Troubleshooting
..the old version of the server might still be running in the background. The easiest way to resolve this would be to reboot the VM by running the command:
reboot
After rebooting this way, which I didn't try yet, instead of server mismatch, I get "Login failed."
I checked the server custom files of my new client and they are as they should be: "1""localhost" and "8005".
What could be the problem now?
Do you have a symlink to dataVersionNumber.txt?
Even after I looked up de definition of "symlink" I have no clue how to check that. My understanding of programming and server management is very basic.
I redid everything with a new clone of my old server (which runs fine on vs 75). I can login on the clone with my old client so there is no problem there.
My new client runs vs 82 and works on the official servers.
I update the clone, which should have worked because the serverCodeVersionNumber.txt reads 78. I restarted the VM several times and also my whole pc, just to make sure nothing is running. But now I get a version mismatch again "client is 82, server is 75".
I just don't get it.. How can an old version of the server be running after this?
I ran https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jason … tSystem.sh
restarted and ran pullAndBuildTestSystem.sh, then I get this reading:
ohol@ohol:~/ohol-build$ sh pullAndBuildTestSystem.sh
Already up-to-date.
Okay so the new update is just making everythign shit. I like the farming thing but the rest is pure shit. Heres some of my input on how to fix it!
Number 1 -
Make things decay much, much slower. Let's say I have a basket, right now baskets decay every 30 minutes and then they regenerate. Baskets and tools should decay after 60 - 90 years of use. As to not ruin organization and farming every 30 minutes.
Number 2 -
Make the items repearable. You can't do anything with broken items at the moment. Not even throw them in the pit. This makes huge amounts of trash that we cant get rid of. To prevent this items should be fixeable. Maybe add a toolbox that when combined with an item fixes it.
Number 3 -
STOP BREAKING OUR TOOLS AFTER LIKE 30 USES! I WOULD HAVE TO GO TROUGH 4 AXES AND 4 SHOVELS TO CLEAR A SWAMP FROM TREES!
I dont understand why Jason keeps making the game harder and harder even though everyone on the forum is telling him that it's absolutely not what we want! We want (at least most of us) small roleplaying trinkets, new animals, signs, adams and dads, and like a million other things that dont involve making the game almost unplayable because its so hard!
I am really salty about this, I just wanna have some roleplay fun and marry my brother but instead I have to survive as an eve every fuckign game trying to get to the bell of the same dying civilazation with rotting tools and a hardened farm every fucking game!

I was one of the people that suggested decay, but I honestly never imagined it would be implemented this way. It's just so tedious, having to replace baskets all the time (I'm not mentioning tools solely because I never had the chance to use them since the update; for 2-3 hours now I've been spawning to Eves, or as an Eve, never having the chance to make any steel stuff because survival). I second the suggestion for slower decay and more uses per item, and definitely, *definitely* the one about repairing stuff. I don't know how one could implement a decay system without a repair system to complement it, and a way to dispose of broken stuff; it's a bad idea all around. And they should be repairable with fewer materials than they took to create; a baskets with only one reed/straw bundle, for example.
And there's a difference between a hard game, and a tedious, unplayable one. Unfortunately, I feel like OHOL is rapidly becoming the latter. And I say that as a person that generally enjoys more challenging games.

@Jason Did you update the server files also? I get a server-client mismatch after I updated my private server.
I had to check the decay rates on https://kazetsukai.github.io/onetech, because I didn't encounter any established villages while playing for three hours. If you call being starved by mums over and over, or as eve looking for a sustainable spot "playing". It was actually rather frustrating to begin from scratch.
The decay rates of 2 hours or even less are ridiculous! Your 15 servers hardly ever hold 200 people at one given time @JASON!!
You say 5 generations, as if people play non stop at the same location. You know we are spread out all over the place.
Since Jason's latest update I get a version mismatch. It says the client is version 80 and my server is version 75.
I did run these several times and restarted the server:
sh refreshBuildScript.sh
sh pullAndBuildTestSystem.sh
and some stuff got updated but still I get a mismatch
does anyone else have this problem? and how can i fix it?
it seems that the refreshBuildScript.sh doesn't get updated
Decay is a good idea, but I think it should work on a much longer timescale

