I think even with single combat the murder rate would be quite low if the attacker is slowed down a little bit and the attacked one gets a clear warning. Additionally if also new players should be more save who dont see all this warnings, then by instinct the player could be made to run away from the attacker if he has no weapon unless he cancels it manually.  But in the current posse system it works exactly the other way round, organized attackers can always catch the victim since they are faster.

we have tried warning and slow in the past , didn't worked , bows have a lot range and people were still standing without running someone could killed them even with the knife. In fact the number that Jason showed last week are with this system.

orginased pose people should be able to kill cause then the griefer will be able to roam free damaging the cities infrastructure or be annoying in general.

the autorun you propose has not been tried. but Jason doesn't want a single person to be able to hunt the others without society's consent.
Effectively Jason wants safety in numbers and no killing without society consent.

I like the Gene score idea on leadership it will result in a better leadership. It removes players from the burden to chose a good leader though.

#128 Re: Main Forum » How do your lifes feel in the leadership update? » 2020-05-11 08:10:01

oh thanks Shida smile , It was a nice experience for me too.

Yeah, Eddy incorporated back to society and also made yum foods. He even helped me when I asked him and I ended up saving his life when he got bitten by mosquitoes.

Did Teddy manage to bring oil after my death, I had sent him on a quest that he was doing pretty well till I die.

I become a leader pretty much every life and people are very co-operative and Happy to help. Whenever I ask, They do important staff for the society and I thank them for that.
I would like to make a topic for players that become leaders to find better ways to organize our villages and talk to people.
Also, any feedback from followers on leadership is appreciated.

#129 Re: News » Update: In Perpetuity » 2020-05-11 07:46:21

Yes leadership system is not impenetrable but it can not be penetrated without the consent of the people in the village.
With all the other systems it doesn't matter if you consent or not you just get killed.

I just spawn in a black family (Sylvia Garden) who used The crown to present the Leader.
In my lifetime they swapped it 2 times immediately when the leadership changed.
Because I was helping the previous leader she choose me as the hier and gave me the crown.
I kept organized the village and in my way through I needed an explorer. Though many were helping to do jobs I asked, none presented as an explorer. So after a while, I randomly talked to a small girl and she had zoom, so I gave her the quest.
"When older find oil to retrieve the mining engine of the south abandons village."

We had already our own engine So I wanted to make a tiny royal property next to the well to store it there. But clutter and an unmovable stew was blocking the spot.
So Ordered the village to come to eat Stew to unblock it. It was amazing half the village came to eat it! It gone without a result though as the stew was a pumpkin gustard tongue oops!
I go fed a duck for an egg, and surprise surprise though the others left going back to their lives the little girl was now helping me making dought to remove the gustard!
After some tries, I managed to think a way to make a 1 tile fence (3x3) next to a shrine to put a box next to the shrine so it is accessible only inside the fence. It wasn't the best design but I had limited time and area. I was old now, the girl was there helping and commenting on my work so I followed her as she seemed the best option I had. I gave her my knife BUT I forgot to give her my crown and my property tongue
I died inside my property though so I hope She can take it after.

All around good stuff, I work with leaders or become one in every life and it is very nice. in the previous life yesterday as a follower I made a royal property for oil and engine that it got expanded and lived for over 40 generations! (Moni family) It might still be there.

If you want a different life go to your leader as a kid and ask him for a job or a quest. It will probably result in an interesting life.
Leaders are nice to work and bond with.

Hope you had a good rule Joise! smile
Did you get the crown?

20 Yum is too easy for me never a problem.
If you dont use dry corn and rabbit pouch to make yum food you are doing it wrong.

I will give you the situations to choose for yourself.

you are in a village of 10 and you know that in 30 minutes 4 griefers will come to kill your village. (1 from your own family and 3 strangers.)
You are there to defend your village from the raid. With what tools would you be most likely to have the smallest casualties?

Early game mechanics knife kills at will

later game mechanics cooldown and swords

Pose system

Leadership

Remember You are there to protect the village and you have the time to do anything. you can make knives for everyone, you can make swords for everyone you can teach them how to pose or straight up Become the Leader. Which mechanic will make sure you will have the least casualties?

Being a leader makes the whole Village! immune to the 4 griefers while you can kill immediately the 3 of them. It is so simple If you want to protect the village you know can, just become the leader.
It is a matter of player's organization skills now. Whatever you did in the previous mechanics a village that would be hit by 4 organized griefers would be all Dead or inflicted heavy damage

PS: griefers will also use all the tools available you can't outcompete in an arms race, they will all have pads swords and bows. The only thing that they won't have is a kingdom of 10 people.

You have an hour to seek and elect a good leader and have to repeat the process once one dies. This is tedium.

You don't need to elect a good leader to avoid being killed by a griefer, your best approach is to leave it random so Old fags get the leadership
None griefer will wait 50 minutes to get a chance! to be able to kill someone and if they do they will kill one or two at most.

If you wanna elect a leader that's fine also you will do it Once or twice per life. Just pick someone over 30 that is doing something good and leave it at that.

#135 Re: Main Forum » Town Jobs, Professional Standards, guilds? » 2020-05-09 22:30:05

The leader in late-game hast to have a property exactly next to the well ( yes kill those bushes), that contains:
a box with kero/oil tanks, engine, and a horse cart with tires.

the leader must be responsible for the engine protection and keeping water production.
He must assign a person with the role to gather oil or Trade thus he must always have a horse in his possession to give it to the assigned trader.

#136 Re: News » Update: In Perpetuity » 2020-05-09 19:40:24

even after seeing Bobo's video.

I like the leadership update, If we elect shity leaders shit will happen. Bad choices must not go unpunished.

