Notes are only useful when paired with old people that can read them aloud. Young players are both the only ones who don't have the information and the only ones who can't get information by reading notes.
It would make notes last longer though: a note on the wall does not waste valuable space.
I’m not sure, but I think as soon as you’re 10 years old you can read the whole message on papers and maps. If I’m right, it’s a good change.
And this idea is good, we currently have to use waystones in order to “clip” paper on a rock, but not everyone use that. We could have a pin-panel.
Sometimes I get connected to s1 without changing anything. I mean, I’ve not changed any config to go to another server, I don’t even know how to do that, but sometimes when I login, I just get connected there. I made a post months ago relating that, weird indeed.
There is a way to force-drop things in bad biomes using a horse cart, I reported it today.
https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8845
If you have a horse, with a horse cart, and are in a jungle (let’s suppose you’re a ginger), if you drop the horse in a non-restricted biome, you (in the jungle) can take things from this non-restricted biome (even from the horse) and when you walk, you drop the item in the jungle.
It’s not a big deal, but when we don’t have a multicultural town, griefers can put important things (water buckets, tools, steel) in a restricted biome and there is no way for we to get it, unless we find another family race that can do.
A little rounded stone, that could be used for multiple purposes, since fixing stakes on the ground ‘till making cisterns.
How would you carry gold coins? Four coins per backpack seems like a pretty useless currency model.
Yes, we would need a kind of little gold bag that we can tie or fix on our pants. That bag would carry may be 30 golden coins, and we could also put the little bag in our backpack (like we do with bait bags).
As everyone said, it wouldn’t be that useful since communism is easier, but since we have hierarchy system that isn’t that useful as well. I would love to see golden coins. We could also be able to turn them into gold bars again.
We are greed and like money in real life, so we are used to it, I don’t doubt people would change their clothes for golden coins, even when the clothes are more useful. Just for fun, nothing close to meta-game.
I like the idea, at least we could be able to “mark” marked graves like we do with way stones, so we could write something cool there, about their history or even their last words.
I don’t think it means forcing anything.
We just neede to be able to make golden coins, people will use if they want, like the hierarchy system or the property fences. It only would be forcing if people be forced to use currency in order to pick up items and whatnot. But as far as I am concerned, giving the ability to make currency in game, won’t force anything
I totally agree with Luniatji, forcing someone who doesn’t want to stay is bad, they’ll probably grief the town somehow, even if by griefing I mean dying at age of four far from town (or in a restricted biome) with a full set of clothes.
Once I read, that when your newborn baby dies (except from SID), it gives you a “bad mom score”, the higher that score, the lower your chances of having babies. Of course, it also decreases your fit score, which might decreases your tool slots and your food bars when you’re old in future lives. Having free tokens to curse bad babies/ bad mothers sounds good to me.
Yesterday I was in a crazy town with a mother and daughter killing people, they ended up dead, but both of them were born again in the same town (only me, my mother and sister alive), my baby run with a full set of clothes and I couldn’t curse her because of no curse tokens (as I said I always curse griefers, annoying people and suspicious, since I can be born where they’re I might’ve cursed the same person multiple times), but my mother and sister did, although my niece was also one of the murders, but she only ran with a lot of stuff (full set of clothes and bp full of steel) when she was 3, so she could eat and ran further, I chased her for like ten years but managed to shot her with a bow that I found in a small camp, spent ten more years looking for her body (behind a tree) and more tens going back, thankfully I could curse her since I got a new token. When I arrived in town, my mother and sister had died of old age already and we had plenty of young people there, no one knew me since they were born after my departure.
I really love the idea, communism sucks. I read a topic earlier talking about how a guy hunted a lot of rabbits and someone just stole it and made a backpack for his family and the worst part is that people said the thief was right lol.
Gold has few uses, I think we can only make crowns and bells, so making gold coins would be fun at least, we could store the coins in a pouch on our waist or something like that. Once you are rich, you can hire people to work in your property, farming wheat, making pies and whatnot, pay them to follow you.
The problem is that making safe shops is complicated. I think the only safe way is using property fences, although they take some time to be “unremovable”.
Edit: wait a sec, were the guy who wrote “money” on maps and then a girl stole your “money”?

I gave up on this boy Punkypal when he said having mixed race babies would really bad because it causes laag to the server and create super humans that can walk in two different restricted biomes (like we couldn’t walk in all biomes before that update). He just wants to disagree with people and show he’s better lol. He is pretty new player, but knows more than all the veterans and I am sure he knows everything about YouTube channels and tutorials, he might have a professional studio and 10 Mi subs. xD
It's OK, I gave up on you when you seriously suggested that Jason, INSTEAD OF JUST REMOVING RACE DIFFERENCES, should take time to write more code to make race differences obsolete, basically backtracking something he has been quite clear about wanting to introduce, rather than, IDK, about 1000 other things he could be doing, such as actually adding more content. Almost as big of a waste of time as Legs dying on the "Pine Doors Need Locks" hill.
