A lot of people will probably not agree with this by saying this but here I go ^^
I don't mind griefers. I do not like them but I don't want them gone either. Why ? Because they add a little bit of spice, some drama to each life. Just like some Roleplayers do. When the curse system and donkeytown was introduced, we had a time with few to no griefers in a town. Each life was without any event, any drama ... each life was the same life. I started to miss the griefers because they gave some action in an somewhat advanced town.
@Multilife, your three amazing drawings that you have shared with us were about the life you lived with a griefer. Your daughters killing two griefers, your adoptive father who gave you a name after he killed a griefer and the time you had to kill at least four people. I'm not saying that it's thanks to them that you made such good drawings but they gave you an interesting life, right ?
I know that some of you would like to just have a quiet life, building, farming and just spend some times chatting with other players, without anyone threatening that peace. I do to. But I also like a little bit of drama in each life, either by a griefer or by someone playing a role.
People are mad that other players are killing off their families. And I can understand that. It's frustrating. Buuuut no one is doing anything against it. And I don't mean killing the griefer, that's a whole other story but by not preparing any pads in case people get hurt.
I noticed that the one thing that a town lacks are pads and needles with thread. Pads are only being made AFTER a killing spree happened, not before. The first thing I do in every town that I get born into, is making pads and placing them next to the fire where babies are being nursed. I've died less in those lifes.
But then there are other problems :
First, people take the needle and thread for their own use and place them in their backpacks, thinking that they will be safer with them. They are not. We don't have the time looking for the ones who have the needle and thread nor the time looking for a new needle when someone is hurt. And don't blame that on the other players or the new players because everyone is guilty doing this. We tell everyone not to take the pads out of the bowl but no one is telling the others not to touch the one needle and thread next to it. If you need to make clothes out of the fur, then find another needle.
Second, when there are pads, some people will not use them. I see so many times where players just stand around one hurt player, talking on who did it and what happened when the pads are just three tiles away. Or they do not know how to use or make them. Same goes for arrow wounds. In big towns, when someone is asking to teach them, the first thing is showing them how to farm. Yes I know, it's important as well but how about showing them how to treat wounds first ? Especially arrow wounds.
TL;DR : Families die out because no one is taking the time on making pads before the killing spree.
So yea, if the griefers are getting more intelligent on killing towns, then we have to become more smarter as well.
Sounds very interesting and would give a little more variety to the game.
I would also like to see snow rabbits or foxes added that one could hunt down and make into a white-gray-ish clothing.
Those who settle in the snow biome, could dig up small amount of soil under the snow ?
No thank you.
The reason why I love OHOL so much, is that you get reborn into a new family with a new name, new layout and new people. Another life, another story.
Also not being able to cross the border to another biome seems ... bizarre. Why wouldn't I, a female or an Eve be able to get to the next biome, where the food or recourse is situated, that I really need. As an Eve that would suck ! Imagine you are spawn into the badlands (where one can find iron and no food) and you know you can already throw yourself at a bear.
If you really want us to trade with other families, how about adding some sort of "islands" into the game. You could add huge rivers or cliffs that would act as barriers, separating the lands and the families living in those areas. Now why would they want to trade ? Add in each area unique resources that each family would want to have to be able to get higher to tech tree. That could be special clay to make bricks to be able to build a better oven or better quality iron to make better stuff, idk. The families would need to work together to build a sort of zip-line on each side to trade the goods.
We have a charcoal as a pencil. Maybe use that to be able to write on the signs ?
I would really want to have some sort of billboard where you can hang notes with nails. People could click on them and read them. If it's not needed anymore, you could use a knife or some sort of nail puller to get the note from the billboard.
Does it has to be a 50 year old person ? Can't it be those who hit 40 or 45 ?
When I only have ten minutes to live, I would want to check on my kids, see if there are jobs that needs to be assigned to people and just chit chat rather than approve every single tile of fence that someone wants to build.
Also needing two or more elder to approve one single building is a bit much.
But so far the idea seems interesting.
Would it be possible to build a fence on a wooden floor ? Let's say you want to made some sort of entrance hall in your house with fences. Currently you can't put fences on wooden flooring.
You are the cat in the "While the cats away the mice will play" saying ^^
But couldn't anyone come with a lock and lock me in or out of my own house right now in the game ?
I would love to lock my house so nobody can steal my pads or pies I just baked but if some player comes around and puts a lock on my door and runs away with the key, what then ? How could my kids enter their home and get the cooked pies ?
Does it has to be a magic hat ? Can't it be a special tool, like a slightly bigger hammer & usable by everyone, to be able to built houses ? Or like a tool that marks a certain area where a house can be build ?
