#77 Re: Main Forum » Setting up your personal Linux test editor/server/client » 2018-07-25 21:06:01

If the gooseberry bushes appear to turn into other objects but still function properly, then the mismatch is in the client data. The best way to deal with that is to remove all the cached data files and re-run the client (assuming you're running the client and the server on the same machine).

cd OneLifeData7
rm */cache.fcz

If you're not running the client from the git repo, then you probably have different data on the server and in your client data files.

That's choice, bro! Tumeke.

#80 Re: Main Forum » Questions about setting up a private server to play with friends » 2018-07-21 23:15:32

1. The game is open source, so you can host and play it for free.

2. The easiest way is to host it on an actual Internet server but that obviously has costs involved. Hamachi should work in theory. Another option is to configure your home router to forward incoming traffic on the server port to your pc, but your ip address will change frequently.

3. It is made for Linux and as far as I know, nobody has got the server running on Windows yet, but it is not hard to get a Linux virtual machine running in Windows to host the game server.

#81 Re: News » Update: Server lag optimzation and client improvements » 2018-07-21 20:26:12

You could try copying server 1's data to a different server and compare performance to see if it's data vs hardware.

The forums are a better start than nothing, but the discord is where it's at. Anything posted on the forum is prone to going out of date pretty quick. People on the discord are constantly discussing the meta.

#85 Re: Main Forum » How do you quit this game? Clicking % to quit did nothing » 2018-07-17 00:30:03

I just email Jason using my phone whenever I want to quit, and he does it remotely.

#86 Re: Main Forum » Setting up your personal Linux test editor/server/client » 2018-07-16 04:10:49

I usually just clone the whole OneLife repo, then run the script inside it from the parent folder.

Did either of you have useCustomServer.ini set to 1?

#88 Re: Main Forum » Mobile Names Limit » 2018-07-13 12:21:05

There are no restrictions on the mobile version.

#89 Re: Main Forum » water power » 2018-07-13 08:53:35

This won't be in the base game unless Jason changes his mind. There are a couple of reasons. Rivers are not in scope, and networking is also not in scope. There might be a version of this kind of thing though, say a geyser that you can build something on top of or something like that.

Having said that, I have made a mod with a water biome and procedurally generated streams that can be used in recipes for crafting etc. One day (one glorious day) when I have a lot more time to spare I will make a complete mod and will incorporate the streams into it. I'm not sure about networking though because that will be hard.

#90 Re: Main Forum » EU Server » 2018-07-13 08:48:17

An alternative would be to run your own. I don't know if linode have any services in Europe, but they have servers for $5 a month, so hopefully there would be somewhere that you could run a server for cheap.

If you need help with setting it up or knowing what to do, you can jump on the discord channel and ask for help and someone with some experience running a server can help you out.

#91 Re: Bug Discussion » SFX problem » 2018-07-12 04:47:32

This sounds like a generic self-extracting installer issue. Try downloading it again. Also check that there is enough disk space where you are trying to install it.

#93 Re: Main Forum » Tiles » 2018-07-12 00:05:48

The game engine is built such that one tile = one ID. Just because an object is drawn small on the screen does not mean it is small in the server's concept of it. It's still one object with one ID. A Bear cave is the same as a goosberry seed and takes up one space. You could make tiles hold more stuff by making the tiles smaller, but then you would have to rewrite the engine to handle big things like the forge taking up four tiles instead of one.

So the long and the short of it is it can't be done without rebuilding the game engine.

Can you provide a screenshot? Better yet, join the discord server and ask in the #ask-for-help channel.

#95 Re: Main Forum » Solutions to common tech-support problems » 2018-07-11 03:52:09

There was a problem with the update for Windows users today. Jason has fixed it now.

#96 Re: Main Forum » Cannot curse unnamed kids » 2018-07-09 04:25:35

It's not a bug, that's all intentional. This was discussed at length before implementation.

#98 Re: Fixed Bugs » Forum thread can be deleted by OP with other people's comments » 2018-07-09 01:36:07

It looks like there are some permissions settings, but they would need to be set by Jason, not one of the moderators.

#99 Re: Fixed Bugs » Forum thread can be deleted by OP with other people's comments » 2018-07-09 01:34:24

Ah right, I didn't know users could delete their own threads. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it, but I'll look at the settings.

#100 Re: Fixed Bugs » Forum thread can be deleted by OP with other people's comments » 2018-07-08 23:32:23

Hmmm. I've only ever deleted spam threads. At least, I hope that is the case. I am more often than not moderating from my phone though, so I will take extra care to make sure I haven't thumbed the wrong thread before I hit delete in case it has been me.
