What if there were different heights of character models?  Slightly different, not too obnoxious.  That might be fun!  I could play as a short (adult) lady running around in the woods gathering tinder.

#102 Re: Main Forum » Wells, water containers, and water in general » 2018-05-23 18:17:04

Oh ok!  Thanks for clarifying!  A few questions for your design:

If wells can only be accessed only by buckets then maybe a cistern could be the only thing a full bucket could directly empty into?  Maybe that's what you meant with the well/cistern combo.  (If I understand that correctly).  Then the only things a single portion water container could draw water from would be ponds and cisterns, and you couldn't necessarily water three rows of seeds with one bucket.

Should well building include ropes (simulated pulley system)?

#103 Re: Main Forum » Wells, water containers, and water in general » 2018-05-23 17:47:30

Oh!  I'm sorry I misunderstood you then.

I think that's a fantastic idea.  My only concern with it is draining wells faster if we use buckets to their full extent (buckets with three portion capacity).

You know, if code was just added so the first male to pick you up and say, "I am your father" or whatever,  got labeled as your father, that would probably be sufficient and make most people happy. Could also make it so when you click on them in the family tree, it also lists their 'children' if you wanted to be really generous.

It doesn't really effect game play at all, it is just a nice thing that people would enjoy.

I agree!  It's the simple things sometimes.  There are a lot of possibilities of user interaction with this that could really add to the drama of the game.

I love hearing people's stories here.  That's one of the most engaging things about the community... something like legitimatized fatherhood could really spark some dynamic interest, in my opinion.

#105 Re: Main Forum » Wells, water containers, and water in general » 2018-05-23 17:38:25

I like this!

What if buckets were more useful capacity wise?  As in, a bucket held 2 portions of water (Kind of like a bowl of dough holds many portions of pie crust) instead of one?

I've never had the patience to make a bunch of buckets in game, so maybe this is already a thing.  Any woodworking generally confuses me.  The guy who spams wheels, now that's dedication, right there...

I feel like the main anxiety about wells is there is "no mouse over the entity to see the capacity" function, to the best of my knowledge.  The newer players, fueled by the best intentions, can drain the wells without knowing how or why.  (Or, maybe this user interface has been updated and I just run away from the wells in trepidation like an uncivilized savage... directly to the ponds... which happen to be miles away from the farm...)

This is why we see well walls.

Well, we asked for the ability for naming kids - and we eventually got it!

So I am hopeful that this can be implemented somehow.  Hopefully soon?

Maybe there should be limiting factors, like I can't adopt my baby sister/brother but I can adopt my abandoned neice/nephew?

How about something simple. Like when you say the phrase "love you wife x" or "love you husband x" it shows on the family tree as a husband and wife. I think it would be interesting. I know i have had a wife in the game. We were co dependent in our tasks and worked well together, raising kids and making pies and cloths. Tending to the milkweed and running gor carrot carts. Was a fun dynamic to the game that jist clicked.

To add to this, what if I as an uncle want to adopt someone?  What if we could pick the kiddo up and say "I adopt you" - that way the game could say your the adoptive father?

I've played games where I've seen people role-play this but it would be really nice if it could be notated a certain way.  I'm not sure how hard that would be to code...

Right now I think the role of a male is kinda not being recognized?  I get the most projects done as a guy for sure... and I tend to learn the most about the tech trees!  This is awesome if the family doesn't discriminate based on gender.

However, many players recently seem to be only keeping girls.  This makes sense from a end goal kind of playstyle... but I don't agree with it.  I feel like it is shortsighted and leaves out the opportunity for all players.  Too many successful women equals more endless grind, and the greater potential for famine.  Males relieve the pressure of work on the females.  In my experience, my sons are very useful!   I feel as if the random spawning mechanic coupled with 'girl only power gamers' kinda kills the coop mood for me.  I have no choice in the matter if I spawn into a "girls only" camp, I can only just run away when I'm old enough...

It seems that esp. new players in the baby pile around the fire keep saying "where's dad?"... "no father?"...

Then again, the inherent question of incest might not be assuaged by an innocent "I adopt you" kind of thing...Maybe.

What are your thoughts?

#108 Re: Main Forum » who else keeps family trees open while playing? » 2018-05-22 15:25:44

I'm too busy not dying... lol.

That's a good multitasking idea though!

#109 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Piles, mounds, and stacks for stuff. » 2018-05-22 15:15:54

That waitress picture is awesome!  She needs an apron!  Lol.

In regards to carrying space, the idea was brought up to use alternate hands in a prev. thread.

I've been able to use the non dominant hand to drag a seal pelt home.  In a later life, I saw another girl do this too.  To the best of my memory, I think I achieved this by clicking on the pelt to pick it up, then clicking on myself again like I was going to eat something.

Has anyone been able to replicate this with any other items?

Back to the stone pile functionality - do you guys think it might be overpowered to be able to carry a stack of items?  Or should it just be limited to 'stack of 3 plates' on the ground?

If I understand the game design correctly, part of the challenge of a cooperative social game would logically be time/resource management - all enhanced by the player base's ability to delegate and organize across the generations.

This inventory clustertruck might/might not be an intended obstacle.  I am not sure...

The game *is* in kind of an infancy/toddlerhood.

