Jason some of these people (ie Rage) have like 200 hours played and are asking for refunds. Come on now. You owe them nothing.
Except you cannot gauge intention through a computer screen.
You have no idea if the guy is doing something to make you mad or someone else mad.
Maybe he hates the town itself. People getting mad is just a side effect of his hate for the city.
I have no idea what will make you mad. I could do something with good intentions but it was perceived by someone as ill intentions.
If there was a 10 commandments of life in OHOL or something you guys would have a case.
The big problem is any definition of griefing is a construct of someones opinion because there are no hard rules in game.
You can say I THINK the following behaviors are griefing but you cannot say they ARE because there is no law.
Once this is understood people should be able to do what they want with their short one hour life. Do not feel pressured to do ANYTHING ever. If you get stabbed for it... its ok move on and try again. (Or just stab or snowball the guy that wont let you play your game!)
Before you tell someone what to do ask yourself:
Who are you to tell someone what to do and why?
Why kill them over something that does not directly effect your enjoyment of the game?
Why not let other people fulfill THEIR DREAM of what their hour should be?
Just because someone does not play YOUR game does not make them noob, griefe, RP berry eater ect
If someone wants to waste a shovel making a beautiful graveyard who CARES. If that was THEIR DREAM who am I to care so much that I will stop them? If someone wants 30 Yum and grows and shovels potato who cares man.
Your children and the children of others are not your property. They live their own lives with their own desires. Why not respect that?
The world needs all types of people, different strokes for different folks.
Note: Using my same argument for the controlling people justifies their playstyle too.
You are under no obligation to have their goals. YOU DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEM!
Trade some fun for efficiency or efficiency for fun.
There are two major elements to this game:
Building and Working
Social and RP
Mix up your ratio between them for a varied game experience. Try a 100% social life some time. Try a work life. Try things in between. Travel the untraveled path.
Remember sandbox games are only as fun as the people playing them.
Find what fun to you and do it.
Dont worry about what other people think you should be doing.
Someone built the "hardest" to craft item in the game and there are no congrats for the guy or anything!
I'm going to toss my support in for the Apocalypse, and offer a Congrats to whoever finished it or worked on the one that was finished!
Whoever achieved this worked very hard, much like the rest of you did on the cities. His or her work was down a different path on the tech tree and nothing wrong was done.
Some people want to build a car or plane, some people like building endstones.
They are all crafting recipes, I cannot understand why some recipes are OK and others are not. Nothing lasts forever, there is no guarantee that anything you build will be there in a day or an hour even. The stories and narratives last forever, perhaps that is what we should focus on as opposed to the permanence of our creation. The next anal town will be just as cool if not moreso, but at least for sure it will be different.
I look forward to trying to contribute to the next generation Apocalypse when it comes.
However, I would love some stats about the apocalypse after it happens:
Who finished it?
Who were the endstones in the structure?
How many endstones were made total from last apoc to this one?
And some other random stats would be very cool.
Hi, I was the "troll" you talked to on discord.
But please, I was not the snowball murderer.
I am truly sorry I offended you so badly with my advice to block off the snow pile.
I too used to get really mad playing this game when people would do things I didn't want them to do.
I feel that people need to take everything a little less seriously. For your own sanity, your personal and emotional investment in the game should only be one hour at a time, with no promise that what you build today will still be there tomorrow (or even in five minutes from now). Your kids have no obligation to desire the same goals that you have. Everyone has their own life to live.
Griefing is, to some degree, implemented by design in this game. Its evident in every mechanic the game has.
Snowball, Mining Pick, Knife, Adze, Bow and Arrow... you name it it can be used for good or bad.
In towns once the starvation pressures have been solved the only remaining element to bring us down is each other. To counter this there are methods available to either control the weapon supply or simply block off snow piles in this case. Selective population control has been discussed in this thread. Consider though, if we only progress forward we would stagnate in end of tech-tree towns and soon become bored with the pace of new content. This is because the players play through in hours what Jason makes in weeks. No shot at Jason he is a one man team.
Remember that the towns that do get built are spectacular. And frankly its incredible that anything gets built at all considering how easy it is to do evil.
Death by snowball has a specific cause of death leading me to believe that this likely is one of the intended usages for snowballs. They can be useful for disarming griefers and cooling down people. I agree there should at be a murderer flag associated with throwing them because of the developing snowball griefing meta. Snow piles should probably also deplete when repeatedly used.
Disclaimer: I am not defending griefing, I just understand it exists and I pass no judgement on the "good" or "evil"
