#326 Re: Main Forum » Eve Pharo vs Lisa Pharo » 2018-09-24 00:16:47

I was going to step out of this. I saw no reason to respond to that wall of text directed towards me, as I'd already made my observations. But, to clear one thing up:

- Don't suddenly spin this as if Pharo was personally insulting you with the term prissy. She was quoting me, as you very well should know given you read and responded to the very message she quoted. She never once used the term prissy in reference to you or your personality, so stop taking it like a personal attack. It's not.

- I wasn't using it as a direct insult, or an insult at all for that matter. Moreso as a descriptive term. I'm not sure what other word you'd wish me to use to describe the tone of some of your messages that you wouldn't take as a direct insult to you personally, which none of this is.

My point was, the connotation of several of your 'points' in a few messages came across as petty, and a little immature. Namely, the "haha a mod had to tell you to stop" bit. Reminds me of Kindergarten, when a kid would get in trouble and there was always that one kid who'd go "OOoOOooOO~ Jonny's in trouuubleeee~"

Part of an argument is how you come across, which is doubly hard via text where it's so easily misinterpreted. Also, like you yourself pointed out, some things just aren't necessary to get your point across. Name-calling isn't, for example. Neither is making petty jabs at someone's character, and pointing out moderator action against the other user.

Please, try not to get confused and drag me back into this mess.

gdi Morti I actually looked at the image and was hyped for a second.

Ice fishing would be dope. Like what someone in another thread suggested, something similar to rabbit holes. You leave a rod at an ice hole and it starts shaking when something's on the line. Except maybe if you don't get to it in time, the fish gets away with your bait [worms]?

Gives us a food option in the snowy biomes, turning them a bit more useful. Maybe fish bones can be used similarly as rabbit bones, for needles? Throw in some recipes for baked fish, fish tacos, maybe something raw like poke.. and we golden.

And no, you can’t see all the babies you were trying to feed on the lineage page, as a lot died from starvation due to the ginger-pocalypse. We didn’t have enough food for everyone, so of course few survived.

See, the thing is, you can easily tell if a child was attempted to be kept or just outright abandoned. The key way to notice this is the fact that they starve at 0 years. Feeding a child even once will usually get them up to at least a year old, whgich only takes 60 seconds y'know. Another key point to note is that a few last words are "F" meaning they weren't suicidal, but wanted to be fed and survive there.

But instead, 4 of her 5 children were abandoned. One was fed, which you later killed because...?

If she were trying to "grief" as you put it, by feeding every single child that came before her, wouldn't she keep her own children as well? That'd be the most obvious sign. But instead, they were abandoned- just like 8 of your 9 kids were, which wouldn't she also try to "save" as well, for that matter?

The only real problem-child I can see of that generation is a gal named Angel Pharo, who appeared to try and keep EVERY child she had. Many of them starved later, as you pointed out, there wasn't enough food to sustain them.

Are you sure you're not mistaking Rose for Angel? She seemed to be more of an issue than Rose ever was, and it's not hard to get confused when literally everyone in the town looks identical.

Side note, I highly doubt she loosed the bears either. In a village where almost every kid was abandoned, whether they wanted to live or not, it's more likely one or several of them happened to run in the direction of bear caves and loose them. Even babies that go out of their way to suicide do this quite a lot, god knows why. It's not hard to imagine abandoned ones wouldn't.

But then again, you can't prove any of this. The only evidence we have is the lineage records, which lean against your claims.

Double side note, I'm not condoning her reaction, or any of the personal insults thrown around. From an outside perspective, I think she did overreact a bit and take things a bit too far with the name-calling and aggression. At the same time, I can also understand that it'd be extremely frustrating to do your best at playing a good game, then having someone turn around and start slandering your name on the forums, calling you a griefer.

On the other side of the coin, I don't condone yours either. There's no reason to get petty and personal with any of this. Your reactions are just as bad as hers, in a much prissier manner. There's no need to rub in the fact that a mod had to step in, nor start using this argument or even your claims of griefing as proof of someone's character. I understand that she may have started it, but that doesn't give you justification.

