This is like nazi level murder efficiency...

This would be nice... progress shouldn't be gated by race, but having different foods/cosmetics for race would be a nice balance.

Tool slots i just hate outright.  Every time i try to play i'm reminded why i quit.  Just now I just suicided because I ran out of tool slots cause mom needed a hoe, and smithing one took up all but 1 slot.

I couldn't even bury her, or my adopted son because apparently you need a PhD in shovels to dig a hole.  Even RP is nerfed.  Specialization over restriction would be a very welcome change.

#103 Re: Main Forum » How do you feel with the game nowdays » 2019-12-23 06:43:17

So just logged onto official to play a life... was born to a travelling mother and daughter duo.  She wanted to abandon me, but in the end i lived and followed... we made it to a town on the edge of a snow biome.  There was lots of clothes on the ground that we couldnt loot, because apparently only gingers are capable of picking things up in snow.  The town was abandoned, so i revived the berry farm, made a fire for the babies, and cooked some pies to keep us alive.  I ran out of tool slots almost instantly.  I couldnt shear the sheep, because i made compost and a fire and some pies to keep my family alive.  I couldnt loot clothing on the tile next to me because it was in the snow.

It was stupid.  Very stupid.  I quit official because of griefers, but this time around... i felt like the game itself was griefing me.

Although I guess a workaround right now would just be to change 1 pile til into deep soil, which would be a step too far imo.  2 piles was perfect sad

Look at these changes for for things to undo:

https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeD … 45050ace9a

https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeD … ca5fc4bda0

https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeD … dcb6473908

Admittedly most of this seems tangential. I'd look first at this bit:

2 transitions/849_903.txt
@@ -1 +1 @@
849 213 0 0.000000 0.000000 0 0 0 1
849 213 0 0.000000 1.000000 0 0 0 1 0 0

which changes min use fraction between row tiller and tillable row

Got it, thank you very much! <3

farming anything but milkweed is wasting time anyways.
just build roads that connect wild-berries instead.
I get that youre lazy enough beerrymunchers to want to centralize a city, but instead you can have houses along one long road, supplied by whatever is north and south of it. that road than turns into an assembly line, with long thin (milkweed) farms close to it.
a long line covers more area than a city blob.

My berry farm is for toddlers and sheep only... i live mostly off the mutton pies.. that is, until i learn how to make french fries, ketchup, tortilla chips and salsa! big_smile

Oh, and stew... I know stew is amazing, but I haven't learned it yet!  I imagine it takes veggies though.

I don't think you have to dive into the code itself.   I think it would require creating a new transition, because the old transition was deleted.   Or maybe copy the old transition from an earlier version, before the change happened?

Sorry, I would help more, but I haven't done any modding for OHOL.

Does anyone know how I can revert this on my private server?  Normally I just mess with the transitions in editor, however with soil there is a 1 pile and a 3 pile, but there is no 2pile object.  Even in game it's just listed as Fertile Soil Pile.  I also could not find a way to edit it in @ Tillable Row, because of the same reason.. it has no unique ID.  Any help would be appreciated <3

Don't think it's possible to change that specifically for one private server. You'd have to enable it in the code, and that point it's not running the same version as the main game.

That's what I gather at least, not an expertise on this stuff.

Nah, it is fine to change code on a private server as long as everyone who connects to the server is using the modified code-base.

That is how a private server works.   You don't connect to any of Jason's public servers.   You host the game on your own server to play solo or with friends or whatever.

This.. trouble is, i'm not a programmer so editing source is out of my scope.  If it's in the source, I can't fix it sad

What the game really needs but will never get is admins...

Do saplings respawn in the wild?  Or are they just gone once you loot them all?  If so, then skewers are not a viable replacement.  That said, I made an iron hoe today, it broke before i could even till half of a 5x4 field.  My stone hoe did 4x4 easy.  Thinking I'll just use stone hoe for the time being, since rope is easier to make than iron.

Yeah, I don't think he's purposely out of touch so much so as he's out of touch via just not playing the game. It's no different from how players like me who sunk 2k hours into the game can have issues understanding how new players have issues. He plays the game one way, and can't see how we see things.

As a new player, I thought it was a bug.  I came here to report it and saw topics saying its intentional.  If i hadn't come here, i would continue to think that it was bugged.   I'm all for balance changes, 1 pile, 3 pile, whichever is best i'm fine with... just having a hoe + soil do nothing feels like it's missing it's interaction.

Thanks a bunch!   I was wary of outright deleting files, afraid to break things.  It seems to work now!  <3  Much appreciated!

#113 Re: Main Forum » Removing Decay on Awbz's Precompiled Server/Client » 2019-12-19 05:00:55

Yea, trouble is I can't tell which number in the transitions text file is the timer, and editing it in the editor never seems to work.  (and yes, i clear the cache every time).  I suppose even if there is a detailed guide out there on how to use the editor that would help too, so I could get it working on that front.  As is all the changes I make have to be done in notepad for them to actually take hold.

#114 Re: Main Forum » Coming soon: voluntary leadership » 2019-12-19 04:51:42

Using a hoe on dirt with no effect is broken, regardless of how many piles are there.  It feels like a bug, even if its not.  At least make it take 2 tills, so it doesn't feel like a mistake.  Please.  Don't worry about hurting poor noobs feelings, our mothers will teach us the right amount to use, whether its 1, 2 or 3.  There are lots of things in this game that chase noobs away, tilling 2 piles of soil is not one of them.

Edit: Somehow replying to a soil topic replied to this one?  Awkward...

Hi all.. just wondering if this is possible to do, without changing the source.  I'm not a programmer and Linux/shell stuff is just too overwhelming for me, so I got my paws on Awbz' precompiled set.  I wanted to put it up to play with my friends in a little village, however even when the server is offline, decay still happens.  We had a little base, and 3 days later when we put the server back up to play, our village was in ruins.

I know it has something to do with the transitions, and i tried poking around in the editor to get rid of it, but none of it seems to work.  I tried digging through the objects/transitions folders with grepwin and while i found some of the objects i couldn't find a common denominator in which to compare to find the numerical value to edit.

Any help would be much appreciated! <3

#116 Re: Main Forum » Old Milkweed System Vs. New Milkweed System » 2019-12-17 22:49:53

I would prefer if the milkweed could be harvested 4 times.  A combination of both.. (if you notice, there are 4 fruits on each stalk).  If you only pick 1-3 it will die over time.   A better balance I think.