Maybe only the town eldest can use it at 40 or 50 and can plan where one can built their house ?
I like Dodge idea that you can't read the conversation others when they are in their house. Would be a shame not be able to see the insight of the house since it would be interesting to see the different designs of every player.
Oh god ... I thought like one or two murders, yeah that happens to me as well, but THIS ?! Please stay in town.
The burial thing sound very interesting. If you would really want to be reborn to that family, make sure to get buried by them. But what about those people who will bury all those bones outside of town ?
Someone also had the idea of marriage being a way to marry into a new family. Family A's last female died and are asking for a girl from Family B to marry one of their sons. There could be a priest asking "Jane B will you marry John A & John A will you marry Jane B" and if both say "I do" Jane B will now belong to the Family A. That way, more families could live next to each other and could support each other if their linage is about to die out.
I would also like to see a possibility for people to start a new family of their own. Either through marriage (they could change their family name and be the Eve and Adam of that new family) or by moving out of their town to start an outpost or a neighbor town. Lot of times outpost die out because most of the people are born to the bigger towns.
Just some ideas.
o How do you usually react to being murdered?
Recently, the first thing I do when I am born, is to check where the pads are or make some. That helped me numerous times when I got stabbed and I haven't died that way for a long time now. But if I get killed and no one can heal me, I tell everyone who it was, wish them good luck and enjoying the next life.
o What's the point of protecting if towns die on there own?
Why not ? Why bother making rooms, plant trees, making an Arena or a church when one day that town will be forgotten and disappear ? Because it's fun. We all know that the point of this game is that nothing will last forever. So why not protect a town to enjoy it a little bit longer ?
o Do you ever get tired of farming?
Hell yea ! Especially when people come and ruin it or take stuff and don't want to help you to fix it. But I like to combine farming with something else, like feeding the sheep or making compost or even making burritos. Trying out new designs. If I'm completely bored of it, I'll do something else.
o Have you ever been tempted by the darkside even if just for a moment?
Many times. Every time when I get so frustrated at a town's IQ. But also when I'm in big towns and there is everything there and I see a lot of idle townspeople. That's when I have an idea in my head, to start a little bit of drama. To give them something exciting in their boring big city. I wouldn't hide any pads, needles and weapons and wouldn't kill any fertile female.
But I've never done it and don't think I will ever do it. Even if the idea is there.
o What's your opinion on griefers who are helpful in some lives?
Helpful ? How is griefing helpful ? ^^
If you are griefing in a smaller town who are still trying to survive, shame on you. If you are griefing in a bigger town however and are trying to add a little bit of drama in the town, not trying to kill everyone or hiding the most important things then yea go ahead. I'd gladly try to find you, kill you and congratulate you on your mission.
I had once a guy who kept stealing kids and killing old people. Not many of the kids tried to jump out of his arms, so he just did the town a favor if that kid is not smart enough to save itself. It took me a while but eventually I killed him. He said something like "You got me, they made me do it", still playing his role. I answered that he was very good but that his mission had to come to an end and the town had to recover. We had a nice chat.
Later on people were more excited to live in a town that just had defeated a griefer. They told their kids and Grand-kids the story telling them to curse him later on.
So yea if you are that kind of griefer, I don't mind ^^ Sometimes a little bit of drama is needed. But not to the point killing of a whole town.
o Do you consider suiciding to be a form of griefing as it can kill towns?
I consider it annoying and rude when people die the moment they are born. If they die later on, after they have had a look at the town, that's okay. At least say your good byes and strip naked before you run into the wild.
Mushroom wrote:Today I got murdered for kidnapping kids in a town that had it's laws written on paper. No. VI clearly said pedophilia was allowed in that place! I want to bring a lawsuit: me vs town folk.
But for real this time, I think that written laws are cool roleplay and I would be glad to see people actually obey them. It could give more spirit and variety to the villages. Don't think it'd be possible to make everyone roleplay like this though. Any ideas?
Laws do work. Especially court case.
Case in point - A few weeks ago, when I was around 25 a baby started claiming that a grownup man had killed her in another life. We had multiple families in the same town so I figured it was possible. As she grew she became more riled up to kill said man. We will call the man Man Y and the girl Girl X.
I decided to hold a trial so I asked Man Y to testify before court with Girl X. He was hesitant but agreed. Girl X was confident and swiftly came to court. When people saw Man Y in the main room they started drawing their knives but I said we were having a trial so they agreed not to kill him.
The trial began. Girl X said she had been killed by Man Y as "Steve" in another life (not the name she said). Then another man spoke up and said that Man Y had been with him for the past half hour, so he could not have killed Girl X.