I started playing when onions/burdock/cactus fruit/horses were not a thing.  So, there are gradual improvements!

Sitting in the all too familiar baby pile by the fire, my aunt amused us by playing rollercoaster and strip teasing?

If I could laugh more that H E E H E... I would have...

To the Knightly family

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=100397

Your farming is epic. It was a pleasure to be a part of the finely tuned system.  The cooperation was so satisfying!

I still died as an old man, tantalizingly close to making a cistern near the farm.  So so close!

Oh well, maybe next game.

#112 Re: Main Forum » Missed Connections » 2018-05-22 14:15:33

Unnamed mother, I was happy to teach you how to use sharp stones to dig up burdock and wild carrot!

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=101422

Thank you for naming me Sam.  Thank you for genuinely doing your best to keep us all alive.  I could tell by the panicked way you scooped us all up that you desperately wanted us to thrive.  I was grabbing everything I could from the surrounding area and bringing it back to you.  Your words "good job daughter" spurred me on to do my upmost.

I came back to see you die while breastfeeding one more time.  I am sorry I could not do more!  You were amazing though... as a new player and under the pressures of being an Eve, I died much much earlier than you did.

I hope you keep playing and humbly learning.

Maybe I will be your daughter again one day!

Eve Flash and family, thanks for a good game!

I am not sure if this is the correct family line for this story... This is a story of two guys, working hard at camp.

If this is the right family, I think my mom was portugese and named me Uno.  Then as a toddler I watched her name another kid Tres... I ended up being "unnamed" because the game wanted that?  I guess.  We all worked hard and did our best.  Eventually, the pitter-patter of footfalls started to wane.  Come to find out, all of the others had perished!  I had a feeling it would be good to continue setting up the camp just for the heck of it... Sad to be without our ladies, cousin said "Sometimes it's just like that...".  Not giving up hope, I told my cousin of that one time I spawned as Eve Carris in a giant abandoned city.

At some point yesterday my blonde cousin valiantly fought off two bears while I tried to  prepping the camp for new players to stumble upon it.  The first bear circled the camp when I was organizing the carrot farm, and my cousin quickly made a yew bow and three arrows.  It was amazing!  I heard the bear groan and die after three shots.  We thought all was taken care of.  We proudly gazed at the new bear pelt in the camp.

I've always wanted to make a cistern, so I started gathering supplies.  My cousin said he believed in me!  I was happy to hear that.  I wandered off muttering about rocks...  Then I was milkweed farming and setting up a berry patch, and ended up having to hide out in the middle with my water pouches while the second bear stubbornly paced back and forth.  A golden hero came with more arrows!  My cousin is awesome.

I wish I could have lived to see an Eve wander in.  The carrot farm is all set up for you, o tired wanderer.  You are more than welcome.  Please prosper and die old/happy.

I ended up dying with the milkweed farm and berry patch all set up, but my cistern project had to wait for another life.  Quicklime and ten stones is as far as I could get.  I am so determined!

Yes!  I agree!

To add to this:  I've always wanted to be able to stack empty baskets, maybe three at a time, when out gathering reeds for the family.  That would help out so much.

Shiv sounds like the name of a murderer, lol.

The Ainu people called their kids little shits until they were 4 yrs.

Great playthrough!

I try to keep all my kids.  The boys run away more which makes me sad.  I make a point of naming them and saying "Welcome, you are loved!".

Sometimes I've gone through an entire life where all the kids run away.  Maybe I should write a story like you did.  I love the stories here.

#118 Re: Main Forum » How do I enter the game?? » 2018-05-18 14:48:13

There should be an installation .exe or .ini  somewhere...

is there a text file that says readme?

sorry that's all I can remember.

#119 Re: Main Forum » Fraction of spanws that are Eve » 2018-05-18 14:40:10

I feel like the addition of more wild food was a great step forward for Eve and the wild families.  Cactus fruit, burdock, onion... all good!

I'd love to see fishing rods for ice holes, but not sure how hard that would be to implement.

I love being able to clonk a seal on the head as a 10 yr old and drag back the fur in my opposite hand while holding a rock.  It's such a nice feeling bringing back furs to my struggling family.

This game is slowly upgrading.  This is good!

Llamas are very cute.

I am sure someone making sledges will appreciate your contribution!  Wheels sound difficult for my puny nomad brain.

#124 Re: Main Forum » I was Lyra » 2018-05-17 18:10:32

Sounds like a poignant farewell, and a good life lived.

People are so passionate about the means to an end...  I've played several games where being more open to random happenstance is actually more relaxing and rewarding.

What do you leave behind when you die

-vs-

what memorable experiences you take with you on the journey to the next life.

#125 Re: Main Forum » New Player Feedback » 2018-05-16 02:18:31

Trick, I am sorry to hear that you've had a bad first experience.

I wish I could have been your in game parent/family member/friend, preferably in a stable environment where I wasn't forced to run around Not Dying.

Some of the best experiences I've had have been when people took the time to explain to me new updates stuff, or showed me something crazy.  I was baffled on how to make something simple like a basket or a waterskin.  Then I watched someone doing this a few times.

My uncle Bob taught me how to make fire and then immediately died.  I was soo sad!!

It was crazy!
