Hi,
I usually walk in town to help here and there, when I feel I can ease people life. Making stew, help a bit at the forge, feeding sheep, making soil, whatsoever, just giving a hand.
Once upon time, I walked near 9 carrot rows, with two ppl working on it. I begin to remove some carrots, since it's not a fancy job. One woman there say stop, but I didn't see the point. She didn't explain herself, just saying a stop then she curse me.
I can understand a rough call, when at the forge : you need place and you don't have time. But, with carrots ?? Wtf ?
So she cursed me, for moving carrot at the not best place possible. (I finally understand it when she decided to speak and explain herself) and call me a griefer : a griefer is someone picking up carrot, BEWARE, best griefer ever ! After that point my rage was so intense that I start to REALLY grief the town (but I wasn't an expert, and nothing I did really matter in this big city, it would just made life less boring, and have actual goal).
But she called me "griefer" for puting them not in the best place possible, yelling me to stop without explanation, being rude, as if I was killing all sheep. I thought : "Man, you have 9 rows of carrot, 7 are still full : chill, I'm just helping, it's fine".
The result of her call was an angry man who wanted to earn her curse, grieffin the place and two people chasing me wasting more time.
Next time, try to say something like : "Wait I'll show you a better way to pick up carrot." You will get a "better" result.
Finally, I was killed by my own mother, fair enough, without any fair trial. I was a bit sad that my mother didn't have the whole story, so this is for her.
Hi,
One hour One life means that you only live only one hour, and only have one life. Sixty minutes is a very few time to build bonds, and really care for other or town.
But if you reach a certain simple goal, like diying from old age, why can't you have another life in this specific place ? So the way to be back in town would be just to ... die from old age.
Then you can go back as an Eve if there is no fertile woman or as a baby. In that case you will care of the town, of the people. In that case you can make bonds with people.
I like it
if you KNOW how to refine uranium, but you're in the wrong family, does it just not work if you try it? Does it not even show up in your crafting hints? How do you know you are not able to do it? Wouldn't it be frustrating?
The simplest implementation of this could be game-wide, and even broader than just a few special things. What if the entire crafting tree was "filtered" uniquely for each family? These guys can make tinder, but can't make a hatchet. These other guys can make a hatchet, but not tinder. These guys can smelt iron, but not copper. These other guys can do copper and zinc, but not iron.
Only the things that your family can actually do would show up in your hints, and only those things would actually work.
(In general, I've avoided this kind of "forced specialization" because I can imagine it being frustrating.... if you "know" how to fish, but your character doesn't know how to fish, and must observe someone else fishing each life, in order to "learn" it each life... would just be tedious. Going through the motions: "Show me how to fish (again)" This has been suggested many times, by many people, including by the great Richard Garfield himself.... but I have very strong doubts about this approach.)
What if you can make specialist items, but only if you "learn" it ?
Just by looking at someone doing something in a certain radius, you learn it, and you can then do the same in a better way. I guess that in that case, the elder will try to "teach" things more often, creating more bonds in the family. If you add a specific look to it (like glowing golden or something) people should be encouraged to do it.
And maybe you can go further on, with a second or a third stage of specification, if someone with stage 1 of specialty show it to you.
So a kind of a long term culture may appear that way.
Hi,
regarding the soul / gene question, a thought come to me : isn't human more definied by his culture ? So a soul would be a correct answer too. But what if we can combine them (since it's a game) ?
Being that specific "gene" guy / girl give me special abilities (culture). Like a special stew, who give more food and last longer. You can do the same for the tools too, using different factor : a furnace that last longer, a berries bushes that give more berries / resplenish faster, or give more food pips. To make it better, and clearer, you can use a slightly different visual design too.
In that scenario, all town want to find other girl child (with new genes) to get everything mastered. And from this point stealing a baby girl is something. So maybe you have to kill her mother first... Like with the lamb to get the special sheep.
If it's not a war, but you will start chasing Eves with baby girls. Maybe this could lead to future war ? If a small camp want to survive and have boyos, they maybe be want to return fire to the town...
wow, so dedicated
I love the work and the spirit there
Hi Jason,
I didn't find it on the internet, but if anyone is aware that there is an avaible content (like a full video ) related to your intervention for this year, I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in it !
And there is also a video related to the 2018 GDC event
Sometimes, good things happen from unentended mecanisms. As Tarr said, if you enjoy only late game, there you are : you got yourself a playground, annoying no one.
I still feel it is wrong for civilizations that are still figuring out if they really need buildings, who have not invented furniture or metal casting, who have no irrigation, to have internal combustion engines.
