#26 Re: Main Forum » how to make snake barrier » 2018-07-27 06:28:17

I put an object behind each of the trees in the desert/badlands area where snakes hang out. Use something that won’t decay and you don’t need many of, like flint or flat rocks or seeds. Takes a bit of time to do, but at least they can’t hide and kill your children for walking behind trees

#27 Re: Main Forum » Early Camp Farming: Carrots or Stew Crops? » 2018-07-26 00:40:59

This is how I make stew:
Fill a bowl with water, leave near crock.
Get squash, put on plate, hit with hatchet or axe, put in crock.
Get dried corn, put in bowl, hit with flint, put in crock.
Take bowl to bean farm, put beans in bowl til full, hit with stone, put on plate, put back in bowl, add water from second bowl, put water back in second bowl, put beans in crock.
Put water from second bowl into crock
Make fire somewhere away from project areas.
Put crock on coals.

Resources used up: one water, one branch, two hits of the hatchet or axe, squash, corn, and beans.
I briefly used one plate, two bowls, a flint and a stone.

At the end, I have a crock full of stew and will need one bowl to eat the stew.

I was an old woman trying to find a place to drop a knife on a crowded floor. Found an empty spot and clicked it just as an infant ran past. This was back when murder was instant and didn’t slow you, but I died looking for another empty spot.

#29 Re: Main Forum » How do I farm carrots properly? » 2018-07-21 06:31:52

Most crops turn into a hardened row after harvesting. Hardened rows need one soil and one till before you can replant. These crops are carrots, corn, beans, squash, cabbage.

Other crops:
Berry bushes-After all berries are picked, must add one soil and one water or bush will die. Takes time for new berries to grow, and they will grow all at once if domestic or one at a time if wild.
Wheat-all soil disappears after harvesting. Needs two soil and one till to replace.
Seeded carrots or cabbage (didn’t get harvested on time)-same as wheat
Potatoes-are complicated. Need extra soil after planting to mature and a shovel to harvest. But after harvest, becomes hardened soil.

If you see people harvest and then have deep soil, they probably had a hoe next to the farm and tilled it so quickly you didn’t notice. When you are watching an expert do a job, it can be hard to catch all the steps.

To my children:

I am not a very good mother and only a fair player, but I hope you all lived long enough to learn something and become better players. And maybe enjoy the game a bit.

Son: You were born within seconds of my spawning. We travelled together until I found a spot with food and reeds, but no water. I decided to stay and wait for you to be old enough to carry a basket before leaving. I put you down to cut reeds and another baby was born. I asked you to make the baskets, but you just stood there holding a bundle of reeds until you died. I think you lost connection because it hadn’t been that long since I fed you. You would have been a cherished and useful family member, and I missed you.

1st daughter Mona: We stayed in that spot until you got hair and then we were off. We travelled north until we found a large green area with three ponds in one corner. I was not planning to found a city, so this would work. We picked a spot and started gathering stuff. You asked me to make a hoe and apologized for being new and slow. I dropped food off at the camp while you started a small farm. It was clear that you didn’t really know much, but you made a hatchet and got one carrot planted before you disappeared. I never found your body, but I mourned your loss.

2nd daughter Irene: You were born just as I was preparing to make fire and roast my first rabbit. Just as the fire died down to coals, my hair turned white. I cooked that rabbit, dropped it, grabbed you and ran for the nearest berries. There were only three half-eaten bushes, and you needed more food than that to grow. As soon as they were gone, I picked you up and ran west looking for more. I found a few more bushes surrounded by onions and burdock. I told you to stay with the food and make a basket when you grew up. I went back to my camp and hoped you would make it alone. Later, I brought you a basket of carrots and cactus fruit, but you had already left. I hope you know I did my best, and didn’t feel abandoned.

You all died too quickly and you were all remembered.

Your Mother,
Eve Deserio

#32 Re: Main Forum » How do you quit this game? Clicking % to quit did nothing » 2018-07-17 01:45:56

If you can’t find the shift-5 button, you could just stand on snow or shake hands with a snake or wolf or boar. They'll all kill you pretty quickly.