I then went on Lineage and looked up Steve. I found that Steve had been killed by a boar, not by Man Y. When I returned I declared Man Y innocent, and called Girl X to testify for lying.
Girl X claimed she was innocent, that the lineage was a glitch. She was proclaimed guilty and killed, but not before she took me down with her. Overall it was a successful trial. We also held a similar trial a few months ago and both were productive.
That sounds fun ! I wish there would be more trials done when people are in an argument. Instead killing each other directly, just have a trail and see what the court things of it.
Would it be possible to have different wooden floor texture for the different wood you chop ? If you would chop a maple tree, you would get yellow flooring, light brown flooring for wood chopped from the Jungle and brown flooring for wood chopped from the Swamp.
I have had many traditions in this game. Hunting with my son as many bears as possible, offering anything I can find to the fertility god to grand our family line many babies and passing down the family red wool hat to my firstborn daughter. But my favorite tradition is by far planting a tree to celebrate my child's birth.
When there is almost everything in a town and people are starting to either expand or build stuff, I like to be either a cleaning lady or the local gardener. When playing as the gardener, I prepare some soil rows, plant some skewers and make some paper for later on. Once my child is born, I'll tell her/him that it is tradition that we plant every time a tree when we have a kid, to celebrate its birth to the town. They can choose what kind of tree they want to have and I will plant and water it for them.
That tree will be her/his very own tree and she/he may rest her/his bones under it, to be buried later on by her/his children when she/he wishes. Once they die under this tree, their soul will stay in the town and protect it. I sometimes even plant one for my mother and myself and bury her under her tree with a marked grave and a little note.
I call it The Garden and always hope that one day, there will be many trees with marked graves under it, with a little note to remember a loved one. Just like the huge Tree Garden someone planted in a big city, with a wooden/stone patch and gates surrounding it.
I know that this tradition will never last longer than one generation but I like to imagine that it will make the person playing as my child feel special or happy and part of something that not everyone has.
Anyone else has a little tradition that they like to do while playing ?
I've never told this story, I don't think that it's a very impressive story but it was one of my favorite life ^^
I was once born as a male to nice town and got a bit bored. I didn't want to make pies or compost or tend the farms since I've done that a million times the past hours (sometimes everything at once). So I decided to stir a little bit of drama in this town and start killing.
Mind you, I've never killed unless it was a Griefer. I never felt the urge to finish a line by killing every female, even though I got tempted so many times (mostly in towns where the IQ level was bellow 0).
So this life, I decided to be the bad guy, to kill older men and women and some boys. I wanted to Roleplay as an evil man who became crazy after the death of his beloved sheep and started to kill in secret, outside town. I wanted them to fear the outside world.
But, as I mentioned before, I've never killed more than two people in one life. I didn't know how to kill without being caught. So I pretended to be a Wolf and Bear Hunter and tried to lure some boys to follow me into the wild where I could kill them in peace (this was before the temperature update and when mosquitoes were still doctors).
I found a boy who just grew hair and told him if he wanted to become a hunter just like me, killing all those bad wolves and bears. Excited, he followed me with a bowl of berries. Yes ! My first victim !
So I thought. I was about to kill this innocent little guy when his mother showed up with another infant in her arms. She didn't trust me and followed us. There I was with three witnesses. I continued to play my role as a hunter and explained the boy what we were going to do. He started to call me dad and got very excited. He never killed a wild animal before. The little boy in the woman's arms started to call me dad as well and said that he wanted to join us.
I felt bad. I didn't wanted to kill them, now that they were all hyped up and were looking forward to this adventure. Then the woman died. She was naked, had an infant in her arms and didn't have food near her.
So there I was, alone with one infant and one little boy. I could have killed the boy and let the infant starve, since we were quite far from town. But I didn't want to kill anymore.
I brought the baby back home, made sure that my son had filled his bowl with berries, took a cart with two baskets of pies, bow and arrows and lived my life teaching my son how to hunt bears.
I showed him how to kill them by standing on an object, we killed all the wolves in the area and made lots of hats and killed at least 10 bears. In the end, my son got bit by a wolf and since we didn't have pads near us, I told him to get bit by a mosquito swarm. But I stepped in one which caused my son's and my death.
It was a good life !
Stuff I want to see worked on :
Tamed Horses that don't bail on you while you gather resources to put in the attached cart.
Being able to put a fence on flooring.
More little tweaks on temperature. I feel like you go from very cold to very hot the second you go on a desert tile and it takes at least 4 seconds to go back to very cold. Wishing for a much smoother transition. Flooring should add warmth as well, doesn't matter if it's in a room or not.