There was a brief period of time where forum users would use "Q" or sometimes "Z" as to mean "I'm from the forums / an experienced player"

I still use it sometimes when I see eves I recognize from here.

There's also "K" which is pretty obvious in any situation. I usually say that after I'm named bc some people still get butthurt when their babies are silent fsr.

#330 Re: Main Forum » Eve Pharo vs Lisa Pharo » 2018-09-22 19:26:06

I am mildly curious about this all. I've played with both Pharo and Mirelli enough anonymously to trust their judgment calls, and I can't imagine an eve would put all that work into making a camp, only to start griefing it the next time she was born there.. But then again, I've heard of worse cases tbh.

Keeping an open mind here, just skimming the argument.

But uh, you claim she fed all her kids yeah? That she was griefing via mass-feeding every child in sight? But at the same time, the lineage says all her kids died at 0 years- with half of them having "F" as a last word, implying they were abandoned, not suicidal. The only kid that seems to have survived past infancy was a girl named Jennifer, who seems to have been stabbed by... Lisa, at 17 years.

Any particular reason why, if she was the only child kept, as the strictly-enforced "one child only" law stated? And it does put a bit of a hole in your claims, given every other child was abandoned, while you claim otherwise...

#331 Re: Main Forum » Embracing low-end griefers to enhance game-play » 2018-09-22 18:04:31

That's... basically how it is atm. That's what "Donkey Town" was- a set of spawn specifications. They only spawned as eves, far away from normal players, or as the children of cursed eves. Now they just have their own server to do this on rather than the public servers.

Also walls are kinda irrelevant as you can just walk right past them through the entrance. There's no gate system, unless you want to deal with the future griefers that come with locked doors. So walls are basically just decoration, and for actual buildings.

There's still uncursed griefers out there and likely always will be, so don't worry about it. You'll get your chance to deal with them eventually.

Tbh, I still yearn for things to be rewritten a bit. 8 Curses = marked, 12 curses = banished to Donkey Town. That way we get a mix of things. You still have the drama and fear and antagonism of black-text babies being born in a town, but the worst of the griefers get exiled. Win-win.

#332 Re: Main Forum » Pet Peeves? » 2018-09-21 23:44:58

In defense of beans, it takes an entire plant to do anything with [burritos, stew, etc.] which means two plants if you want to replant [or having a 'seed' row like carrots set aside]. If you're running stew production lines, then yes, you'll need to plant a lot of beans. More than squash, which automatically gives you a bunch of seeds for a single plant.

What are you trying to grow near all those corn, squash and beans anyways? And why can't you plant them elsewhere, so people don't see the empty rows near the beans and decide to plant more? Carrots/Wheat/Milkweed should be planted out of the way anyways- Carrots so peopel don't eat them, Wheat so you have room to thresh, Milkweed so you're not taking uo space with harvested stumps..

Personally I keep all the stew plants in one area and don't spread them around since, y'know, you'll want them all in one area so you can make stew faster rather than having to tote around a half-filled crock everywhere. Never seen issues with people randomly planting them anywhere in sight lmao. If there's an empty tilled land adjacent to where I'm growing stew plants, then yeah I'm gonna use it for stew plants.

Here's a good example of a recent stew farm I had going, though I think having an empty row splitting them down the center would've made things a bit better.

Easily the biggest compilation of settlements on the servers atm.

Hey Jason, can we get a hotfix on dead semi-tame wolves?

Apparently they're able to kill people even after dying. A couple people have been killed by stepping over the dead bodies. Seems glitched- they've reported no wounds, thus not being able to heal, and being able to pick things up. But then they die to to 'semi-tame wolf.'

I'm guessing you probably copy/pasted the code and didn't check deadly distance again...

#336 Re: Main Forum » Pet Peeves? » 2018-09-18 00:45:36

Bold ones are my personal biggest annoyances, though I've encountered and hated all of these.

- People planting a shitload of carrots, watering them, then never coming back to pick them so they all go to seed.

- People binge-eating carrots/berries that are needed for compost, or eating the corn that was being dried for stew

- Eves camping in the middle of green, nowhere near a desert or even ponds.

- People letting the main fire die, or putting a rock on it.

