Just from playing i feel there was a drop in baby abandonment. I only play one or two games a night now, but it only takes me 1-4 respawns to find a mom willing to care for me. Used to be wayyyy worse. Ive even played as a boy in some of the lifes. Very liberating.
However i tend to spend my whole life building a sheep pen every time.... somehow i dont think it takes sixty years to build a sheep pen.... but regardless big fan of the lineage ban. Has made griefers far less common to see in a single given life.
So your a healing plumber lol
Baking can still be good when the shepards are working hard. Mutton pie rules
This can actually happen already i spawned in a city as eve twice saturday.
I made a sign that said dicks and locked it... then ran far far away with the key....
10 out of 10 would do again lol
edit: did do again
I once murdered a whole town because they were rude to me as a baby... sorry town.
This was before naming, and apocalypse update when big towns were everywhere. I ran of to the walled town to the west, and led a productive life baking pies after someone taught me how. I was reborn to someone scavenging the town i killed. My mom called me turnip, and thats when i decided to live in peace for the rest of my lives.
PS. Im not above murdering people for sheering all the sheep/picking all the berrys. After asking them to stop.
jasonrohrer wrote:he original idea for OHOL was that everyone would get to play a single life, and that was it. You pay $5 for this insanely amazing hour that you will never forget, and then at the end of it, you say goodbye forever. Literally ONE LIFE, and only one life.... imagine that game for a minute...
I DESPISE subscription based games like that, never buy anything like that. Also imagine how pissed off people would be when starved as a baby..
Yeah glad you didn't go this way i woulda never played... probably why you decided against it...
I just died as a Potter. Maybe 2 hours after your post. The village had maybe 8 to 10 people running around including several of my kids. I finally got to old to have kids and was free to explore. Dang snake in the trees.........my golden years gone!
Thats the worst i love my golden years as female
Oh 100 % its a dick move. I agree completely that you need to clean up after yourself. I was talking more in the case where you have a bunch of sheep, and a bunch of dung. If theres a berry excess large enough, and you feel like you NEED wool just feed and sheer the extra sheep to avoid making the mess..
And trying to promote giving people a warning, and offering to teach them a better way to achieve their goal before stabbing them. If they refuse to learn by all means go all stabby sttabby
Thankyou for the info!
You shouldn't stab anyone for fucking up once they will die and not learn. Try to teach then if they keep going stab them.
Make all the wool you want just leave one sheep unsheared. Just like leaving one row of carrots, or one peice of wheat for seed. That way if you need poo you dont have to get two bowls of berrys
I put in a life to sixty in this town as well. I was a female asia boots mom named all of us asia. It ran like clockwork until my hair greyed. I had a key to the lockbox, and spent all my time composting and making mutton pie.
Sadly i had to kill a boy for picking berrys by the carrot patch. There were plenty of carrots, and i asked him to stop, but he just kept picking them and filling baskets. So i stabbed him.
I explained myself every time someone inquired about the corpse, most understood (seeing the berrys all over the place, and his corpse right by the grove)
If that boy is reading im sorry, but you wouldn't listen, and the town needed those berrys.
I died of old age after locking my knife, and the extra key back in the box. (Sorry couldnt find someone trustworthy to pass it on to).
It was a very nice town i left it with four composting piles and three baskets of pie. I hope its still going.
one of the most rewarding things in this game is teaching new players...
i mean talk about a legacy you helped someone do a better job forever!
i still remember the kind old man who taught me to farm. the kind uncle who showed me how to bake. the wonderful lady who showed me around a forge.
this was all before the name update but hey thankyou to all the teachers of ohol! you make this game worth playing!
also this is teacher appreciation week in the US so WOOT!
I let alot die while i get farm started. Id like to be able to raise everyone, but you cant support 10 kids on 5 berry bushes long enough to get a bowl or a waterskin.
Usually try to keep a boy and a girl.
When in a town i usually just keep an eye on the food supply and raise kids accordingly. Even some brand new people can be a huge help, because they watch other people and just copy what they do. Others are just carrot sponges... but hey they gotta learn somehow.
