What are you even talking about?   The sequel to You are Hope is a different game from OHOL.

Yes, but both games are available on PC. I thought that Jason didn't want Dual Decade to make a PC competitor to OHOL. Both games look and act similar.

Yes, but I thought part of that agreement involved not porting the game to platforms that OHOL was already on?

I was the first view on these 3 videos.

Well, they're unlisted, so... wink

With the state the OHOL has been in for a while, I'm hoping that the You Are Hope sequel will smash it out of the ballpark. No war swords or extreme ways to grief!

This is not You are Hope, but a new game that Dual Decade is working on. It will be released in 2021 on PC, iOS and Android. Dual Decade released more detailed info shortly after the first announcement. They will be opening up the game to beta testers at some point in the future.

Are you excited for the announcement? We will have to see how the new game compares to You Are Hope and even One Hour One Life. After all, it'll be released on PC. smile

It is time to do something big. While we love You are Hope, we have long dreamt of a game that simply won’t fit in the YAH mold. So we started from scratch again and have been working on this project in secret since 2019, first a little bit, then increased the effort more and more. There is still a lot of work left until we feel that it’s good enough, but we have gotten far enough to be sure that our vision holds water and that we will succeed in making it happen.

A similarity with YAH will be the cute characters (though with thicker arms and legs) and that a life span has a start and an end. There will also be a vast tech tree, though not the same as in YAH. In fact, the tech trees will not be the same on a tropical island, as on an island in a temperate or polar climate zone. The tech tree will not be constrained to the A+B=>C+D formula though. We will have the freedom to go beyond that.

There will also be a lot of new mechanics that don’t exist in YAH, but we will not reveal all at once. Suffice to say that the learning curve will be much easier on new players, but the challenge to experienced players will increase a lot further, so the game will offer more variation and you won’t be “finished” just because you have created an advanced city. Even death may not be an absolute end anymore… maybe there is a way to reconnect to earlier lives…?

We have chosen a mix of 2D and 3D art for the new game. A great game deserves a great appearance, don’t you think?

The game will be multiplayer and multi platform, so you can use PC or mobile devices to play on the same servers. The game controls will be the biggest difference between the platforms. (The PC game controls will of course be new, but so will the touch controls - we are doing something different than the “swipe to object” control you know from YAH).

The graphics are all new for this game, including the character bodies, but we will include the hair and faces of some of the beloved characters in YAH (the Dual Decade ones). There will not be any genitals showing.

I can also add that this game is not set on Earth, so while the characters are people, they are not necessarily humans…

Finally: we will not stop updating YAH, but we will stick mostly to content updates and bug fixes there in the future. Work on new game mechanics will mostly happen in the new game. YAH remains a really good game, so please keep enjoying it!

Presuming that the mineshaft comes from You Are Hope, aren't they supposed to be distancing themselves from OHOL after that argument from a year and a half ago or so, as to make sure that the game has no association with Jason Rohrer, nor any people making that connection? If they're creating new assets with the already existing assets from OHOL, wouldn't that be against what Jason Rohrer exclaimed when things went south?

They got forked out of updates (basically after a certain version they could no longer use the same version of the game.) Follow that up with they're also working on YaH2 and soon you'll have a better ohol than the original.

Yes, but weren't they supposed to move away from using anything that looks like it came out of OHOL? Even with all of the warnings, many people still associate You Are Hope with the mobile version of OHOL and Jason Rohrer.

I'm excited for the sequel though. It restores my faith in this niche genre. smile

I came upon this image while browsing Google. Am I missing something here? I don't remember any mineshafts or whatever being added recently, yet it looks like it came straight out of One Hour One Life. Could someone please clarify? Where did the image come from? This is extremely confusing to me...

We want to start advancing in every aspect of our life, and to look at this game as a mystery to be solved not just starving simulator, each activity we do must advance, we want books we want establishments as libraries, hospitals, schools, factories, that allows everyone to learn at the same time and not only one person carrying up the whole server becuase he's the only one who has the patience of learning everything by himself!

Not to mention that society is still extremely primitive. There isn't even an established economy!

On top of that, the technology tree hasn't advanced for god knows how long. Protests exist in an attempt to change something that is disliked. Some protests have no option but to take severe action.

I agree that this game isn't too newbies friendly and I think it should be.

OHOL mobile version is doing it good. They have a recipe book built in game, people can learn things using it.

Here is a random video I just found. A newbie trying to make a pie using this recipe book, you can see how does it work.
https://youtu.be/MMYympeHXGw?t=1784 watch from 29:44.

