I just ran around twenty minutes trying to find a juniper tree, and I failed.
You do realize that the game economy is fucked without the ability to make fire. Almost all food needs fire, tool production needs fire, this is actually quite smart and of course Jason forgot to make chopping down juniper trees hungry work.

Pls Jason reset the damn thing, even if you aren't going to patch anything since you are on vacation.

currently its very well possible that we are never going to hit the failure condition naturally

hmm yeah the game is reaching a dystopian state. I wonder if Jason will intervene or not, after all he announced that he's on vacation.

Part of the problem is that the rift makes systematic griefing so much easier, since you can find weapons just lying around everywhere and everybody knows where the towns are.

Compare the current state to the situation months ago when villages were still wildly separated and griefers were limited to harming only the place they were born into. In contrast to this you can now just /die a few times - get born as an eve wander the map a bit to find the required sword and go on an entertaining killing spree with all players on the server within your reach and no one can even curse you.

I am not sure how to fix this, but my suggestion would be to limit the amount of families based on server population and then to only spawn eves once the number of players has exceeded a certain number (I am pretty sure we already had this once so it shouldn't be difficult). This would make forcing eve status impossible and thus remove the killer eves from the game. This would also make families last much longer while avoiding the problem we had when the eve window was completely closed with just one family taking over the entire rift.

I believe larger, longer lasting families would somewhat reduce the griefing problem. For one thing you could curse a larger portion of the server population, thus making the only moderation tool more effective. Also it would make peace treaties and language learning meaningful, since there is little point in making a treaty with a family if it will be dead in a generation.

The caveat to all of this is that OHOL might die despite all efforts, simply because the basic premise is unworkable. This case is made by RedComb here: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … d=7563&p=2

also important to mention that the monument is directly in the center of the map. You can use it to orient yourselve, since there are two bell towers there your home marker is almost certainly going to be set there.

very interesting!
What strikes me about this is that the number of families and eves is so high.
I would say that on average there are roundabout 15 families on average and seventy people online on average. That gives us on average less than five people per family, which is in my opinion simply too low. At that number families aren't very resilient and lineages are constantly dying out and being started again. This is reflected on the family trees site where the longest lineage of the day is now only 25 generations long and of the five only two are alive at the time of me writing this.
I think the number of lineages should be capped based on server population, so that eves can only spawn when the number of players per family is above a certain threshold. On the other hand, I would base failure condition on something like life expectancy.

Hey, I just finished the second bell tower also I removed the pine tree (didn't fit imho).
Last life was kind of schizophrenic, I was a Ming. I killed an eve, then adopted her child, then i forged the bell out of two recycled crowns, then after I finished the bell I went on a little murder spree in the center with another Ming.

I kill them every time.
In my last game in the Falls Family I spent my time building a wall and killing all intruders that came into our perimeter.
We had 6 instances of these 5 were eves. I killed all of the eves using Bow and arrow. Another case was a woman on a horse cart with fancy clothing.
In this case she was actually stealing from us. My son stabbed her. Great Guy.
Anyways foreign eves present a double problem:
1. a mortal threat to your progeny, since you can't curse them
2. resource competition
In the long term killing them is always the safest option if they get in.

I honestly don’t understand why so many people seem to think civilization building = mostly peaceful. In my mind the total opposite is the case, after all you can't write the history of civilization without war.
My interpretation of Jason’s vision is that he thinks the threat of violence is what makes people band together and organize politically. From this standpoint introducing war swords is perfectly logical if you want civilizations to develop. Of course, whether or not it will actually work is a completely different question.

I think its kind of interesting how thanks to  /die the infant mortality in this game matches (okay probably exceeds) the infant mortality in primitive societies.

i was a louviere and a hawk woman tried to steal from us
then she came back to kill, she got two but was then stabbed herself
i stayed in the town the whole time  but some guys may have went out to get revenge
