I mean you are right, and I don't really blame you for stabbing him but I doubt whoever was playing as that dude had any real ideal what they were doing and I doubt they learned.
If being called out as a rapist and stabbed to death for it does not get the point across then I doubt more talking will help.
People who don't realize it's a real thing that happens to people think it's fine to make a joke of it and they will say "lighten up" It's kind of a huge communication disconnect.
That behavior is something abusive people do, a type of gaslighting. Offending people and then insisting it was only a joke and the offended person needs to get a sense of humour, is an attempt to stop the abused from defending themselves. It just adds another layer to the abuse.
Know who makes excuses for rapists? Other rapists.
Naa. Maybe for an ideal work place and one baker, but bakeries get littered with all sorts of stuff people bring in and drop to get food, plus baskets of mutton and firewood. If you have multiple bakers then you need way more squares. If they are making the new foods then even more squares are needed. Prawns are best prepped and cooked outside someplace but people bring them to the bakery anyway. Wounded people come to the bakery too (or get murdered inside the bakery) so it is a good place to store bandages and thread, that takes a few more squares including space for the bones of those who are not healed in time.
I build a bakery with the consideration that it inevitably will become a nursery too: it is warmer from the ovens, often it is the only place in town that keeps a fire going and it has food readily available to the moms, especially the moms who go gray while nursing their last kid need emergency rations. (hopefully popcorn not pies.) It's like with house parties, people often congregate in the kitchen.
Once the moms move in, a small bakery becomes useless because half the squares are littered with clothes, food, firewood or bones and people are standing in front of the items you need to work with. Old people often come to the nursery to say goodbye and give their stuff to the babies, they die there.
On the plus side, the moms will help keep the fire going and sometimes (rarely) help to bake, or guard against theft.
(More often they wont even bother to pick up their sudden infant death trash babies. )
You can ask the babies to become bakery suppliers, some will be new and looking for a job.
My bakery design is a long rectangle with a stone square for permanent fire and nursery at one end and ovens at the other. Ovens need to be a few squares away from the wall to allow storage boxes and baskets of uncooked pie to sit behind. A horizontal one is more efficient in terms of people standing, not hiding workplace squares, but a vertical ones with doors in the middle, have better traffic flow.
I usually keep one basket of cooked pies outside, and bring one to the nursery but if you keep them all outside they are vulnerable to greed and griefers, especially since the property walls update and hoarders.
I was in a town where some of the men were making this weird bobbing behavior behind the women, standing on the same square. I felt uncomfortable and asked WTF? A nearby woman said "he is f*cking you." I called the guy a rapist and he made some joke about increasing the birth rate. I stabbed him. My daughter stabbed another guy for the same reason a few moments later. Was glad I had given her my spare knife. I do not recall if I cursed him too.
Sexual assault is not funny. It is never funny. Who ever thought raping women in this game, would be funny needs to get their head examined.
Statistics show there are 12 year olds playing this game. If you just assaulted a 12 year old, congrats now you are a pedophile.
Statistics show that 1 in 3 women have been raped, and and a fair number of men, for them it is most often when they were helpless children. If you are assaulting someone who has traumatic history, they will for sure not think it is funny at all.
If it is the kids who are doing the raping, I got no regrets about teaching them to respect women, even cartoon women who might be male irl.
Sexual Assault is not a funny joke, under any circumstances.
We really should consider making hiding things impossible - or create ways to find the item when looking for it. A highlight or an arrow if you are close to what you are looking for.
It already has that. Mouse over a tree, anything hidden behind it, the shape will be highlighted through the tree and you can pick stuff up. Nothing is really hidden if you have a bit of patience. For corpses, you need a basket but any stuff they died with will get scattered to nearby squares.
I mostly use it for finding rabbits when all the more easily visible ones have already been hunted. The highlight is clear enough you can tell if there is a baby. Same for reeds.
I did not see how it ended, I got trapped in a locked room with a hoarder who was chasing me around with a knife. Heard a lot of screams.
People were building fences around public buildings and claiming them for their own, stealing public tools and resources and hoarding them. Someone even let the sheep out to have some wander onto their property, and the properties themselves were empty because the owners were out stealing more to hoard... and in the meantime the hoarders did no work on the town, they contributed nothing. They were too busy stealing and building fences. No-one could get anything done, people who were there to do work and enjoy building the town were getting frustrated.
I started a communist revolution. Hoarders names were on the gates. Dead hoarders own nothing, and their gates open.