- People putting kindling/firewood onto coals I was using.

- People shearing the last sheep, killing the domestic mouflon, etc.

- People fully clothing me, then shoving me onto a large fire in the middle of a desert. Dead in 5 seconds flat.

- Followup: moms getting mad at me when I move to a mid-temp tile rather than starve on a too-hot tile.

Oh there's a ton more, don't worry.

Edit: found some more!

- People wasting the shovel burying every skeleton in sight.

- People stealing the fleece I was harvesting to make their own apron, or the rabbit furs I was collecting to make their own backpack/clothes.

- People emptying the basket you set down for five seconds to use themself, or stealing the cart you were using, etc.

- People putting clothes on babies when there are adults running around naked. Bonus points if the backpack/apron they give the baby has gear like knives, shears, etc. in it.

- People stabbing others for being new, rather than teaching them what they should do instead. Or stabbing for petty reasons, like "wah this person disagrees with me"

- People filling in the sides of a sheep pen and eventually letting them escape.

- People putting the domestic bison/cow in the sheep pen rather than making a separate pen for it, eventually rendering the pen unusable for sheep as there's a shitload of dead calves taking up space.

- People making way more of one thing than we really need. Good example is one life where someone tried to make literally 8 carts when we were on the verge of a water crisis and desperately needed buckets for deep wells. Another example is planting/watering 10+ rows of carrots when we're already struggling to find space for the previous 10 rows they harvested.

- People standing in the way of the forge/smith area. Move your baby fire elsewhere please, its hard enough doing things in the few seconds we have when a forge is lit without having to try and grab things behind your fat heads.

- Prior to recent update, people keeping black-text babies under the very very slim chance that they might not be 'evil.' Civ then dies because they openly welcomed a marked griefer.

- Old people or males "rescuing" [read: stealing] your baby because you left them alone for 2 seconds to go do something rather than sit around eating berries and watching them grow.

- Followup: those same old people / males stuffing a berry in the baby's face every 2 seconds because it dropped a single hunger pip.

#337 Re: Main Forum » Make Goose Berries not so Yummy. » 2018-09-18 00:06:31

Barely anyone uses the yum mechanic, and most certainly not the majority of players who tend to eat berries throughout their lives. Making them eternally meh will do literally nothing to deter anyone but the very few hardcore players who consistently use the yum factor- and they're obviously not the problem, are they?

Hell even most of the 'best' players here don't tend to use the yum factor that often, at least that I've noticed in gameplay with them. Most usually just carry mutton pies in their backpacks, or stick with stew/sauerkraut/whatnot throughout their entire lives.

I'm not sure making them 'yuck' foods will help a whole lot either. Most likely, I'd imagine a lot of the players that eat berries throughout their lives would simply eat more to satiate their hunger.

Keep in mind, most of those that just eat berries simply are new and haven't been corrected. They're the main food of the tutorial, easy to spot, and plentiful in most towns- of course they'll go for the berries initially. How often do people take the time to point them towards other food and explain that its better? I've never encountered someone purposely eating berries into their adulthood when they know of better food sources, at least that I know of. Then again, I've never really asked them why they're just eating berries.

#339 Re: Main Forum » The look of Donkey Town » 2018-09-17 19:41:47

Right now, Donkey Town is just a set of spawn specifications.

If you've reached enough curses, you'll only spawn as an Eve, very far away from any uncursed players. You may have children during your lifetime, but they'll only consist of other cursed players such as yourself. Attempting to respawn will continue to spawn you far off as a cursed Eve. Think of it like a banishment.

They're currently on the same servers as any regular players. The skeleton of a Donkey Town server is in place, however, so it likely won't be this way for long.

Falsewall wrote:

Overlooked features...  I think sheep eating even a single carrot left in a row leave behind a basket (3 bowls of dirt).

With a 2 part pen and an airlock in the middle you can theoretically make a profit of dirt at the cost of 1/5 carrots per grow.

Just seal the airlock and grow/harvest where the sheep is not.

I have never seen anyone bring this up, but I noticed it as a possibility.  Haven't tried.

