#151 Re: Main Forum » New towns getting kerosene and engines before even making newcomen » 2020-04-09 09:39:18

Problem with just making a Diesel well immediately after the deep well is that you miss out on a bunch of kerosene-free water from the Newcomen, which there is absolutely no reason to. People who upgrade to Diesel before having Newcomen are lowering the towns life span. I mean the Diesel well isn't even an upgrade anymore, since it gives the exact same amount of water as the regular Newcomen.

#152 Re: Main Forum » My thoughts » 2020-04-09 00:09:32

I'm mostly indifferent when it comes no solo, but am still slightly in favor of it, because of just how much it has decreased killings. That being said I certainly wouldn't protest loudly against solo killing coming back, but I'm not especially craving its return either.

But when it comes to the killer countdown I'm more in favor of it staying. I want it to stay solely for the reason that auto aim and instant kill is fundamentally broken. If the killer countdown was to vanish then the combat needs an overhaul. Instant kill with auto aim is just in no way fair, since there's absolutely nothing the target can do about it. At least now the victim has time to run away from the aggressor.

Never seen an accidental quadruple post before.

If you have hetuw mod emotes will stay until you die if you type the emote like normal, instead of using a hotkey.

Well, maybe you should learn chess a bit more wink

I was very clearly mocking Spoonwoods stupid point, that Jason’s intentions somehow has a say in how people should play the game. But I guess sarcasm doesn’t translate well into text.

The reality is that the [public] low-pop servers are a vestigial edge case. They are there with hopes and dreams of this game ever getting popular enough to fill them all (3000 simultaneous players, or whatever it would take). They are not there to serve as a low-pop experience. They should probably be removed to save money (and will eventually, long term), but for now, they are cheap enough to keep around. Also, because the dream of 3000 players isn't dead just yet.

Guess that’s checkmate guys. You can’t use the other servers like that, because Jason didn’t intend them to be used that way.

I manually checked the life logs and found that Spoonwood hasn't played the game since January 31st, at least on bigserver2 (no way am I checking all low pop servers that'll take way too long). He doesn't appear in the life logs after that date.

I would think that some of the money that people use to buy games on Steam goes to Steam, and the other part of the money goes to the people/person/corporation who released the game on Steam.  Are you suggesting that if, for example, someone bought the game from Steam between November of 2018 and October of 2019 for 20 U. S. dollars, and that person emails Jason, that Jason will refund that person the full 20 U. S. dollars?

All I was saying is that you can still get a refund if you bought the game on Steam. I have no idea if he only refunds his cut from the game sale or the entire amount the customer paid on Steam. I'm also kind of unsure if Jason can detect if someone bought the game during a sale or not. Maybe Jason can chime in on this.

#158 Re: Main Forum » How inefficient is watering the cow? » 2020-04-06 14:14:36

Technically speaking it's kinda inefficient on a water standpoint, but what you use of water saves you time. The maximum amount you can milk a cow for on bowl of corn is three times. 1 corn is worth 0,25 bowl of water, since 1 bowl of water gives you 4 corn total. If you milk the cow using 1 corn + 2 water, the water cost for 3 buckets of milk will be 2,25 bowls of water. That's not terrible but it's a bit cheaper to do it with corn exclusively. If you milk a cow 3 seperate times using corn you gain 3 buckets of milk for 0,75 bowls of water.

So you save 2,25-0,75=1,50 bowls of water if you do it the slow way. Of course by doing this you also add extra soil and iron cost to the equation, since you are now using almost an entire corn plant to get the same amount of milk you can obtain with 1 corn.

I'm honestly not sure what you should do to be most efficient. Maybe someone else who can take all extra costs into account has a better idea, but I think if you remove the time aspect, then using 3 corn for 3 buckets of milk is probably better.

Edit: having three cows to save time might be the better solution tbh and milking each of them once might be the most cost efficient method.

That Jason ends up feeling the need to so that suggests that this whole post was foolish.  Additionally, who knows if she bought the game from Steam or from Jason's website?

#160 Re: Main Forum » What is griefing ? » 2020-04-04 20:07:44

Elsayal wrote:

what is a griefer ?

griefer
/ˈɡriːfə/
noun   INFORMAL
(in an online game or community) a person who harasses or deliberately provokes other players or members in order to spoil their enjoyment.
"a class of entrepreneurs is emerging who see griefers not just as an annoyance but as a potential source of lost revenue"

So it's all about intent. If someone messes up on accident and it annoys you, they are not a griefer.

