In one life I got married in the church after my sis build It. I proposed to the guy when I was around 15, he said that we should wait till the church Is finished. and we married like 5 min before dying from old age. Good life.

I was Morton. Church was finished earlier but compost cycle was on a brink of collapse so I focused hard on keeping it running.

We shared a wedding cake in berry bush farm right before I died of old age.

Was game download unusually slow to anybody else?

#78 Re: Main Forum » How to unlock the game on Steam » 2018-10-22 21:49:26

I managed to start it on steam, practiced a bit of smithing in tutorial area. Do you need to test anything else on steam?

#79 Re: Main Forum » Suicide is OP - Should it be nerfed? » 2018-10-22 10:12:12

I think if you implement baby can't run away from mother mechanic you should also make it so babies are born held in their mothers arms. If they had something they would drop it or something. Sometimes when I'm roaming I don't even notice a new baby poped out.

Riding on horses is obvious problem here. Maybe horse riders should be excluded from births?

That domestic bison though. Pen was constantly overcrowded because of it and her many starving children.

I was in that town, even got married in a church of Hope. We took our sweet time to finally do it, I think I was 58 when we said the wows. We shared a marriage cake in berry bushes and I died of old age seconds later.

Talked to a designer friend of mine just now.

Here are some minor tweaks to how things work that will help.

1.  Mothers have better control over babies.  Babies move even slower, and are easier to grab.  Babies cannot jump out of arms (this is kindof a pain anyway) until age 2 or 3.  If your mother wants you, she can keep you.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I see how this actually helps?  I strongly suspect all it'll mean much of the time is that you'll waste two or three minutes worth of effort and food on them -- and babies are going to sometimes be even more effort than before, if they're even slower and you give birth to them away from home and need them to follow you --  and then when they're able to, they'll just go and throw themselves on a snake, anyway, leaving both players feeling annoyed at having wasted their time.

2.  On disconnect, server keeps your record alive, as long as you haven't starved to death yet.  On reconnect, you re-enter that same living body, and resume play.  This is going to be needed anyway to deal with disconnects (a robustness measure).  This will also make disconnecting to suicide ineffective.  As long as the mother keeps caring for the zombie baby, the baby will stay alive, waiting for the reconnect.

I'm very dubious about the idea of keeping a zombie baby.  Either it disconnected by accident and might very well never come back, or it disconnected to try to die, and is just going to kill itself if and when it does come back.  And here I've been really, really enjoying the way that Donkey Town eliminated the tedious task of interrogating babies to make sure they're not cursed.  God, I hated doing that.  The thought of having to go back to doing that to make sure they're not disconnected is making me sigh rather heavily.

This isn't just about babies, it is for dealing with mass disconnects. Remeber when lag spike would wipe out half of village? This will help with this as people would have a chance to relog and resume their life.

And communicating with babies isn't such a hassle. I'm pretty sure community will figure out something that will be a shorthand for "I'll suicide on first opportunity" just like f is used for food. Even now while I'm Eve I say to my babies we are still looking for good spot to settle/still setting up so they know what they are getting into and quit before I dedicate precious resources to them.

What is harder in desktop version? I thought they are very similar.

#84 Re: Main Forum » Suicide is OP - Should it be nerfed? » 2018-10-19 08:01:04

I personally never suicide but I'm not bothered that others do it. People have limited free time and it is up to them how they will use it while playing this game.

#85 Re: Main Forum » The Life After My Death » 2018-10-07 13:58:55

I have been to the goose city myself yesterday. It was a nice place then and I really enjoyed life I lived there. Sad to hear about it being ruined...

#86 Re: Main Forum » Possible Food Rework » 2018-10-07 13:48:38

I think we should have a food decay system. For example - mutton is spoiled when left unprocessed and it spoils in 5 minutes (arbitary number). However, you can put it in a barrel of salt or put it in smokehouse and then it can last a lifetime.

#87 Re: Main Forum » what's donkey town » 2018-10-02 20:15:03

Donkey town is a Pinocchio reference if I'm not mistaken.

#88 Re: Main Forum » Abandon Boys » 2018-10-02 20:03:23

I think population control in early settlements are necessary. Why would you single out boys in particular I don't know. Sure, you need at least one girl but you are potentially abandoning an experienced player who could really make a difference.

I like this one. I usually don't roleplay but I always remove skeletons from bakery and say it isn't very sanitary to have dead bodies in kitchen.

#91 Re: Main Forum » MY Issues and Suggestions for the game from a new player » 2018-10-02 09:10:14

I already see this will be an unpopular opinion but I really like the limited speech feature. You have to work around this and it can be frustrating when you are experienced player but I really like how teenagers speak in abbreviatons and elders get to drone on and on. You can communicate within this system - I always ask my babies questions and they andswer with y or n, one letter is enough for that.

There is an in-built recipe list in lower right corner of the screen but it isn't intuitive to use. When I was new I would try to learn one new thing in every life so I can improve on my skills and be a better player. It is up to us as community to better teach new players and I agree, more players should dedicate their time to teach skills to others, we will all benefit from it in the long term.

#92 Re: Main Forum » PETITION seperate servers for STEAM users » 2018-10-02 08:33:52

Bigger userbase is better for the game. We have tools to deal with griefers and we will just have to focus more on learning new players. I always ask my babies are they new and yesterday I had a newbie daughter which didn't even know how to tend to berries or how to name children. By the end of my life sve learned to care for berries, carrots, wheat and how to bake pies. She wanted to learn, was attentive and picked up New skills fast. She died of old age and in the end was productive member of society.

I would like to believe we will get influx of such players once steam release happens and it is up to us to turn them into good players who will love this game and create a good healthy playerbase.

#93 Re: Main Forum » New sheep pen meta » 2018-09-27 09:13:25

What are ungriefable options? Boxes and uncle graves only?

#94 Re: Main Forum » New sheep pen meta » 2018-09-27 09:03:26

How about planting trees on north and east sides? Would that work?

#95 Re: Main Forum » Don't make oven base pens, make adobe half walls. » 2018-09-27 09:02:08

Dogs could be usefull for this potentially - to heard free-running sheep into a specific area.

#96 Re: Main Forum » New sheep pen meta » 2018-09-26 08:58:15

I love the con of uncle grave pen - probably haunted big_smile

#97 Re: Main Forum » New sheep pen meta » 2018-09-26 07:47:00

I like box pen idea best. Also, it is really convenient to store excess mutton and tools into them.

#98 Re: Main Forum » Steam: I've decided to do it » 2018-09-26 07:45:17

Frankly, I almost didn't buy the game because it wasn't on Steam. Even when I first heard about it first thing I did was try to find it on Steam. I even ended up adding OHOL as a non-steam game in Steam because it is the easiest way to share screenshots from the game to my friends in attempt to interest them. I would love to help with steam testing if you need it, just let us know what can we do to help. Writing reviews for example...

We as a community should really get together when the steam launch happens and help new players to learn and love this great game.

#99 Re: Main Forum » Stop making lazy sheep pens. » 2018-09-26 06:52:46

How about making a small cow pen as a proof of concept? Maybe all it would take would be to dig up center from existing huge berry farm?

I spent 20 years bringing branches from all over the map yesterday as a person in village wanted to make a fenced pen. I was helping as I wanted to see is there any benefit to it. It was actually a relief when a boar gutted me, it really takes ages and we could have had a functional pen much longer before if we just made one with trash pits.

There is a mod that removes it, streamers use it all the time.