Not rly worth it though, when you can earn more soil profit from using that carrot for compost over having it just eaten by a sheep for a single pile of soil. Think about it: 1 carrot = 1 pile of soil, or 2 carrots = 8 piles of soil. Which is better?

I mean, I guess you could pick 4 and use those both for compost [equating to 16 piles of dirt total], then let the sheep eat the final carrot for an extra pile of dirt. But you could also just use that extra carrot with the 5th carrot of the next batch, and earn 4 times the soil from it.

The only downside is that compost costs more- 12 berries, 2 carrots, a wheat, and some water, to break it down. But even with the added requirements, the profit is much better. Factoring in that you use 4 bowls of that soil total [2 for berries, 1 for carrots, 1 for wheat], you get a profit of 20 bowls of soil to use on other things.

Compare that to using 1 bowl of soil for a profit of 2 bowls in return.

#341 Re: Main Forum » List of skilled player on forum » 2018-09-17 19:14:59

I'd like to say I'm a decently skilled player, but I'm not the best at eve runs. I know the order in which to do things and how to find a suitable spot, but I often just feel... slow, I guess. Or maybe I try to do too much at once.

Also, a lot of a good eve run is left up to chance- where you spawn, how quickly you can find a suitable spot [desert, ponds, lots of early wild foods], how many children suicide [a lot tend to when they see they're born to an eve ;;], how many of those that stay are new or experienced, how quickly you get things set up..

My best eve runs have been those in which my children have been experienced players and help me set up camp when they're of-age, rather than reaching toddler stage then starving the minute they're away from me. My best runs have also usually been cut short due to serial killers, but hopefully that won't happen as often now with Donkeytown being a thing.

#344 Re: Main Forum » Is the curse system different now? » 2018-09-15 18:27:56

I'm fairly sure he considered it but hasn't implemented it.

He did lower the curse cap from 10 to 8 though. I don't know what happens to those who already gathered 10 curses prior. They might have to live out 3 hours to get out of donkey town instead of one.

Tbh it would've made a little more sense to me to lower the black-text/devil mark to 8, and then add a second tier punishment [donkey town] at 12. You get the best of both worlds that way- drama and panic at having a cursed child born to your town, and the worse griefers get exiled.

Iirc currently dogs and bears 'occupy' each other. That is, if a dog gets close to a bear, it will start targeting it, and the bear will start targeting the dog. Neither gets injured. That's a step towards this at least.

When a person has gathered 8 curses [lowred from the previous 10], they're born in what we call "Donkey Town." That is- they're born as an eve, far FAR waway from uncursed players. The only children they will ever bear are other cursed players like themself.

They'll continue to get spawned like this, over and over, until they've lost a token and get uncursed. Of course, if they're griefers and jump straight back into their old ways, they'll just be sent back next lifetime once they earn another curse to top it at 8 again.

Enjoy your stay at Donkey Town.

You know, one thing that I've seen work absolute wonders with dog-human food aggression, is practicing petting your dog while it eats. Its better to start as puppies, but can work on adult dogs too if you know what you're doing [and they're not to the point of snapping at you].

You just keep petting them and ignore their growling. Over time, you want to start getting closer to their head/mouth as you're petting them. After repetition for a few weeks, they'll figure out that you're not going to leave them alone, and that they don't have to worry about you as a threat to their food.

I've seen the process from start [snarling, gulping at food, aggressive stance] to finish [practically ignoring you completely] only take a couple weeks for pups. They'll still growl/snarl at warning to other dogs, but that's just establishing boundaries and hierarchy.

#350 Re: Main Forum » Dog breeding according to one tech » 2018-09-15 00:02:37

You're kinda missing the fact that you don't just get "one of each" or "all three."

It's basically random. There's a higher chance of getting the same breed as the parent than a different breed, but there is a small chance of getting a new breed form the old one. You're most likely to get more German Shepherds, but you could get a Beagle pup too.

This can happen whenever you feed any dog, but only certain dogs produce certain other breeds. For example, Airedales can produce more Airedales, or Schnauzers, or Dachshunds- but they can't produce Chihuahuas.

Also, you can get Chihuahuas from feeding Dachshunds.

That's what I've gathered from testing in the game, for the most part.
