Yeah I was mostly calling back to previous iterations of the system. Previously once upon s time global curse total caused certain players to always show up as their donkey versions in town which caused people to curse check babies. In this system at least when someone was being a menace it was very clear to all players that so and so had been griefing in previous lives. This would obviously be problematic now because anyone who shows up cursed is probably going to get cursed regardless of what they did their current life. Good for griefer visibility, bad for redemption or unfairly cursed people.
The global + forced playtime curses made it so if you were going to grief on an account if you wanted to unbrick it you had to do the time for the crime. This was nice because A) it limited how much griefing one account could do, and B) served as a punishment even if it was just afk. This one sucked because 5 hours for 2 curses was rough. We once had a guy have to afk 22 hours to get out of donkey town dude to bring a cursed Eve during a server test.
The current system is good because at least it’s trying to place people away from people who don’t want them near. Absolutely sucks when people use curse my baby thought because there’s not a real clear way to guess why you aren’t spawning into a family since how spawning works.
Every system had its pros and cons, I think blessing will be the poor man’s phex chat. Phex is a global chat built into the hetuw mod that allows players to see user names and bypass language restrictions. Basically when people aren’t trying to hide or steal others names it easy to tell who is good or at least neutral. This isn’t to say blessings aren’t something to do just we have a mini version of it as is.
I mean maybe a few are nice but it becomes very visually noisy if you put a bunch of them down. Instant death seems fine, maybe the hungry grizzly becomes normal once it bites someone? This would swap it from follow to random which may or may not make things less chaotic.
Also I don’t know if you know but feeding a grizzly is kind of jank. Instead of the normal interaction of using A + B with your hands you actually have to make a grizzly bear walk onto a mutton tile instead of hand feeding it, not that I would want to do that myself but it makes regular grizzlies kind of rare since you have to know how to maneuver one onto a meat tile.
In regards to the bear thing: What if bears made you do a scared emote for some period of time after releasing it from the cave? This would prevent people from releasing more bears and would prevent players from just immediately releasing more bears. If bears attack and wound people when they come out it prevents legitimate bear hunters (not a thing I know) and also means one person could potentially release a few bears in quick succession if caves are close enough.
Thematically it makes sense because who in their right mind wakes up a bear like that and doesn’t immediately freak out. Though now that I think about it you could still wake bears when emoting but couldn’t get on your horse or whatever. Either way I think seeing a bear eat people in town is just an ohol right of passage. You learn to grow berries, grandma teaches you to bake, and your mom gets eaten by a bear in front of you. A true story or the ages. I think part of the issue currently here is the invulnerability since you don’t have to be careful at all when luring bears.
Maybe if the emote worked like yellow fever it would work. Basically cost some sort of pip cost, prevent picking up items, and maybe even clear yum. Releasing one bear might cost you ten pips and disable you from getting on your horse for 30 seconds but releasing multiple in quick succession would basically just kill you. Allows people to still hunt while slowing down bear spawning.
Yeah it’s something that has led to the current issue with excessive griefing. Most sane hardcore players may have 1-2 accounts they hop between depending on curses and what not but the system obviously doesn’t work against the player who has spent 15 dollars and gotten 15 accounts instead of 1.
While the discord can keep track of accounts thanks to curse names being global for everyone it becomes difficult to deal with trolls paying you pennies to grab a fresh account to return on. Basically they just grief, get sent to donkey town, switch accounts, grief, repeat.
I’ll be honest not real sure what the solution is. Curses blocking you born to them and then born to you would at least stop you from having the account near you and you near them but creates an arms race or trying to block both sides of this whole griefing thing from spawning anywhere besides donkey town
Picking lunch up real quick then can reply to the first message:
That’s true that we cannot stop people from giving you money, you deserve it for making a great game we all love. If reformed wants to pay off your house by buying more accounts that’s his problem lol. Hell he just bought another one two days ago - http://onehouronelife.com/fitnessServer … &id=120747
Right now one of the issues is that we believe people are buying alts using Argentina Pesos since it’s like a dollar USD which adds into the current griefing problem. We know of at least one person who has does this.