I'll let you in on a little something. I might think I know everything, but unlike you, I'm not a hypocrite. So I have that at least.
But I'll answer the question. I don't make the videos myself because it simply isn't worth it. Hardly anyone plays this game and it could end tomorrow if Jason decides he's finally bored with it. I'm not even playing anymore at this point, and if Jason doesn't fix up some of the major problems this game has, and instead does fuckall such as, IDK, make it so people are randomly born as a human, or an INFERIOR AND WEAKER human, thus exacerbating the problem with people using /DIE or suicideing then I won't be playing in the future either. I also can't just make quality videos from my iphone when I have spare time out and about town, whereas explaining basic things on a forum I can do from virtually anywhere.
I could make a quality video if I wanted to. I have worked to produce quality videos with professional YouTubers that have generated over a million views. A good quality video is going to, as I said, get likes and follows, and shares. Crap will get skipped in less than 15 seconds. If Fryinggpan wants to make a video that's 3 minutes long but people only watch 15 seconds of it, then by all means he can go right ahead. They could be so bad that LESS people want to buy the game after watching the video maybe. Would that make you happy? Hummmm? Would that be better for OHOL?
As to assuming they will be bad. I'm not assuming they will be bad. But have you ever looked up a video game tutorial for any game on YouTube? It sounds like maybe you have not. If you do look up such videos you'll find that 95% or more fail to do any of the things I suggested, and if you could see the analytics you'd see they are getting almost no engagement. Then look up a video that has 100's of thousands of likes and followers and you'll see they hit every single one of my points. If you think any of these things is "just being picky" then maybe you've just made mediocrity a lifestyle.
lol
Kidnapping would immediately be a huge issue, we can't have faith in people to not abuse it.
True. And the “follow moms” would let us starve as well. Welp.

Babies should walk slowly, like when you murder someone. Makes sense and fix this problem.
People should learn how to deal with cows, they are a great source of food, but people don’t know how to milk cows nor drink milk.
Pine doors being new or not isn't the point. Their widespread usage is new. Before they were made cheaper they were effectively never used. Since they were never used, this problem went unreported. Now that they're then standard, they need to be lockable.
I mean, what magical properties do pine doors have that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to install a lock? It's unrealistic, silly and clearly not working as intended.
You can't install springs onto pine doors either, are you going to tell me that was also intended? No, there's no reason not to let them spring open and shut other than it being an obvious oversight.
Unrealistic is thinking that a lock will prevent me from opening a pine door lol.
Yes, people did use it before. I made a post in my ex girlfriend account 10 months ago telling people how I was locked my entire life in a building because people locked all wooden doors and how I failed to make a pine door when I was released (I actually made a pine wall).
So yes, people used it even 10 months ago, I’ve seen several ones when it was very expensive. People used because they are unlockable and everyone knew it.
Link of my post talking about it 10 months ago: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5604
O played a lot that week and running babies didn’t bothered me. Had 1 or 2, but I cursed them. Some of them are just new players, I just learned /die after 1 month playing. Just say to them “type slash die”, if they don’t you can curse them.
24 is too much to me as a veteran player, although it’s not the same for beginners, principally the slow ones. We have already had 6 life tokens limit, 12, 18 and whatnot, now it’s 24 and for beginners it’s amazing. Months ago 9/10 of the babies /die or ran away, nowadays it’s very rare so I think it’s ok, at least for now.
Edit: I also curse a lot, griefers, very suspicious people and annoying ones, so the reason to don’t get many running babies might be it. As far as I’m concerned, I can be born where they are (if they didn’t curse me, but I always hide to curse), but they can’t be born where I am. I do it because it increases the chance of having hard work people in the town I am, and less lazy, annoying people and griefers, even if I have to curse innocent people occasionally.

It's like saying, let's give all players 5 extra tool slots, but lets have a tool slot tax that takes extra tool slots away. Running more code to do nothing doesn't seem like a good idea. Seems like the kind of thing that creates server lag. IDK.
WTF are you talking about dude?
He’s talking about creating more races, the mixed ones, where a half of the family is what and the other half is black for example. So the mixed race would have a different skin tone and the hability to go in deserts and snows (if the mix is ginger and black). It’s not coding for nothing, it would make the game more realistic and vary. Also it won’t create server lag since 99,99% of the stuff to make that would be client sided and not server sided.
Also not everything is intentional, Jason is testing stuff, like he did with the Rift and Swords months ago and then removed them. Having mixed babies would solve a big problem and also makes the game more realistic.
