How do you know that? I can't find anything about that except seeing people using it.

And how about cursing dead people?

I often see people saying "curse you" without giving the name. Does it curse nearest person? Does it work at all?

And other question is how cursing works? There were some ideas how to change cursing system in this topic miskas' brilliant replacement for Donkeytown but have any changes in cursing been made?

Edit:
And another question, can I curse dead people? Sometimes a grieffer dies before I cursed him/her.

2 players online... I would check it if more people played it. This forum isn't the best way to advertise your server since most of people here have bought original ohol

well rift style is a bit more different, you cant get milkweed outside so you gotta plant it, but you can use the hardened rows left behind near pond

Trust me, you can. I've been doing it multiple times in rift. There are plenty untouched greenlads, just cross the badlands and your chances that you will step on untouched greenlads are higher than opposite. Just get a horse, if you don't have a horse, make it, horses are important anyway. Geting tons of ropes is easy with a horse.

No you don't, unless you are a noob. Klin doesn't need to be close to anything. Place it in place where you have the most space. Smithing requires a lot space, plan ahead.

pein wrote:

instead of fixing that idiot fence, you can plant around your city a line of trees, good for firewood and limits movement, looks better

It's not safe since you can easily cut them. Also planting so many around the town would cost tons of water and soil, trees need to be watered twice. But yeah, town would look cool.

I didn't know milk is so efficient food, seems like people should get it right aways after making buckets and drink only milk tongue I will be focusing on milk much more often from now.

Yes, there are no predictive algorythms, yet you are wrong about where next baby will go. High yum chain and good temperature give bigger chance to birth but it's stil RNG. Also I'm not sure if we still have lineage/area bans in rift, surely not when eve window is close.

This is also interesting... because I always assumed it was new Eve families and lineage/area bans causing families to die out.  But families are still dying out just fine even WITHOUT those factors.  It's kinda crazy, really.

How many people play on your server usually?

#783 Re: Main Forum » Good beginning + some suggestion » 2019-08-28 04:41:49

Harvesting berries into bowls right away is a great idea. I've been doing this on my private server at the beginning when I was learning to play. Yet I don't see people doing it in global server. People should focus on getting more bowls and plates, they are often lacking in towns even tho they are easy and fast to make.

A line of 12 bushes (2x6) and 12 bowls next to them sounds like a perfect plan to me. Near some carrots to harvest from time to time and near sheep pen and a town would be much more efficient in terms of time.

Making stew is faster at the beginning than farming berries that need 12 minutes to grow. To me perfect order would be like this: planting some carrots at first to have some easy food in case wild food is not easy accessible and then planting stew stuff, then some berries but not 12 right away... 6 is enough at the very beginning, then wheat to cook pies and get more baskets, adobe oven and more kilns.

Also a cistern next to each farm isn't a bad idea, it's easy to make cisterns once you have carts. People tend to make berry farm around the well but instead it's better to plan, arrange and use space in smart way. Get rid if trees and stuff that block space for sheep pen near berry and carrot farms instead of making sheep pen in easy space but far away.

People should also more often take care of cleaning town, all tools in one place, bowls with seeds in one place, get rid of useless stuff like worms etc.

Also farming milkweed isn't good idea in towns without engine pump. Get a horse and go for a ride to get milkweed. It will take 5 minutes and you will be back with 4 lassos and backpack full of ropes (lassos can be turned back to ropes with flint)

Planting in town rubber tree right away after making shears is also great idea. It grows 2 hours so it should be done early. It will help making engine greatly.

This post turned out to be a little guide lol

Females without girl kids below 40yo could be favored in giving birth. I mean some experiments wouldn't harm the game

pein wrote:

you join the game and you need to wait until the clock hits the next minute
this would be 59 second waiting time
the benefit of this would be that the server could calculate where the babies should go

Server could calculate constantly, it can know where next baby will go even before someone joins the server if programmed like this. This one minute thing is useless and bad idea.

Tho calculating where next baby should spawn isn't best idea, yet Jason should do some experiments with unfair baby distribution since we are lacking players. Something like, the more kids alive you have(especially girls), the less chance that you will give birth to another kid (That would benefit small towns)

RNG shouldn't kill families, especially ones that take care of every kid.

#786 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Halve "hungry work" penalty and/or make it account for yum » 2019-08-27 20:11:37

Since it's worth to cut a tree to make a cart or a bucket, it's not worth it to make a floor. One wooden log should be able to make 3 or 4 floors IMO.

The only way to prevent this is to add anti-competitive compensation in terms of baby distribution.  I.e, the smaller family gets more babies than it should otherwise get.  And that just feels weird

Maybe chance to born should decrease every next kid a mother has, and increase the chance again once the kid dies. It feels natural to me that people irl want to have kids, but not too many.

