This is why we can't have nice things.

But wow yeah, that sounds pretty damn hectic. It could've been awesome but I guess too much is too much with such population booms supported by a bunch of Eves.

I used my life as "River Moist" as a starting point so I could check the encrypted email for that life and then I checked the email for "Jonathan Lucky" and it came back as a positive.

Yes, I saw you say that you were off to "get something back" but I didn't see what was going on at that time. If only we had backpacks, we had JUST baked the pile of pies when you took off in a hurry! After you had been gone for a while, I asked some villager if they had seen you (they had not); I wasn't interested in your apron or knife, I just wanted to know if you were somewhere there.

And yep, thank you for the experience, may the artwork speak for my gratitude. big_smile

Don't see Goddess nearly as often, but that's a dumb name, IMO.

I wish there was a randomize option for names so that we could expand our horizons.  Instead, we use the same names over and over again.

Well, as it is truly useful way to summarize the situation to a baby, saving time from explaining, I'd advise to see it from that angle and maybe find a way to appreciate it; it saves time and resources and the baby knows the deal instantly, given they have played a bit.
And yeah, I really dislike Goddess. Pff. big_smile I'll take Hope any day. Although anything new with similar purpose is welcomed!
I like to call a "last girl alive" lives "Hope-runs". It is a "type of life" to me, a playthrough with a certain angle. smile

Why? I think it is really useful to use for the only girl. When I get named Hope, I instantly know what the situation is 99% of the time.
Would you prefer Goddess? That's used like Hope too.

#807 Re: Main Forum » Mini guide: how to kill people » 2018-08-06 20:21:22

Didn't read it all, but most of the killing part. Weapons, to me, are the last thing I want to operate, I find the "pvp" of the game the least interesting part. Of course I want to save towns from bad guys but I'm not gonna be first in line to get weapons for sure. At this point, I'd rather be killed and move onto a better life.

Pad and needle sabotage seems really sad. I wish medics could have easier time deciding who to heal and have more background knowledge but this "web of lies" thing just... makes me not want to be medic in any life. I wish I could see and hear everything so I know who to side with but honestly... I think I'd rather let everyone in the drama die and myself too if we are gonna go that deep into manure.

I feel like some veterans are playing so much that they start to become hardcore perfectionists. This is a multiplayer game, but their standards are so high they rather go and purge and kill than move on themselves. I get it if your action saves a town but is it really worth it all? Like, usually newbies and 'sponges' die on their own anyways so I'm not THAT bothered by them. To me it is not worth the drama to act. I'd rather take my leave than sit around "getting annoyed" at a player who happens to share the coordinates with me in this particular hour.

Overall, I aim to always side with the "just" player, but funny thing about humans is that everyone thinks they are justified in their acts. Like from the other thread, someone justified their murder because they were given a bad name. I wouldn't side with that person and I'd rather have someone kill such player, but I wouldn't care enough to start hunting them myself.

Anyways I'll end it with a positive note: I read this to learn the patterns and systems of weapons so I can make the chase harder if someone tries to murder me again. It's good to know the weaknesses of weapon systems and how they generally work. I don't have the weapon experience nor do I crave to have it, so it's good to hear from someone who has dealt with them.

#808 Re: Main Forum » Can we please cool it with the deserts? » 2018-08-06 07:44:20

Yes, this area is not the worst, the stuff I was pointing out is
RKhrBQi.png
This, and the fact that many (newer?) people tend to hoard clothes on themselves along with placing bear rugs on these wooden floors.

Ofc we love the deserts but I think the thread is trying to point out how people boil themselves in deserts. I didn't know personally that the hot temperature could be worse than cold ("I don't know if most people know this, but overheating doesn't have a cap. And if it does, it's certainly high enough to wear it's basically irrelevant.") so it is certainly something to be aware of from now on. I've seen many smiths with clothes on in a desert smithing/cooking station... myself included.
The cooking stations should at least be situated at the edges of the desert, not like it is in my picture: the bottom oven is quite alright, I'd have put it a bit to the right.
And the smithing area in the picture is fine (if the smiths go naked) although the floors are really not needed.

