This thread is telling me that people make a lot of assumptions about other players that can't do anything or express themselves in any meaningful way. Seems like the consensus here is that murdering babies is fine and you don't really need a reason to do it. Just because you don't like them. There's really no way to know if a baby is good or bad.
If you think they're suspicious you can always watch them and tell them off, that's what moms do. The idea of abandoning or even killing your own kid because you think they might be a troublemaker just doesn't seem right in a game about family.
Today I witnessed an abortion. A mother didn't like her baby, so she stabbed it. A man killed her for it, then another woman killed him because she thought that the other mother had done nothing wrong.
So let's talk about killing babies. Is it ever okay to kill a baby? If so, when? Are mothers justified killing babies they just don't like? Or is it only acceptable when it's strictly necessary for survival? I'm curious what the consensus will be.
This is why I consider a backpack to be the most necessary item. It's the only significant personal inventory item. You can't do anything meaningful without one. Even if you want to make your own backpack using a basket, someone will just steal your basket and mats. If you don't get a backpack as a baby you're either spending 20 minutes in the plains at least or your entire life in town as some kept wife. Maybe in an ok town there are elders you can mooch off of but if I spawn and there's 1 pack in town I'm so gone.
So I've been playing around with the new red cross apron lately.
At a glance, having healing supplies on you at all times seems great. None of that panicked search for pads while someone is quickly bleeding out, you have them right there. How many lives could you have saved in your time playing OHOL if you'd had pads and thread then and there during a murder?
In reality the red cross paints a target on your back. If anyone's going to get murdered it's going to be YOU. The medic always dies first in OHOL, because you can't heal yourself when you're stabbed. At the end of every life that I lived with the red cross vest I was murdered. I never saved any lives.
The vest is a good concept but poor in execution. I'm never going to wear one again. I recommend that you don't either, it's breezy and it makes people commit war crimes. If you really want to heal people wear an apron instead and hide the pads in your backpack where the stabby people can't see.