Not eating will also work, but it will take longer.

Dear Eve Shera:

You were alone on a deserted server when you got a surprise baby boy, me. You named me Romulus and took me with you on your search for a place to settle. We found a “not terrible” place and we set up a camp. We harvested all the milkweed around, and there was just enough to make fire plus one snare. During my milkweed hunt, I noticed that we were surrounded by rabbits, so I decided to make two backpacks so we could find a better place.
I snared and cooked enough rabbits for the backpacks and some food, but we still needed thread. I was greatly saddened to find your body near the ponds to the south when I went to look for more milkweed.
I did eventually find milkweed far to the east and was able to make a backpack and sealskin coat for myself, but by then I was starting to get old. I used my last years to find wheat and make a few pies to take with me in my next life when I look for a better place.
You told me you hadn’t played the game in a while and were out of practice. I hope you keep playing and we can meet again someday.

Your son, Romulus

I noticed that the time spent in the tutorial doesn’t get recorded. I tried to show Jason a glitch from when I played in the tutorial, but I couldn’t find it in the recorded games folder.

The last three times I got a backpack, I wasn’t able to use it. Just sat on my back, wouldn’t accept items, and I couldn’t remove it. It happened in both the server and the tutorial.

Anyone else having this problem?

Dear Mother Betty:

Thank you for taking me away from the rest of the family. You were right, it seems, that the area didn’t have enough resources. The rest of the family seems to have died off.

The little green area you found for me had one pond and enough wild food to last until I got a farm going. Being male, however, I could not continue the family. I left my camp ready for the next wanderer.

I hope I made you proud.

YouTube here as well. Watched a bunch of videos, then bought it a few days before decay started.

#38 Re: Main Forum » Testing the tutorial on my wife » 2018-07-01 07:21:15

LaughAtlantis: the goal of the tutorial was not to make a hatchet. It was to light the torch.

You have to make the hatchet, use it to make kindling out of a branch, put the kindling on the hot coals, light a firebrand, and use the firebrand on the torch.

Once the torch is lit, the task is complete, and you are told that you will play the regular game after you die, which will happen faster if you use the rattlesnake room that has been provided.

I was November Meredith. Born the last child of a large, boy-heavy family, I found myself the only fertile female in a rather strange old town. 8th generation, but no forge, no tools but one hoe, and no food except berries. We did have a small farm, watched over by an older cousin, who decided we needed compost (which we did, badly) so he grew some carrots and wheat. I had just enough time to help him make the first batch of compost before I had my first child. I ended up having eight children with only two boy suicides. Most were killed by animals, but two daughters lived to old age and had many children of their own.
When I died, the town hadn’t changed much. My compost mostly went to keeping the berries alive, and the rest was used to make a large patch of milkweed to the south.  The sheep pen was full of sheared sheep, but no one ever made a knife to harvest them.
I’m afraid I’m not very good at dividing my attention between different activities, but I restocked that town with people and no bushes died on my watch. We have a twelfth generation now and I hope the town will last a while.

We made it through the night and got to gen 28 only to be ended by a killer named Oran.

Dear Clive Boots: thank you for saving us from a greifer. Unfortunately, that 2-year old girl was the only potentially-fertile female in the whole town.

I used to love to find little starter camps, is so nice when you are Eve. They not as common as before but still find em often enough.

I like leaving a camp behind that will not decay. I always hope that I will Eve there or a place like it and be able to expand on it. This has happened a few times, and they've been the best lives. Especially when I can raise one or two daughters and help them build a sustainable town.

On a related topic, I have Eved in a town that looked like it hadnt had time to decay (carrots ready to pick) but there were no fresh graves and no people. Does anyone know if the decay timer is dependant on the presence of a player? Or was it just really lucky timing?

