a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Just played for the first time in months- and wow that's a draining expirience.
The state of the game has fallen so far below par I don't want to play it. I've been here awhile, and not gonna lie- unless the server is reset I'd rather play Starcraft.
Why are we encased in this black box? Just make the map smaller.
Building from scratch isn't an option at the present state. Wandering is the only option and everything is dead and deserted and is a reflection of the player count.
Griefers run a-muck and it's understandable. By my second life I was ready to go to the dark side out of pure frustration of it all- but I chose to stop playing cause I'm too old for that.
It's awful.
Planes are great and stuff-- and cars are kinda fun!
But we have planes but no Silos?
We're the kind of society that only allows one egg per square foot.
We don't believe in BUNDLING our carrots!
Personal inventory has gotten no significant upgrade since the game launched about a year ago.
Why we found a loom but instead of a longer-lasting, possibly more versatile clothing or backpacks- no!! Go hunt rabbits!!!
Meanwhile lag is atrocious an I live an irl hour away from Jason with 200 mbps download speed.
Nomading should be easier for eves.
Even a baby satchel would be better than nothing
We got shrooms, so we have altered states of consciousness-- and we have berries and we have wheat-- can we please have wine and beer for chirstmas?
How would this look? Idk everyone appears happy and stuff blurrs??
It'd be extra special if you drink so much- everything gets really blurry and your face flushes red
A scoring system held privately at end game would be neat for steam achievements-- but it needs to be implemented carefully- or insanely simply.
The big issue is that then- trolls will 'cut in' on a player's efforts and steal the points-- making it all the more frustrating for the guy who made it from scratch. It also could easily be abused- like feeding all the sheep til it's overflowing- or needlessly hoeing valuable soil.
You might want to low bar it, and have it simple-- like the least abuse-able task presently in game - would be said berry bush watering and soiling as well. You could also perhaps also use "feeding people with yellow fever" or "Healing people from a boar/bear/snake wound" It's gotta be really hard to abuse basically and ensure the points were earned.
Pick that last berry.
Wild Berry == will replenish itself
Domestic Berry== It will not.
therefore: pick it at home, not in the wild.
However- if you are the last one in town and you need a bowl of berries before you abandon ship-- do leave one berry there to help a a possible eve out. Leaving one berry on the tree will insure it wont die out
YELLOW FEVER EPIDEMIC!
Holy crap- this has to be fixed. I have played since the dawn of the game- and I got sick 7 times. And eventually died of it.
I had to leave town for a skewer- and thus my deadly adventure into the jungle. Not to mention the whole village has 2 people sick every 30 seconds because those bugs will hide behind trees easily.
Honestly there's too damn many bugs- no way to kill them. This isn't a good representation of indigenous life in the Jungle (at-least pre-2018). People don't get sick 7 times before the age of 12. It also massively limits resource gathering outside of town.
If you're set on keeping bugs- atleast give us bug-catchers and a way to make us immune to yellow fever.
Another option is to stop all the blood shed-- and make the bugs instead eat any domestic plants planted on the biome. Please nerf bananas first.
Birth control-
"/die" option was implemented which is honestly a huge step up. I encourage people use it- no use having your mom run after a life you don't want. Yep you abandon your babies. This how it is with a massive base of players being new. The infant mortality is high. When this game first came out I didn't see my first basket until my 3rd life.
Previous players have learned to adapt to the food situations and kill the babies accordingly.
Stuff everywhere-
It's always an issue and will likely always be an issue. While I do think the game has room for a 4-peice basket (seeing as it exists in both backpack and cart) it however is a major blessing to have limited personal supply when griefers are about. Griefers could then stock up and just hold on to it all.
Typing capacity--
It makes sense and is only rarely frustrating. In the few times I've NEEDED to speak as a baby (bunch of griefers coming for the town who just killed me) my alarmed ness translated and 2 adults listened to me letter by letter
Haven't been here since the summer pretty much- sup everyone?
Basically- if you want drama and avoid griefing- why not mess around with some hierarchy and social stratification issues? Like honestly at this point there could be just a baby born randomly with a crown on it's head and let the drama unfooold.
