into a seed as no one had taken the time to transfer the carrots to baskets.
We had no food and no ability to reproduce and of course we all perished.

This brings me to my new greatest fears
could surplus in civilizations be an even greater threat to collapse than before?
Before if there was a surplus in a society it often lead to everyone doing their own thing and neglecting reproduction until it was too late.
But now if there isn't at least one farmer and a constant surplus of baskets/berries/soil it could mean huge consequences.
For either the current society or future generations who will need to find fertile soil or the ingredients for compost.
It also means we'll be on constant 24/7 noob patrol for people eating berries willy nilly instead of using them for compost.

Thoughts?
