I'm also really not a fan of the new 3x3 area for compost. Having to carry every basket of soil over to the farm makes no sense to me, it's so much easier to make compost the way it used to be by having one next to each farm. It's not as pretty but it's far more convenient and easier for new players to find.

If you are born to the same mother twice, it's best to just wait a minute or two before you hit "login" because then you give someone else a chance to be born there and you're more likely to get a different mother.

Some people don't curse, some people curse for everything. I keep track of all the curses I give usually so I can keep an eye on them if I see them again...or curse them more if they did something bad enough. Does anyone else keep track of who they curse and what for?

Obviously these names will show up different to you all but these are the cursed ones that I wrote down since that update:

* Slave Earth: This person built a flat rock pathway in the shape of a swastika then tried to defend it by saying "hitler wasn't that bad". I've run into this person several times, they are almost always building roads and are fanatical about the road being straight with no curves, this is the same person that built all the little trading posts that have roads going in all four directions. This person I curse twice every life I see them.

* Oats Soul: Kept saying the n word over and over.

* Geese Geese: Trained a bear into town.

* Dream Idea: Named her child Ass then she tried to starve her baby in the woods.

* Troll Brain: Stabbed her two children

* Truck Ghost: Hit a pit bull in town which then killed a bunch of people

* Cane Jane: trapped me till I starved

* Party Clump: While in a white village, the first jungle person that showed up she called N...

* Swamp Table & Child Bird: While at donkey town, these two continually harassed the neighboring non-donkey village. They stole tools, broke fences, brought bears, constant griefing.

* Truck Truck: Spent his entire life only saying the word "mama" and held a baby till it starved.

* Salad Home: Broke many floors then started dozens of fires using all the towns wood.

* Elbow Horse: Called me a whore & named other people's babies rude names

* Fog Hint: Named her baby N...

* Board Bowl: Killed all the sheep then lied about it

Plus about a dozen others I've cursed for stealing, attacking people with knives for fun, being a baby bouncer, or a runner baby but I don't keep track of those.

Back to the original comment, I haven't been the news reporter (I should do that some life) but I do enjoy it when other people play as the news reporter, especially if they do it will. If so then I'll try to feed them some stories like a marriage taking place, change in rulers, etc.

#55 Re: Main Forum » Facial expression for whole life » 2020-04-08 05:33:02

I like it as well, especially when its my baby. Because I understand that it is something that creates a unique playstyle, people react to you differently based on which face you have on. Some people will really hate you if you have angry face on all the time. But if it's my baby then I can defend them and their playstyle because they aren't hurting anyone.

#56 Re: Main Forum » a very berry problem » 2020-04-08 05:30:13

Maybe by having things be visually different. Such as have the berries 3x3 surround the well then have the walkway outside of that ring be 2 wide then outside of that ring have the non-berry patches be a different shape like 4x2.

#57 Re: Main Forum » What is racism? » 2020-03-30 06:50:09

Excellent summary DestinyCall! It comes to mind, even today playing in OHOL, because many times I've seen a baby born and their first word is the N word. Yes that is racist BUT it's also systemic racism for all the other people who see the baby do that and tolerate it...or even punish me for cursing that racist baby. I see both forms of racism in this game regularly, the individual saying racist things and the people around them who let it happen.

#58 Re: Main Forum » What is racism? » 2020-03-29 17:24:33

Since a lot of new players don't know about or understand the racial restrictions in this game, their first reaction is usually calling the mechanic racist. I've seen this reaction multiple times. In game, rather than saying "We need to find the black people to get sulfur" I'm going to say "We need to find the desert tribe to get sulfur".

This post brought to my attention that I should stop using racial descriptions and instead use biomes to describe the families: desert tribe, jungle tribe, arctic tribe. Even though it is a game and it's the game's mechanic, words and labels do mater and I don't want to normalize anything that contributes to real life hate.

FYI This is a pretty good book about race, So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo: https://www.amazon.com/You-Want-Talk-Ab … 220&sr=8-2

It be nice to see that place painted in black and red; those seem to be two of the more common colors I recall in most thetres.
Maybe turn the audience area into a nursery for awhile, with fire and food, so mothers and their kids can watch the show while the kids grow up?

Could even get the kids in on the acts, with masks and costumes.

I remembered seeing this post then the other day I came across the Theatre! I decided I'd try to bring it to life. The town had a radio and I was female so I was going to put the word out. I would regularly go to the radio and put out a casting call for actors. I found one woman who was interested and she started collecting costumes and wood for tables to be concession stands. We built a bunch of tables in the back and filled them with pies, drinks and popcorn.