To my Mother With Many Dead Children:

You were an Eve who decided to give all your kids a chance. You told me that all your kids lived until they had hair, then you left them next to bushes to see if they lived. You seemed very excited when you saw me alive with a basket and stone and burdock. You took me and Little Sister to your unhomed camp and left us to get more supplies. Unfortunately, you did not come back. Little Sister suicided, starving in camp right next to food, but I lived out my life and left behind a starter camp with some dead rabbits, dry planted carrots, watered berrys and a few dry milkweed and wheat plots.

I lived the kind of life I prefer, starting a new camp without having to worry about feeding kids (since I was male).

I like the start you gave me and think this is a good compromise between abandoning and starving from too many kids.

Thank you

Keniya Sonderman

I was born to an Eve I'm pretty sure was a bot. She just stood in a desert biome with a few items around, but nothing useful. She picked me up if I "F"d, but never spoke, just ate cactus fruits. As soon as I could, I left and found food nearby. To see what would happen, I brought her some burdock and berry a few times. She just kept eating and pooping out babies. Most of the babies died, but I met a sister who knew stuff, so we left together and started a new camp. A few years later, I came back and found the same useless stuff lying around her grave.

sad news for the fierce family.  some blonde guy killed everyone.   my mom made a bow and tried to kill him but she didn't make it.  i raised my brother a little ways from camp but by the time we got back to the village, everyone was gone.

That's too bad. sad

We were such a nice young village too-only five generations in and we were ready for a sheep pen.

Maybe I'll Eve there someday and be able to rebuild.

I was born a beloved first son of an ignorant mother. My grandmother had to tell her to pick me up to feed me. I was fifth generation Fifita and Mom named me Todd. Grandma disappeared before I grew hair, but Mom did her best. She tried to raise all six of her children before starving at age 26. Only I and one girl survived her death. I spent the next 45 years farming carrots while little sister Mary smithed and raised 7 kids, ignoring the limitations of the farm and the 6 ponds nearby.

I tried to get people to expand the town with a sheep pen, a milkweed farm, or even another carrot farm somewhere else, but was ignored until a grandniece started bringing soil and doubled the size of my farm. When I became ancient, I asked for someone to farm in my place and gave my backpack to the one who responded. I wished them good luck and left. I went to Great Grandma's berry farm and tried to make it bigger but died while looking for more soil.

After I died, I looked up the family line and was saddened to learn that all my siblets (sister's kids) starved within 5 minutes of me in their 20s and only two of their kids lived to adulthood-two brothers who starved in their 40s and had suicidal last words.

#48 Re: Main Forum » N/A » 2018-05-12 04:08:18

Ducks is alive again!

Eved there and was amazed at a fully-developed, abandoned town. Only had two plots of soil surrounded by carrot seeds, but it had wheat, sheep, berrys, plenty of full wells, a forge stocked with tools, and a bakery with three cooked mutton pies. Raised a daughter while making compost and rebuilding the farm. She had several kids and was making more pies when I tried to kill a sheep and hit an infant running around instead.

Starved before debuff wore off. I hope my daughter figures out how to keep sheep in the pen soon.

I just lived til 60 in a formerly-thriving town. I never gave birth, and I never saw anyone younger than me. Maybe noone plays on Friday night? or server is shutting down for update tomorrow morning? idk.

Was good life, left town stocked with cooked mutton pies, compost going, berrys watered, and carrots dry. A bunch of other people also died old, so the town will rise again. I hope.

Water was getting scarce, so I asked my daughter, Nerys to find new ponds. She took off with a basket of carrots and soon came back with news of five untouched ponds. She loaded up a cart with five pouches and two carrots in baskets, but she was too small to pull it. I grabbed the cart, followed her to the ponds, and got a load of water. Ate one carrot, dropped another on the ground for her, grabbed the cart, and took off for home. "WAIT" she called from offscreen. I went back and saw her plead for food moments before dying.

I felt awful. I looked around and didnt see the carrot I had dropped, so i dont know why she died. I hope she sees this and knows that I wasnt trying to kill her.
