I kinda imagined a Newcomen road roller, that uses asphalt, a side product of oil-producing, to lay roads in a straight line
you fill the machine and choose a starting point, it goes until it has any asphalt left
then you reload it and go further
the downside would be that you would need to clear the way in front of it, but you could make a long straight (or staircase) road with it quickly, if you got the materials
would make sense gameplay-wise that distance is not an issue late game
but the main problem is that nothing worth anything without renewable resources, now even the engines can be stolen from a well, so the people who actually made a city reach the tech stage and not die out early like others who weren't able to do the grind, their work is pissed on with this change
back before we had some cities that worth reviving and a lot that doesn't really
now I saw empty cities, maybe the doors aren't removed, it has a decent pen and huge flooring but no food or metal within 200x200 radius
at this point, they could decay and a random swamp would provide more benefit to the world
I mean what's the point connecting cities which don't worth anything? you can be sentimental, carry oil from further and further away back to a city, but when the engine is stolen and every piece of tech is stolen, it's more trouble than worth to it
I mean you can't waste much space, most I saw was the sw city from the 8 day rift, they had like 15 for their city and 15 for randos
still can't build a pen out of it xD
not sure about the gate changes, you still gonna need a gate and 2 walls to protect from animals
had this setup for just that:
The grape can be something else, like a loom or painted wall, wall box
sensible use of water would always be bread and pies, just outside the bakery would be good and this setup protects you from animals entering (or exiting)
generally, you want a horse fence near a cistern, it can be used to make a gate later on and break auto orient
or just break the endless 3x3 farms that will be planted with berries anyway
when you build your Newcomen you got to have cisterns, even before, like just empty the wells into 3-4 cisterns and start upgrading, you already need those tires anyway
one in the kitchen can help as well, even one near the Newcomen hammer, or one aside for wild soil and milkweed
when you take over other camps, might happen that a new wells site pops up closer than 160 then a cistern and a single bucket and a bowl can empty it, upgrade to advanced and empty that too, then you can move the cistern stones home , you lose one plaster but still worth for fast empty well, best to take some kid to do it and you just get home the water with buckets
flat rocks got different uses so there is a conflict
abandoned towns only good before Newcomen phase
if cars would work only on top of the roads, but wouldn't require (this much) kerosene, then they would be decently useful
but now they can be taken apart and then the engine destroyed so that isn't a good thing either
mine carts would need levers to stop them anywhere on the line to allow gradual scavenging with them, maybe auto load and unload feature so they not just a meme
yeah, breaking chisel works on iron mines, so you can use them for cutting stone a bit, since it still has 1 usage when it's crackling, it can be used on the iron mine, but as far as I saw, there is still no reason to use the kerosene for iron, you get water for it and you can collect quite a lot of iron from dead towns
one important thing to mention: iron mines only work for the eves, in some cases there are no muddy veins near your well so you won't get iron, then the first outpost can get iron
but after that, outposts won't get iron, they even dry out the possible locations so you better off taking over small camps with iron or choosing one that wouldn't have any iron anyway
when families die out you can get different wells nearby, the 160 TapouT radius doesn't apply every time
I don't really care about bubu, its just one kid hungry for attention
The killing was fine when you could 1 on 1 anyone, in the end, you come to the conclusion that you can only blame yourself especially when the system somewhat works, and if you can only blame yourself, then at least do it yourself
I remember preemptively building teleports to be able to take revenge just in case, or telling one person where some hidden pads are, that wasn't either the best design but still better
not sure how jason imagines the game, but there is a really big difference on what he thinks and what actually is
60 minutes tops, you don't have much time, it won't be meaningful, you can't spend it with worrying about things that may or may not happen, it's just not fun, waiting 50 minutes for something to happens is wasted time, but if it happens then you barely got time to react
this slow-paced game is forced on us, you can't use tools, can't get any resource you want, meanwhile, someone can die in a minute and there is chaos, but you should organize leaders for your butterfly life? we would need more help with that
lol, 2nd kiln? ![]()
I like when I got a lot of something, like adobe or branches or stone or whatever, gathered or au nature, just be a lot so then I make something impressive
butt generally I will take a horse and go around checking where I am in the world, that helps if I play more lives in the upcoming days
its top-secret, come to discord and I tell ya
I would be in favour of meritocracy, historically and even gameplay wise would be better if the right people lead the towns
We still don't have a scoring system to show the usefulness of people and only veterans recognize other veterans, sometimes people stop and stare that how fast I'm working with swapping items but other than that I might go unnoticed by everyone, now I'm not talking about myself, I talk about veterans in general. I would accept a good player as a leader, but oftentimes I see them ordering dumb stuff like someone made a proper kiln setup 10 tiles to the right and she already panicked about griefers stole the bellows.
Or the other game I dug up bushes and organized the farm, and the leader was ordering them to plant more or the other life, the leader told them to water plants when the sensible action would have been to use that little water on pies and advanced foods.
The solution would be a hybrid system, the leaders could be chosen from the available high leadership number people, but an election would be held between the top 3 so people can decide. This should be as simple as possible, so you don't spend a lot of time with it, lets say 3 or 4 people have to apply within 2 minutes, people give votes under 2 minutes, this could be held every 15 minutes or so it isn't too often
should be simple, like some sort of tables where the applicants stand and people giving votes by touching their table
Solo pictures would make it searchable, but have too many groups defeats the purpose, the dropdown gets huge and then you can't use the other groups effectively for other reasons like numbers or signs or keyboard pictures
so far if I use it, I need groups, like you used walls and floors, plants and containers, foods, iron(tools) and parts like branches, kindling
now you can put tables in different groups like container, wood, walls
or buckets into container, wood, water
most of the items have these properties anyway, what is made of what is used for
had the other category for bloody knife and corpses and crown and such, which are not really needed anyway so no reason to have with other stuff together, same goes for stuff like radio or aeroplane or whatever we rarely make
pdf version does not have any problem, can be bigger in size, but I optimized those backgrounds for the size of pictures on onetech so not much reason to have it any bigger, not sure how many pictures there are, having all of them, renaming then categorizing, converting after
the only downside of pdf I see is no preview for it (at least with the program I prefer to view my files Honeyview, might be in other programs like IrfanView or others but I like Honeyview look and options)
others might use a picture pack for other programs and this program itself has the ability to batch convert pdf
also might be better for each person to create their own groups they can remember so I guess downloading and renaming files in picture format would be the best action you could do

