it's not really logical, real life reed baskets last for over a hundred years when maintained, indefinitely with repairs. Metal tools last for around two hundred years with maintenance. Furs and hides last around 100 years. Real life isn't really related to the game, lol.
Would be nice to get more use out of things though i had to make three hoes last night in one village
Great idea. Makes no sense why a reed skirt would last longer than a rabbit pelt.... but good to know they dont decay!
I'm sorry this happened to you. It's rough when your own child turns violent against you.
Trust your instincts. Better safe then sorry when dealing with a potential murderer.
Generally i kill anyone with a weapon unless i trust them, or know what they wanna do with it.
You've been catching alot of shit lately from almost everyone, myself included. I just wanted to say thank you for working through the weekend to try and fix the disconnecting issues.
The updates are very appriciated. its good to see progress towards a better experience.
Im sure we will throw flak at you every time you make big changes, but im sure at the end of the day youll give us a great game.
Keep your chin up. Dont be afraid to piss us all off. (Though your obviously not lol)
Rule 11: Almost forgot. Only eat picked carrots. If none are picked, die.
big fan of this rule although stating it has gotten me stabbed
like the idea of it. hate the implementation. metal tools should be able to be scrapped for some material or the heads reused i mean i have my great grandmothers garden hoe. it's on its third handle but still works, and why cant i burn a broken skewer? if for nothing else than to get rid of it
Yeah this update is aids. I tried make it work, but everyone seems to be giving up, so I did like the others and just made sure I grief every milkweed, convert every berry to seeds, dig and eat every carrot that's seeding and make 100 bone needles.
Was already too easy to grief, too hard to cooperate, now it's absolutely unplayable.
Dude i hate the update too but no need to screw it for the 8 people still playing this build
I really enjoyed teaching noobs. Naming them potato and asking them what they want to do when they grow up. Bringing them to the station and showing them the ropes. Sadly not a thing anymore

He is trying to slow us down so that he can catch up and create new content. The problem is that he keeps having to deal with setbacks that the previous update produced. The updates over the past couple weeks show this to be the case.
i'd daresay you're right on the mark there, but i don't think it's a good way of dealing with the problem. it's absolutely frustrating to see the game stagnate instead of advance - feels like one step forward and three steps back lately. i'm sure it's not going to last forever, but neither is my interest in the game.
plus i know for me personally, the game trailer gave me the impression that there was quite a backlog of big tech updates already waiting for us that he would implement in chunks every week. it was a bit of a disappointment to realise that this wasn't the case at all.
maybe just let us enjoy it while working on new stuff instead of taking weeks to push us all back? i'll wait for good content even if it only comes once a month. Jason obviously worked hard on this last update he had to do a lot of work last week, but i feel like he worked on the wrong things.
half the time when i spawn as a baby i get to hear the other person gripe about the current state of the game, and I've got to agree. the only good things we've gotten is stone buildings and a (really cool) monument. the rest have just been making an already difficult game even harder. i mean only way to compost is sheep... has he ever tried getting sheep? it takes a minimum of two lifetimes to build the cage and capture the sheep. then you have to put up infrastructure to support them IE berry farm.
plus new people are absolutely screwed i finally had time to teach people again just before the update, and now everyone is scrambling again.
Karma is a visible stat that helps your Mom decide if she wants to raise you.
A colored name gradient from say blue to red would be a nice indicator of someone's reputation. Tracking it is the problem. Things can be good or bad based on circumstances. A prime example is wheat. You need some to compost, but if someone plants all the feilds with it you will starve out. So you cant inherently say planting is "good" . People grief all their lives but still die at sixty so age wont work. Mabey a player rating system... but that could get complicated.
I still think stockcades requiring two people to lock/unlock and branding is the best way to go. That way a lone griefer cant use it, but the town could effectivly remove a griefer from their town for a while. Forcing them to spawn as a male far away.
I think that books should be added to OHOL. Books would be so useful: people could use them as guides for new players, or, if their village was dying out, they could write something about it for travelers that came across their village in the future. It would be so cool to come across a dead village and see a book lying around, and then reading it and learning about the village's history. It would also be great writing these books and thinking about travelers of the future that would read the books.
