"I'm not against one-hit kills with knife. Those are way harder and you can see the assault incomming most of the time. You can defend."
The issue with that is that its still a crappy game mechanic. I mean why would you ever use a sword or any other kind of close combat weapon, if the knife already kills everything with one simple mouse click? A better and way more balance way to fix this would be to change it, so that it only one-hits if you're attacking from behind.
That way its not just more realistic, but it would also feel way more rewarding for the murderer. Since he actually had to be a sneaky backstabber.
For instance, why did Jason make it so that fertile despawns after your carrots turn into seeds? to make the gamer harder? if anything it's making farming just more annoying. It's not even realistic. But that's just my opinion on that kind of topic.
Well he wanted to prevent stagnation with that, which does make sense. Before the change you could just always leave one carrot in each row and easily survive off carrots forever. Without spending any more ressources. Now you actually have to think of a solution and progress in order to survive.
And its realistic too. In reality you can't just forever use the same soil either.
Yup, its almost harsh to say, but it feels like false advertisement. "We're live inside the game!" implies, that what he shows us is part of what's included in the game and that in theory, I could build a house like that too. Thats a clear lie. I'm not sure if I actually bought the game back then if I would've known that content isn't even close to what's beeing promised there.
However the game itself still conviced me, so I'm not even mad. Already had alot hours of fun well worth the 20 dollars. Plus I'm sure that Jason will at least add enough content to keep the experience enjoyable for a while. But I can understand anyone who feels kinda scamed because of that.
My headcanon is that someone ran around with a knife and killed almost all humans on earth, completely destroying civilization as we know it. Only very few survived this troll apokalypse, but humanity got yet another chance to thrive under the kind protection of the carrot god.
Well its just like in our actual past. When we became farmers at first one person could barely feed himself and maybe his family by working hard all day. It took humanity a very long time improve farming to the point where its actually efficent enough to feed entire settlements and enable other specializations.
I think the curve will be similiar in OHOL as Jason adds more tech
Yeah its fucking shit. Like my recent game was shit
i was born a boy there was some guy who wanted to kill everyone non related like why.
so some years passed and legit everyone had bows and where shooting at each other
it was like a war or something.
i had to kill people too i was Lucky and got the knife. but i had to kill someone just to stay alive. but i rebuilded the city for the next generation. but it really sucks tho.
I feel you. Its happening alot at the moment. Yesterday some guy on discord even proudly presented screenshots of all the now empty villages he slaughtered. Some of those had been huge settelments with tons of ressources - now left to rott.
I love that idea! We definitely need more town guards.
Going to try that out a little bit today.
Unless you're building your village together in a premade group (using voice chat or something), then amazon villages are always doomed for failure. They usually don't last alot of generation because at some point no one has control over the population anymore and mass starvation follows. The logical consequence for having no birth regulation.
Because by raising only girls YOU give the control completely out of your hands, by granting every single person in your community the ability to increase the population as they please. While most of them, even if they're not new probably don't think much about the ressources they're going to need to feed all those mouths. The "tragedy of the commons" takes effect pretty quickly in a situation like that.
That's why I actually prefer sons, only ever keep 1-2 daughters and teach them to do the same when they become mothers. Males can't swarm the village with children, they will only ever cost the ressources they need to stay alive and will (in most cases) spent their entire life just working, helping the village to grow. So far that has proven very succesful for me and the communities I've build from scratch usually last a very long time. Sometimes I'm reborn inside my own village after half a day and its still flourishing better than ever, while neighbouring villages are often long dead.
In fact I'm pretty sure after some time, as the community of this game progresses and becomes better at managing civilizations, that the dominating kingdoms will work similar to ant colonies. There will always be one or maybe more queens (depending on the size of the kingdom) and they're going to be the one to manage the whole thing. Mainly by "producing" male workers, caring for them until they're old enough, assign them their specific task and only raising 1-2 princesses from which one is going to be their succesor.
Yup, its a desync bug. Sometimes people are randomly invisible and then you see stuff flying around, carrots harvesting themselfes and shit. Or in that case: You see your own bow and arrow coming to life and murder you lol
Well some people just grab everything they can from large villages, sometimes even cards full of food or clothes and just hide them somewhere in the wild. Saw that happen a bunch of times yesterday.
You really shouldn't be able to just "click" someone away like its no big deal, especially not with something as cheap and easy to make as a bow. Honestly I've never seen knifes as a problem and I've never been killed by one. They are more rare, harder to make and you have to actually be close to your victim to finish it off. So the dude following you with a knife in his hand will rarely be outside of your screen. And usually, when I see someone running around with a knife - I just stay at distance.
But bows, oh bows - they're an open invitation for everyone who doesn't like you for the oddest reason and make you just magically poof away. Instead of solving problems by lets say.. communicating? That is, if they're not shoting you just because they're bored or something. Most of the time you won't even know why someone way outside of your screen sniped you into oblivion, after you spend 20-30 years working hard filling the villages storage up with food, clothing or other ressources.
In my opinion you should at least need two shots or two people to kill someone. That way it wouldn't be so convenient without any possible consequences anymore, but you'd still be able to get rid of someone, if you really have to or just want to be a psychopath. Which is completely fine. I actually enjoyed when I saw for the time a dude going rampage with a knife - it was a different kind of story. I liked it.
But at this point the random kills are just becoming too much and I'm really sick of 60% of my lifes in big villages ending by beeing shot by someone I couldn't even see. It doesn't matter if you carry a weapon of your own with you, it doesn't matter if you just get rid of all bows and weapon inside that village - some random dude will just make his own bow quick and end you before you're even able think about defending yourself.
Oh and don't tell me its just more realistic that way, like some people did. Ever seen a 10 year old kid making a bow out of primitive tools and ressources and then snipe you in one shot without any training? Me neither.