WTF are you talking about? So If I'm born mixed race, then I have the abilities of every race that's in my village, right? So if all 4 races are in a village then I guess every baby is 25% of each and has all abilities. I'm assuming then that all babies going forward will be the same every race baby. Thus basically that town has eliminated the race differences. Before long these "every race" babies will travel around and have babies. Geez, how many generations until every person is a 4 way mixed race? So we have the code for each race, and then more code to make every player every race, i.e. the same as their just being no races.
Or are y'all suggesting that randomly sometimes these "all race" people would produce a single race or even only dual race baby that loses most/many of the benefits their parent has? So every time I'm born there is a chance I'll be a "super human" or a limited one with as much as 75% less advantages. Even if you limit the max to 2 races in the mix, you are still basically asking for two kinds of humans. Either you get born as a regular human, or a dual-race super-human.
Yes that sounds very brilliant. I was just saying how nobody ever uses the /DIE command. That should give a very noticeable bump to the baby suicide rate. Then again, all the parents who leave their single race babies to die because they aren't super babies might just balance that out. I look forward to all the times I'll be left to starve until I'm finally born an acceptable multi-racial baby. Or is everyone ALWAYS born a multi race? What about Eve's? If realism is such a concern, tell me what would a black-ginger look like vs a black-blondie?
How can you say, "Not everything is intentional" and apply it to this? Are you suggesting the different races are some kind of bug and Jason added them by accident? When he drew the art for each skin tone he was trying to draw something else, like an ironing board, or a turnip? When he wrote a forum post describing how he is intentionally added this to the game, that was just 1000 monkeys randomly typing on keyboards, but instead of writing Shakespeare, they wrote a coherent post about a OHOL update? Amazing!
How would it not involve more coding? Would Jason just ask the program nicely to do this on it's own accord? Even if it has negligible effect on lag, it's still more code to run. More places a bug could hide. Lag at server end or player end is still lag, and I've played many times where the game became literally unplayable because as much as a 15-20 delay. So, I don't know where that's falling or what triggers it, but until Jason does get that sorted out, I don't think adding more code, of any length, that has the sole purpose of making other code mean nothing is the best thing.
You want more realistic? Explain to me why it takes about 5 years to make one piece of paper.
Or better yet, we have a game where no sex is required, and no males even need to be present for a female to pop out a baby at any time between the ages of 14 to 40, and the part of that you're hung up on is that all these "virgin births" only produce the same race as the mother? That's the least absurd part of it.
Exactly!
At the beginning it just an Eve, they can’t even make a large fire, but they develop their town untill the point they can. Same thing with biome restrictions, at the beginning we can’t go everywhere, but then we develop our town, mix races untill the point we can go everywhere.
“The Code” isn’t a big deal, I’m a programmer and I know where I’m talking about. We have functions and whatnot, I’m sure Jason is a good programmer and very organized.
Lets suppose each race is represented by a number, ginger = 1, black = 2 ... mix ginger and black = 7...
If (race == 7){
canWalkOnDesert = true;
canWalkOnSnow = true;
};
It’s just an example, just so you see he will write less than 1KB of code, since all the functions are already ready.
What I think would be harder is drawing all those mixed races.
And it’s not being Superman, I play it for 1 year now and all that time everyone could walk everywhere, people are complaining a whole lot about the biome restrictions, so adding mixed races would be a solution for that, so if we have a multicultural town, with the past of time we would have the knowledge to explore all the biomes.
You might be a new player and started playing with that biome restrictions, but when he drew all the characters, all of them could go everywhere. Since then he is testing a lot of stuff, we had a mutation system, where a ginger mother could give birth to a brown baby and whatnot. This biome restriction is very recent and it’s being tested as well.
If you are afraid of updates, because it might lag the server, so it’s better to Jason stop adding new features like he was doing weekly, since the code will laag the server it’s better to stop now and leave the game as it is. Also, just because we take five years to make a paper, three years to make pie, doesn’t mean we can ask more realistic things such as mixed races, it won’t hurt anyone. I’m not even asking it now, just saying it would be a good addition to the game, since he adds new stuff weekly anyway.
I would say the reason is that it's an intentional game mechanic to make different races, and thus create a certain type of gameplay. Building in something that counteracts this intentionally introduced game mechanic doesn't seem to make sense. If Jason was going to do this, why not just remove different races?
It's like saying, let's give all players 5 extra tool slots, but lets have a tool slot tax that takes extra tool slots away. Running more code to do nothing doesn't seem like a good idea. Seems like the kind of thing that creates server lag. IDK.

does that mean i was in the right or wrong?