In regards to the whitelist and new people - I don’t know about anyone else but because these people are buying alts the “new player message” (at least for me) is a huge red flag not to keep a player and that’s absolutely awful. This is the twin issue again where a few bad apples are poisoning the well and making it so raising someone “new” is potentially a detriment and that’s just against the spirit of the game.
If a whitelist isn’t an option what about something that was brought up before? You have unlimited curses but they’re double sided blocks. If you try to curse everyone you’re cursing yourself out of all the towns. My only concern becomes though is that both sides of this conflict are basically going to park alts in towns to prevent each other from spawning. Both sides in the whole griefer v anti-griefers are going to essentially try to D town the other group
In Open Life Reborn you can much more easily fence your village, since you have natural obstacles like rivers or mountains that add to your fence, so you have much less work to secure your town. To the gate problem there is a fortification system in place, in short the amount of effort you put in something is round about the effort you need to remove it.
Due to how we changed gates to prevent the apocalypse gate wall fortresses you can’t actually use them for a fenced village. F = Fence B = blocking item G = Gate
B F B
F G F
You can’t leave your village anymore without elder note removal. Players can purposely launch stuff out of the fenced village via picking up a toddler in a cluttered area to launch out required items. Also people can just take your note off unless you sit and terrify people trying to remove your note.
-B F
X F G
-B F
If X is replaced by a gate you bust out the gate so there has to be at least two tile deep of fence or blocking objects. This pretty much guarantees you’re getting blocked in or having your gate smashed in.
It’s kind of funny to be honest. We had to change stuff to stop the dumb gate forts but because of the method of change tapout vs elder note or other method it completely removed the viability of actual fenced towns not that they’ve been a thin in years.
Again, before jason "balanced" things everyone could run off and create a new off-shoot town. It's annoying for all the new people to make splits BUT allowing people to make new towns allows everyone to start something new. Food degrading means only the best of towns can be off shoots as player have to make plenty of individual foods to make a viable town. Basically good players could make a new town which is good.
I mean the apocalypse is meant to be a player related means to wipe the server. A small group deciding to wipe the server =/= to a mass group deciding to wipe it. Every time we see a group wanting to wipe the server it's a small group. You guys need to get a majority group to wipe instead of a small group of new players trying to wipe it.
Exploiting an attempt should be met with others exploiting the game lol.
You are absolutely not intended to make an entire fort out of gates. Like it’s both a logical fail and a flavor fail for the best building material for walls to be gates. Neither side should have an unencounterable means of stopping the other. The apocalypse is about two sides fighting it out, not one dude afking on two accounts inside a bunch of gates.
Both exploits should be patched between planes and gates. Also anything that blocks needs to be able to be removed in some fashion as well such as stable bell tower bases as that’s the next sort of thing to be used in these sorts of attempts. I would hate to see the server arc be reset because Jason didn’t fix an underlying issue with how certain items work.
This attempt still would have been stopped without wondibles map because it was rather lazily only put 2-3k away from everything. I’d feel more inclined for the rings to start one stage later if it wasn’t for the fact that you need some sort of time to prepare the bits needed to stop an apocalypse.
Now that the dust has settled, what will be the title of Spoonwood's morally entertaining fork of the game?
He's a spoon, how in the world is he gonna fork? Where is forkmetal when we need them?
So what I've done is labeled all of the transitional changes on the github since these are going to be the safe and easy type of pulls since they're not going to mess anything up and can easily be approved or denied based on whether you like the idea or not.
With the content updates I'm absolutely willing to redo things that are approved if needed to get the object numbers to line back up. For example the current things needing to be skipped were my protofishing hole (changed it but left the old ones in the files which are 4748/4749 and 4750 is the lathe head fix which can just be redone.) If needed I can either make a video of content to both show it works and to get it approved or screenshots. I can remove several of the joke pulls like the alphabet soup/ridable farm animals or the collection of egg babies and skeleton puppets.