Story of the picture:
Jess Lucky was born as her mother, Vienna Lucky, ran to do her errands (probably never noticing the birth of her daughter). Amber Lucky happened to be around, and took Jess under her wings along with another baby. Amber talked to the two babies, Jess sitting in place as the other baby waddled around.

When Amber picked up Jess to give her a name,
"You are Jes--",
an arrow was shot through her body from behind by a running murderer with his bow.
Jess fell from Amber's arms. The other baby ran away.
"Help", Amber called out to the villagers.

Jonathan, barely an adult himself, ran to the scene with his knife in his apron. Amber started to make her way slowly towards the medic's hut. Jonathan ran after the murderer. Jess couldn't feed herself yet and she was alone, only knowing where Jonathan was, so she waddled up to see the situation.

Jonathan stood in the desert alone with his bloodied knife. He was in the weakened "after-murder stupor" state in the burning heat.
Jess managed to utter a shortened 'thank you' to Jonathan. She proceeded to ask if he was OK. Jonathan requested food. Jess, now being able to hold items, ran off to find food for her savior.

Jess fed him pie, and Jonathan thanked the child. Amber's naming had been interfered which had left Jess unnamed, so Jonathan promised to name her after he was fully functional again. He recovered, and lifted Jess from the ground. As she was picked up, she said:
"Jess",
"You are Jess", he said almost at the same time. Seemed so that he had heard Amber's naming.

Amber had died, and Jonathan talked to Jess about her. She told him;
"She.. was.. my.. sur-roga-te.. mom..",
"Aww", Jonathan said, "I'll give you my apron and knife when I get old".

Jess went to live on as a productive part of the town, enjoying her life. Jonathan would zoom around, helping everyone, also stopping another murderer. He was a busy man, but Jess would always look forward to seeing him.

I THINK people start making smithing and baking areas deep into deserts due to the vast space and usually no clutter. Then they stay deep in deserts. Then nobody moves the darn places and people cook themselves.
I've seen babies run into desert bonfires. And some moms put kids on wooden floors with bear rugs on desert WITH A BONFIRE.
Maybe we could use a "blush" texture that shows sweatdrops and redness or something to show newbies that your character is boiling there.

I think I draw the line when my kid starts murdering people or acting like a brat. They aren't your real children, after all, Just a random person in another part of the world.

How can you truly know someone that you've met less than an hour ago?

At first I was this soft hearted player who wanted to give a chance for everyone to play as I knew the game was often just "get abandoned as a baby -simulator" experience, so I tried to keep babies alive even as a freshly spawned Eve, even if it spelt my disaster to drag them around (like, no babies left behind craziness, ofc that was not good for anyone, not even for the babies). Then, soon after some good, normal lives, I spawned an actual griefer. Then a murderer. Then another murderer. I realized I may be the one who destroys towns if I keep this up. I started to 'baby test', which probably ended many newbie lives, but they had their chance to talk to me so I could see their speech bubbles. I never really had this mindset of "unconditionally loving everyone that spawns as my kid" thing, they really, really are just other players around the world that just pop in, no love in that honestly; it was just me knowing how harsh the game is and wanting to offer a longer session to people who just want to play and not get abandoned or killed. I really hope people learn quickly that not all kids are angels or innocent like real-life children: not all deserve to be raised (talking about murderers and griefers here), so please people, be careful letting such feelings haze your ability to judge. Your sweetest children may suffer due to one bad child so put that on the scale too. I'm sure the baby's helpless state tugs some primal senses of the players, and while I find that amazing, I fear that too many will have to learn the hard way of the fact that some of their spawn are there just to cause problems. They should earn your love, and the majority of my spawn do that in the end. smile

To OP: I hope you get many more fun lives without that player! Glad to see people overcame this "roleplayer-griefer's" acts.