There is also another factor. People spam /die to respawn in better towns.

People should learn that starting with farming berries isn't the best idea, yet everyone (almost) do that. Domestic berries cost tons of water and soil.
For comparsion:
- one domestic berry bush = 1 bowl of soil + 1 bowl of water = 7 berries = 35 food
- carrot = 1 bowl of soil + one bowl of water = 4 carrots (+ one seed) = 28 food
- bread = 2 bowls of soil + one bowl of water = 64 food (water is worth more than soil)
- three sister stew in total = 2.25 bowls of soil + 2.25 bowls of water = 224 food (99.5 food per one water)

I just want to say that it annoys me a little that people eat domestic berries and carrots, these two things should be used only to make compost (except for little kids and very old people, they can eat berries since they have little food bar)

And btw I really like current rift. This game wasn't that good ever before IMO. I like that apocalypses happen that often. If people get more pro it may change and get even better. It would be fun when let's say 5 families were very advanced and tried to conquer each other to win the game.
It would be nice to see in main page onehouronelife.com which families survived each game (from apocalypse to apocalypse)
Tho spawning in different family every time will ruin the fun and create opportunity to grief families that you don't want to win.

There is no such thing like trading in this game.

I agree, diesel mines definatelly should be permanent, especially in rift

I agree. Eves should spawn as far as possible from each other.
Seems like we should build fences right from the beginning but giving gate permission to everyone is tedious. Giving access to all family members with one command would be useful.

It ended way too fast... It should last at least 2 days. And it was pain to survive with that large families, people popping up babies like crazy. Many people don't want to play as eve so they die, that's why it ended so fast.

#793 Re: Main Forum » miskas' brilliant replacement for Donkeytown » 2019-08-22 21:02:36

I like the concept from first post except simetrical part and curse scores that should stay IMO

jasonrohrer wrote:

--Unlimited curse tokens

--Cursing someone just says, "You will never be born as a baby to me ever again, and I will never be your baby ever again."

The idea from first version of cursing where people got edgy black text also wasn't bad, but instead of edgy text they should get an ugly face emotion instead, something that nobody would want to have.

I would do it like this:
- People with high curse score (past 30 days) would get a different permanent (until their curse score gets low enough) face emotion, so people can recoginze them easier. Disable other emotes for them such as /happy etc.
- Cursing someone makes that you can't give birth to that person (for 90 days) - this has two positive effects, first is that you won't give birth to the grieffer, and second is that grieffer may be scared to cursing people around, because maybe sometimes he would want to play a normal game and wouldn't be able to give birth to normal people, since he cursed many good people.
- People with high curse score give less cursing points to other people, the higher your curse score is, the less cursing points you give. Let's say a person with no curses past 30 days curses someone with 1.0 curse score. A person with curse score of 5 could curse someone adding him/her only 0.2 curse score.

In this case it's important that curse score shouldn't be added right away but let's say after 10 minutes, that would prevent some scenarios where a griefer with curse score of 0 starts cursing everyone around adding them 1.0 curse score. In that 10 minutes he would get some curses for that grieffing and that would lower his cursing power, so people that he cursed could get much less than 1.0 curse score.

#794 Re: Main Forum » Jason, don't give up. » 2019-08-22 06:00:01

yeah the game is great, I wish more people played it.

Some ads of ohol would bring people.

#795 Re: Main Forum » miskas' brilliant replacement for Donkeytown » 2019-08-22 05:03:30

Some kind of rating could be also useful. That would motivate players to actually work and help family instead of grief.
It would be cool if there was a button in game that would open a window with all family members and their score. (Or instead of a button just press TAB to show scores like in counter strike or smth)

#796 Re: Main Forum » miskas' brilliant replacement for Donkeytown » 2019-08-22 02:50:27

Instead I would rather want to see players rating or something like how many curses a player got last 30 days. New born babies with let's say 4+ curses last 30 days would born with some kind of mark. People would see that mark and would decide either to feed that baby or let it die. That would be good punishment

#797 Re: Main Forum » An idea - respawn » 2019-08-16 05:05:15

Well, being born by nearest(to place where you died) fertile girl from your family would work perfect.

Sometimes I want to respawn in the same town, the same family, but I can't. So I came with an idea that looks like this - every time when you die of old age, you get a respawn point. If you collect 5 (maybe 10? idk) respawn points, you get an ability to respawn in the same family. You can use it or not after you die, if you don't use it, you won't lose your respawn points, but you won't get any more of them even if you die of old age.

What do you think about this? Personally I would love it.