I agree. Teaching a kid about books would be way easier than teaching the everything manually. Would take pressure of a mother with six kids to teach them all carrot farming.
Mabey a rabbit fur string and wood pulp. Like bowl of simmering water+tinder= bowl of simmering fibre+round stone= bowl of pulp+ flat rock = paper + rabbit fur= rabbit fur and paper+ needle and thread= blank book + charcoal= written book bringing up a little text box.
Would be a big job for jason, but i think it would add alot to the game. Being able to write some local lore would be really neat. Mabey even a book documenting past generations.
Also, can we please taboo the world word "karma"? It's as vague as "magic".
Karma is generally understood to be a reflection of past actions on future occurances it is in no way vauge like magic. And it is very relevant to being reborn, as some people believe it dictates what class you will be reborn into when you die in real life. It is a widely understood concept with clear definition.
Maybe you can respawn on the same server over and over, in the same hour, but your later spawns are as lone hermit men?
All of this makes "quit playing for an hour" seem like the best option for the player. That's a very risky incentive for me to build into the game...
I think a branding iron a way to knock someone out and some sort of stockade. (Mabey takes two people to carry someone to a stockade) where you can brand them to trigger the cursed life. That forces you to live your next life to X years old as a hermit man. This way it takes several steps and at least two people to trigger the event. This would prevent griefers from using it to mess with "good" players. The only problem is having the server track them if they just rapidly kill themself
Whoops...
Yeah, the "feed anyone" thing is great for most things, because it allows food delivery people to make rounds and feed the guards or blacksmith.
I forgot that it implies anyone can feed anyone mushrooms too...
I'll have to think about a way to fix that.
Please let me feed them to babies still i have had many people thank me for making those normally boring minutes as a baby more fun
every time i find some i try to feed them to random family members. its funny to see who's in the know and who thinks their game is buged
Zwilnik wrote:The problem with spawning as an eve is that unless you specifically make them barren, innocent players can be born to them as babies and share their punishment and/or be griiefed by them.
I agree with this. I think that a serial murderer should receive the Mark of Cain and spawn as a Cain in the next life, i.e. a grown male in the wilderness. To remove the mark of Cain, you have to live a whole life until 60 (which is a bit of a challenge in the wilderness, and requires that you sustain yourself buy actually playing the game as intended). If living to 60 proves too difficult, then 120 minutes of gameplay as Cain could also wipe the mark.
You would get the mark of Cain if you kill more than one person within 60 minutes of gameplay. If you kill many, you could receive more than one mark that you would have to wash away by spending several lives as Cain.
love this idea!
It was awesome. Though the effects were no more than eating three mushrooms just FYI for anyone curious. make sure to have food on you when you do it cause you wont be able to find any I promise.
snakes are more fun because I can respawn faster...
I know they are useless, but who else wants a penguin hat?
Sadly unless someones still living there there is almost no chance you will ever stumble upon a camp. the new spawning system spawns you far away from discovered places to keep things "fresh". your best bet is to respawn repetitively until you find someone else's home that is already fairly developed
Jason said in the discord that is turned of for now , back to work
its not off happened again.
and yet i still get shot by some rando eve with a bow... wow thanks eve
We've talked with Jason, he'll probably make it significantly harder in the future. It's definitely not going away, though. He sounds like he has his heart set on it.
i like the idea alot just seems like an easy way for grievers to screw over everything
well the Apocalypse is just another tool for grievers and the need for worms to compost just makes playing that much harder. what are we supposed to do just start from scratch all the time? i enjoy the grind as much as anyone else, but this is ridiculous. it is way to easy for a solo player starting in a moderately advanced town to trigger the end of the world just for "funzies". i loved respawning in a town i helped found and getting to build upon it. not saying apocalypses are bad just too easy to trigger. if i spawned in a town with a pickaxe, and a cart i could easily do it in one life. come on now were just giving grievers more ways to screw us over.
There should be a way. Karma dictates how you are reincarnated, so it is said. Those logging in with their game keys should be marked as consistent murderers and you should not be able to kill people at all with a temp-login.
man karma is a great idea considering respawning is a lot like reincarnation.