Since when do Whites mistreat Asians?
LMAO do you know who built our railroad system??
Hmm... who did the US put in interment camps??? Japanese and Japanese Americans.
Ya see how not paying attention in school isn't in your best interest?
This has allowed us to form a much more knit together fan-base on the forums, as we all feel heard and listened, because Jason seems to check EVERY forum post. Heck, I bet he's even checking this one;)
Exactly- but i also worry that it's too much complaining any not enough appreciation to counter act that. There's only so much abuse you can take until you care less or just start to ignore it. I don't know where Jason is in his head, but I know for sure in life it's better to consider someone else's feelings than to sit and consider what you're lacking or think you are missing.
Ahh thank you Jason. I love all the sound effects so much! I've probably talked about them to all of my immediate family members and friends and made them listen to them at least once. They're so good!
OMG RIGHT? The sounds in this game are just soo wholesome, cute, brilliant and illustrative sounds
honestly i generally dont kill unless theres a murderer around n nobody else is tryna kill them. or if im dueling someone
but last life i killed by own kids cos my daughter wouldnt stop feeding the twins. it was a big town with lots of stuff but i dont trust twins and i said that a million times and i told her not to feed them! all she had to do was leave em alone for a minute n they coulda respawned n had a chill life somewhere else! but she kept feeding em so i stabbed one n then she fucking wasted resources to heal him so i stabbed the girl n one of the boys died at two but the other one lived to three so i stabbed him too. im genuinely glad that line just died out tbh i cant stand when kids dont fucking listen. it was the first time id played in a while too so i was just extra mad. was planning to just die in the wilds after that cos i was pissed but stuck around to make backpacks for my only good child and her kids
"Do what I tell you to do or I'll kill you"
So on these forums, Jason eats a lot of our crap!
Let's lay some love and encouragement down on Jason. We all like to play his game, and we're all here because of it!
Not only does Jason work on updating the game, he also provides support for tech issues in the game!
If you think about how many people honestly don't give a shit about you in life-- and how rare it is for people to actually give a shit-- Jason is like this dude who's giving us hours of his life, one with a wife and kids, to give us something that he hopes will bring us some sense of joy- among likely many other things. Jason's obviously a massive lover at heart.
So, let's take a break from remarking on our annoyances in the game, and list something you enjoy or an instance in the game's development in which you admire and/or respect Jason for.
Done. Change will go live this week.
Funny how long it takes me to come up with a simple solution to a problem. I get trapped by old assumptions and cannot see the obvious.
honestly, your in a position where you need an entire team of people to help you. Despite this, you've done a very good job. You think things through but don't over-think it. A lot of creators want things perfectly thought out-- those overthinks aren't necessarily going to be play-able, tho.
So yes, I really admire your problem solving abilities and I do hope some company recognizes that and you are compensated appropriately. However the processes happens, you're doing good.
Fixed. No more teleporters... sorry folks!
But i loved throwing my younger siblings in the trash pit and having them teleport and freak out other villagers. They would come at me laughing wanting another throw.
Mama was like "STOP THROWING YOUR SISTER IN THE TRASH"
RIP teleport
Wow- honestly i can't get as long as a list as mentioned here.
Really my peeves are still with storage issues.
Like when you have a baby but have to walk 3 screens over to put the item down so you can pick up the kid.
it's brutal, it's annoying, it's stupid.
Like you know carrots are sold in BUNDLES?
Eggs are sold by the dozen?
Like I get it, I'm peeved at Jason for not working EVEN HARDER XD I'm the worst. But it's also just so stupid.
Here on OHOL farms we MUST EXTEND THE FARM. It's ONE CARROT PER SQUARE FOOT. That makes sense!!
Thank god we can stack bowls and plates it's amazing-- like omg the baskets have opened up- it's a wee bit more sane.
I was showing a friend the game- village had died out, no one left alive.
So i killed the only remaining man to show my friend the PvP option.
He was pissed but it's like-- he was going to quit anyway, and the last two men in a town- no one would know it was me >3
Honestly, great.
