Maybe instead of giving new players a straight up visible bonus, you get one time where if you reach 0 you get all your lives back (This will only happen the very first time you run out of lives) to give new players a chance while avoiding the psychological problems with the number only going down.

#727 Re: Main Forum » Can we get more practicable use of kerosene now » 2019-06-21 13:01:49

It would be nice to not have to use hot coals for pretty much all cooking outside of pies.

It's probably not gonna happen anytime soon though, if at all.

I doubt that CCM is driving a significant amount of players from the main game. I've joined CCM more than five times, and there were only more than one person on once (and that was about the time where the thread was just started and it was the hot new thing). If it's driving so many people to it, why is basically noone actually playing it?

See the 0 that's on that server for more than half the day. I doubt people would be buying the game just to play on an empty mod server.

#729 Re: Main Forum » Problem: newcomen engine feels slow and tedious on high-tech towns » 2019-06-21 08:51:48

Isn’t that what the kerosene Newcomen engine is for though? Having used that in the past it’s not as annoying to operate. Just fill in the last bucket in the pump, add kerosene and then fire it up. A lot less tedious than the charcoal pump.

If you already have oil up and running, why not make it into a kerosene running pump for its last life? Once you have oil it’s fairly cheap to make (1 steel + 1 rope is not expensive for the benefit you get). I just feel like people end up forgetting that it exists.

I don’t know if I’m misrepresenting your issue, but if you involve switching Newcomen core with Diesel engine then presume the town already got oil.

The only time I've ever been married in game. Started with me being given undyed clothes as a kid (I'm the blonde balding guy). I spent a bit of my life dying it black and ended marrying a woman dressed in white.

Apparently, very few people named their kid Cloak in real life!

The reason for this filtering is that it allows a HUGE range of real names, while also blocking "dickhead" and "dikhed" and all the rest automatically.

A whitelist, instead of a blacklist.

Do people name their kids babyboy, baby and babygirl. Must be an awkward adulthood.

#732 Re: Main Forum » only identical twins » 2019-06-20 06:46:59

It’s probably a bug, but I had in one life seemingly gotten assigned a twin sister (I wasn’t twinning with), when I was born a boy. Here’s lineage link for proof:

That seems like fraternal twins to me.

#733 Re: Main Forum » How many old players still play? » 2019-06-20 06:41:40

I’ve been playing since November. I still play, but it’s usually just 1-2 hours a day.

#734 Re: Main Forum » Worried about "wasting" lives anyone else? » 2019-06-18 14:40:23

I haven’t really changed how I play. Even before the update I strived to live till 60 pretty much every life, so I’ve mostly just not started a life unless I knew I had at least an hour to spare.

On top of that I don’t play the game that much atm. My playtime right now probably averages out to about 1-2 lives a day. I’ve even used /die a couple of times after the change, despite not usually using it that often.

Aren’t war swords ability to only kill outsiders really gamey too. I for one would like if there was a way to warned about random outsiders coming to kill you.

#736 Re: Main Forum » I get really frustrated when... » 2019-06-14 17:39:31

Oh yeah that stuff can get really annoying. I just had a life where the town had oil somewhere (never found out but there was a can of oil there), but they had an exhausted well so I started preparation for a Diesel engine. I ended up abandoning that project halfway through though because an arrogant noob went and disrupted all the work on the Diesel engine to make a loom. He did so very badly wasting precious water we couldn’t afford for one piece in the multi tool a time, and sometimes nothing because he had no clue what he was doing. Even though the people who were making a Diesel engine (including me) were at the smith this noob butted in and thought his “learning experience” was worth ruining multiple people’s experience. Constantly switching the hammer for the lathe because his loom was VERY important(he didn’t even need the lathe at that point so it ended up as a completely wasted run). I ended up just doing something else in that village because I didn’t want to start unnecessary drama by killing him and he was too obnoxious to work around. Maybe when he’s gone the Guba family will actually get an engine.

Also protip if you’re a new player. Maybe don’t sabotage someone else’s project for your “learning experience”, but if no one is using the smith then feel free or at the very least ask.

Rant over.

Is there a Onetech type thing for this, since there are so many new recipes?

Tarr,

I'd advise that you click on the button where you can just go be Eve, since griefing is less likely to happen in an Eve camp.  But, such doesn't exist, because keeping a player like you happy doesn't matter (to the game designer).

