a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Wine is totally a drink of civilization, not a drink of barbarians. Thats why when you think of wine, you think of Greece, Rome, and the old holy churches. Is the bottle bit a little silly? Sure. Would I refund the game over it? Nah.
Glass got another use (doubt its going to be the last) and you only see the negatives? Also, the game got super easy, and the one difficult part of the game you now take this much offense to? It's not even a NEEDED item.
Who hurt you tipy?

They already have snowcastles, total control of oil, salt(read kraut/tattoo/icecream/roses/candles), sealskins and gold...
Going to be honest all the shit that you said gingers have is irrelevant as fuck and has not even gotten to because everyone is in deep well tech. No one uses Snowcastles except for fishing, No one has gotten to Oil, Kraut is a yum food doesn't need to be made, ice cream might as well be deleted because its not even made at all, tatoo's still haven't seen it widespread or WANTED by everyone, roses what? only for fishing which not that many people do way better food alternatives, candles no one even gets to that tech or cares to make it. Sealskin is the only thing that's is "worth" in the biome and its still not worth as much as rubber which controls water/tech. Gold..... No ones cares about gold unless for bell towers which haven't been constructed.
Wut? We got to oil yesterday, maybe even a few engines.
The arctic is the most neglected biome, but I doubt its done being fleshed out. It might seem bad to fix this now, but it has to get fixed sooner, rather than later if there is going to be improvement and more things added to the biomes.
You can also do this to mark the tarry spot as the arctic specialists.
I think one of the easiest ways we can connect right now might be by cut down pine trees. Cut pines are a great path towards civilization, and I can usually follow them well. If we cut west we will give greater chance for future eves and her kids to find us. If we cut east we allow for older settlements to find us.
What you wil need: Two axes. I made both mine.
Step one. Travel south west from your village and cut down 2 or 3 pine trees every time you see them. Cut for about 300 or 400 tiles.
Step two. Go north of your ending point until the home marker needle is facing directly east, and proceed to cut 2 or 3 pine trees at a time until you make it home.
Step three. Cut 2 or 3 trees while you travel northwest for 300 or 400 tiles.
You made need 3 axes, but I did it fairly well with 2.
If it was a day later it might have been a bit better. It sounds like steam did ya dirty by not having it go right up until the autumn sale on the 22nd.
This map is a heavy throwback now.
Now you newer guys get to experience what animals not in thier right biome and the hell of always having to watch for mosquitoes feels like.
No response, so I'll ask this again:
Spoonwood wrote:... how will this affect players Eve-chaining on low population servers?
Were people who Eve-chain on low population servers even considered in this change?
I think I saw that it wont effect servers with under 15 population.
Your other job other than oil is to make bells.
We're gonna need them.
However, it can also be bypassed by 1/4 of the server population, so it's not very secure. If a bunch of engines end up in the desert, just find one desert dweller to help you get them, right?
How is hiding valuable stuff in a specialty biome any more powerful than walking north and hiding it in the middle of nowhere? If you want to get rid of something, as a griefer, it's not hard....
The solution is not the make hiding impossible, but to give players the tools to prevent theft in the first place. A griefer can't hide your engine if they can't get your engine....
I told slinky thanks for pointing that out to me. If you want loot go to your biome. You might find grief attempts like you said, but more likely other loot from those that perished that only you and your family can grab.
what never gambled at the hearth? woll you fer you sick hat bro Kappa
I totally gambled for a hat once. Not gonna lie, it was definitely one of my favorite memories pre rift. I said "snake eyes and I keep my hat" and I couldn't believe it when I actually rolled snake eyes. The other guy's mind was blown as well.
Have traded dyed hats for undyed hats while the dye is up.
If you ever have seen a village with a bunch of the same color hats, half were probably acquired that way. Its funny running around frantically screaming trade me hats at people, but it gets them mostly all dyed.
Alright, here's some actual ideas on how to make this "work"
Make it so each skin tone is more efficient in their specific biomes. Gingers don't get as cold in snow, Black people don't get as hot in jungles, and Brown don't get as hot in deserts.
Everyone can do everything, but make it easier in some way for the people with specialized skin tones. For example: non-black people have to add some rare ingredient to make rubber or palm oil that black people wouldn't because they're specialized.
+1
But you switched it. It would be the darkest skin tone not as hot in jungles, ginger not as cold in the snow, and personally I think the jungle peeps should get mosquitoe immunity.
Tighten the eve placement and put us a bit closer
Also make the first two wells last a lot longer to bootstrap.
Edit* I see that you are going to put more water in those wells
Snow biomes don't offer anything besides gold though, and even that is practically worthless.
Rubber is necessary, how are we supposed to last long enough to survive without a working pump? HOPE we can find another Eve with the right speciality? Eves spawning around us could just die and we'd have to walk thousands of blocks to find people to actually help. Water has been nerfed so hard that you have to rush as fast as possible for an engine for your town to even last long enough. Then adding a new restriction for it, finding a family that can actually make rubber? wait. TWO FAMILIES. Cause you need sulfur and rubber, desert and jungle.
This just sounds really REALLY annoying for early game. Seriously how are we supposed to make rubber for a pump?
Am I understanding this wrong?
The tarry spot is only in the arctic with this change.
Consider minecraft, where the recipes were even more esoteric and counter-intuitive (the whole 3x3 grid thing), and there were no hints at all, of any kind, in game about how to make things. The wiki was an indispensable part of playing MC.
Gah.. you saying that gave me MC Alpha memories. It was VERY invaluable.
Yes, just like real life, with softwood tree farms.
Though pine isn't used for firewood in real life. I'm not thrilled about that inconsistency.
It is in the desert where I live haha.
Yeah one notch down is good. Will help with the natural nighttime population being lower.
Yeah gotta link it. Even Jason's update pics are on imgur.
No more mega towns, just the family lodge and family sheep pen and family farm.
Until the bells come back haha
It ties into tool slot amount, old age hunger bar, and now ties into your chance to be eve
Rip rift.
You were misunderstood, and not everyone hated you. You were needed and many couldn't stomach you.
But we turn the page and begin anew
Yall restarted the arc, but we still have rift.
At least right now.
Unless it was global, server-wide.... like there was an earthquake that loosened up more oil, and the quakes got farther and farther apart....
Also this sounds pretty good.
In OHOL, I suppose it's pretty hard for it to get harder and harder over time. Yeah, maybe in one life, I could pull this off. So it's really really hard (maybe impossible) to live until 60. But is that interesting?
Then we can talk about the collective project in the game. It's also hard for THAT to get harder and harder, because as tech progresses, stuff is supposed to get easier (right?). That's the point of building tech, or else you just wouldn't build it.
But it does get harder in a way. Getting a diesel pump built in time is harder than starting a farm as Eve, right?
I think having something extremely difficult to do is better than it just being extremely difficult to make it to old age.
I dont think tech is supposed to get easier, it just makes our lives easier, at the cost of effort, skill, and motivation.. just like real life. Newcomen pumps at were one time THAT thing. Hell even CARTS were that point in the launch of the game. It was probably difficult to build those carts in the beginning and an accomplishment, like getting oil now.
No, it might just be about the same difficulty and luck to successfully eve or get oil.
Bump for jason
