I support the idea of leaving trolling, but making it hard work. It wouldn't be like the real world if there weren't jerks, but you should have to put some effort in. If it were more like that, I could imagine throwing myself into helping a troll mom wreak havoc. It's not what I'd normally do, but I'd help someone who is working hard at something.
If things advance to the point where there are competing lineages, a saboteur class (ie, trolls working on behalf of another lineage) might arise.
Working hard at destruction is barely working at all.
Although it would be nice to know who killed someone, adding blood will just bring more trolls.
I like this idea, and maybe like draequine said, perhaps it could be a cone shaped item to amplify the sound or something.
But OP is right, when there is a troll, by the time you inform everyone, they are already dead, or in danger of death seconds later.
+1. I agree with death by gluttony. It has a weaker case for in-game logic, but a very satisfying natural consequence for griefers who try it. Maybe play the "starving" noise as a warning when you hit an "overfull limit" (an adult's worth of boxes above your max), and kill when you hit it again. Apply this only when food is eaten by the player. I think a slight bias in the mechanics against malicious players is fair game. https://youtu.be/HJZPzQESq_0?t=8
Or, I would also agree with a limit on eating if you are "overfull." This has a better in-game logic, but is more neutral toward the griefers. This should also have an audible warning.
That's probably fine too, except you get hungry so fast, it will only slow them down by one second just about.
But it does need an audible warning either way, especially if it could kill you, because accidents do happen.
But over eating isn't like just eating a huge meal when you are barely hungry, it should be eating X amount of
extra calories in just a few seconds time sort of thing. I needs balance that's for sure, but without some check
to the system, its just going to keep happening, and it could be fixed easily.
I already posted this somewhere else, but requiring two arrow shots to kill one player, or one arrow shot with a certain chance to injure them and slowly kill a player, seem like good solutions. It also "makes sense" (killing someone with bow and arrow really would require several tries if you don't pierce a major organ, and even then, there's a slow death). More importantly, bow and arrow thing would feel balanced because you would need a backpack + arrows, which are significant resource costs.
Not sure about knives. Having them break after killing several people seems arbitrary; but the way combat works right now it's hard to imagine another solution unless a new recipe/game feature is added.
(And like, all of these are very cause-and-effect solutions [especially the overeating thing]. Other ideas could involve violent players being paired with each other somewhere entirely far away from players who don't engage in overeating and violence, frequently at least; with maybe some small little clue about what's happening to them because of their bad behavior.)
I think I saw your posts about the multi arrow solution, and I'm on board with that. Because its just too quick, you are dead before you know what happened.
I always look at a corpse and see if it has an arrow in it, and if so, start looking around to find out where it came from.
If you constantly move, they can't knife you or shoot an arrow at you. But if you stop moving they will get you.
But that is what makes it so easy for them, people are focused working in a field are all lined up and not expecting to flee
at the drop of a hat like that.
Also, I think the knife should only decay after X amount of human attack uses, whereas using it on animals provides no decay.
Although in some ways it just might mean more knives in the world, but at least more people might be armed in towns.
And since there is no way to know a player's name in game, and no way to exactly flag a grief attack, that last solution wouldn't work, however, if there was a
way to do this, it would be great to send all the griefers to their own server to live out their days. They want that type of life, they can have that type of life.
And maybe an easier temp solution would be an option for PvP on or OFF on the settings options, so that people that would rather not deal with that can
play on those servers. But without the over eating killing you, they will just use that tactic, or perhaps leading bears into towns or what other evil methods
they can come up with, but for now, it seems like those 2 things are effecting the people that play to advance.

https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=267
https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=217There are already several threads about this very thing. Limits on food consumption seem pretty pointless for a number of reasons (why should overeating kill you when you've spent most of your life naked and running barefoot and eating one kind of vegetable? It smacks of band aid videogame logic to a balancing issue.)
The real solution at the moment is what some of the community members have been offering whenever frustration happens: players need to come together and use what they're given without the game's assistance (i.e., the tech tree climb will have to be interrupted because now you must make a bow and arrow, and one person needs to have this bow and arrow at all times and effectively be useless.)
None of the above is really practical, so maybe the real answer is either the boring one (overeating limit), or something interesting requiring players to work together to restrain/kill a troll.
(It could be anything, guard dogs, stones as projectiles/melee weapons used by several players, lock and key storage... )
In real life, if you ate that many carrots in a row in as many seconds, you could probably actually die from it. I know you can die from drinking too much water for example.
We had a bow, somehow the arrow was missing, don't know how but it was gone. I don't think its boring to make them die from over eating, its realistic, and at least
if there was a limit, it would buy the town time to try to make a solution to the problem, whereas in two minutes you got to have a ton of luck to make a knife or
bow and arrow if you can't find yours. But adding guard dogs so that your own kids don't over eat seems like a ton of wasted coding time. Perhaps easier weapons, but that
will just lead to more random trolling, so the easy fix is make them die from over eating, because no one eats 80 carrots on purpose in a row for game progression reasons.
