a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

11. While you're here, let's have the server get the latest code and build it, in case it's updated since I created the image. Assuming you're still in the build directory (if not, run
cd ~/ohol-build), run:
sh refreshBuildScript.sh sh pullAndBuildTestSystem.shThe first script gets the latest version of the build script, and the second script is the actual build script. The build will take a minute.
Not sure I understand what that does exactly. I did run it and it worked fine, but does that mean that the map itself gets updated with new items and stuff?
And if not, how can I have the map itself updated? (I'm assuming the old map with my progress will be wiped or replaced)
UPDATE: The map seems to have spawned the new update items while keeping my previous progress intact. AWESOME!
Note: Not gonna delete this post in case someone ever wondered the same thing.
You're quite right, given where the instructions would have you be. I'll change it, thanks!
No dude thank YOU.
You're the guy who spent his 60 mn making clothing for the rest of the colony but irl.
I'm enjoying my solo run on my private server thanks to you.
Much appreciated dude (or dudette)
12. When it's done, start the OHOL server. Run:
cd ohol-build/OneLife/server ./OneLifeServer
I think this needs correction OP
it should be:
cd OneLife/server
./OneLifeServerAt least that's how I got it to work.
I'm a big n00b in this kind of things tho, probably be obvious to an experienced user.
It used to be that if you lived to 60 and died of old age, you would respawn near your camp. However, with the recent changes to spread Eves out, that probably doesn't work anymore. But on the server there should still be some files you can edit to spawn in the same location every time:
forceEveLocation.ini (set this to 1)
forceEveLocationX.ini (edit these if location (0, 0) sucks)
forceEveLocationY.iniIf you've found a good location, I'm not sure how to find the coordinates so that you can edit those X/Y files properly. I mean, there are plenty of possibilities, but I don't know what the current state of things is and what the easiest way is. Maybe somebody else can chime in?
Or, you could always just shotgun it - change the numbers and see where it puts you.
I'll try doing this and messing around once I've got the server setup, and maybe I update this thread if I find something interesting to share.
Is there a way to set up this custom local server in a way to make me ALWAYS re-spawn where I last died??
Plz tell me there is ![]()
Also I'm assuming the map would never clear itself if I don't update it, right?
@bread_lord
Thank you so much
@breezeknight
Thx for pointing me in the right direction
Well I want to build a whole colony on my own and work my way up the tech tree.
I'm joining empty official servers to do just that.
However, it's really shitty for me to start all over again every time I spawn in the middle of nowhere: It takes me 1 life to get carrots and milkwheet planted which is 1 hour of same gameplay over and over and over again.
I get this is not the original purpose of the game, but still since a private server can be set up, and hopefully i can incorporate a way to spawn where I choose to (or where I last died at least), I'm asking if someone can explain how to do this step-by-step in details.
Words like "git pull" are lost on me so I can't follow the directions of Jason.
I don't even know where to start.
I realize this might be a big ask, but can someone post step-by-step instructions FOR DUMMIES on how to set up your own game server on windows PC locally and play on it.
I read Jason's thread https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=112 but don't really understand most of the terms: I'm not so well versed in this.
If someone's up to the task, all I would like is being able to build a village on my own and spawn at the same place where I died to continue my progress.
The purpose mainly is learning and experimenting on my own.
The file is called countingOnVsync, and changing it to 1 seems to have solved the issue. (at least for the 5 mn i tested it)
TargetFrameRate is set to 30.
But more importantly is there a way to guarantee re-spawning where you die of old age??? Maybe a thread I missed or something.
Thought of asking before starting another run: I was the only player on server10, and losing all the progress I made over 4 lives for no apparent reason stings.
I set the TargetFrameRate to 30 and now I move double fast but actions wait until I get there in the time I should have if that makes any sense.
Unless you mean it's a different file I should edit.
Anyway, I did not even spawn at my old village, the one I started alone, which sucks. I thought respawning where you die of natural causes is reliable and consistent. It seems not. (although I'm sure it has nothing to do with the frame rate fixed to 30)
I'm gonna try quitting and rejoining in the hopes it puts me there again.
Windowed mode it is for the time being.
Oh and I don't even know how to turn vsync off; I think this might actually fix things
Thx for the reply Verinon1.
I'm too scared to try it though. I already spend like 3 lifetimes in a solo adventure, and I'd hate to login and have the game unplayable to the point where I die of starvation and lose all my progress.
And from reading this thread https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=104, I'm worried that messing with the framerate will cause all kinds of trouble.
To hell with this, I'll try it right now FOR SCIENCE.
I'll update this thread as soon as I'm done.
When I'm in fullscreen mode, every couple of minutes (or when my screen is full of stuff like trees), my character moves much slower then usual for about 15 seconds then goes back to normal. Interacting with stuff is equally slow.
This does not occur when in windowed mode.
I'm playing on an empty server so I don't think this qualifies as lag like other threads on this forum.
I have a pretty good gaming Lenovo laptop which I use for more graphically demanding games with no issues.
Game is running at 60 Fps. Vsync is ON.
Anything I can do to manually fix this? I really prefer fullscreen mode, especially for this game.
