That's like saying that we have carnitas when you ask for bacon.

Its more like asking for an abacus when you have a calculator.

Most of the time the towns die faster then you can set up your calculator and if you do manage to properly set it up, not a lot of people know how it works or will use it. But we all understand how an abacus works.

Wanted to make main roads. Failed at it. Got a bit too frustrated about it, but that's mainly because off the shit going on in the real world. We got a curfew now and other restrictions. I'm so damn tired of it. It's giving me too much stress.

Well, the game is supposed to be about starting over from scratch

Not a reason to curse someone because they don't play by your invisible rules.

I would love to see a halloween purge event. One day of madness. No rules, no restrictions. Kill or be killed.

Sure.   Nothing wrong with that.   If you just want to tend sheep for your whole life, go for it.  Shepherd is a valuable job in any village, even if the food meta has shifted away from mutton pies.

But a shepherd without shears is a bit sad, don't you think?  If you don't want to single-handedly save the village, you could even ask someone else to make them for you.  Since you already have a knife, it isn't that hard to make a pair of shears, either.   Your village must have a file somewhere.

If I wanted to be a shepherd I would make a shear and a dropspindle.

Smart people don't get sheep before they have the tools to utilize them.    But sure, if you have a sheep and a knife, but don't have shears yet, making sheep and killing them for food/sheep skin is fine.   With the current breeding system, mouflon babies are much better than non-mouflon babies, so adult sheep are not necessary as long as you have someone working on making more.

Feed a baby, kill an adult, repeat.

It would be even better to go off and get two pieces of iron to make some shears, instead of messing with the village sheep, of course.    The benefits of having lots of thread in an early camp is significant, since it allows mass production of rabbit gear and pads.   But the sheepskins are a good early clothing option, especially if you don't have enough backpacks yet.

Just be very careful.   If you kill all the sheep and some joker comes along and slaughters the mouflon, you are kinda screwed.

You can't always be the village do it all that does it all. Sometimes I just don't want to be the smith next to being the cook, the farmer, the one that brings kindle, hunter,...

Like I said, you can still turn the sheepskin into wool with the shears. Nothing is lost.

Wow, I didn't know that. Was that something new added? I swear you learn something new everyday in this game. As far as a down side, I don't see one, with this being true.

No, it's not new. You can do this for a long time now.

Is there any downside to killing all the sheep (not the mouflon) when you're in an eve camp and there is no shears or dropspindle? You get the sheepskin for clothing, mutton for cooking. When you get shears you can still use it on the sheepskin to turn it into wool. I don't see a reason to let them live when you have all those naked people running around and you need food. The sheep are useless until you get shears and a dropspindle. But I don't see people do this in eve camps. Am I missing a downside to it?

Yep, cisterns count, to help out places that have high-tech hard-to-use wells get reestablished while they work on the well problem.

Good to know, thx.

If you don't do anything to increase your genetic score and still get more points ... it is evident that something is not working and it is just a matter of luck

I share my clothes with them if there are none available. That's it. I don't ask if they are new or if they know yum. I kinda ignore it when they tell me they are new, but I try to help if they ask to teach them.

I have done some scavenging and I got kids in an abandoned town. When I came back to that town in my next life I also got kids. I didn't use the well. It had no family name on it. I'm sure that well isn't claimed by any family. In a male life it also happend at another abandoned town that it became homeland. Also didn't touch the well there. The only commen factor in all those lifes was that I used the cisterns. Maybe it has something to do with that.

I made a property gate. I finished the gate and everyone could use it. I did not give ownership to my fam or made it an ally gate. I was leader at the time.

one of my curses:
FIRE PEACH: runner bb. In another life also a wannabe village killer. She was leader and started to exile random people, but she was unsucsessfull to kill anybody. I was also warned that she stole bb's. In another life again she tried to kill people. Definitely a griever, but a noobish one.

It was me. I destroyed the ugly loop and wanted to make paved road to next fam, but the paver was stuck before ice hole. I was innocent this life. big_smile

No, it wasn't you. It didn't happen at the loop. It was at a black town more to the east of the loop.

#73 Re: Main Forum » What did you do today in OHOL? » 2020-10-10 23:26:29

I had two interesting lifes. First I was black of the Emerald fam. The fam died out. It was me and two other men. They wanted to be killed to end their suffering so I gently euthanized them. I took the engine to give it to another fam, but I changed my mind. I decided to put the engine, kero, rubber-products in the desert next to the town. So that it would go to the next black fam (either they would find it, or I would collect it when I would be born black). A ginger saw me do it and cursed me, so I cursed her. I'm a little offended to get a curse for that. Those resources belong to my fam, I was the last of the Emerald. I have the right to decide what I do with it. Another ginger left a truck, undressed and went of to die I guess. I think she left the truck for me, so I put that in the desert too.

Next life I was a ginger. The ginger town is next to the black town and it was a bit low on clothes. So I decided to get clothes from the dead black town (no point in letting good clothes go to waste). When I came to the desert spot I saw that the recourses were already gone. A black woman took it and reclaimed the black town to my joy. But she was a bit hostile. I mean, really deadset on killing me. Any atempt on showing that I was peacefull didn't work. I left a note explaining that I left them the engine and the recourses as the last Emerald. I felt the need to explain myself. I don't like it when people see me as the bad guy when I have done nothing wrong. I don't know what she told her kids, they where showing mad faces at me. One of her kids got an adult to read the note and then the kid hearted me. That made me feel better. I left and the kid followed me home and she stayed there.

A while later another black woman shows up in town on a horse cart and begins loading in our pies. I took her horse. She cursed me for that, So I cursed her. She explained herself with notes that she wanted to set up a town north and she needed recourses. I didn't want to leave the horse to long to write back. I just read her notes. I wanted to explain to her that we where running a bit low on food and it was not oke for her to take the pies. I wouldn't mind if she took some recourses after asking first, but not the food. I emptied the horsecart in the engine pen and returned the horse to her. I didn't feel right to keep the horse.

These where lifes where I really hate that you can't properly communicate. I would make life so much easier.

Both are jerk moves.  Don't throw your children in harms way.  Also, daring your child to go into a pit with domestic boars, and them doing so and dying, wouldn't be good for *your* gene score.

Don't worry, no virtual bb's where harmed in the making of this joke. You're adorable when you take things to serious. That's what I love about you.

I thought about this, and I don't think I want bacon.  More foods that require a domestic boar to make, doesn't sound all that great.

But it would be a great teaching opportunity. A pen full of boars. You dare your child to go in. Child goes in, child dies. It's the circle of darwin. Tough love. We'll eat bacon afterwarts in memory of the dumb ones lost.

Teaching your child that you're a jerk perhaps.

That is hardly a jerk move. If I wanted to be a jerk I would suggest a large stretched out pen filled with boars and a gate on either side so we could forcefully let the bb's race against eachother to the oter side. The winner gets to live. The loser dies or has to race again against the next bb. We could gamble on who wins. Bacon and games, that is all we need for a succesfull society. It would make the next noobapocalypse so much more entertaining.