Some of the content such as fish and shrimp tacos being 4754-4759 I could always just create a few simple objects to fill the gap and then those transitions/objects don't need to be remade unlike some of the objects that are higher up on the list. Hopefully we can figure something out so you can worry about fixes and I can try to pump out some fun little bits of content to compliment the fixes.
Reminder not to click random links.
Yeah those are the bits and bobs that make up players. If you ever seen Pein’s breast mod you can see which part got altered. Also can turn your player from a grower to a shower but I think enough games have a penis scale in them.
Honestly, what should happen should just be a combination of multiple iterations of donkeytown mechanics.
1. Anyone you curse is blocked from being born around you. This takes care of trolls spawning if they’re cursed enough.
2. Having some sort of curse threshold marks you to everyone around you. This comes from the time when donkeys spawned like everyone else just with cursed bubbles. This denotes to players who may not have this player cursed currently that they’ve been deemed by X amount of people as a trouble maker. This can be hidden by not talking but is a very noticeable attribute if they do.
3. Donkeys with no viable spawn area go to DT. Really bad players will end up spawned away from everyone else, annoying players will end up with essentially server mutes unless speaking tests get reintroduced, and normal players will have an idea of who is a bad egg in the community.
This issue is though is that people will curse donkeys as soon as they see the black chat bubble regardless of whether the person is behaving or not. Needless to say that exactly isn’t fair to them, but neither is allowing wolves in sheep’s clothing to freely destroy things for the lols.
If griefing is to have an actual role in the game it needs to be directed onto other families and not be some random act of trolling or self sabotage. I of course don’t think we should allow griefing at all, but if Jason wants it to be a thing it needs to have a reason to exist.
X amount of play time + High meme score. Just bar anyone without so many hours from gaining leadership or whatever. There’s no reason someone with 3 hours played should be getting leadership as they don’t even know much more than the basics lol.
I usually destroy every marker thats in town.
People always put markers in the dumbest spot.
Putting your marker by the forge or right next to the fire is a sure fire way to get it chopped down.
Think it's because they are noobs.
Chopping them down has no effect on someone else’s marker so you should be removing them from the ground in the first place.
Homemarkers being made from skewers was generally always useful because it was quick to set up before the game was modded to not need them anymore. Digging up other peoples home marker doesn’t change where theirs points so it was beneficial to dig up other folks homemarker to both save space and reuse skewers.
I 100% disagree with the idea of changing the recipe as the current recipe is easy enough to do, is outdated due to mods, and making it more complex wouldn’t be beneficial to the people it is targeted to.
Because clearly bad words are worse than argument baiting. Ree why you say naughty terrible words.
Laggy be nice to the new person, it’s bad enough having to deal with spoon spamming threads on nonsense.
Slap whites + gingers together and blacks + tans together. Without even taking racism or any game mechanics into consideration the town populations look awful.
Black and ginger lineages can only have one type of female per generation which looks bad in my opinion. Your mom + aunts all look the same, you look like your grandma always due to how female models don’t birth the same models. Jason says there’s enough models but honestly towns have looked bland since he enforced same race babies.
Play nice folks. No reason for people to be reeing at each other.
It is definitely in the same style of the other thread and absolutely does not need another thread about the topic. It makes the forum look bad and actively discourages actual real discussion.
If you could keep your threads together instead of spamming out more that would be appreciated.
I smell a ban coming.

I recommend not griefing on the account as it'll go to donkey town after three curses but at the very least the account makes for a good thing to teach new people, let you relive in a different place, or even let your friend finally get to experience all the fun you've had.
As Jason said I should go move onto a less interesting game and I plan to do so. No better motivation than a forum ban and having other folks play on the account instead of me. Enjoy having the second highest play time and try to enjoy the game like I did.
I'd stick around but as much as I love the community it'll just make me want to get back into finding all the crazy bugs I can.
Have fun and good luck to all the other Eves.