I'm more concerned with the invisible people, you can see them pick stuff up, and you can hear them, but i still don't know if they can hear me
when I talk to them. Its weird moving into a town as an old man bringing a cart of stuff, and you aren't sure if the people even know you
came to help.
+1 - 10 to 20 seconds of ghost form would be nice
Without Names, and ways to mark people in your own town as legitimate citizens, its a horrible idea to have PvP, because its going to turn into a Kill On Sight scenario
in ALL cities, when the vast population is friendly. You only get a handful of people that were molested as kids that have to act out this way, so why ruin the friendly
nature of stumbling onto a new city?
I don't have a problem with combat being a thing, I have a problem with the inability to see names, and know who to be weary of, and until that is added,
its just going to turn into grief central. It shouldn't be a core feature of the game that attracts the unwanted people that have no friends that must ruin other
peoples fun. It can be an element of the game, but there is no way to keep it in check without a names system. But the real issue is it needs to be perpetual,
otherwise they just use a new name each life. We need to be able to screenshot and name and shame these assholes, the anonymous nature of the whole
thing will kill the decent player base if this is left unchecked. This is also because of the people that eat all your crops, you raise them then they just eat everything
for lols, it shouldn't be that easy to literally not need to do anything to ruin hours of someone's life. And i say hours, because if you have a good village, often
you respawn as a baby of one of your kids.
We had about 30 plots of carrots. Two full rows were for seeds.
Had a nice family going, then I gave birth to the hell spawn.
He ate every single basket carrot then all the ones in the field,
back to back until nothing was left. When told to stop, he continued.
Unfortunately, someone ran off with the arrow so our bow was useless.
But we demand a patch that kills you if you eat too much.
Something like if you eat 10 in a row, you die. This will at least buy you time
to get the gear you need to kill them. This all happened in less than a couple
minutes, several generations in a huge town lost just for the lols.
+1 if you agree eating too much should kill you and NEEDS to be patched soon.
(I'd like to note, just because it hasn't happened to yet, IT WILL, so have some empathy with your +1 and stop this type of trollery before it becomes rampant)
(Edit - 25 people read it, and no one cares? Did all 25 of the trolls read this? Not sure why no +1 responses)
Conventionally, forum admins usually are selected by devs to move posts around and delete or lock threads that go off topic. Not sure what you are talking about. But if you are saying I can post into the known bugs issues now that I have an older account, then I guess I will do that in the future.
Like I said before, I like that there is pvp, but people that do it JUST to grief, not even because they are starving and were denied entry into the settlement, are a totally different issue. But right now, since you can't see names, and you can't identify who is who, and they could just kill you within seconds as they charge off screen, there does need to be something done about it. It's less about having a lifetime's work destroyed, its having multi generations of people's lifetime's ended, and only for the lols. Its just that if it continues to get worse, the only solution is to take it out of the game, it would be the only way to grief the griefers, take away what makes the game fun to them. And it would be okay, because the rest of the game is fun on its own, just not to those types. But at the very least, once names, and clothes dying and signs are possible, then you could put pvp back in as you could post a warning that its kill on sight of any random people that show up, as otherwise you end up having kill friendly people that show up, otherwise it just creates a hostile world that is already inhospitable as it is. The two hit system could at least be a partial patch to buy the dev time to think of something else to do, but it just reminds me of pre-alpha minecraft where the most entertaining thing to do was to burn a whole city to the ground. Its too enticing to the devious types to not just play the game to be assholes.
Or they give Jason some food for thought on perhaps finding ways to nerf these types of people. If people want to ruin a game, you have to take away the ways they ruin it. For example, Friday the 13th is a good example. Little kids went around killing other councilors for lols, when it was hard enough to survive as it is. Over time it just grew to a point that, they just took the pvp element out of the game. Its sad when you have to do that, but at the same time, if you remove what attracts the trolls, they are bored and leave, and you get just players that want to help. And if the goal of the game is advancing society, these people create the opposite effect, and thus you could lose your main player base over time if it grows to a point that its pointless to play. Until there is a name system in the game, and a way to identify other tribe members, and thus differentiate the outsiders, it might need some nerfing because its bound to happen to someone else, time and time again.
The way griefing was solved in minecraft, i can't recall the mod's name, but it tracked every action a player took on a server. And if someone griefed, they would contact an admin who could then hit the blocks in question, find out who did it, and then ban the player. But it was better than just that, it was a massive ban. It banned them from ALL servers that used that mod. The player had the option to appeal the grief to the maker's of the mod, and both sides were able to argue your case. But if you had a screenshot of the ID of it happening it was pretty hard evidence. So in the long run, you weren't just banning a troll from your server, but all servers that used the mod, and it was super effective. Granted being there is only a handful of servers of One Hour, and its all run by the dev, something different would need to be done. But clearly there are those that would rather ruin other people's fun than actually play the game as intended.
