I have no idea who you are. But you sound like an elitist by telling someone new that they needed to proclaim they are new to be helped out. I didn't feel entitled to anything. I just wanted to know where some skewers were.. god Damn. People like you are exactly why I will not play this game again, so you can call me entitled or whatever you want, I literally will never speak to you again, and I'm ok with that. I'm simply active in this thread because people think I'm lying, and I will defend my integrity when I know I did not deserve to be treated disrespectfully or called a liar by a bunch of people who have no clue what even happened.

It is not about being elitist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite By definition an elite has a power or supremacy. By definition every player in this game as the same power.

So no. Drop elitism in your head.

You say you have 30 hours and 2 weeks of play and can´t find a skewer. Please leave this game alone. Thank you.

Gladly. I was in a gated town without access to the gates btw, at least from what I had scouted earlier. Apparently they were taken down later, but I wasn't keen to it. In fact, one was being build and I accidentally mucked it up, so I put it back together for fear of annoying anyone (how ironic). I know where skewers are and how to get them, but I wasn't able to access outside of my town. Sorry, not sorry. I feel like you're just trolling me so I won't bother with you any more. Again, it's people exactly like you why I won't be playing this game. In fact, this is my last interaction with the community. For those of you who felt some sort of sympathy / empathy, I appreciate it, you are good people, and I hope you continue to enjoy playing this game, because that's what games are for. Enjoyment. When I run into people like Mr. Morti and Mr. testo here, it is no longer enjoyable for me, and that's fine. It's a personal choice. I wish you all well, take care. Remember, we only have one life for real, so don't be an asshole.

Ok so I was able to watch it (it was very long as I had 2 previous lives in it) - however, I don't feel comfortable sharing due to the fact that my e-mail and game code is clearly visible at the beginning... is there a way to remove that part?

Essentially, on recap and seeing again, I was minding my own business (farming for stews), missed an opportunity to have ownership of the South gate (I was working and not paying attention). I started asking someone if they had seen skewers because they wanted to plant milkweed and I greenbeans, and that could be done with a hoe (which I didn't know about at the time) or a skewer. They then went off to try to make a hoe but couldn't accomplish this (I didn't know why they were doing this as I thought, again, that I could only use a skewer, remember.. I'm NEW). I then asked for skewers saying "Need skewers, hardcore" -- to which Morti here, who was working on building a road quite quickly exclaimed "go get them" ... and I said "that's helpful" and then he said "North" & "go find some" & "lazy fuck" .. my friend then came up and said they couldn't make a hoe to which I said "here's a hoe" "she's making this road" "and being rude" -- to which Morti then started to flip out, calling me more names with the adjective lazy spread around and then something about my "low low IQ" and that I need to play Overwatch, I literally did not respond other than trying to defend myself about what I had done so far, and then called him an "asshole" after much berating from him and then "fuck this town", cursed Morti for being an asshole, and starved.. Before I did someone told him to kill me. I really don't mind sharing the footage, you'll see I clearly did nothing to warrant the hostile responses I got. I just don't want to share it with my personal e-mail and my game code so clearly visible at the beginning.

There are indeed.

and immediately someone tells me to go find some (I can't leave and there are none within the gates) and that I'm a lazy fuck.

Barnaby, I told you to try north. And you remember your response? You do. Don't lie. You began to insult me.

I'm going to stop you right there. I think you hastily said check North and then IMMEDIATELY started calling me lazy and to find some myself and getting everyone riled up (again, despite not being able to get out of town anyway). If all you had said was "Check North" there would have been no reason for me to be upset about anything, I don't get upset over someone telling me to check in a certain direction. It's what you immediately started saying afterwards, and you're conveniently ignoring that you did, and blame me instead.

Morti wrote:

And no one else told you to fuck off, just me, because you insulted me for not telling you exactly where you could find saplings.

That is not true, there were at least 3 others also joining in. It was the last game I played so I remember clearly.