So far I only spawned to naked mums over and over, so there goes your idea of spawning by temp requirement...
I haven't seen any city yet or signs of decay, because I spawned in the wild with mums running around for a good spot to start a base, of which most of them left me to die.
Howdy,
We here are 2HOL have finished initial bug squashing and are looking for more people to test our content patch. This was a large update, and some things may be broken. This update focused on fleshing out the nomadic part of the game and some basic supply/demand stuff. Please review the following changes:
- You live 2 hours. After age 108, you get 8 hunger bars.
- Females are fertile until age 90.
- Wild carrots bear seeds again after 2 epochs.
- Wormless pits give new worms every 300 seconds.
- All trees are plantable. You need a shovel and compost.
- The apocalypse is disabled.
- Map tile culling is disabled.
- Violence against people is disabled.
- Shrines to your dead kin can be built. This starts a multi-generational quest to please the carrot god. He frowns on greed. This is a looping quest centered on ancestor worship and offerings.
- Doors can be locked with craftable keys. There are 9 variants.
- Stumps can be drilled to hide keys.
- Coins can be minted for trading. They stack to 15.
- Bellows can be removed from forge.
- Milk has been added. Use a bucket.
- Flatbread has been added. Use a flat stone.
- Cheesemongering has been added. Craft a creamery.
- Sandwiches have been added. Mutton sandwich is best sandwich.
- Silk farming and weaving has been added.
- Tents and robes can be crafted with silk.
- Camels have been added as a versatile mount and livestock.
- Camels can accept cargo crates, or be led with a bridle.
- Cargo crates hold 5 slots.
- Camels can be hitched, and must be unhitched with a bridle.
- Caravan camels can be ridden as horses.
- Plaster pathways can be crafted instead of wooden roads.
- And some stuff I probably forgot. Please join us on Discord @ https://discord.gg/atEgxm7
You can download the client @ https://github.com/frankvalentine/clients
Just put a random email address to login, ticket server is disabled.Thank you to everyone who has contributed art, ideas, animations, and testing hours. There is much more content to come, with another "worship" quest in the works for farm-centered societies. Hope to see you on the new map!
hi @sammoh is this still the server www.dyingworld.com aka twohoursonelife?
i've started a custom server list on the forum to try to get them all listed in one spot, see link: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=689
hi sammoh, is this still the server www.dying.world? aka twohoursonelife?
I like to thank you very much for these wonderful instructions and making the virtualbox image!
I made it work in one go and i'm not familiar with this program! ^^
It is 200 ppl now, see: http://onehouronelife.com/reflector/ser … ion=report
Ok, thanks for explaining I see that there was already a topic about your server, see: http://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=803. Is this info no longer valid?
Babsy wrote:If I understand correctly, these are instructions for people to set up their own server right? It is not just the server hosted by your friend.
Yes you are absolutely right! This is only for those people who want to have its own server to test all the things or want to play in a LAN for example.
Cool. I have added your instructions to my custom server list, see: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 4487#p4487
what if you want to go back to a different server. will the game still work or do you have to reinstall the game again without your mod? or will your installer make a whole new directory?
what is the name of the server?
Babsy,
The link to Sammoh's www.dying.world forum page in your OP actually goes to Zinchess'. You could link to the 2HOL discord page instead: https://discord.gg/atEgxm7.
Thank you for pointing out this mistake! I have added the right forum post now.
did the hunger go back to normal after the patch?
This seems like a tricky one. I understand the intent behind it, but the current mechanism could be used by a single player to wipe out what many others may have spent several game hours each to build. What about modifying it thusly:
1. Make the doomsday switch something you can only build and use through active collaboration between several players (like three players have to turn three keys at the same time or something)
2. Make the reset act as a "Prestige" in an incremental game, i.e. make something in the game improved every time the players achieve a reset. (could be things like berry bushes getting one extra berry, a new color you can dye wool with, one piece of higher tech left somewhere in the world, etc etc)
I'm thinking that the doomsday should feel like a collective achievement (and carry some reward). Maybe store info on how many civilizations each player has helped build, too (making it also a personal achievement)
Any thoughts about this approach?
I agree that it doesn't seem fair that one person is able to reset the whole server. You just gave griefers the best tool they need...
If I understand correctly, these are instructions for people to set up their own server right? It is not just the server hosted by your friend.
I've added your server to "THE LIST OF PRIVATE SERVERS". See forum topic: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=689
