Nothing wrong with taking time contemplating more complicated questions to answer questions with more obvious answers.

Hopefully the fixes improved the player experience though.

Seems like he checks it once or twice a week.

Previously he has posted and interacted a lot at times; with approximately equal periods of inactivity.

Saolin, I'm not sure what exactly you're disagreeing with.

I'm saying that:
1. Highly visible items should be split into tech levels
2. They should also be rebalanced so that it always makes sense to use the last tech level over any of the previous ones

This is kind of a lot of work, yes.

Toxolotl wrote:

What would this tiered tech add to the game? Honestly town stages are super easy to see. Is there a deep well, newcommen well, or diesel well?

Again, these questions are something only an experienced player can ask.

What I'm saying is with the current tech stages this would't be much more than a pointless reskin.  New players might not know the names of the wells, but it's self-explanatory that a coherent, complicated tangle of shiny metal bits is pretty advanced; and that a stack of stone and wood that takes considerably more (immediately apparent) effort to operate to achieve the same result is not as good.

If your suggestion is to add multiple levels to existing facets of tech in the game with each one better than the last, especially if it was used as a way of prolonging advancement in tech instead of imposing more restrictions and limitations on what a player can do, than that would be good.

In most facets of the game currently low-mid level tech is the strongest.  Only newcomen well, newcomen tools, diesel engine, and oil rig & refinery enable improvement on previous stages of tech, and it's visually obvious that they're relatively advanced.

#29 Re: Main Forum » Tiered progression » 2019-12-20 20:10:41

What tech? The only tech that really matters is wells, engines, and oil stuff.

1: Walls and floors don't really matter, they just look nice.
2: low tier clothings are still the best ones for warmth. Higher tech clothing already distinguishes itself by looking nicer.
3: container effectiveness is self-explanatory.
4: food efficiency is not correlated much with tech level, if anything there's an inverse relationship.
5: I already addressed, there's only a few that could be considered advanced tech that also actually matter. Things like kilns and ovens are built so early that they're basically omnipresent.

#31 Re: Main Forum » Update v195: Temperature of Desert Buffed, (Jungles still op) » 2019-12-20 19:33:26

Yeah it still has relevance. the argument has been beaten into the ground already though.  Everyone has their own opinions and it's hard to prove everything definitively with too many variables. We just go around in circles stating the same points we have before.

It sounds to me like you aren't suiciding either.  Or at least not to become a Ginger, correct?

Correct.  I've hardly ever used the /die command. I used to when I'd get abandoned in the wilderness when born to a Mom on horseback. But since genetic fitness was implemented I wait until I starve now to punish them for it since they were making me take the fitness hit anyway, lol.

My feeling is it was an accident initially, that became intentional when Jason decided to leave it as is instead of fixing it.

I disagree elections are fun.
Also I would totally play as a peasant. Makes lives more interesting, you might be born into wealth or poverty.

One election would probably take a few minutes assuming you already had the people gathered, that could fun. 5+ elections though? That's gonna be like 1/3 of everyone's lives, including the elected. Even if everyone had the patience for it, at a certain point there's no time left to do anything anyway making the entire thing moot.

#35 Re: Main Forum » End Race Restrictions » 2019-12-19 19:28:04

Overall I haven't liked it. Some aspects of it are good, like making it more difficult to progress through the tech tree, and requiring players to communicate and cooperate to do so. Other than that though the restrictive nature of it is, well, restricting. It sucks when you get born into a town that's going through a water shortage that you want to fix but you're just left helplessly waiting/hoping that the appropriate family happens to appear to save everyone. I haven't got to work on oil since the update has rolled out, don't think I've even been born as ginger. Feels like I'm always plain white, but that's probably because that's when that situation arises most frequently since they're most susceptible to it.

Also I think the update would have a better feel to it if each race was able to complete unique items from start to finish instead of each having to contribute just raw materials towards a finished product. It's not satisfying because most of the time you can't see recipes to completion and are limited to just dropping off your skin's raw materials for the next person, unless you're the last person who had everything else gathered for you already. But that's not as satisfying either because then you don't have to work as hard for it and at that point it's no different from combining ingredients to make a pie or something.

#37 Re: Main Forum » I want tacos » 2019-12-19 19:08:50

Mm tacos. Just stop at the grocery store on the way home and make your own! It's not that hard. Just add tons of chilli powder if you're using beef and season to taste. If you're feeling adventurous you can make your own salsa which is much better than store bought - just chop some tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and jalapeno and add a touch of lemon juice!

#38 Re: Main Forum » Why go back east? » 2019-12-19 17:52:14

I also thought new spawns were to the east. One time a group of us were leaving a dying town and heading northeast towards a bell town, but I got separated from the group along the way and was wandering through endless untouched wilderness. Eventually I started second guessing if I was heading in the right direction since there were no signs of civilization and just started my own camp with a daughter since there were tons of resources around.

Yeah too time consuming.  At least with the order system there's a way to gather everyone without having to stab someone.

Yeah I guess you never mentioned stabbing specifically...

Anyway if this is an issue that's important to you, then fair enough. I think there's bigger fish to fry though.

#41 Re: Main Forum » Problem: Vegan and Vegetarian Families Can't Play Correctly » 2019-12-17 20:28:21

Yeah but your suggestion to stab another human to get the bones probably wouldn't resonate with vegans either for the same reason killing animals doesn't.

#42 Re: Main Forum » The forum is slowly dying. » 2019-12-17 19:38:41

One thing I noticed is discussion on here is largely fueled by Jason. When he's actively posting a lot more discussion is generated than when he hasn't for a few days.

Other than that, I can't really comment much on recent activity since I haven't been around here much the last few weeks, but there seems to be a normal amount of discussion to me. I comment more when I'm actively playing, but I've been playing banished and pokemon the last few weeks.

#43 Re: Main Forum » Problem: Vegan and Vegetarian Families Can't Play Correctly » 2019-12-17 19:26:06

So you're suggesting that vegans would find killing humans as an acceptable alternative to killing other types of animals? Something seems off with that line of thinking.

#44 Re: Main Forum » These Damn Animals Sneaking Up On Me » 2019-12-16 21:27:18

If you listen carefully you can actually hear the animals moving just off your screen - their feet make a sound when they move. However you don't know what direction they're moving, only that they're close, so it's not overly helpful.  I'd recommend moving a little slower when going through dangerous biomes. If you run at full speed in a straight line you tend to intersect paths with boars and wolves in a way that by the time you notice them you're both landing on the same tile.

Or a zoom mod mostly eliminates the danger since they can't ambush you as easily....

I'm explicitly assuming that the hierarchy system works. In that case your followers will listen, by definition smile

Windows for me too.  The issue persists on version 290.