#815 Re: Main Forum » Chaotic Town » 2018-08-05 10:55:46

Yeahh, griefer-wise triplets and quadruplets seem safer than twins... Also, raising twins is a gamble even if they are not griefers: if one goes and dies accidentally, the other one will kill themselves, so you might have wasted resources on raising them just to see them both die suddenly. Twins should expect harsh lives as babies and accept in silence that they are not quite worth the gamble most of the time instead of getting offended...
About getting offended: in my experience, I was in a small town and birthed a girl who hopped off my arms constantly, like she was avoiding the naming, and wouldn't say anything (hiding the speech bubble possibly?). I was really worried that she was constantly trying to run off to a nearest bear pen to grief the town with no weapons and once she saw no bear pens she sat in my arms a bit longer, giving me enough time so I could drag her far into the wilderness and leave her there. Some babies later, I birthed another girl, and as I held her to name her, she hopped off. I caught her, but she did this again, so I couldn't get to name her. I ran after her as she ran to a bonfire to merge into the baby pile. The nursing-lady was feeding them all, and I said to her, "Don't feed that girl", to which my daughter barked: "R-U-D-E". Well soooorry little princess, you are acting suspicious and this situation is ringing alarm bells in my head, so yeah... She did get fed and grew up in the end, thankfully she was not a griefer, she died as an adult to a Grizzly Bear (maybe some griefer-kid did find a bear pen eventually, the nursing-lady did feed EVERYONE while I did harsh baby tests to my spawn due to our town being constantly in famine). So whoever you are Fiona Sorbo (she got a name from the nursing-lady afaik), know that you acted really suspicious as you hopped off my arms like that. Don't do it as a mom is trying to name you and you are good. I would have raised you if you would have let me name you and hold you but you just had to run off to the baby pile bonfire.

Back to OP's message: anyways great to see you lead a long life apart from the sticky start!

big_smile big_smile big_smile big_smile Pharo and Jony! Your messages! Grinning so hard.

Ok I will drop my thoughts down here quickly:
- maybe don't play the "Evil" character in a way that leads to you killing a random mother unless she is doing actual bad things
- it should be common sense that if you kill people, and others see it, they will memorize that there is a dangerous individual around no matter the background or history - don't start such loops, it's not good, it does nothing, as pein said, there was no reason to start the chaos: "I was named Evil" is not a valid reason to me
- I'd suggest living further away from the place if people hunt you, you can go along and make your own life if people keep chasing you, just leave them there and grow your potatoes for yourself

Like, there is no way to turn the blame onto the poor villagers that thought they were under constant threat with you around. They may only see a glimpse of what has happened, so saying "they shouldn't just line up and die, their fault" sounds really immature: in their eyes they were trying to vanguish a bad guy, like no wonder they attack! You probably were the only one who even knew your motive for the first killing...

Hackers: well uhh those are always possible so shrug on that.

Ahh man, I feel you, at least the first successful lineage of my Eve'ing ended at gen 8 to murder and not to starvation/girl drought, but then I noticed that this second round I just had has ended at GEN 4! Ooof. I really wished to revive the town for a fair good amount of generations but nope. There was the dreaded drought of girls in the grandchildren's children section so there's that but... All but one of my daughters just managed to somehow die in the well-off village filled with berries and leftover pie. Stephan(ie), my daughter, the one who lived to 58 and managed to get grandchildren had this goal of "traveling" as she was a teen, me and my son looked at her wide eyed like "GIRL. YOU ARE THE ONLY FERTILE GIRL HERE. PLEASE. DO NOT TRAVEL. FOR THE SAKES OF ALL THAT IS GOOD. YOU WILL DIE TO THE FIRST BOAR", thank goodness she didn't set off at that time.
Was really surprising to see my other daughters' bone piles as all of my kids were vocal and seemed to be very decent players, but I guess they just couldn't get their berries in time... These experiences make me question every time someone says "no more children" as suddenly all children can be dead due to noobs/accidents: starvation deaths next to full berry bushes...

It does look like my grandchildren Amy and Emily were doing great, oddly Emily got only two boys and nothing else and seems that Amy's only daughter ran off (her last words are ""Thank you infants that ran out on me."). They were trying, I'm happy for that, thank you Amy and Emily. I will try to bring the town back, hopefully you get to experience and enjoy it another time.