As for your examples:

1) Depends on his intent, but he might just be someone who gets enjoyment from talking in this game and not working. Considering that just talking and eating isn't a very effective griefing strategy I would heavily presume that he's not a griefer.

2) Again the guy just eating might just get a different kind of enjoyment and has no bad intentions really. Though that obviously depends on what he intended, which we can only speculate about. Tbh I'd say your daughter was more of a griefer, since she had some bad intent behind doing the same thing, but not very serious griefing if you would even classify that as griefing.

Elsayal wrote:

Is a only eating player a griefer ?

Depends on how they do it, and again obviously intent. Someone just RP'ing around a fire trying to have fun, while also basically just eating wouldn't be a griefer. While someone who fills a backpack with pies and then deliberately wastes them by doing a lot of unnecessary hungry work would most likely be a griefer. Depleting the towns food on purpose.

Elsayal wrote:

Isn't it something far different from destroying a diesel engine or bringing bears in a town ?

For your examples, obviously. I doubt either of those two you mentioned had bad intent behind their actions. But food griefing like I mentioned earlier would still be griefing, just at a lower scale.

#161 Re: Main Forum » Scrap the Scrap Engine » 2020-04-03 23:09:27

I don’t think that a scrap box is an inherently bad idea mind you, but the way it’s being implemented here is not great. If you gain the ability to scrap an engine it just absolutely shouldn’t be this easy.

The scrap box could potentially be a good way to fix some of the broken scrap recipes that give you back one scrap rather than the actual amount of steel the scrapped item is worth. Example: how about you make the Diesel piston head scrappable in a scrap box for 6 scrap steel instead in a scrap bowl to only get 1 scrap steel back?

DestinyCall wrote:

Or add elder takedown notice equivalent requirement, so you need at least one old dude to agree that it makes sense to destroy a whole engine.

This would at least make sense, since scrapping an engine isn’t something people should just be able to do on a whim. Also the fact that you only get scrap steel instead of steel bars makes this absolutely terrible.

Griefer: removes the engine from the well. Makes a scrap box. Scraps the towns only engine, which undoes lifetimes of work in just a few minutes.

Engineer: Has to rebuild the engine from scratch now since the griefer just scrapped the towns only engine. Not only that, but before he can begin making engine parts he has to reforge all the steel scrap into steel bars before he can start. All this work will most likely take more than half a lifetime.

So scrapping an engine takes about a minute, but rebuilding said engine takes at least 30 minutes. Seems very fair and balanced.

I obviously didn't play enough CCM to get a feel for mining there but how did it feel?

It worked exactly the same as the old mines did. Attach a stanchion kit on an "iron" pit and you then pull out ressources until the mine breaks. Only difference is that you get different materials depending on the biome you are in, instead of just iron. It honestly didn't feel that great since you mostly ended up with a bunch of trash (flat stones, round stones, flint chips and big rocks) and barely any useful ressources (iron). You could get a ton of gold in the tundra though. Even when the mine was in the mountains you barely got any copper out of the deal.

Here's the chance chart for the mining if you're curious.

F8L40gX.png

As you can see no matter where the mine is you have 28 % chance to get trash out of the deal (since those ressources are easily found elsewhere).

So long story it didn't feel great. Too many useless side products. I preferred the old mines tbh.

#165 Re: Main Forum » Update broken cant get more iron » 2020-03-29 11:01:32

#167 Re: Main Forum » 1 iron = 10 pip hungry work » 2020-03-27 23:15:09

Hmm. I've checked one tech and I'm probably gonna change my assessment of the situation. Since my post Jason has added new stuff to the iron mine. You get 5 free iron from the vein, just like it was when I posted this, but after you dig the vein with a pick you get approximately 11 more from the shallow vein. And it's first after it becomes a mine that it becomes hungry work. This means that you can get about 16 iron before hungry work becomes a thing. This is at least a lot more tolerable than what was offered at first.

#168 Re: Main Forum » Are you excited about the update ? » 2020-03-27 22:16:08

10 hungry work for 1 iron is real exciting

This is just to inform ppl who don’t check Onetech and github about this awful change.

In the next update, every iron gained from an iron mine is a hungry work action. Mind you that this is in tandem with a bunch of nerfs to wild food, so good luck mining in the future. Because it will take a lot of food just to mine a few iron. Seriously hope Jason changes his mind on this, because everyone can see at a glance how truly awful this change is.
