Read the laws! Then learn crafting in the game

I found watching this video really helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCkS_F_Jyu0
The THREE LAWS are meant to ensure that the land is viable for *future* generations. They don't really concern themselves with the current generation.
Stripping all the berry bush may be an optimization (though I don't believe it matters based on the game data I've looked at), but doesn't impact FUTURE generations.
Likewise, leaving carrots to go to seed is important for keeping a farm alive, but doesn't irreparably damage the environment in the same way that the three laws address.
I think more advanced civilizations will need laws concerning soil and tree management. For our current level of development, though, I still think these are the most important early lessons.
7: Small items,
Make it so the area where you can select them is bigger! picking up small items like 1 berry is a pain in the ass.
This is my biggest complaint right now. The pixel hunting aspect of the game is the most mechanically frustrating thing to me currently-- especially when something is behind a tree.
Ponds can be refilled with a pouch though, can't they?
Maybe you can? I've never survived near a pond I refilled long enough to tell. The recipe list doesn't have a special state for ponds that have been refilled, so it looks like they might? I thought Jason said at one point though that that would be too easy, so that they didn't. Hm.
Portable Water Source + Dry Canada Goose Pond Portable Water Source + Canada Goose Pond
I never thought I would say that, but nowadays I really feel the benefits of game library applications (or, should I say, application - singular, because having multiple ones kinda sucks in the end). Itch would help in my case, and I wouldn't have to rely on the purchase e-mail to keep track of my key.
FWIW, I keep my software licenses in a password vault. If you're not already using one, I highly recommend it - password vaults are great, and make it easy to use unique strong passwords for all your various accounts. I personally use 1Password, but I also hear good things about KeePass. If you already are using one-- well, just put the license key in it and voila! problem solved.
I've run into a couple of issues where, when playing in fullscreen mode, clicking a region of my screen (the area where desktop notifications appear, as well as my entire taskbar) causes the game to immediately minimize.
The issue isn't always present, but once it starts happening it doesn't go away until I restart.
Reproduction: receive a desktop notification, click where the notification would appear. Game minimizes.
Easy workaround of turning off desktop notifications. I'll do so, and see if anything else triggers the problem.
I really like this idea-- doubles as an achievements page.

What is the logic behind this? I understand wanting to punish players for being greedy but does it have any real life counterpart? I'm pretty sure empty ponds refill.
Aquifers can indeed be drained by humans. It happens all the time in reality.
This boils down to the design philosophy of the game. See: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=63
I don't disagree that the carrot/milkweed/pond/animal exhaustion feels tuned to be too punishing currently. It would be nice if there were some mechanisms for renewal. I find it frustrating that someone guilty only of ignorance can damage a region so badly as a naked eve with limited tools.
Water is refilled by groundwater-- so long as you don't drain the pond dry, in which case it never refills.
THE FOUR LAWS
NEVER VIOLATE
EVEN TO SURVIVE
ONLY PICK FRUITING MILKWEED
FRUITING MILKWEED regrows and gives seeds
NEVER EMPTY PONDS
Ponds refill if not DRY. Refill ponds if dry.
ONLY HUNT FAMILY ANIMALS
Lone animals don't respawn. Family animals come back.
DON'T PLANT BERRY BUSHES
Berry bushes waste fertile soil. Only plant if composting
THE COROLLARY:
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THE LAWS
---------------
I've seen some confusion about how to manage early era sustainability.
Milkweed & Animals, if properly managed, regrow once per epoch (currently 60 minutes, ie one generation). Ponds, if properly managed, refresh steadily over time.
Teaching your children these 3 laws will give subsequent generations a chance to survive on your land. Its better to die early than break any of them.
EDIT: I've added a FOURTH LAW to the list. THOU SHALL NOT PLANT BERRY BUSHES! Berry bushes effectively destroy fertile soil with a single bad generation.
I've also added THE COROLLARY, which is to teach your children the laws.
If a fifth law is added, I think it would be something about leaving carrots to seed (because otherwise you can wipe carrot seeds out from your region!!), or never digging wild carrots? I'm not sure how to frame this in a way that is sufficiently generalized as a sustainability law.
EDIT2: I added some justifications to each law.
Rabits do grow back if snared in the family state. Search for
```Rabbit Hole with Used Snare#family = Snare + Rabbit Hole#growing```
