Like DestinyCall said, people care a lot about iron, thats why there is a lot of iron, if people wouldnt care about it than no one would gather it.
Many people play this game because they want to help build a village / town / civilization, being part of something bigger, they selflessly gather the resources, not for them but for the future generations.
THIS is what makes the game so much fun, but some people like jason dont understand this, he doesnt understand whats the core strength of this game, and he works against his, damaging the most important aspect of this game.
Jason you keep adding weird mechanics that are not intuitive.
Coming up with good mechanics that makes sense and fit the game is more difficult, yes,
but good realistic mechanics are what i would expect from someone with so much programming experience like you who wants to make the best game ever.
Jason wasted months working on the rift, race restrictions and tool slots, none of them made the game better.
The interactions you have with other people are now not more interesting than they were before, i would argue they are even less interesting.
If he adds this idea he will also work months on it and it will not make the game any better.

This weeks update will make it so your family can only get babies when they are in the range of your family well.
So when a family makes a well, it becomes their well and only near it they can get babies, to prevent mixed towns with different races.

Oh right, i forgot about those logs, but i think its not logging the player hash, so you cant track players over several lives.

I've been born in Qin town several times over the past few weeks, and there's always water around, but no oil. When I walk around asking people where they're getting water from, nobody knows. Where are you getting oil from? Again, nobody knows. There's no pressure currently, because of water reserves, so they're kinda coasting on the work of previous generations, for now, and they don't need to know right now.
The reason because no one knows is because 99% of the people dont know how to get oil.
Please make logs to see how many % of all players have ever gathered oil or made an engine.

The letter system is nice, interesting to make etc.
But to make the letters to write something as simple as "BAKERY" or "TAILOR SHOP" takes a whole life (or even several), with signs you know right away what is what dont need to pick up a note but currently it's underused due to this issue.
The problem is not making the letters themselves, the issue is needing xx ammount of skewers and the whole process of getting them.
Could one skewer/weak skewer give a pile of letter stocks?
Why do you want to make it easier to make signs?
Why dont you ask people to help you make signs? It would go much faster if you ask people

Why not remove the food bar? What a stupid restriction to be needing to eat food and why not infinite water and unbreakable tools too?
You are confusing something,
Race restrictions make it impossible for you to do the certain things. The same with tool slots.
If all your tool slots are used it is impossible to use another tool.
But a food bar doesnt remove anything from the game, it makes it harder, the same with needing more water or breakable tools.
If a tool breaks, you can make another, if you run out of water, you can get more.
Forced restrictions that take away your ability to do something are not fun at all, its fun to interact with other people, yes, but not if its forced and you can do less because of it.
Its like someone comes to you and breaks your legs and now you need another person that moves you around in a wheel chair.

Problem with that is that like half the people would bail, and then you have a bunch of zombie people standing around with no one controlling them.
When i restart my local server it takes 2 seconds, idk maybe it takes longer with the public servers. But i think as long as it takes less than 15 seconds most people will stay.
Even if half of them became zombies i would still prefer this system over the current one, but it was just an idea, its not so important.
Could make the server restart mechanic so that as soon as you make the server restart it kicks all players and in the client a message appears "waiting for server restart", than as soon as the servers are online again the client reconnects and the player gets back to the exact same life they had (same age, same character, same position)
In game you only belong to a certain village for one life, after that you might be reborn in another village.
If you see another village and they need something that your village has, why not give it to them for free? You might play in that village your next life and than you are happy that you gave it to them.
If you could only respawn in one village, than this village would be your village, you would feel more connected to it and less connected to the other villages, maybe than trade between villages could happen.
But I dont mind the way it works now. I like to improve life in all villages, its nice.
OHOL is a very unique game.
You get born to a random person every game and you can only live 60 min max in each life. In other games like minecraft, rust, WOW... you can keep returning to the same character, there is no old age.
When you do something in the other games, you do it for yourself, for your character, because you want to be it better in the future.
BUT in OHOL most people when they do something, do it for the greater good, not for their character, their character lifespan is very limited.
Most people work together to build a great civilization.
This is a nice game mechanic, but it makes it so that trade and property is pointless. You play as all characters and in all villages, no point in trading with yourself.
This game fundamentally doesnt support trade and that is OK. We dont need trade, trade is not what makes this game great.
But jason still tries to force trade and property, with fences, rift, tool slots, race restrictions...
This goes against the core design of the game and does a lot of harm.
Jason please realize what this game is about and focus on its strengths.
Follow the flow of the river, dont try to redirect it forcefully.

i just made an update, you can now use CTRL + Mouse Click to remove a coord in the list. (idea by DavidJ361)
Is there a reason my screen keeps shaking after installing the mod and running it. it only shakes when im idle and only when it wants to as it seems.

Racial lock was doomed from the start because it wasn´t designed to give each race something special to work with, it was designed as a restriction. The same happens with tool slots, the don´t incentive work specialization: they just block other jobs, which is frustrating and enraging, not rewarding and fullfilling.
Yes it would have been much better if it was designed to give advantages instead of restrictions. For example if you use one tool often you get better with it and can use it more efficient, maybe the tool has a lower chance to break and you can produce more stuff. (but you should not be forced to use one tool often to do something)
The same with races, advantages instead of restrictions and you should not be forced to be a certain race to do something.