Kid bones should decay faster.
New stuff I'd like to see :
Dads & Adam
More buildings options. Like different fences or walls with windows ?
More usage for those eggs (pancakes, crepes, etc.)
More clothing, advanced farming and more ways to stock stuff (wheat, meat, etc.)
Medicine
Love it ! ♥
The Drama Queen seems like the typical mother who gives her kids all her clothes, knifes and holds them as long as possible.
When you don't move the corpse, it will contaminate the area around it, making you sick or polluting the water and farms near it.
Maybe that will motivate the people to not die in the middle or the town or finally move the corpses out of the room/town.
The Milklady
There is the Productive Early Camp Milklady, the Regular Milklady and the Daycare Milklady.
- Productive Early Camp Milklady : Lines the kids by the fire, near the berry bush, so she can easily feed them one after the other while tending the berry farm.
- Regular Milklady : Stands by the fire with the kids, not moving at all except when she has to go eat. Feeds the kids every 3 seconds.
- Daycare Milklady : Lives in a room with a bunch of babies to take care of. Makes sure the door is always closed. Chats with the Sponges or the kids. Helps out the chefs when the daycare is near/in the kitchen.
The Sponges
Mostly females but sometimes males as well. Stands near the fire and keeps talking to the Milklady, sometimes feeding the kids seconds after the Milklady fed them. Eats pie as a kid but as an adult forgets that they exists even when there is a basket right next to them. 7
Never moves a finger to help out at the farm/kitchen/smith/etc. or puts wood on a slow fire.
The Accuser
As a child, runs to any adult and screams "What's her/his name is a griefer". Not saying how this person is griefing this town, just keeps screaming they are a griefer. Sometimes starts cursing players without any reasons and tries to convince others to do the same.
The "Sheep"
Believes what the Accuser is yelling and kills or curses the person without hesitation, without prove, no questions asked.
Jason's original PC game is available to the public, allowing any unofficial adaptations without his approval or involvement and thus running on separate servers.
Maybe like this ? I would also like to add that any changes or updates on the adaptation of the game might not be Jason's idea or design but I don't know how long a twitter post can be.
I agree with Whatever that every modification should inform the user that this is not the original software and provide a link to it.
Well about tea !
My idea was once you get snowballed too many times, you will turn blue and will have to sit next to the fire or else you will die to Hypothermia. People can give you hot TEA or turkey broth to get you back to health.
Speed Family died out because of the Apocalypse as well. It was such a nice town ... but then we heard the music and everything went white. In the end, only me and another female survived it. But no daughter of her managed to survive.
How about you turn blue when you get hit by too many snowballs and you have to sit by the fire to get your temperature back up but if you don't, you'll die to hypothermia after some time ?
If Jason adds some medicine one day, others can give you a root to nurse you back to health faster. Heck you could even eat hot turkey broth to get well ^^
No they don't necessarily need to get lineage banned from all the towns to be born to an Eve. It's pretty random and I hardly believe that a new player knows about the /die or has the zoom-out mod.
I understand that it is frustrating to have new players as your kids while you try to start a base. But aren't you a little bit impatient as well ? Yes a new player should do the tutorial first and maybe be born to a bigger town to learn some basics but can't you show it to them too ?
Ask if your kid is new and put them next to the kiln to show them how to make a fire, make clay bowls and plates and how to make a farm. Ask them to gather some branches, give them a bowl and tell them to fill it with berries. If they are smart enough, then they will come back with materials and be a big help for you.
If you really don't want anything to do with new players, then use Tarr's Guide on how to detect a new player and let them starve.
My Sister started to play this game a month ago and she loves it. I've played with her a couple of times, showed her farming and some basic stuff. Then she started to play alone and after a while was born as an Eve. Now she was not experienced enough to know how to Eve on her own but she somehow managed.
When I checked on her, she was still alive, tending a small berry farm in a decent spot with some babies around her while her sons ran around and did stuff. She was happy. "I'm tending our little berries", she said when I sat next to her. "My sons are so intelligent!", she said with pride. She showed some kids how to farm and died of old age.
What I want to say by this little story is that even inexperienced player can do Eve runs. Yes they likely not survive but does that really matter since you can just start a new life within seconds. I learned more on my first Eve Run than in a big town where the basic stuff (Hatchet, Fire Bow Drill, Fire, etc.) was already there.
You were new once too and others had to live with your mistakes as well
Yea the town is still doing fine, was in generation 50 couple minutes ago. Spend my life making compost next to the sheep pen, was pretty relaxing ^^
During that time, the highest female number we had was 12 fertile females and 5 little girls running around. It was still high when I died so they are still going strong.
