#178 Main Forum » The problem with bounding with your mother » 2019-06-06 23:33:50

So, i have been feeling this for a while now and i think one of the problems with this game is how boring is when you become a mother or when you get born to one since it can become tedious and even a little dissapointing (Hello, die babies!)

And dont get me wrong, having a babie in real life is no joke and is difficult and i also believe it should be the same for OHOL, however being a mother and being the babie can be pretty much stale boring.

Usually, if not most cases you get born on the main site of the town (campfire) or you get born in some part of the town to get dumped there to say f when hungry and if you are lucky you get to watch something happen there before growing hair and saying "ty" then leaving to do anything else.

In other cases you get born outside of town, which can lead to being left behind because the mother is too busy doing something important (and since lifes are cheap here almost any item can be more valuable than a life) or you make that your mother has to stop everything she is doing just to bring you back to town to dump you in the campfire again.

However, if you are REALLY REALLY lucky your mother will let you stay nearby while conversing with you (more like talking to you because theres nothing left with interaction besides your 2 letters or emotes) and have a good experience out of it, which you can see every now and then with some posts about it.

What i am trying to say here is that bounding with mothers is pretty lacking because having a babie can be more of an annoyance because we dont have items or mechanics that can make having a babie more of a "sit right in this campfire and wait until it grows hair and hope no other mothers dump you the responsability) which i believe most players not caring for their children because they usually became an obstacle to their work.

Seems good to me, please hand your certificate of 15+ years web design experience  and we will be ready to go.

For upgrading it needs to be dry up first, which in logic seems fine to me, however the problem that comes up is that they dry first before we can get the tools to upgrade it (mostly the last state which is diesel engine honestly) so people just go to other springs to get the easier water, which was the same problem as before with swamp ponds

This is mostly my opinion but the main reason that jason started to work on a new water system was to prevent towns to "not upgrade their wells" because they could just use all the near ponds on the swamp, and he didnt like the swamp and grassland combo neither so it was two gooses in one skewer so he implemented springs to fix that problem.

But now towns just make roads to the nearest springs around to make a new well because the original spring dries fast enough to not being able to be upgraded sometimes. especially in the last state when you have to make a diesel engine, so people just go around and use another spring when the original one becomes exhausted.

I am the only one that feels that springs doesnt last long enough for civilizations to upgrade them "in time"?

Yep, I was in that family. Didn't realize the towers were going up right then. Some hero, perhaps outside the camp gathering iron, built up a entire forge setup to make picks and break down some corner walls on one entrance. Otherwise we waiting for a few fences to decay.

Yeah i do remember him, i think his name was morgan. good to hear you guys got out in time

People don't play games because of someone's vision.

Um. That's why I play. It's also why I watch films, listen to music and enjoy other art. Games are an *art form* not just some application to do your taxes. A good game must have a perspective, a vision and *say something* about what it is to be human. You can make suggestions to an artist. Tell them you don't like their art and why if you don't. But it's not your art. It's not your creation.

I think the fact that you look at this game like some kind of product ... rather than art is the root of your frustration. You are like someone who goes to a gallery show and then yells at the artist because she won't paint what YOU want. And it's not the feedback and ideas that you have that are the issue. It's the *yelling*

I think the problem here is that the vision that jason sold to us (which was a heart-warming civilization building experience) is ending up on a civil-war every now and then with casual deaths every life including yours every now and then.

If there is a large group of players that keep shouting "THE SWORD RUINS THE GAME" or "WE NEED MORE STORAGE" and you cannot understand what the problem could be then i dont exactly get what are you expecting us to say on a playerbase level.

However it seems odd for me that you are trying to tweak every mechanic of the game to try to justify or control any new addition that you add like it was the war sword or the fences update, to this point in time it feels like the game is going to make a full circle in progress because your vision is not longer matching the one that you showed us first in the trailer which is leading just to a faction war or casual civil war.

Meanwhile i respect you as the developer of the game and probably a nice person i dont think because you are the creator of the game or have designed them for 15 years doesnt mean that all of your calls that you make for this game are the correct ones.