No no no no dont make dung decay pleassseee. Ill move it if its in the way
Yeah i guess it is personal responsibility, but if one female goes unnamed the whole civilization can loose their last name forever with no way to reinstate it.
You can say "Na" "me" pretty early, but most mothers are upset by this and name you "asshat" or "pushy" or something like that. Which ill take over no name, but it seems like the last name should carry on whether your mom gives you a first name or not.
Some kind of family tree browser or something similar is coming, which will allow you to peek in on your true legacy (the people who survived after you, and more importantly, because of you).
This will transcend any limit on revisiting your village.
Can we get an update so unnamed kids keep the last name of their parents? Pretty please!
Hmm... maybe it's not working?
Also, there is currently one way you can play in the same family twice in the same 3-hour period.... and that's if you're Eve.
If you're Eve, you have no lineage set, which means you get one more chance to get born into your family later.
This is kind of a nice side-effect, a bonus for being Eve. Also, Eve is much less likely to come back and grief her own village, right?
Maybe this is what happened to you, Turnip?
Yup i was eve that explains it. Thats a great loophole!
On the note of leaving a legacy i think i finally see it. Ive had to play as eve in at least 60 percent of recent lives, about half of which ive made a good pad for my decents to live. And only about 30 percent of the time one of my kids is still alive until i die.
But when i die i say im proud of them, and tell them that this is their town now, and that i hope it prospers. I dont explain some grand plan i had. I just tell them to have fun.
Thats a legacy im proud of. Yeah its short lived and i rarely get to see it again, but i like it. I let someone else start at the point the game gets to be more fun. When you can smith, bake, find sheep, and such.
It is a shame that you can't ever end up being reborn to your child, as that was always kind of interesting when it randomly happened now and then. Though it is probably a good change, since it does stop several other issues. Like people respawning same spot to grief people, or to get revenge, stops a boy from killing themself in an attempt to respawn in same spot as a boy, and hinders baby suicide in general. So it does a lot of good for the slight negative of missing out on the random interesting situation where you meet someone from the previous life.
On the bright side, there is the possibility of being respawned in a town more often if it is successful and has multiple families living in it.
idk about this i was reborn to my daughter in the last 30 minutes. was a great experience. nothing is better than being reborn to a village that is better than you left it with a last name you nurtured.
one of the best experiences ive had in a while on this game died at 40 so the food supply would last for my daughter and my granddaughter until the carrots grew. then a few short lives later (born to struggling eves) i was reborn to a potter turnipseed.
i name all my kids potato , sadly it turns to potter, but its how i know they were my kids...
maybe change has not taken place yet?
Edit: this was on server one so id assume server population was plenty high
you start at one letter when your born its normal
Horn knifes from mufflon... could be used to chop the mutton.. mabey a chared mufflon on coals giving less food than cooked mutton.
Possibly using a skewer on a flatstone to make the ember to start a fire.. at the cost of the skewer, and i dont know about anyone else but i can get tinder with my hands... dont need an axe to start a fire i mean id use one if i had it, but you should be able to rip small enough branches off a dead tree mabey to get some useable tinder.
Basket backpacks that decay by the end of your life..
Something tells me this game wasn't made to support a good nomadic experience. If it wasn't for Europeans coming to america im sure the many nomadic indigenous tribes of the Americas could of supported their lifestyle indefinitely.
If i find it im gonna change it to "duck-sick" and leave a dead goose there
So it wasn't actually keeping only girls that killed them, but you.
I used to be in the boys are useless camp, but ive actually seen only keeping girls kill towns due to overpopulation. Not to justify what the OP did. If you dont like how people play just find a new town.. once ive put down roots i usually keep all my kids and natural selection takes care of the rest... if everyone is contributing the more the merrier. Though its rarely the case
I would love some sort of heal feature. An ointment or something.. mabey a bandage made from wool that has been boiled... requiring someone else to apply it quickly.
