a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building
You are not logged in.
So people seem to hate Eveing and unfortunately newbies tend to have high score and therefore eve frequently
Here are some quick but very effective tips to success:
1. KEEP MOVING
This is probably the most important.
You need a bunch of rope and food and really a backpack and clothes before you settle.
When you are moving (west to new land) you can grab up milkweed and food without depleting the area around you.
1.5 Make a reed skirt
It's little warmth but you may as well (1 rope, 1 reed)
2. Make a Bow and Arrow for Mouflon Hide
This is kind of annoying because you can't carry it easily but getting a hide (and hide for your kids) is a huge advantage
Mouflon Hide is one of the BEST clothes for warmth and warmth means you need to eat less which is critically important in the beginning
3. Make a backpack (while moving)
This is a little tricky but extremely effective.
Gather: Bowdrill, Snare, Hatchet while moving
Find an area with 6 rabbits, 2 burdock, 2 milkweed, 1 flat stone, 1 sapling and flint/stones
Get your burdock and flat stone bait and start baiting the rabbits
While that is happening, gather the other stuff and start a fire
If you do 2 burdock you will also have 1 fur left for a pouch which you can use for your bellows later
Once you have a backpack you can attach a BOW AND ARROW making it easier to hunt mouflon for hide
4. Clothe your children
If you have a backpack and a bow it is very easy to get a hide for your kids while moving
This gives them a massive advantage because they need less food (and you also have to feed them less while nursing)
If you have a needle, you can continuously grab milkweed while moving and add thread with no carry expense
This means you can keep making clothes as well (wolf hat is the best use of this for warmth)
5. Pick your spot
I don't do this until I have mouflon hide, wolf hat and backpack/bow/arrow and a basket with snare/bowdrill/hatchet
Most important is iron at least 2, better 3+
You also need access to clay, pond, soil and trees
The problem is simple:
1. Eve places stones and opens a well
2. Eve dies or gets lost or the site is lost
3. Eve's kid opens another well but the iron remains sunken
The Solution is simple:
Home well should only be locked (and the iron locked to the well) AFTER the well has been dug with a shovel
Suffice to say, if you've smithed as far as a shovel, the base is decided
This has happened to me a few times over the years and its really annoying
I recently saw the banana crash listed in the steam update log
I figured I aught to mention I had a similar experience when stashing valves/pipes in packs and filling up a truck for a large sprinkler.
It was very strange. When I got into the truck, the truck disappeared and then my body began moving at truck speed.
Other players could see this, it was kind of funny.
This would continue until I touched either I think a pen gate or possibly a door.
The camera would then go flying off into no where and I would have to close the client, it also said something like 'wild bug appeared'
The truck itself became permanently bugged and this could be repeated over and over.
It was essentially a bug truck until something was taken out iirc.
I imagine it some kind of buffer overflow error related to the banana thing.
Assuming because valves are two objects and packs contain four.
Since you've been tracking down bugs lately, figured I'd mention it.
I wrote a fully new server for OHOL Called Opfen Life Reborn.
Is there a external site that shows how many players are on etc?
I think you should build some kind of wiki or something showing the improvements/changes you've made, listing the issues etc
I think Jason needs to look at allowing iron to be harvested from multiple mines to at least attempt to allow players to break away from villages to build their own outposts.
So back in the paving days I found a way around this
I was a road builder and we got so far ahead that I had to build a locked outpost so I could eat and make tools
I built a stone structure around a well with walls and four locked doors
Thing is, the iron did open eventually because people kept resettling towns, so eventually I was in a family that had not opened iron yet
The trick was to not put a bucket on the well because then the well kept breaking down every time the family died
IIRC when the well broke down, the once sunken iron vein opened up again and after a while rebuilding the well the iron opened
Once a vein is stripped it is permanently open that was the fix
I used to actually deliberately setup eve spots thousands of tiles west with a shovel and axe to expose more iron along the highway
Just keep rebuilding the well and then strip the vein after it opens
Note: I may be remembering this incorrectly it was a couple years ago at least
As I said, it's so bad that ALL of the families have been locked into old towns for MONTHS at a time every time I logged in.
I literally stopped playing because of this.
If there is a limit to say 20 or 30 cans of kero for a city at least at SOME POINT the MUST move on
It could be when the family dies or there could be a limited amount of water that can be pulled out from oil.
It will stop people from resettling old towns. I don't see how population would be a problem in those cases.
Wells should not be able to just go on forever this is why the towns keep getting resettled.
well just need to collapse and by that I mean just change to 'exhausted well' not even an new image or anything
it is the simplest and most complete solution
I don't even care if a place gets resettled once or even twice
but eventually the well has to go down making it no longer possible to do so
Towns continuously get re settled such that nothing new is built for weeks to honestly months at a time
See here: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 01#p109101
I think a simple solution is that after at most 48 hours a well should collapse to prevent this
Basically just hoping Jason sees this now he's back
The major cataclysmic issue I see with OHOL right now is that players keep retelling in old villages
A year or two ago this became so bad that it actually broke the game spawn and families were like 50k apart
Even though it is not that bad at the moment the resettling and looting of old towns is ruining gameplay
It is basically the equivalent of using cheat codes and there's nothing that can really be done to stop it
I assume the purpose of the game was create new cities, new towns, and continually revisit the entire tech tree with each new family
By looting/resettling the majority of game content is entirely bypassed
I have literally stopped playing the game for months at a time because there have been no new towns and essentially nothing to do
Please fix this some how
At very least there should be a time limit after which wells simply collapse
The new updates seems to have broken the hetuw mod file
If anyone has a fix please post
Gunna go ahead and say fav update ideas right now would be:
1. Fix planes so you can fly back and forth easily, any distance with permanent, ungreifable landing pads
2. Cargo planes that are basically flying trucks
3. Oil tankers would be cool
4. Steam trains that move faster than sports cars along tracks
Yeah he's back curious what future updates might look like so I'm making this thread
they say many hands make light work
if people even just keep building fragments along the highway I'm sure the east migration will stop
one long ass road is obviously preferable
build the wall to solve this problem
So apocalypse is impossible basically but the map badly needs a reset
The solution is to build a wall from north to south to completely block people from going back and forth
The best way to do this is in a zigzag pattern using stone blocks to make ancient bell tower bases
The zigzag is important: south, then east, then south, then east so that the wall is diagonal
This is because it is easier to pave than it is to build walls so a zigzag makes it very difficult to pave around
Unfortunately, this is way too labor intensive and boring for me to do by myself
But if everyone starts doing it all over the place I'm sure this will stop the eastern migration
You still working on this? I might poke around a bit.
So I got sent there likely as an eve spawn bug and built the helipad according to the instructions
Another player over Phex tried to fly to me but just landed back at his home
I swear someone told me it could be done which is hilarious but apparently not?
I would like to get some rubber to a donkey base and flesh it out completely
And also to bring a donkey eve into band space and make donkey babies... for science!
Yes I know it's griefable but there is as easy fix using maps for example
Make it so that you have to map an airport before you can land or must have the map of where you want to land in your pack or whatever
Having planes that actually worked would open so many possibilities for doing cool things
also if there was a 'cargo plane' that was basically a flying truck that would be amazing
Are there detailed step by step instructions on how to connect to this?
I forgot about this
is this server still up?
lalalalaal
I'm kind of surprised that jason replied to this
And hasn't replied to anything since
