For those of you who aren't aware, this week's update is dogs. In the live dev changes, Jason has added multiple breeds including the pit bull. But he also has made pit bulls the only breed that is deadly and can be shot by default. It upsets me that this bias against the breed is being added into the game.
This link https://www.livescience.com/27145-are-p … erous.html gives facts, studies, and explanations as to why pit bulls are perceived to be so bad. In fact there are multiple breeds of dogs that cause more injuries than others, including the German Shepard which is also being added into the game. And yet, only the pit bull is unique in the deadly by default aspect.
Dogs who are more aggressive and likely to cause injuries are more likely to have an owner that has been convicted of violent crimes. This is a fact that affects all "aggressive" breeds and it means they have also most likely been abused. So yes, they do cause harm, but that can be attributed to their environment and owner rather than their breed alone.
So I am making this post to ask Jason to please consider removing this from the game because I don't think pit bulls should receive this kind of undeserved prejudice.
I wouldn’t be opposed to having a temporary ban for players (maybe like a week) whose curse score reaches a certain height (ex. 50 curses) because you know the only thing they want to do is not cause saucy drama, but destroy other’s fun. In my opinion, just because they bought this game doesn’t mean they should be immune to punishment.
Griefing will not go away, but I think we should take more actions to restrain them instead of leaving it solely up to the players, who protect cursed babies and covet being cursed for the sake of being special.
I really do hope you actually do something more than just making a marked baby more noticeable otherwise this situation is not going to get better.
You and I both know the forums are a mess that discourages new player to join. No one wants to read through ten different threads to find one relevant to their interests. Not many people use the forums and adding a few categories could help bring back the appeal.
Have u tried redownloading it? If that doesn't fix it you join the discord and you'll be able to receive help more quickly.
You may or may not have seen the twins update, and you may or may not know how to use it. So I'm posting this as a way to help those who want to play with their friends but don't know how.
First off, make sure your server settings are matching. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you don't need to worry about this step. If you are connecting to different servers or you have the usecustomaddress set to different numbers, you're gonna have a bad time.
Next, open the game and click the friends button under the login. You can play with up to three different friends as quadruplets, but this does not act like searching for friends. So if you do not have three friends to play with and click the quads, you're going to be staring at a waiting screen for a long time.
You need to have a password that you and your friends share. No, you can't make up your own password, it's a set list. So just make it easier for everyone and click the generate password button.
Then make sure you all have the same matching password and that the correct button is selected for the number of people. Click play and don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit to get in.
Disclaimer: Do not be surprised if you and your friends are actively abandoned. Taking care of one kid is hard enough, don't blame your poor mother for not wanting to deal with four.
I think there should be an indicator telling you if someone has cursed you and who, to prevent griefers cursing as babies, starving themselves, and repeating. At the very least it could let you be aware of bad babies and know not to feed them.
A general karma indicator might also be nice but I think if we don't know if we've been cursed, it paralyzes game play since people will abandon babies with black text that didn't even know they had black text.
I'm getting stuck on this part in the compiling from source instructions:
"After installing the required packages on your system, download the UnixSource bundle and extract it:
tar xzf OneLife_Live4_UnixSource.tar.gz"
I'm just not sure what to do or if I've even properly downloaded the UnixSource bundle.
Edit: I just skipped that part, followed the rest of the instructions and set up the server but when I get into the game my actions are in slow motion.
Also, how would I find my IP for my server?
The wiki has a Starting Guide for new players:

I understand not wanting to read a bunch of stuff but you have to start off somewhere. You'll eventually have to memorize the recipes and recognize priorities so it'd be better to start off with the basics, get into a game and recognize what you don't know how to do, then look it up or ask players how to do them.
You could also try the the easy mode servers where you'll have more time to learn with less priority on food.

I think it might be a good idea to just have the last name given to you as soon as you're born. That way at least you won't be completely nameless even if you aren't given a first name.
So he can't change his mind about how he wants his game to be played? Those posts were about a month apart and he explained why he changed his mind. Whether or not the players asking for it changed his mind, it's still his game and I don't blame him for testing out what makes the game play feel right and figuring out what doesn't. With all the plans he aspires to add into the game, is he not allowed to make mistakes, backtrack, and change the game to what he thinks is a satisfactory product?
Hello! I was your generation 17 descendant, Kyle, and we were doing absolutely fine and could almost certainly have kept right on going if we didn't run up against a server update and stopped having babies. I can also testify that a few of the murders towards the end weren't really murders, so much as they were the result of people realizing we were doomed as a town due to aforementioned lack of babies and deciding to go out playing with knives.
By my time, it was a really big town with a lot going on. We had multiple people working full-time just on pie baking.
Aw, that's unfortunate but it makes me happy that you all didn't die because of lack of food.
This is my family tree:
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=128285
I was Erika Miles, daughter of Eve Miles who died and was reborn as my son Henry. As the only daughter who survived into adulthood, I was so proud to watch my family grow. Every 20 minutes or so I would check in and see new generations and my new family members. This is probably the most amount of people that have descended from me and there were only like 7 murders, so I consider this overall positive. I wished I could join you all and see how far you had progressed.
Thanks for making me smile throughout the whole day today.
How do i know what file to share? There are 18. I have had it happen recently.
They are listed in order, with the larger numbers being the most recent. You can also probably check the timestamps on the files.
I think that the current progression scale doesn't look like a jagged tooth saw, but more of a thinner spiked graph. It feels like there's no sort of technology checkpoints to help players take the next step up and stay there. I think it forces players to either scrape together all of their resources into this one thing and then have nothing left to continue progressing or to take the safer route by repetitive game play like farming. But like jason says, only so many generations can stay at one level before things start to run out and fall apart. But there currently aren't things in the game to combat the seriously punishing consequences for either stagnating or running out of materials because you used it all on progressing.
