Lmao yessss! I've seen people trying to put bowls on berry bushes, baby pops out, an adult standing in the berries just eating, baby pops out, kid finds a knife and stabs someone by accident, baby pops out, baby I'm holding says "need foo", baby pops out. It's insane lol
I can't man.... I'm dying! I'm still playing and trying to teach but omg lol. I cannot wait for people to get good or quit! NOOBS! YOUTUBE IS YOUR FRIEND
Behind the berry busy is awesome! I've died many times at the very last second X-D

Your pic is hilarious lolol
Yeah, every time I'm in casino town there are baskets of knives. They're locked in the vault now (when I played last yesterday anyway)
Sorry Homer, I thought I got the screenshot but it was my desktop
You saved us all from the baby monster! Curses Goddess Scholar! I hope you're in donkey town >:( The demon child who led bears into our village while holding a cactus fruit lol, then shot her own family with an arrow! But you used that same arrow and we tracked her down and you avenged us all!
Long live Homer!
Well.....X-D

I'm just here to be Eeyore it's all gonna decay by tomorrow so why bother...
Are cities falling apart?
I did not know it ...
It really sucks.
So far, when I was an orphaned son Eve, often stayed and built a farm.
So that some Eve would find her.
I thought that after some time there would be so many cities and villages on the map that every Eve could easily find a small farm.
And all this was unnecessary? It is sad.
Those days are over I'm afraid. And the map is enormous. With the small player base it would be impossible to fill it
And everyone said there was no Halloween update!
lololol
Yeah ^^^
"Building something to use in your lifetime, but inevitably realizing that, in the end, what you build is not for YOU, but for your children and all the countless others that will come after you. Proudly using your grandfather's ax, and then passing it on to your own grandchild as the end of your life nears." -J.R
Well our axes break in 5 seconds and get tossed in a trash pit. Our castles and Eve camps we leave behind are now wiped out. What's the point?? Nothing lasts! Our children get jack shit so..... The game is broken right now.
Make buildings decay over time if there's no one occupying the area for an amount of time and maintaining it. Make food and baskets, clothing etc decay if they're not used or kept indoors. Don't make whole cities and camps just disappear!
What's the point in even being an Eve? There's no point to any of it this way. Sorry, I know I'm repeating myself. I'm just so upset that this amazing, unique game has now changed so drastically! I just wanna play again
It has totally ruined the game for me and apparently many others. Some decay is fine, but whole cities and villages just disappearing?? That's really disappointing.
I miss the game so much but I just can't play it knowing everything I work so hard to build just goes away forever for no damn good reason!

Ya, the legacy aspect of the game is quite missing. Especially with the constant giving and taking away. Forcing everyone to be nomads is a failure state. We could always run naked from bush to bush, but now towns are forced to abandon their meager plots because iron is nigh impossible to find and the water runs dry. It is boring because the reality is there is no way to truly survive, just many ways to suffer and draw out the death. The people all look the same, it's been EIGHT weeks since the "friends and strangers" update which introduced TWO people sprites. They're still missing their sex/race counterparts. It's sloppy and shows how little care there is about the players or the feel of the game. I am embarrassed for the ginger boys and black girls who play this game and there is insultingly no bother to include them in the game. There have been so many great ideas posted about genetics which would make it easier from an adding content perspective to at least have people look different easily. I'm so BORED OF THE SAME PEOPLE IN THE SAME TOWNS IN THE SAME PLACES. There is no variety to where a town can settle because we're stuck getting water from duck ponds that only show up in one place. We freeze anywhere without desert. We can barely see ten feet ahead of us. Surprise you got killed by something you never saw coming. Your work was for nothing. In fact whatever you were carrying is lost because you can't even drag it back to town while you die. Trying is a burden. The legacy is a lie... and so the game is boring.
There are red headed and black characters now though
Keep in mind that, in part, everyone playing is participating in a big art project/gaming experience. I'm happy to participate for now.
Remember when we were little and we spent an hour on an nes game only to die and have to start all over? All progress was lost? No thanks. This is extremely disappointing...I loved this game so much until this stupid update
This game sucks balls in it's current state. It hasn't been fun since the "Rags to Riches" update and everything added since has just made it a TEDIOUS grind for nothing.........
No point in playing at all. IMO
Totally agree. For me, the "tedious" tasks are part of the fun of the game. There's always something to do, some way to help improve your village or camp.
When I'm born into a city, I eat berries until I'm old enough, grab a backpack of pies, say bye to mom and head out to be an "Eve". Even if I was male.
Now with the decay update though, it's all pointless to me. Nothing will ever progress. No one will ever find my little Eve camps I spent my whole game building in hopes that it could someday become a thriving community. It's all going to disappear so what's the point in even playing? EVERYTHING is tedious now with no potential reward and it's really shitty to me. It was my favorite game
Since when do dogs have lambs??? Oh, I know what you mean about lambs. . . perhaps if they only had one lamb per feeding, and stay as a baby forever until fed?
Lololol, yes! It's just gruesome and a hassle dealing with the bodies. It's improved a lot since that post though
Edit: autocorrect
Anshin wrote:Ooo make babies crawl, so even if mom has to put them down they can't run like a rabbit to starve behind a tree.
I love the growth elements of the game. The baby cries and the evolving speech is brilliant!
I really don't think breeding contempt between people who want to force you to stay and people who don't want to play in a spot is a good idea. I'm already seeing more bear pokers instead of instant suicides. All forcing people to stay is going to do is lead to people turning around and griefing your camp because you made them stay somewhere they didn't want to.
I prefer the way it is now though to how it was before hand. Removing the instant suicide means at least babies aren't dumping their bones in the middle of town and are now at least dropping off on the sides where people don't have to clean up their mess as often. Plus we get the added bonus of being able to reconnect after a server/internet hiccup which is great.
+1
As the game is right now every spawn is far away apart, bell towers are aesthetic instead of serving it's intended purpose and building roads to connect different cities is nearly impossible
Building is pointless since in a few days or most of the time a few hours the villages and cities get lost, getting back to it is impossible and we start from scratch away from all that was made before
And after sheep there is no more challenges, but at the same time it's impossible to connect big cities since they are too far appart and everything is lost in a few hours
I understand that this is to avoid spawning all the time in already built villages and big cities, there is no challenges and it gets boring, but is starting all over again the best way to avoid a steady state?