Morti wrote:

We had a small grassland south, that I had fully explored, and a large grassland north, which I had not fully explored. I was working, and I politely responded to you, and in return, you flipped and started insulting me for what? For not telling you exactly where you could find skewers? I was working nonstop that life, as I often am. I stay busy and mind my own business, that's what keeps towns alive; work. You said you were looking for skewers, and I didn't know where to find them, but I knew that, so I wasn't about to stop and have a chat with you about why one thing was not nearby. If I want something, I get it. If I really want it, I might run for 10 years, just to find it, only two run back home for ten years.

I was not an elitist jerk to you until after you began to follow me and insult me.

I simply told you to try looking north.

And there were no gates on the north and south fences, I had long since removed the rope after they had decayed. I turned that rope into more useful things. The gates were not there and they hadn't been for quite some time.

I wish I knew how to record games because you DID NOT RESPOND POLITELY. That's a huge load of bullshit. You immediately attacked me and called me lazy. I didn't know about the gates decaying because when I had checked earlier they were being built. You are trying to make this look like you were so nice to me and just simply told me to check North. Dude, you're delusional. You were immediately rude and then started insulting me, questioning my contributions and other people then joined in.

Morti wrote:

And I didn't tell you to go play Apex Legends, lol, I said Overwatch, not that it really matters.

Middle school behavior regardless.

I'm not apologizing as I did not lie about anything, and again, I do not plan on playing this game anymore so why would I apologize to a toxic player that made me feel the most unwelcome out of anyone else in the game and was nasty for absolutely no reason other than I'm new and wasn't elite. I don't remember starving, but it's possible because I was so busy trying to defend myself, I thought I had been killed since I died so abruptly. When I died there were several people saying nasty things to me, all that you started.

I think you are confusing tool functions, hoes and skewers do the same thing, turn soil piles in shallow rows and shallow rows and double soil piles in tilled rows.

When a crop like beans and corn leaves shallow rows you need to soil it first and then till with either item.

I wouldnt be surprised if people thought you were trying to make a bow and arrow, which takes skewers

That's fair, I did not know you could use the hoe after you resupplied dried out rows with new soil. I thought it had to be the skewer, that's the only way I've ever seen it done. In fact, I did not know that they were interchangeable, I only ever thought you needed a hoe to START the rows, and then a skewer to MAINTAIN them. Still not a reason to call me a lazy fuck and kill me, IMO.

to be fair yeah
he has holes in the plot

first of all you don't need skewer for stew
to plow you can use hoes and possibly he missed out on some, and im sure if others argued they had iron at least

I am new, I do not know what you mean. The soil was already spread out with a hoe, but it was dry after picking the plants. I've only ever seen people use a skewer to get the soil fresh again for replanting. I'm a newb, admittedly, so I'm sorry if I missed something obvious

pein wrote:

i seen people going for soil and when i asked her she was new and didn't knew about composting. turned out she didn't wanted to look bad so when i asked about compost she said not sure. i spent teaching her how to eat stew and pie, possibly that gonna save him/her in next games.
the faster you compost the more dumb ideas they get
like expanding berry farm cause "we got no food"

I do not know how to compost, but I just focus on one task during my entire "life". At first I really enjoyed hunting, I grasped that immediately and would always seek out family dens and make clothing for everyone, eventually I learned how to do all of the basics, so I started doing some road building, animal keeping, grave keeping, all the really small jobs that go unnoticed in a town. I started to advance more, and actually contributed to making a pump for a dried out well (I gathered the rubber from rubber trees and mixed with sulfur, etc). In this particular game I was confined inside my town due to not having ownership to any gates and was content with my little plot of land in the town to take care of, so that's what I did.

pein wrote:

and when i ell them they shouldn't do that and why they either quit or they want to kill me, that generally ends up them being dead or me quit that life

lot of people are useless in fenced towns, and make life harder for those who work
lot of people got the attitude of sponging the whole life and talking around while others feed them and they don't seem to comprehend how much work is to ake a city and keep it up

there is always some girl who is looking for some trouble, follows you and tells stupid shit then gets pissed

honestly you got no option causee this rôle players find you, provoke you and they spend half of a life to be butthurt, and they come in groups
and if you say something negative they get their stupid excuse

im sure he waasnt the fault but im also sure he missed the solution

Again, it's possible that I did, but how am I to know that? Think about it. How am I supposed to know something that I don't know. It's illogical. My boycott on this game is because the community I've encountered is way too toxic. I'm looking to enjoy myself when I play games, and I will avoid games that irritate me. End of story.