I hope this brings in new players. I'm all curious about the app issue- and steam's demands on that.
Wishing you the best on this venture, Jason please dont hesitate if you need your player base to help you test, I'm sure 99% of us would be down.
Oh man, I was in this town-- or rather a friend i was introducing the game to was playing and I taught them as the drama unfolded. My friend died and was reborn in the town so I got to see quite a bit
The murder did not end there-- as I understood it- one man with a bow meant to shoot the boar, but it being the same tile- he shot a person. The shooter immediately said "Oh god I'm sorry" before being killed by a trigger-happy town- again chaos- and my friend got killed by the boar.
Reborn- somewhere in childhood the boar was killed, fighting stopped- and the town regained some strength
It's more like 2.5 million Americans are incarcerated
and the U.S. holds 22% of the entire world's incarcerated population.
OH thank you, that's what i meant- I knew it was around 25% but was short on time and wasnt able to double check myself.
Anyway- thank you tho cause even tho I mis-spoke- im glad the dark reality of a private prison system got some attention.
They wont, just listen to the post of those who exploite the game for their own porpuse, they want to play the game their way, and Jason give them tons of consessions, no one would risk to piss anyone off because that means being banned, and have to stare the game without doing nothing for hours.
Donkey town is now worse than a ban. The cost is so high, that no one will risk it, probably the ones who do not post in the forum and got to donkey town already quit the game.
I do enjoy not having to freak out over a satanic urban-hellion brat spawning from my character's well shaven vag.
Blah, I really do like the idea of a larger issue of out-side threats. I feel it would allow players to live the life the want more- i mean it would be fun to have armor and to scout for near-bye eves to protect
Pulling from Two hour one life from yester-year- maybe make it so you can chose to play as a bear? Have a bear colony- but you cant cook so you have to ravage near-by towns-- or politely ask for food and try to grow human allies?
But you'd like to have game mechanics which would add spice to the game without being annoying sabotage? I think griefers want to sabotage, they don't want to entertain others. They are just people who want to bother others with big and small annoyances. They are not roleplayers looking for ways to make interesting stories, they are players who are there to maximize damage to a town.
While I agree there are grievers and their mission is sabotage- for those who are simply bored- a new set of end goals to entertain them - ie the role of the 'bad guy'. They can develop a town of horses and weapons and take off for the regular towns
And then for the regular players-- their city planning has to evolve to protect from outsiders-- now if you want a bell, you'd pretty much want to encase your city first.
The need for security in the community adds significant game play without really too much additional content. The necessity of security against external treats- pressures players for more team work- and in real life this is largely what borne kingdoms.
In reality this game has PvP options, so PvP will happen---- I really wish Jason recognized the need to try to atleast implement the most obvious steps in an attempt to balance it. PvP is a really hard thing to truly balance so that it's fun for both players. Right now, we're in a fortunate place where grievers are becoming less and less of an internal threat.
Also TIL that was how it works. *shrug* I take breaks when im bored of the game
As much as I hate the lowest of grieving-- when people grief in a way that adds to the game--- well it adds a lot to the game! Before the curse system was implemented, it was obvious a huge hunk of grievers were just doing it out of boredom.
So here's an idea-- instead of a cursed player being born to anyone (but also assuming they haven't been cursed into donkey town)-- they have to be born to another cursed player or they are eve. This pressures them to either play nice and get along to make a base and then, after death, get closer re-enter with the rest of us- or get cursed by cursed folk right into donkey town.
This would make ringing a bell double sided- you can call near-by eves but also a cursed village to come attack your town.
Basically-- how to use game functions to make grievers more of an antagonist role that adds to the game instead irritating and pointless sabotage?
Edit-- then there would be a reason for walls! and raising the priority on completing a structure would be welcomed- a lot of ambitions are left unfinished
honestly this is a good idea- if i'm off working, it helps to get pulled back by crying-- and to prevent wasting food points when babies arent hungry
Yes it's a boring 3 minutes, and with me as you mom in a busy time for the village- you'd do us all a favor to go AFK for a few min and take your pee break