Are there any plans to make a way to make them removable? they are being used as a griefing material to put permanent walls to close entrances and exits and by the time of making this post there is no way to remove it once it is constructed.

#191 Re: Main Forum » In your opinion, what is the weakest aspect of the game? » 2019-05-26 02:42:15

Stuff to do on high-tier villages besides repetitive farming, baking and stuff

It would also be a step forward to having trains to transport multiple people at the same time

In-game i have been seeing some hatred for eves now, and i kinda get the why, however what are your thought on legit eves who try to settle on the town? i have been seeing people that are trying to kill any eves or non-relateds that try to settle in and for one part i see the potential danger of another family line growing on town that can lead to some good old griefing but for the other part it doesnt feel right to kill someone who was just trying to play cool with another family, so whenever a fight breaks in town about killing or not killing the foreigner i always get quiet and just watch, so i wanted to ask you guys what are your thoughts on it to clear a little my mind on the issue

#194 Main Forum » idea: Blame system, a way to pin troublesome people » 2019-05-21 21:32:00

So right now in the default version of the game (the one i always play because i like to play vanilla) i have noticed that in populated towns is easy to lost the track of how many people are there or at least who are the ones who are causing any type of trouble, this can be lead for the default zoom or because the lack of attention due to current personal projects (like building a diesel engine or whatever) so far the only way we can identify someone is via their looks (clothes, race, atc) or getting our mouse into the character and look at their name or relation (tho it is kinda chunky with how movement in this game works), the first one however works pretty good with foreigners, however on a inside-family situation it can be pretty difficult to spot a griefer because it can share the same amounts of clothes or even character model (due we still lack new models since the new changes on how only one race can belong in the same family..) so they can blend pretty good.

How would this system work? you would have to say "I blame Carl" which would pin a character on a certain way that is noticeable to people that can be stackeable, the more blames you got the more you noticeable you get (could begin with a grey mark with fews blames or a red bright one with lots of blames) this would not interfiere with curse and would just be a way to pin people, the person being blamed would not be able to see this mark only to prevent him to "try to look good" or just trying to pretend being not a griefer. Blame would have a cooldown of 10 or 20 minutes  to prevent spamming and the only way to stack blame is by individual blames. this would have the objective to being able to "shoot first" without having to check out the names just to make sure you are not shooting someone who just looks like them and getting stabbed for it.

this was a silly idea that i thought the other day and i dont expect to anything to came out of it, just wanted to share it.

Seems good to me, no matter how much time it would take its a feature that we will need in the near future anyways, i wouldnt care if would take him a week alone in making it possible because that alone can open to so much other stuff like trains

Since all familys remain the same skin-color with no chance of changing with every new-born having new character models should be implemented sometime soon, since with the new update every family ends up having the same character but just older or younger and that kinda breaks the immersion and can lead with some confunsion in extreme moments

#197 Re: Main Forum » What if we force Eve to get real... » 2019-05-15 19:50:11

If  you want to spawn-lock the location when an Eve spawns then you would need to tweak the biomes where a spring-head can appear in since not any biome can support an eve camp long enough before this one can make progress (a good example would be branches, wild food or ponds, pheraps making the spring head like a super-pond before it dries out to become a deep well to fix the no water problem in say a mountain biome?) the principal reason why eves look for the perfect spot is that most of the biomes arent suitable for a camp so spawn-locking eves are going to just make eveing more tedious rather than challenging. If you make that changes as the game is right now most villages would wander off and try to co-exist with another village until one gets sick of the other and rushes the arms race to swords

Slocum family died a while ago by the death of our last girl. my parents (one which treated me like a son and my mother) were preparing the village hoping that an eve would eventually find it, however i decided to go out and explore in hopes to find another village to settle in, my parents were ok with it and the let me borrow some things and a cart with me, i did go with 3 baskets and a bucket for me to fill in the way, once i left town my adventure began which is documented right here: https://imgur.com/a/zjiUmJH

Everyone can change if they really try. The difference is that you are not willing to change.