Something just seems off in that story

No, like, legitimately I minded my business the entire time. I was actually raised by my Aunt (Lis), and I noticed there was a lack of food, so I started working on stews. It was a mob mentality. I asked the wrong person at the wrong time apparently (he was working fast) and it was a simple request. He started aggressively berating me and everyone just sort of jumped on. I tried (briefly) to explain that I was just simply asking for skewers, but everyone was so focused on this guy calling me names and they just joined in. It was weirdly middle-school like. I'm an adult, I don't have time for that shit.

No idea about snowballs. I know you can make them at snow piles or mounds or whatever, but I only ever ran into one once. Remember, I'm new. I don't plan on playing until I see some updates that might bring me back. I have not played since this incident. I'm an honest person, I would not make anything up for my personal benefit.

This community is toxic. I'm a new player, sort of. I actually ended up watching a lot of videos on this game for some reason which then got me interested. I started watching more and eventually bought the game to try out. I immediately loved it. I sucked, but I liked it. I kept getting a lot better. I have a very quick learning curve and adapt really well to games that I get involved in. This was the case for this game.

Cut about three weeks into the game where I feel it has stagnated a bit and there are several griefers and communities way too close together. I join a family after that is in a gated town. I can't leave it, but that's fine, I make the best of my situation. I realize that there are many clay pots empty without any stew ingredients but plenty to harvest so I begin getting everything ready and go to town. I get 5 raw stew pots ready and several more ready just needing the pots and water. However, I can't grow any more crops because I need a skewer to till the soil. I simply go to the middle of the town and ask if there are any skewers, and immediately someone tells me to go find some (I can't leave and there are none within the gates) and that I'm a lazy fuck. Other people then jump on an tell me to fuck off and die and that I need to work harder (I had been working non stop to get the stews ready). The guy completely berates me, tells me to play a game more adequate to my IQ level, they all tell me to start Apex Legends and cry (I have no idea what this means), and eventually I just get surrounded and killed by people hating me (despite being my immediate family) because I simply asked if anyone knew where any skewers were.

Fuck this game - fuck this community. It's so small, yet there is a huge percentage of total elitist assholes. Not gonna miss it, peace!

(Edit; this wasn't the first occurrence, toxicity has been rampant lately in games I spawn into for simply asking where things are to help me help the family)

I have not used the zoom out mod, but have seen it in Vidoes, perhaps there could be a minimap in the bottom of the screen that had the same area of view as the zoom out mod. The map can be expanded by clicking on it. Again, not sure how to implement it into this game or if it's even a good idea, but I have always liked the mechanic and do think it could work in this game if the details were appropriately scrutinized

Hello all, new(ish) player here. I've played a ton of this game since I've bought it, and I watched a lot of Twisted's videos before buying it and after, so I caught on rather quickly. To start off I enjoy the game. I think it brings a real challenge if put in the right situation. I realize I am way too green to have any real input yet before truly experiencing it thoroughly, but there are a few things I'd change (too many Eve's close together for one), and maybe one or two mechanics I'd add.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for suggestions, but I figured I'd add one to what I imagine is a stupidly long list; Fog of War. This takes me back to my Age of Empire days, one of the mechanics I loved about that game was Fog of War. Essentially, you couldn't see an area until it was "scouted", it appeared black on the map and screen until it was explored by a unit, units with higher vision had a higher Fog of War clearance diameter.

Now, how could this tie in to OHOL? It would be cool if Fog of War was shared between individual families. You could see what members of YOUR family have scouted, but the rest would remain a mystery. Obviously this is a dangerous proposition with snakes, wolves, bears, & boars, which is why it would be a job for Male members of the Family, the women would stay close to home and raise children, cook, farm, and some men would go off to build roads, mines, or just generally explore new territory. Men could possibly have higher Fog of War clearance as an incentive to have them scout, and maybe an Archery bonus to help them clear predators faster.

Let me know what you guys think or how it could be expanded to actually be a legitimate idea - it's just something I thought of as a new player that might add a new dynamic to game play.

Cheers!