Maybe I missed it but it looked like you can't post in that form. Although a forum admin would likely just transfer this post over there as NOW it would be a known bug since
others confirmed it exists.
The reason its not on Steam is there is no value to a dev anymore to use Steam. I don't have the exact numbers but I think Steam takes 60% of the retail price, so the
dev makes less than 1/2 and also you would say, well it will sell more cause its on Steam. That use to be the case, but with 10 new games or more per day popping up,
if people don't notice it launch then it just falls off the charts and drags the game's ratings down, its a slippery slope. So for now, its just through the main website its sold.
No, it's flat and it works out to be roughly the size of Jupiter.
Ten times I believe Jason said in a video interview. But flat earth confirmed haha.
I don't know if Jason knows about this issue, but its probably not reported because few make it to the age where you hear it, and
those that do have other concerns to worry about and post about that. But its one of the last few songs that plays as you are getting
older there is a hard piano slam note that is sustained, and it peaks and clips making a popping noise every single time. I know its
not the worst bug to worry about but I just wanted to point it out in case he didn't notice or no one else has said anything because
I too keep forgetting to post about it cause its not that big of a deal but I imagine those with headphones get a little blood from the effect.
You could cut out a microframe or two in the music file and eliminate that peak popping noise and keep the song so you dont have to
re-record it or anything, the music just needs a tiny splice or perhaps a minor normalizing of just those frames of sound.
I surly can't be the only one that has noticed this right? Again its not a huge deal, but would like to see it fixed.
Thanks!
What would happen is you would have mass starvation in minutes. One mom can and usually will produce ten babies on average, with about a third maybe
being female if you are lucky. But just having two moms giving birth at the same time can put a huge dent in even the biggest carrot piles. What i often do when I have my first
one is leave the town for a bit and live on the wild berry bushes a few screens away. As the first one gets hair, I get them to take a berry and go back home as the second
one is being born. I spend most my adult life having babies until I can't anymore, then I come home to a well balanced farm most of the time. And I can use my golden years
to gather anything thats lacking or pass on any advice to the youngins i didn't while raising them.
I find more often its a bow the trolls use, but I've died by both. If i see a knife in their hand, I run for the hills
even if they are friendly, and tell them to drop it, and they either do, or they chase you until you lose them.
I'd rather deal with a word troll all day long, versus the three different times I had PvP trolls. This last round, both of them were clothed well, one was carrying
a cart full of food for the other one. That second one just used a bow and killed all the family, one by one they exclaimed "Why" as they died. I was able to
get away cause I've had this happen before. But they didn't need our stuff, they had plenty of supplies and instead of helping civilization they spent their life
going from town to town wiping it out. I know this because after I fled and came back, they were gone down the road. I like to see combat possible in this game,
but its going to get to a point you just kill any one new you see on your land, and I think the game is better when people work together to advance technology,
instead of trying to do the opposite. It just makes the game a waste of time with these types. I'm extra miffed, because I found one of my kids from a previous
life and we just found each other and then dude shows up to ruin the day, good thing he was noobish enough to not be able to kill me, but I just ended up
starving myself because no reason to go on without a family, especially when eight generations were lost when there was plenty of food and gear. A rando mom
came in right before I did end myself, and I told her settle there, and my last year or two was talking to her new baby, so at least life went on there, but my family
was no more
That's what I said when I found a food supply to feed my never ending supply of kids that were being born.
Sure, we had a farm, but it wasn't ready for the amount of babies I was having, so I often find when I start
having my first baby, I will go off into the wild a little ways from town and birth from bush to bush and giving my
kids knowledge as we wait for their and my hunger to increase. I know the best tactic is to put them near a fire,
but when your farm for five starts needing ten and more, the best thing you can do is birth in the wild and then
have the oldest grab a berry and run back to town to start helping. By the time I finally stop having babies,
I end up coming home to see the town thriving again with the new population. I can then resume helping gather,
craft, or instructing on how to do things.
But long story short, I posted this to find my babies. They thought my name was Erika cause I had a typo when
I first said it out loud. But they remembered me because of that when I went home to settle in finally.
Then a few days later, I said it randomly and found them again! They remembered me, and if you are out there kids,
mom says hi, lol and maybe we can link up on discord or something.
And to the rest of you, maybe you will try the tactic I described? Fill up, then take the baby through the greenlands,
until you find a bush, and get it almost done, then pickup baby and move around and see if you can find another in one
direction, if not, double back get one of the last two berries and try another way. Most of the time it works out and you end
up finding larger stocks of berry bushes to help raise your young. Also, hold them, don't put them down until you eat need
to eat a berry, and make sure you don't "waste" it, make sure you have enough hunger bars to use the whole berry. Sounds
obvious but its a rookie mistake that will bite you in the bum. But perhaps you will be running with a kid in arms and one chasing
you with a berry in hand and find a huge supply and say Eurika! yourself, but anywho that's all I have to say for now. Have
another post to make griping about the bow trolls that wiped out my eight generation family that was thriving