jasonrohrer wrote:There are two conflicting player emotions here:
1. Steady state is boring.
2. What's the point of playing/building stuff if nothing is sustainable and everything we do is doomed?
What if it would be easier to connect towns ( closer spawns and faster way to make roads) but the more advanced the town is, the more dangerous it gets, and what if every major advancement in the techtree that is essential for a survival of a village (or bigger village) would also at the same time bring new dangers and challenges with it
For example it's nearly impossible to have a village or big city without sheeps because they produce dungs for compost but what if rotten meat would bring diseases or sheeps would attract wolves that makes it more challenging for advanced villages to survive, this way eve runs wouldnt be affected by this difficulty as they are challenging on their own
And connecting cities would be easier if they are closer and roads faster to make but the bigger the cities get the more dangerous they become at the same time, so losing a big city or even a group of connected cities would be due to a mistake of the player dealing with the challenging situation and not just because of the built in system
This way it wouldnt be a boring steady state and at the same time everything we make isnt necessarly doomed but it would depend on the capacity of players to deal with the dangers and challenges of bigger cities
What if living in big cities is so challenging that you end up moving in another place on your own free will and not because of the game mechanic that forces you to start over again all the time
Jk Howling wrote:For example, livestock attracts predators- we all know the classic wolf and sheep problem. It'd be really interesting if sheep attracted wolves towards the town, perhaps after they've been kept for x amount of time. Maybe it can slip/break through fences and carry off lambs or something. We'd have to kill the wolf and repair the fence.
I also like the concept of disease. If food rot is ever introduced, perhaps if you don't dispose of it for a certain amount of time, the nearest players to it in a certain radius can contract illness of some sort. Maybe they can't keep food down [hunger bar reduced perhaps?] and grow a bit slower- and perhaps females can't breast feed or are infertile for the duration of it. Those affected can recover by resting near a fire for a certain amount of time [5 mins?] or applying medicine [instant]. If they go too long without resting or receiving medication, maybe they even die!
Yes exactly that kind of challenges, we would need something to protect us from wolves and diseases so we climb the techtree which would bring new dangers and difficulties
We would cycle trough periods of challenging survival where you have to do the right decisions and actions or the village can die and periods of thriving where we can do other entertaining stuff and advance to the next tech in the techtree that is necessary to the survival of the village and that brings more challenges
We already have that at the moment with the first part of the game but after sheep there is no more challenges and the reason a village dies is because we spawn too far apart and villlage gets lost and not because of mistakes made by the players
Nerfing food is one challenge that is probably neccessary but it only brings us to do more of the same (compost, farming etc) and it doesnt really add something new, unless the advancement for that food production is what brings new challenges
Imo starting all over again should be a punishment for not dealing with the situation appropriatly, a village or city becomes inhabitable because the players werent able to deal with the situation and starting over is the only option
And if there is too many villages connected for too much time and we always spawn in the same places then next apocalypse
To me the whole game seems pointless now ?
"I think we all have to look at this in a couple lenses, including Jason's.
**Gamer's View**
We get back from our workplace or school every day and want to feel like we're doing something meaningful, fun and exciting in our free time. Spending half your life in game getting a full set of clothes that you can pass on to your kids when you die and getting them the tools they need to build up things like carts was awesome, if you knew that they could make use of it going forward. It's been hashed out over and over that most people dislike how slowly the games become more and more grindy with the advent of the apocalypse, then the changes to the Eve respawning algorithm that made it very unlikely to find a formerly established dead village, to now making even our tools useless within a generation. These changes make people feel like they are getting kicked in the nuts over and over when a lot of the player base really got into the game initially and enjoyed what they thought were "core" concepts to the game like leaving a legacy for others.