I think that the point is not the "order", but all the mecanical part available, and machines that are now set up for future enhancement.
I dont know if there is a poll/vote system, but I'm against the idea.
As god said once : it makes the theater alive, bears chasing everyone down, while you're away looking for some arrow, your heart driven by some hate against the one who waked up the bears.
It's good for the game.
Or you could go further and remove the abitlity to die, making all players bored farmers.
Why not nominate him as the best dev, as being alone to do all of this work, and so close to the community, with stable server and so much stuff ?
There are the steam award (until 28 nov I think) who could be a good place to do it
Decaying bowls and plates doesnt make much sense, archeologist found 20'000 years old clay pots in south-east China
Yes, and Eve doesn't exist, and babies dont pop out like this, you need a male and female.
But bowl and plate cand be destroy just by using them, sometime, they fall on the ground and broke too. So it's not decaying but nb of uses.
Well maybe it was just 20 days ago
Time is going so fast !
A long long time ago,
I was born from a bitten woman, by a snake I guess. She couldn't take me to the farm, but my uncle was around, picking me up and giving me a berries just a second before i starve. He took care of me, feeding me, telling me to "Stay alive at any cost" : I was the last lil girl, alone with my dear uncle.
He was old already, and forged until a very old age, dying doing it. His happiness could be seen by his haste to forge things, making mistakes all the way until he died, leaving me alone..
A few years later, a girl come, then another, and another, I had four girls !
I told all of my sad childhood story, with my mum being bite with me on the ground, fighting for life, helped by my uncle.
The time passed quickly, and I was around 35 when one of my daughter shot me in the heart with an arrow.
Her first answer to my "Why ?" question was "I had to", but maybe it was indeed some other intended story that she had to told me about before shooting, who knows ?
Anyway, she could be inexperienced with a bow. And then stand with "It was an accident". Before dying, I had time to answer : "I believe you", remembering my uncle, and the necessity to grow up, make this place live, at any coste, from my mum death to mine. I was thinking that another answer could have broke all the camp appart, even if I had a big doubt regarding it.
If you where there, please give me ideas of what happen to you.
The best way to manage labour is if you're an experienced enough player to notice when others are trying to help but not really suceeding and you happen to have a similar task needing working on.
Yesterdady a girl was making fast roads near berries, which is absolutely a bad thing to do as it makes filling bowls a pain in the ass. I' been previously making a path to an iron vein so when I saw her I immediately explained and asked for help. Even gave her my bag as I got older. I had gotten people to smith iron i've gathered in this same life so we were pretty close to mining that vein even though most players in this city were new and we were quite behind on tools and iron when I was born.
You seem like a person that tries to do their best, you'll soon be able to manage people without even noticing.
You are a boss !
CrazyEddie wrote:Bananas are such a godsend (so many calories, just growing from the trees, in bunches, ready for picking with no tools, in a warm biome!) that it would make sense for them to also come with a curse. Perhaps banana peels not only clutter up the tiles making it hard to drop items, but also attract or even multiply mosquitos.
Just my guess, but I wouldn't be surprised by it.
We need to discover pesticides.
Hi, welcome to ohol. Here we turn even non-violent doggos in griefing tools. If banana peels multiply mosquitoes we're all dead.
Woow ! Thanks for all the explanation Jason
And thanks for Mosquitos
Try to reinstall the game first.
Only same town will make it to iron tech, this is great.
I can't read that much. You could resume it mb.
Have any if you tried to spend an entire life gathering iron?
this is the only way we'll gather accurate data for wheter iron is too scarce or not. I think It's no scarce yet, but will be after jungles, as twisted said.
I did. You can pick 7 irons within 20 min.
You need a backpack, a sharp stone, a basket and a home marker + the ohol+ mod.
And avoid animals
I think one of the main contributors to this issue is how much ground iron we require just to mine a vein. We legitimately need to find 8 iron alone just to get at a vein. And guess what? By that point in time, you'll need maybe 4-5 of it for the rest of the tools you haven't already made.
Another big issue is that the entire nerf was based solely off game data, which claimed there was enough iron within a 5 minute radius to last a camp 200+ IRL days or some bs [which is irrelevant, I think, given the fact that most eve camps rarely lasted more than 15 hours alone.]
You can't comprehend the frustration of [..] running around for 40 minutes of your life trying to find iron [...].
Using the mod solve this issue. But it's hard without.
Getting 14 iron can be made quickly with a dedicated player with mod, backpack, basket, sharp stone and home marker.
Just do it.
I go with :
1. GreenBiome
2. Blue Biome
3. YellowBiome
4. GreyBiome
5. WhiteBiome
6. BrownBiome