I introduced each of my kids to the theatre but none were interested but one. Rather than putting on a play, my son gathered dice, cards and a goose and was a magician. He performed some tricks for me and it was really cute. Unfortunately we never had an visitors because it's too far away from the city center. It needs a more natural way for people to come inside such as a radio inside, maybe a bell, or a baby fire.

#60 Re: Main Forum » Fatherhood Won't Happen » 2020-03-02 20:19:54

I actually like the roleplay aspect of fatherhood. I have had fathers and I have been a father in many lives. I get a dad usually when a mother is afk or abandons me and a father adopts me. Becoming a dad is similar, either I adopt someone because again their mother was afk or abandoned them. OR I become a father why wooing the mother. If I want to play a life as a dad then I start young, usually me as a kid and I flirt with someone my age. Call her pretty, blush and give her a flower. If she rejects it then I move on and find someone else, but if she accept it then that is usually the start of a courtship where we might marry and she brings all her kids to me as the Dad.

I think Jason's decision to just update the text makes the most sense when evaluating risk vs reward from a developer's point of view. I'm ok with it.

How did it take away playing in beginning towns?

Veteran players take the long view.    When they look at a shallow well, they are thinking about what they need to do to turn it into a deep well.    When they see a deep well, they are thinking about the steps required to turn it into a necomen pump.

And when they see a single-race village, they are thinking of how much work it will take to find blacks, browns, and gingers before the water runs out.

....

That's how race restrictions have ruined the early village experience.    As an experienced player, it is hard to relax and enjoy building a young village, far away from the big cities, knowing that there is an almost impossible roadblock looming in the immediate future.    It is a lot harder to get invested, when you know that your work is probably wasted in an isolated village or off-shoot town.    You might as well /die until you reach a bell-town.   That's a lot faster than walking by foot.

Not all experienced players WANT to play in crowded bell towns, but that is the "best" solution to the problem presented by race restrictions in the current meta.    It dooms many villages, because people will abandon the town to head to the nearest bell, if it is available.   There's no point in staying.

+1, well said! IMO this all comes down to the bell. Bell = town survival. Having a bell means that all races will find you eventually and that town can work together to solve any water problem. The problem with bells is that only gingers can get gold. Gingers become the town creators, then blacks are likely to show up next because they have horses. Browns and whites have to abandon their towns in favor of the gingermade bell towns because no one will find them.

Some solutions could be for Gold veins to spawn in mountain biome for everyone to get. Or maybe create a new item that doesn't use gold, maybe a shorter bell tower that uses iron but the sound doesn't travel as far. Something that allows races to find each other easier, especially for brown families.

Sounds like it is working correctly to me.     If a person has cursed you, then you cannot be born to them OR to other people who are close to the person who cursed you.

Curses last for thirty days.   If there are multiple people currently in the game who have you cursed, your area of restriction increases, preventing you from being born to more potential mothers.    If there are no valid mothers available to you, then you will be born in Donkeytown.    If fewer players are currently on-line or if someone logs off, your curse burden reduces, allowing you to spawn normally again.

It sounds like you are right on the cusp of being stuck in Donkeytown.   Whether you can spawn normally or not is probably dependent on how many people who cursed you in past lives are currently playing the game, blocking you out of the existing villages.   The good news is that if you are careful to avoid more curses, you should be able to go back to spawning normally in time, as the oldest curses expire.    The bad news is that you should probably stop killing people for a while.

ty for explaining how it works.

Yeah I don't have a problem being in Donkey Town, it felt broken that I was being born to Donkey town and then regular town back and forth, that felt broken. So I was checking.

I've been to Donkey Town before because I tend to be a griefer killer which gets me curses. So I'd spawn in at Donkey Town, next life I spawn into a mother like normal. Do nothing and try completely do avoid any negative interactions to avoid getting cursed. No one cursed me that life but next life again I'm at Donkey Town. Back and forth like that.

Daily now it's hit or miss if I spawn in at DT or if I spawn in to a mother. Same story almost every day for like a week or two now. Every day I play a few lives and every day I have a few lives in DT and a few born to mothers.

It doesn't seem like it's working correct. I thought it counted the number of curses you have and if over a certain amount then you go to DT. Is it because I've cursed so many other bad players that I have no where to spawn and it's defaulting me to DT?

Anyone else seen this happen for them?

FYI there are 3 Nosajs south east of Donkeytown, I built a makeshift path using branches and rocks to all 3. I'ts pretty easy to find. When going east from Donkey town (the one and only bell), you end up at a dry well site, just south of that is where my trail starts.