I wonder if Daniel Gala and Love Gala II had some "let's just die" killing moment after no girls were left? Seems like an odd kill in there by Daniel.

my best was once in an overpopulated village i felt like scouting and i found tons of cacti then tons of ponds on a corner of desert, tied to huge green biome

didnt wanted at first but as i followed marker was straight diagonal, like 150 tile away, so i made a new camp and populated it, barely got some tools, like pouch, needle and axe

then i died with grandkids
they were decent and built it up, oldtown died out
i came back few generations later to my camp

wasnt eve but was doing an eves job

but then that camp was dying out so i returned to old camp and a daughter repopulated it, with berries returning was okay for a smaller family
got sheep and compost, we lasted ten more generations with the doubble swap

one bad experience was when i made a pen on a camp where me and bro died, mom died to a bear kinda old but might of had a chance to get a sister

it was very early when people barely reached composting, so a small city with not even full tools had a pen and sheep

i born back later as a guy, had some irl issues, but also seen people shooting each other, with the bow and arrows i made against the bears, we had many caves
in the end didnt even wanted to leave when people shoot others cause 'she told me gonna kill me'
dumb reasons

I hoped the village had more stuff going on at gen 8 but oh well, still took a while to recognize it! big_smile Maybe I get some lucky spawns to experience this more often.

Ahh, I wish more Eves scouted more for a good base! Sometimes an awesome biome mix is right nearby like how you found your place.
I think these "mini bases" are great! May be quite the life and lineage savers when a famine strikes and a lucky one wanders out towards the wilderness and stumbles across a small base. I will surely make more of these "mini bases" if I ever get spawned into a town that has too many annoying people. big_smile

I had this one village where they had no desert at all and THREE bear caves in the area, two right next to the berry farm FILLED WITH CHILDREN and the third one just a tiny bit further away. I looked at the place like "ok this is a disaster town right here". My son tried to block the caves with walls but the village had ran out of fertile women at that point, some to the old bear infestations (I survived the one in my lifetime, a bear was spawned by a runaway child, probably a griefer) and after I lost my fertility, my daughters just starved next to berries... Byebye, bear town.

Lovely! Thank you for the confirmation. I wonder if it is strictly "old age -death only" that does the trick, as sometimes old Eves die due to forgetting to eat, but at like 57 years. Ah well I guess it could be seen as a prize for the sweet 60 years.

Would be cool if other people's old age deaths (especially old age male deaths in dying cities) could trigger a spawn for an Eve for repopulating the place.

How exciting, first time I have had this happen, and first time my Eve spawns into any village in general! (This would be my thirty-something'th life as an estimate.)
27th of July I had an Eve run, this time I found a good set of biomes and resources for a base as an Eve ("Gala" lineage 713725). I died to old age with my home marker set in ground.
Now, a week later, I spawned into a rather familiar looking village with deteriorating items everywhere, nobody around ("Gala" lineage 768945). I scanned the place and realized it was my village: after the eight generations of changes! My lineage had died to a griefer first, but I got back there, so nice! The berry farm was expanded towards the desert (I don't know why my daughter wanted to have it in the green biome in the first place) and berries were ready for picking (glad the farm was left in good condition so the bushes were alive and well!), iron had been hoarded and people had built things (like floors and the new baking and smithing area... in desert... for some reason. Maybe there was more space there back then...).

NyeuAxq.png

Thank you to everyone who helped keeping up the place and a special thank you to whoever helped in expanding the berry farm towards the desert (that's where the warmth is people! big_smile).
mfBACaO.jpg

I should've made a deep well when I was there, that was an alarming thing to lack but I was too focused on getting the place scanned and reborn.

Perhaps it is intended that old age deaths and home markers function as beacons for future spawns? Could it be tied to your old lives only or could other Eves maybe spawn to your marker too? For now it seems that it could be so that it is tied to your own old markers and old age deaths of past and works only for your own Eve spawning.

Anyways it was great seeing the place again! I hoped I'd get to see it once more. I still think it is a good location, maybe if the snow biome was savanna and few more ponds but that'd be just a garden of Eden then. big_smile

#822 Re: Main Forum » The latest in griefers » 2018-08-02 18:30:15

Try not to let them bother you, that's what they want to do. Let them waste their time and know they will never get that wasted time back. You should focus on making your gaming session as fun as you can, I know it's not easy but try not to let griefers ruin your gaming session for you. A life can stretch to an hour or seconds in this game, and there may always be a better one right after, so don't worry about killing/dying too much. It happens anyways.