The nice about the election is that if you play it right you will be safe no matter your skill, none system could guaranty you that before, not even the solo kill that required skill and good ping.

The leader of the village is an important position and people should be careful about it.

All that we need to stop "a bobo" is a good or an old random leader.
We have the tools now, it's on us how we use them.

#137 Re: News » Update: In Perpetuity » 2020-05-08 13:18:00

Just played an awesome life with two very active leaders, in a black family town that had a lot of yum foods, even a Feast.
Tons of Iron, a fenced engine ready to be used when newcomen well dry, fenced milkweed area, late-game clothes.
Our leaders guided us on what to do and what we need.
Leadership and inheritance played right can have a very good outcome.

#138 Re: Main Forum » New idea for killing » 2020-05-07 20:52:46

that's is a great idea! definitely a step in right direction.
I really like the homeland proposition, It solves both the problems Jason mentioned.

If griefers band together into a group of 4 they will have different homelands probably so at least 1 of their members would be an easy target.

#140 Re: Main Forum » New idea for males: one hour half life » 2020-05-05 08:43:40

Jason, your numbers are probably skewed, can /dies be removed from your calculations?

I got the data from the server for 5/may/2020 Monday
http://publicdata.onehouronelife.com/pu … Friday.txt
(removing the disconnects, 99.7% of them are /dies)

male average:     28.9
Female average:  26.9

then data from 4/may/2020 Sunday

male average: 33.9
female average: 33.6

data here

Yip yip for slow! +1 It would help a lot especially with the vanilla field of view that it is common to lose track of your target.

#143 Re: Main Forum » Has anyone tried using fences like Jason says? » 2020-04-27 11:33:05

I have used a lot of fences throughout the game.

For offspring/gene score interest,
Clothes storage
personal-storage.png

Yum storage, animal Safehouse
yum-animal-safehouse.png

For village security,
Engine safehouse
engine-safehouse.png

For better use of the village's resources
Carrot warehouse (compost and animal feed production
carrot-storage.png

Berry monopoly and carrot warehouse( ensures that berrymunchest won't eat berries wasting village water, A person that works on it will have to provide the village with animal feed and compost )
berry-monopoly-carrot-storage.jpg

The carrot warehouse and Especially the Berry monopoly required someone to Be working on them as they are village utilities and not personal storage.

ALL OF These are useful for their purpose But they require work. The work they require maybe is too much for the people and don't care about the village/family so much to do this work. In the end, the functionality they help with might not be Important enough.

Berry muncher waste water but does this bother us enough?
Your kids need clothes but they can live without them as well or make their own. Even giving them clothes is not so important in the end some of them just die clothed anyway.
Your village needs animals to survive but if someone kills them there are enough more to take from the wilderness.
Engine is useful but eh most people dont break them and many villages don't reach this point anymore.

#144 Re: Main Forum » I Griefed a Berry Spreader, It was so enjoyable. » 2020-04-25 21:08:55

The YUM cult has started!

Remember the berries I tried to fence off to kill them? After some hours I rejoined they had got a complete fence with a door and a trade box big_smile
I Inherit the property and I extend it for carrot storage!
Luke my worker helped me made it but he died from overwork in the process, Thanks Luke, you will be remembered!
I inherited to Jest also a Yum follower and she found a hier as well.

LONG LIVE the YUM! big_smile

#145 Re: Main Forum » I Griefed a Berry Spreader, It was so enjoyable. » 2020-04-25 17:11:14

xaxaxa he didnt cursed me Mr.Gold and I tried to talk him a little. Talking is not always enough Destiny some of them are deliberately eating the same food over and over. But I agree with you, I always ask my kids if they know about yum and I use the 3 minute raisin time to explain them about Yumming and teach them how to make milk and yum it through Pouch.

To continue with my Cultural war experiences.
I Spawn again in this town after some hours, they had kept the Corn Farm big_smile
....the berries had spread sideways now though counting 32 in numbers -_-
I emptied the nine on the left, (always secured the bowls with carrots) and tried to fence them off to die peacefully but the fence had 1 little hole and after some minutes guess what. A Berry Spreader went all the way around to soil them and water them -_- YOU HAVE ALREADY 20+ berries god damn!

Sometimes, Testo, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs.
So I decided that These people need the shovel!
Next life I am starting a cult, The only berries in the town will be fenced! :}
The Culture war has started!

I am not a griefer, I have never grief before actually, but I might start to.

Born as Applewhite.
Early ginger town, Deep well running low.
Had pig and cow but no milk or carnitas.
21 berry bushes. No berries on them, all 21 Vigorous, cooldowns ticking to produce more though.
We had enough food, stews and pies.

A man Starts soiling the area over the berries. Guess what he would plant...MORE Berries of course cause all the others are in cooldown and there is no berry for the berry munchers to eat. I Quickly grab a corn, make Kernels and as the man tiles the 12-row of soil, I spam all the rows with corn!
12 planted corn Tiles! food for ages!
He was mad, and I was happy!
Milk, butter, popcorn and carnitas will feed this village and the berry munchers will evolve or die.

In which way we could force the berry munchers to stop eating berries? I don't care about efficiency just force them to change their habit and efficiency will come later.
The Goal is for the berry munchers to Evolve or Die.

#147 Re: Main Forum » We can't keep alive a family of 6 » 2020-04-24 23:03:51

I really want to try one thing for late game, fenced berry bushes tongue

the only way to survive is yum, see it for yourselves. https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9546
Late game you essentially waste food if you eat something Twice!

#148 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Fixing Bears » 2020-04-24 22:54:58

the auto spawning bears would actually make them a controlled Natural threat instead of a griefer exploit.
Very nice I like it!