#66 Re: Main Forum » Living the dream. » 2020-02-21 07:10:16

Ignore the negativity from Spoon, this was a beautiful story. Some of my favorite lives lately are where I build or take over a little cottage near town and raise a family there. Surprising how many kids stick around and join in when they are given a safe home with a purpose.

Bug: The black text and cursed code doesn't display on Eves without names. In this example, I wrote down a cursed players code "Cane Joke" because they were an eve from Donkeytown that was griefing our town. A new eve came back to our town to grief but had no name and no automatic text. Only once I cursed this new eve it display "Cane Joke" alerting me to this bug.

Feedback:
1. Donkey town was blissful for quite awhile and it should not be, DT people should not spawn near each other to make a village.
Details: Somehow some people immigrated to live 0.4k south of Donkeytown. I should say, as a griefer killer I have been sent to Donkeytown because I get cursed a lot. Before outsiders immigrated there, Donkeytown was practically heaven. It was peaceful and you recognized most people, no kids meant that no one was lazying about on a fire, everyone was a productive adult building their pet projects. This is NOT how Donkeytown should be. It should NOT be a reward where people want to stay. Many donkey town residents, were happy and eager to get more curses so they could stay because it was so nice.

2. Cursing Donkeytown eves doesn't make them spawn far enough away if you live near Donkeytown.
Details: A war broke out between the southern village and Donkeytown. This time I had served my time and was born into the southern village. I dunno what happened to trigger the war, when I started playing today it started (from my viewpoint) with a DT eve coming south and stealing our bellows and tools in a cart. I chased her off and got the tools back. Anther DT eve came (maybe the same one) and built two property fences right next to our village and started stealing noob babies and locking them to die. Another DT eve joined in and started stealing carts and tools and dumping them in the desert were we couldn't get them. We decided it would have to be like in the arc days and build a property fence to keep the town safe but DT eves tore them down, almost killing us to extinction until we gave up and ran. Dozens of us cursed the eves and they were happy because it means they stay in their happy town longer.

Yes I know people should not have immigrated to Donkeytown but it probably happened because it was the only bell. Basically Donkeytown should be a boring punishment and not a peaceful village and definitely not a place to repeatedly torment a town near their spawn point. Every respawn and every curse should send them further out, X tiles away from all others even other DT eves.

TBH is really sounds like you are upset with the game and have quit. Misery loves company so you want others to quit with you. However, looking at this objectively it's clear you are passionate about the game and angry, not sure why but angry about something. If you weren't, you wouldn't bother coming back to the forums, instead you would take your own advice and leave it all behind. I felt that way too once. I did quit during the arc era and it was the best things for my mental health at the time. I'd suggest you take your advice and take a break. If it's permanent then good for you, and if you decide to come back later, that's ok too. People don't post like you are now when they are happy or stable. Really, take a break, delete the link to the forums and the game. You can find them later if you come back but people aren't going to quit cus you tell them to. We are enjoying the game even with all it's flaws. Give yourself some distance and time from the game.

#71 Re: Main Forum » Has anyone run into a marked griefer in a later life? » 2020-02-11 19:50:17

I've seen two older relatives with black text. An older sister and an uncle. One turned out to still be a griefer and the other ended up just being a troll that later went afk. So yes the system is working. The black text really help to notify me to keep an eye on those people. I've also started keeping notes on who I curse, why and those two words so I can judge how dangerous they are if I see them again.

They never go on to do any work, they just run around asking for follows and doing nothing useful for the town even into adulthood. So I'm always suspicious of kids asking for power.

In reality, she probably was probably on discord voice chat with some dark web rape porn in the background, laughing at us as we wasted half our lives to kill one person.

In our defense, we stabbed her a good few times before they got serious once they exhausted all the pads they could. I'd like to think we wasted as much as their time as they did ours as they spent the last 20 min hiding in the snow.

My point is that in reality, meds save more griefers then victims. Yeah, I might've used a bow if I had tool slots but even that can still fail. I'd rather griefers get some free kills occasionally if it meant guaranteed death for them. They don't even do any real damage, Just coward simulator 2020.

I was alive during this life and spent a good amount of time chasing that griefer.  I think the griefers name was Olaf. If I remember right, he either killed or tried to kill a baby. He was stabbed once, then the mother healed him. He was stabbed twice (I think by me this time) and again his mother healed him. He then ran northeast into the snow to hide. Being the non-ginger white race I think I acted as translator and got the ginger queen to go after him. We had a HUGE posse of people trying to chase him down and he eventually died.

I agree that when in doubt, like the person bleed out. If you heal and arne't sure who is good or bad then there will absolutely be revenge killings. But if the person just dies and it was a one off then it's really not that bad. And if the same person kills multiple times then the town will see and act on it.