@Jason, the comment you just made is not a good way to address players concerns. Being brutally honest with people is appreciated by some, myself included, but will leave a tarnish on some to not want to keep at this game and help you play test the game as it is developing. On average, before this update, user totals on servers were roughly 120 to 180 on a good day. Now only about half of that are still playing whenever I check. I fear you need to find new ways of approaching certain updates or people will experience shell shock......become emotional.... and they will move on to a different game and forget about this game. You can't just force a drug addict to cold turkey and expect good results from it usually. You have to ween them off of the drug and give them rewards and something to look forward to. Here is how I would recommend going forward:
A. Everyone likes to have "good" stuff and you can never give them too much of that. But no one likes "bad" stuff and everyone has a certain tolerance to this before they want to send their fist through a wall. So if you want to add "bad" stuff in, you really need to hide it under a nice layer of "good" stuff that will keep the drug addict from having a relapse withdrawal. Or give the bad stuff in smaller doses over the course of patches and not in massive amounts.
B. We all love this game but we want to look to the future. It's important to keep us game testers in the loop because we are also invested in this game. But we don't always know why you do things. I know I'm sure somewhere buried deep in the forums is probably some vague answers but most of us don't have the time to invest in that. You do a great job of addressing things after the facts and do a fantastic job with the limited time you have to talk with us. I know this has to be insanely stressful considering you have a family and are doing this all solo over 12 hour shifts. But maybe a big fat picture on the front of the website news page showing us what your current and future projects are would at least help us see some of the reasoning for why you might have just added some ,at least in our eyes, random change to the game. This would give us hope in the dark hours when we are given a dose of the "bad" stuff and help us get through the withdrawals.... kind of like a safety blanket.
C. Update the front page because it's a bit misleading to players. "Building something to use in your lifetime, but inevitably realizing that, in the end, what you build is not for YOU, but for your children and all the countless others that will come after you." This patch kind of put that statement to shame in it's current installment. "Proudly using your grandfather's ax, and then passing it on to your own grandchild as the end of your life nears." from front page. "Not sure what part of the trailer or marketing gave any of you the impression that you would build something in the game and it would last forever.....The fact that the game originally had things lasting forever was essentially a bug. You got used to it, and grew to like it. But it never was the long-term intent." Ouch. You did say "countless others after you". I think you did actually imply forever. Clear communication is key my good sir.
D. Hire some programmers m8. We all respect taking pride in doing something yourself, but sometimes things are greater than you and need to be allowed to grow. Getting like minded people on this project and directing them would allow this game to go from a "cult" game of 200 players to a game millions could enjoy if you are willing to turn the pride switch off. There are so many passionate people out there that I'm sure would love to work with you Jason. You are a god among geeks and many would love to work under you. "

Yes, yes, so much yes! I got this game because of the description he's insinuating never existed. You've directly quoted him and he's contradicted himself. It's his game and he can do whatever he wants with it, but isn't it about the joy and happiness it gave us? There's really no game if no one plays or buys it...
I love this game but I enjoyed it much more before I realized everything we do is now in vain. It's really pointless and no longer fun for me. I haven't played in a week and have stopped obsessively telling everyone about "MY NEW FAVORITE GAME EVER OMGGGG!!!"
I'll come back later and see if he's taken it back in the direction it was originally intended to go in (legacy, tech advancement, lineage pride etc)
Yeah this is currently happening to me for the first time and it's really making me angry. I've died in all 7 games i've tried playing due to lag.
Sometimes I can move around and everyone else is frozen, then they'll unfreeze and we zoom over. it's ridiculous
It's really depressing seeing dead dogs, their puppies and lambs everywhere
