a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I played on this server before (havent been on the game for a while now) and it was great.
It is true that it is easier yes, but that is the point.
I find with 2HOL you can have your own little project witb no fear of never seeing it again, its just a different take on OHOL.
And to Jason: griefers were never an issue, the server is heavily moderated and even if someone did decide to grieve then the damage they have caused can be quickly rectified.
In a way they are both the same game but with seperate concepts. I feel like 2HOL is a laid back creative mode where you can let your creative side go wild, which is exactly what I look for in building games.
Should have added decay after he added more tech.
Pretty much what he said in the trailer... misadvertising
Hes going to up server pop to 80 lets see
Updated: I have added all recipes up to v73 (not including the apocalypse recipe as that is irrelevant now)
As usual if I have missed any please let me know
I think the idea is to stop bloody farming carrots en masse and make some pies, pies are the next step in food up from carrots and berries so the point is to move on to pies before the soil runs out. If you want more milkweed then you're going to have to venture out a little bit further but it shouldn't be too hard.
we also have much more stuff to be added but I am guessing the idea is that either a) string will become irrelevant so the milkweed wont matter or b) there'll be some alternative way to make thread further down the tech tree
make your suggestion here, so we all can vote
Done
And give it a week long cooldown period which increases the longer the tech tree gets.
A diminished playerbase
making some good progress (the bottom village)
All people do on public servers is carrot farm until the population is too big then its a free for all feeding frenzy then everyone dies.
Rinse and repeat for the next 3 generations and so on.
What people really need to be doing is improving each villagr by making buildings and effecient layouts.
Such as a bakery, blacksmith, tailors, nursery... etc.
I play the 120 custom server where everyone actually communicates and you can continue your project because the spawn is in the center.
Maybe lengthy answer incoming:
First of all, I think people reading the forums are not the one you are actually addressing with this matter, as people who want to learn more about the game externally usually are quite aware of the matters.
Secondly, I myself have just picked up the game, cannot play too much and try to learn in game rather than outside. But still, as I am a social nature, I do not just want to spawn somewhere, have them nurture me and then not contribute while I try new things out. So a fair amount of time I will farm, get water etc. and not do any fancy advanced stuff. Maybe the reason why so little progress is happening is because others are like me.
Third, every couple generations a village does not have the expertise to know that they have to limit their numbers, so they all starve and migrate, and someone else has to get the whole thing going later. Again, no progress. And when it is late night or morning on a work day, not many people will be there -> little sharing of knowledge -> little progress.
The last thing is communication. The whole community is I think growing atm, so the mean experience of all players is growing very slowly, if at all. It takes only one newby who thinks that it is a better idea to take a carrot from the field than from a basket to spare the field workers some clicks and your seeding rows are plundered or at least inefficient. So you need to communicate where the information is needed: in the game. I've had two lives where my main work on the field was to watch over the one line of carrots that were left for seeds and repeat the same thing over and over again. I am sure there will be some kind of convention established once >90% of people know you need fully planted carrot rows for seeds, but this "level of education", if you will, first has to be met. So maybe do some farming work for some minutes of your life, and keep watch over those rows, and communicate, so others can learn. It is in your responsibility as experienced player to help all advance. Not so much by doing fancy stuff, but by teaching more people to do that stuff. Any form of advanced technology is useless if people don't know how to use it properly, so guide them there instead of complaining.
This game is a social experiment. The basis for all social interaction is communication. Established rules (like saying F for food as a baby, not draining ponds completely and so on) can help this communication be more efficient, so develop some rules for carrot rows, tool and ressource usage and COMMUNICATE THEM!
Like I said before, they do not listen to me.
communication becomes pointless if they do not do as you say or ask.
"Don't pick carrots from the farm, we need seeds." ... does not respond and then proceeds to eat carrots from the farm dooming everyone.
"Don't look after any more babies, we need to become more sustainable before we have more." ... does not respond and then proceeds to look after every single new player that spawns in, dooming everyone.
"We need someone baking pie's, I can teach if you need to learn." ... nobody responds and carries on farming a dying carrot farm, dooming everyone.
I am bored of it and bored of ignorant players. The only reason I got good is because I listened to other people, something which at least 50% of the players do not do or simply do not care.
Me and my friend were getting frustrated at this as well. I would die of old age in a fantastic village only to bw born into there a day later to see that nothing has been done (i was half way to building floor and wall for the bakery) and all people want to do is farm carrots and then everyone dies, its actually quite amusing to witness the same thing happen over and over and nobody even bothers to listen to me.
I feel like if i dont make pies then nobody makes pies
If i dont hunt rabbits then nobody hunts rabbits
If i dont... e.t.c.
Anyway we joined the 120 server (cant remember name sorry) and its amazing. My friend and I are building an effecient village and nobody else is a noob. Everyone knows how to play

I think the issue is that we advanced the tech much faster than Jason's anticipation though; but on the other hand, our life isn't improved much because people aren't building houses for nursery or successfully grew a huge area of milkweed.
This is a key point, we still have a ways to go in terms of evolving within the current tech level. Although we are inhibited by the lack of storage atm.
storage is fine, i always pack thingsi nto baskets and then into crates. but then people take them out and just leave stuff all over the floor, which is what op means, plus people are lazy arseholes on this game that just take and do not give back.
although lately i have been finding more advanced civilizations where everyone is doing a job and it runs perfectly fine until someone decides to murder everyone (maybe not now its much harder to do). I wish I could go back to some and see if they are still going strong.
Very nice and thanks for all your work on the wiki!
Update: I have added all recipes up to v63
If i have missed any please let me know
Hi, I was making floors and walls for a bakery and some guy randomly decided to make a small trash pit in the middle of the floor before I put stakes there *sigh*.
Is there any way to remove small trash pits?
Perhaps if someone is killed within vicinity of their home marker then everyone is alerted
Interesting, perhaps carrot storage should go below carrot farm to allow for farm expansion?
why not just improve the wiki? anyone can modify it...
Because the wiki requires you to click on several links if its something complicated like the fire, that is the entire reason i made notes from the wiki in the first place and i found it to be far easier this way and I thought others might too
I made a shareable (link) simple (no pictures) crafting guide that you can use for quick referencing.
All information is taken from the wiki and my own hand-written notes from experience so some may become out-dated after any update.
If you would like to contribute your own crafting guide (for information I have not put in) then type it out here and I will copy/paste it into the document (with credit to your screen-name).
I plan to add to this every update and thought now would be a good time to start it whilst there is not a too-crazy amount of recipe's to add.
I hope this helps someone! Link to it is below (view only)
EDIT: Updates to v75

Find a way for clothes to not vanish if a person wearing them dies on farmplot
With the amount of threads on this issue (mine included) im sure jason is aware of the issue now. Im hoping he has a solution in tomorrow's update
One tile taking up to a full set of clothing (limited to 1 type each except for shoes) would be good imo
Agreed, it's a problem.
It's bad enough that people like to run off into the wild with clothes and die, in a way "diffusing" out important goods which should be focused and inherited instead, but this bug just makes it worse.
Yup, if this bug did not exist then civilizations would be much further ahead than they are now