Do you think it was fun for the people you trapped? I doubt it by the way the daughter told you "die old hag." Your son Jesus chose to die to get out of your cage. Does it seem he was enjoying being trapped? Obviously not. The definition of griefing is causing grief to others and that is all you are doing, it is selfish to ruin other people's game time for your personal amusement.
I've played this game a lot since I bought it a few weeks ago. At first it was addictive. I loved how there was a lot to learn in order not just to stay alive, but to help the community I was born into survive. In the lives where I was born into well functioning cities, I loved having the time to explore and learn new things.
But now I think I'm falling out of love with this game.
Yup. Bought the game 5 days ago, played a few dozen games and the bloom is off the rose, tired of it. Four days ago I liked it enough to post about it to my fb but I am going to delete that entry to spare friends the frustration and wasted $.
- Tired of getting murdered. Last game, I was 57 and my daughter murdered me for my backpack. I had already given her baby all my clothes and was saying goodbye. She could not wait two minutes for me to go gracefully of old age? I thought, F.U! and ran off to the woods, died hidden behind some trees. When people turn out to be jerks I am less motivated to be supportive. Second time I have been murdered by one of my kids. It isn't fun it's just disappointing.
- I am on windows, no mods and completely frustrated with the nearsighted view and constantly getting lost if I venture out of town. One time I had a sapling cut and went out looking for a round rock to make a marker, (instead of borrowing one in use.) Had to run from a bear, got totally lost and spent the next 15 minutes trying to find my way back to the settlement before dying of snakebite age 27. What a waste of time. Setting home should be easy as the /die command (which I have never used) and being able to set a few bookmarks would be great. I like to be a forager, (have a cart, bring back the resources) but even with a home marker, step a few squares away from my cart or basket, make a few detours around hazards and I might never find it again. I have done wilderness hikes, far off the beaten path and never gotten lost. Primitive people at least had the sun, stars and normal vision to see where they were going. Give me zoom, a minimap, something to indicate relative position. The game is based on a grid, a simple x-y coordinates distance squares from birthplace at the top of the screen would be client side, no download.
Spiritually, I have visited the dead in hell dimensions that are an infinite wilderness of isolation where you cannot see more than 10m ahead and there is no sun or shadows to navigate. This game feels far too much like that, too often. Sociopath's hell... but at least there, you don't find all the "dumb ways to die" because you are already dead.
- OMG, so repetitive. Have mercy on my carpal tunnel, for I was a teen when Pong was invented and will never be able to keep up with the kids who got their first gameboy at age 5. I accept that, but it is nice when creators have some sort of casual mode for the gently handicapped. Farming bores me out of my skull, 50 minutes of repetitive stress and aching wrists. Baking is a little better, nice to feed people even in virtual but usually there are already people doing it and they are territorial. Spent hours reading wiki and forum trying to upgrade skills, did the tutorial twice, asked people to show me but at this point I have lost motivation to continue learning the tech.
Visit the next town! Yea I tried it twice, second time ran from a slaughter, got lost and decided to walk the 2k to the next town. Left as a young man, arrived with two minutes to say I made the trip before dropping dead of old age. Considered trying to tame a horse for another shot at it, but I know it is just going to run off everytime I stop to pull a carrot.
Last night I gave up trying to login after about 15 minutes, it kept failing. I took it as a sign to give it up, it has ceased to spark joy. Going back to secondlife where I can talk in complete sentences, build anything I want without starving, and not have to be or have a baby again. Even DOOM was a better creative outlet, when I got bored of playing I looked up God mode and lured the monsters into the jail cells to make a monster zoo.
Right now, it seems far too easy to kill off cities and lineages by destroying pens, murder by snowballs, luring in bears, and all the innovative ways griefers find to end civilizations. And, well... I'm getting bored with it.
I was charmed by Jason Rohrer watching the videos before buying, but after playing and reading this forum my opinion is reversed. I wonder if he watched some youtube "get rich quick" thing advising to start selling a product before it is finished, and use the excuse "Too busy creating" to bother with any sort of security beyond what protects his own wallet. Skip making any effort to ban some ip addresses of persistent offenders intent on spoiling it for everyone, pretend it is all part of the game.
Set it open source so somebody else can sort out the bugs, then get pissy when someone makes a mod he doesn't like, because it does not match his 'vision,' regardless of how much it enhances player enjoyment. Reading about the upcoming desert upgrade... I don't think he cares about player enjoyment, he is the George R.R. Martin version of "Dumb ways to die" smashing us all like beetles. Kung, kung, kung.

Sorry to be so negative, hopefully it was also, humorous. Really, not up for any debate. Yes I already know I am a lame gamer.