He didn't click any item in the recipe book there, but all items that you can see in it are clickable, so you could basically check how to make an item from scratch just by reading the recipe book.
I really wish we had the same thing in main OHOL.

People are still mixing up One Hour One Life with You Are Hope?

I purchased One Hour One Life (from the official website) sometime in July of 2018. A couple months after that, I stopped playing the game, but I want to get back into playing it again. There is just one problem...

I had One Hour One life installed on my laptop. That is no longer the case. For whatever reason, my Windows user account was completely reset and the game was taken with it. I tried to go to the official website to see if I could download it again, but I couldn't find anything.

How can I download the game again? I had plans to get the Steam version after realizing you could get it for free if you had the version from the official OHOL website.

Help would be appreciated. smile

It was a big box, but small enough that I could travel from one end to the other in s single lifetime, even if I was on foot.  A horse made traveling the rift a breeze.  My only regret was not being able to rest my horse anywhere except town.   I'd love it if horses could be anchored on rocks or trees.

I liked the road network and the Tarr monument shrine.

I liked starting a cult to worship a juniper tree sapling.  It was funny and sad at the same time.

What positive experiences did you have while living in the Rift?

The Tarr Monument was nice. That’s about it.

+1 for less bear caves, feathers from domestic goose and hungry work for all trees including juniper

-1 for the constant dramatic tone (most of the major issues are going to be fixed at some point)

Jason may solve some particular small set of issues, but won't really address core problems.  This game has been on consistent decline in terms of playerbase, and there exist a small handful of good updates since December.  Most of the technology wasn't useful when introduced.  An apoclaypse for no reason, which were never consistent with people playing for their lineage.  Then we had swords.  People coming together and leading to griefer Eves.  People complained, rightfully, about such as not consistent with a game about parenting and civlization *building* (at least raidos were compatible with building, even though they were NOT about parenting in the sense of making better lives for in game children).  The genetic score system had something to it, but not much.

Oh, and Jason had already seen evidence that bringing people together so that towns could easily get found by Eves lead to mass griefing.  Yet, he implemented a system that made such even more likely to happen.  People told, AND SHOWED, him that the problem was griefing.  And he responded by insisting that the problem could be solved by some time constraint, indicating that he didn't get the problem.

The whole rift idea also indicates a problem, since it limits potential growth.  The finite map idea never made a lick of sense, because of that limiting of potential player growth.

The game has continually declined in terms of player count: https://steamcharts.com/app/595690#All (even the green there will change shortly due to the recent dropoff).  And it dropped drastically recently:

http://northcountrynotes.org/latestGraph2.png

And instead of finding such sad, or taking such as a moment needed for self-reflection, Jason just laughed off such a precipitous drop.

On top of that, Jason should have hired help long ago, and I doubt he'll do that at any point in time.

And -1 for a positive attitude.  There is no cause for optimism when you have consistent negative information coming in (see above).  At least not with serious change that caters to players' preferences.  Something that Jason has repeatedly spit in the face of, for example, with his reluctance to implement a choice screen for players, showing that he disrespects player's making their own choices.

Dodge wrote:

Keep in mind that appart from behing passionate it's also his livelihood, you have to pay the bills some way at the end of the day.

Jason wrongfully believes that he's the greatest game designer ever and has only said that he will continue development to the end of 2019.  He just does what he did before.  He just lives off of the proceeds of his last game and makes a new one, anticipating the next one will work out well for him financially.  Doing that may even interest him more, as he certainly doesn't like listening to opinions of his playerbase as he has repeatedly made clear, and making a new game doesn't have a playerbase to listen to.  No, there is no reason to believe that Jason has to fix the game with respect to core issues.

And he's probably not interested in doing such either, because it would mean that he would have to give up on concepts as viable, recognize inconsistencies in the game, listen to the playerbase, respect their preferences, and no doubt hire help.

I find it funny that we didn’t really pass the Iron Age and that all the stuff shown in the official trailer for the game will probably never see the light of day. Didn’t Jason say he’d continue to develop the game until at least 2021? Why couldn’t he live up to that statement?

I find it funny that the subreddit (which is unofficial as far as I’m concerned) has significantly better mods than the official OHOL forum. People are free to criticize OHOL on the subreddit. Also, considering the mods for the subreddit don’t get paid and the mods for the official OHOL forum do, that might explain all the power trippyness and overall attitude/behavior.