I'm pretty sure Tarr dislikes playing in Eve village because of how samey it can get (I could be wrong).

Why are you presuming Tarr's playing preference to push your own agenda?

Can you confirm if Twisted's killing videos are just clickbait or has he actually griefed in some videos? Some of his videos have thumbnails and titles that sound like he went and killed everyone and I haven't watched those as I don't want to support those kinds of videos and make him think I'd like to see more of killing things.

Hm... I don't watch all his videos, so I'm not sure. There was one time before I bought the game where his mother told him to kill a different family, so he tried to start a war. He did apologize and say it wasn't something he wanted to do on a regular basis though, IIRC.

My impression is that he's good at getting rid of griefers (better than me, certainly), but that overall he plays peacefully.

I suppose the last suspicious title was "They were so nice to me, but I brought death to their city", and I yeah, it's one of the videos I've skipped. I'll go watch it now smile

I saw that video. He wanted to try out the war sword so he used it on a family he found. He was pretty hesitant about it, but ended using it on this particular family mainly because it was a family that was about to die out anyway (only consisted of two men and an old woman). It was to me fairly obvious that he felt bad about it after he did the act.

I don’t really watch many of his videos (they are pretty long and come out fairly frequently so I don’t have the time), but to me these kinds of videos seem pretty uncommon.

As for the baskets, you can use a ball of thread instead of precious milkweed. big_smile

This, I believe is the crux of the argument. I can see making baskets with straw or reed and thread.

But the Wheat + needle and ball of Thread means you can use renewable resources in your own village to make your baskets with.  Everyone has needles and ball of thread by a certain time as it is much easier than maintaining the milkweed (though when you just need a THREAD and not a needle and thread it is a pain to find in post milkweed civilizations)

Unless baskets are changed to be made from the entire sheaf instead of just straw, there’d be an overlap with the straw hat.

Ok, so I might just not have seen it, but how does banning work atm? Is it still an area ban or has it changed to lineage ban? Because I was able to start in a family I just died of old age in yesterday. These are links to the two lives I lived right after the other. (Unfortunately my second life was cut short by someone who apparently just wanted to kill me for the lolz):

I was on there the first time today. Didn't do that much since I was getting used to hetuw mod (since awbz mod doesn't seem to be compatible), and I want to note on bug I noticed. I planted a bunch of milkweed (the plant was called milkweed sprout as well when it was growing) and to my dismay it all transformed into nettles.

The main issue with this is that there is a bug where you can't combine nettle stalks into thread.

The main reason was because of curse-raids both in the discord and on twitch streams. People could hop onto discord and say "hey guys this guy griefed really bad pls curse him" and they'd gather curses, from players who literally had never even seen or played with that character..

Also shortly before the idea was proposed and implemented, DaTruf managed to send Twisted to Donkey Town after watching one of his streams and getting other people to curse him.

ig it also tied in with the war swords though. Jason wants wars and slaughtering, hard to do that when you risk going to DT after killing off a family :^)

I dislike Da False as much as the next person, but I’m pretty sure it was Toxic who did that.

It's much much better now though. There will always be griefing in the game. And that isn't a big deal. But there is such a thing as too much. I get you are frustrated about not being able to Eve. So, we should think about ways to address THAT not insult people because they rightly pointed out that the combination of close Eve spawns and /die caused too much griefing.

But really you are missing one of the other major impacts of the change: families last longer because they are not competing with 1000 (that's the real number) eves a day. I know everyone wants the ego boost of getting to name a line. But you can't do that in every single game. It's just selfish. Being eve is special and you can still end up being eve now. I was Eve just two days ago. And I made the most of it. It should be that you need to annoy other players by using /die to get those opertunities, but they SHOULD be rare.

Also the dying baby thing is very very annoying extremely i have like maybe 50 babies and only 2 stayed heh

Pretty ironic that you are complaining about that, since you were a big part of that problem when /dying to get Eve was still a thing, judging from what you have written.

Now that the SIDs has increased in the newest update, due to the skip function, could the SIDS finally be excluded from the family tree? They are taking up more space than ever on the family tree. You sometimes have to scroll quite to get to the kids that actually with their mother.

Here are some examples I found on the front page to illustrate the problem. (These are not my lives):
