I gave it a shot.
Got a kiln running before I starved with grey hair.

I only ever saw two biomes and praery basically had no source of straight branches. (I actually found one straight branch in my entire time on praery).

Is there a zoom mod compatible with the server?

well jason likes to randomly switch between realism and game design. This is design. returning civilisation to one main ressource, once you have oil, oil becomes the new main ressource.

#53 Re: Main Forum » Good morning! » 2019-08-01 19:03:22

My last game was pretty good.
I did spend the around five years hitting every piece of fence with a round stone, which was a bit boring.

I think the biome update works pretty well, people can sort of decide which ressources they want to actively look for.

In fact, some designers say, "Don't ever talk to players and ask them questions.  Just watch them play."

this is also how you get a game with big markers all over the place and basically giant billboards telling you where to go, because a few playtesters looked behind every waterfall to see if there was anything worth exploring.

#55 Re: Main Forum » Your losing player yet you dont seem to care. Why? » 2019-07-29 22:49:55

I think this smaller scope will allow jason to inspect more precisely what mechanics are troublesome.

Before the update, when a wild ressource was too hard to aquire, you could always grab a horse and get it from the wild.
Now player's can't mitigate flaws, so jason can see them better.

at least that's my theory.

I think we're gonna get the plague and cholera.

Think about it, you were born as an infant suffering from the burbonic plague and made it to the tender age of eleven, before succumbing to a horrible disease, that's awesome!

#57 Re: Main Forum » Are you ready for the Steam review score to tank? » 2019-07-29 22:33:50

Despite reading your update, I am still not sure what precisely you are trying to accomplish with the rift update.
For me, it doesn't seem to make sense, I prefer if players start with a small area and can together expand the area that is playable, but I am a sucker for cooperation. I know you thirst for drama and exitement.
Still, doesn't the rift currently defy all the travel technology you have added to the game? Is anyone really going to build cars and planes?

The update will highlight the flaws of the current gameplay, that the fact that we had potentially infinite everything hid.
we can no longer work around a lot of things and if jason is as perfectionist as i think he is, he views this as a positive, and it probably is, at least long term.

However in short term, it completely gimps player experience, because the game was never really desined or playtested around that limited ressources.

With this update, that challenge becomes surviving as long as possible, collectively, with limited resources.

Isn't that completely antithetical to the genetic score update?

we still don't have highways or robots. there is lots of content teased in the trailer that we still don't have.
The tech tree is the core of the game.

I was wondering on how to alter the system jason implemented.
For me, a slow migraton elsewhere or outpost villages or trading stations make sense for a city to have and make for "interactive stories".

That means:
at the corners and halfway across the edges of the rifts are transition points. Players can go to other rifts.
However players can only use the transition points from and to the rift-box they are born in, meaning every child can always go the city where their mother came from.
this enables cities two rifts apart to trade ressources that the other city might not be able to aquire.
Mothers can strategize where they make an outpost and send their children to gather ressources (if the mother gives birth in a different rift than they were born, they open up three or five more boxes for their children to explore.

I know jason doesn't like suggestions, but honestly, I am not sure what precisely he was trying to accomplish with the rifts in the first place, despire reading the news page.

This way, a player is still limited in where they can go, but a family is not limited in where they can go.
Resettling can become a multigenerational task, with families packing up everything they have and trying to make it to greener pastures, while still getting rid of the "there is infinite milkweed, just take a horse and explore"

Transitional points could potentially be blocked, but almost every blockade can be destroyed or needs to be maintained, right?

#63 Re: Main Forum » Fag » 2019-07-26 18:41:21

discuss it with the village.

"Aaron is saying slurrs, anyone mind if i stab the kid?"

#64 Re: Main Forum » Why cant we carry a baby on a horse cart? » 2019-07-14 09:21:22

children can't ride horses.
that means if a woman wants to travel far to make a new camp, she has to wait to be old enough to ride the horse, travel to the destination, abandon all children on the way to there and then get a daughter that wants to stick around.

#65 Re: Main Forum » Place your vegetables, Jason » 2019-07-07 14:00:45

I think jason needs to make edible ingedients edible, add new recipes and counterbalance this by nerfing the way yum works.

#66 Re: News » Update: More Fixes » 2019-07-06 19:31:15

thanks for improving the core game mechanics for us.

I personally are hoping there will be new mechanics in the update in two weeks

they do have a similar hasty writing style though.

#69 Re: Main Forum » um what the heck is the leaderboard » 2019-06-29 18:07:50

is there a delay in the genes screen?
I died a few minutes ago and my son and daughter show up on the genes screen, but I can't find myself. I can find my other lives and some of their children, even an ancestor in the same and his nieces, but that 60 year old woman I just played at won't show up.

#70 Re: Main Forum » A High Yum Score should affect our score » 2019-06-29 15:06:15

a high yum affects your hunger bar, that should be enough to carry you to a long life, which increases your score.

The score is only affected by your life, your children/nephew and nieces, and their children, right? It stops after two generations.

#71 Re: Main Forum » um what the heck is the leaderboard » 2019-06-29 14:51:14

I gotta say, the impact is pretty noticeable, I just died at the age of 60 and i had nine food bars at 58 or 59.

I am around 30th place, so I imagine top scorer might have significantly more, like 12 or 15. wonder if someone can confirm this.

#72 Re: Main Forum » um what the heck is the leaderboard » 2019-06-29 12:10:34

My name does not show up in the online leaderboard, but the score I have and the rank directly corresponds to another name of the leaderboard, it that name a hash or key or whatever of mine or does the ingame system just look at what score I would have if my name would be entered?

Okay, it ,turns out, I am just stupid, the name i used to search for my leaderboard score was my forum activation phrase.
your leaderboard name is ingame when you inspect your fitness score.

#73 Re: Main Forum » Idea: Demo version of the game with 1 life per 3 days » 2019-06-29 10:50:00

I think this would be a nightmare for jason.
What's stopping a person from making two hundred demo accounts and cycling through them to get a full game, in essence?

#74 Re: Main Forum » um what the heck is the leaderboard » 2019-06-29 02:57:40

I think jason started implementing the score system.
the longer your  relatives survive, the better for you.