If you hunted the rabbits, you could even make shoes and you would be right. I mean, you spent your time hunting, even if she made pants the rabbits don’t belong to her, she will get the status, followed for something you did and when you need the trustworthy of people you won’t have because the woman brought the pants, not you. The problem is: no one knows the truth. If you had killed her, people would curse you. And every case of police and ling ended up in tyranny, so we don’t have them.
The only options are either being super skeptical, making the clothes far from town and picking your rabbits whenever someone gets closer, or making friendship, a sort of mini rp so people will remember your name. Saying good job, ily and hi to people when you are a baby, giving clothes to the youngs or even pies to those who are working, now we can even follow people, so they feel grateful and you can use that gratefulness in your advantage when some shit like that happens, you can lie a little bit to your friends saying “keep an eye on that person, she hid steel behind a tree” or something like that and then when that person does something bad again, you tell it to your friends and they will turn against the griefer/thief/annoying person.
It reminds me a play, about 7 months ago I think. I was hunting, had 12 rabbits in a cart and a full set of clothes. I was going back to town when suddenly a girl shot me, at that time a simple left click was enough to kill someone, we didn’t had the GASP and the exclamation mark, she said “thanks for the clothes”, “and rabbit”, I couldn’t even revenge myself since we got area banned when murdered by someone at that time, so we could only spawn in that area after playing for 10 hours after being area banned or after 7 days.
Coincidentally enough, Twisted was in the same town at the same time and recorded it, so I could see what happened after my death. She brought the rabbits back, so people trusted her and there were domestic boars in town. She shot her mother and told them her brought the boars, everyone believed her. Her last word were something like that “I told u mom, i killed u and brought boars”.
That day I was so pissed I had insomnia and quited playing for weeks.
To be honest, it’s actually good. When griefers lock doors, we change to pine doors so they can’t lock it. I don’t think it was an oversight, we use it even in stone buildings when griefers are around. It was extremely expensive before, we had to use 5 ropes, even then we made pine doors only because people couldn’t lock them.
I think it should stay as it is, the only people who use lock and key nowadays are griefers, if you don’t want people to use the building you made, you should use property fences, things outside a property fences belong to the community who lives in the town.
Way-stones are about only slightly harder to make as walls and are significantly more permanent due to requiring two to remove. Also, horse carting things off doesn't guarantee the items are destroyed, especially with just 5 min out and 5 min back of riding.
Nah, 5 min riding is more than 1000 tiles away, I doubt someone will find it and even if they find, it would be easier to make new cut stones than looking for stones in many directions in a 1000 tiles radius.
I mean, 10 minutes with a horse cart is enough to spread all the cut stones in many directions behind trees far away from town, for sure I would dig new stones in a close mountain biome and put them in a horse cart, instead of looking my entire life for hidden stones in all directions.
Even destroying and hiding wall stones being that easy, I don't see griefers doing that. So I think they wouldn't do that with waystones, and even if they do, we just need need a shovel, chisel, mallet and map, 2 minutes is enough to make a new waystone if you have the tools.
EDIT: In five minutes going straight in a direction, you ride approximately 2200 tiles.
Ex: I can make a stone building in one life, destroying it I must eat a lot for hungry work, but as soon as I finish destroying it someone comes along and simply puts the remains on the building back in the same exact spot in less than 5 mins without building any tools or anything.
Or you can just put the remains in a horse cart and put far away, destroying hours of work in 10 minutes.
Waystones are harder to make than wall stones, but they are equally permanent. Although stone walls were never a problem, since they are easily removable while waystones require a huge effort and luck. To fix it, waystones should be removable using shovels while they aren’t ancient.
We should update those lists, since we have new mechanics and those biome restrictions, we need people to either trade biome exclusive supplies or exchange babies.
Since there a lot of nearby dead towns, a scavenger or looter can take a rubber horse cart and head east, few travels will worth more than lives of hard work. Also cartographers, to map towns, important spots, making waystones. Road makers to connect two towns of different races, è stimulating the exchanging of people. I think there are a few more, a 2.0 list is a good idea.
Families are moving frequently, there is a 1000+ tiles straight horizontal road connecting a lot of towns, even if a town is dead, someone will move there eventually. Yesterday I was Eve Brazil, I knew there were a whole lot of abandoned towns, so I ran east, found a living town, had two a babies there, tamed a horse and kept heading east until I found a big dead town which was connected to that 1000+ had a baby there and then I went to bell because I found kerosine hidden behind a bear cave and I knew the Bell Town was running out of water, had my last girl there.
So people eventually find those dead towns and live there. Families die quickly, but there are towns 1 week old + there, so your work will be enjoyed by someone. Even you in the future, you can go there and have your family, tell the history of the town so they will feel connected to it and work harder.