Was a while someone asked for it, kinda a year ago? helps me remind to get the next version of the program
also to delete some unneeded sprites and organize it
we figured out that it's better on the mac since it has a search feature, so pdf versions could be searched with it
sadly no such thing on windows, but I set up a group based system where you can search on the subcategory
you can put items in multiple categories like boxes are wood but also containers, there is space for 4x7 on my resolution, so around 28 items without scrolling
limiting the space can work for cleanup, people limit it anyways, by dropping all kinds of shit there, but if there is a fence then they won't go in just to drop stuff, so once you clean it it can stay clean.
Obviously kitchens are filled with shit sometimes, and boxes used for different things like clothes
in my pen design, the box was intended for the meat, they used for wheat, the tables were intended for food and stacks of bowls/plates, they used for clothes and medicals
in a way it made sense, they had no other storage

I had a plan for a half-closed yum station, but some asshole kept dropping me as a kid then using knife and bow to try to kill me, obviously, it didn't work but he was annoying, so I locked him up with 8 branches
there comes a little idiot baby who just born, and she kept telling people that it's a prison
she spends more than 40 years to ruin the place and steal the boards and shafts from there, hiding tools and such

The top one is not the most functional, maybe good as anti-bear shelter, I designed it before the new gates, probably you could put gates on it for aesthetics but very heavy on the board usage and not much space to work inside it
the second one is compact and looks good, also safe from animals if you put the stew on sides, as you see is quite impractical as a prison without th cisterns, 4 exits and shafts are not the best way to kill innocents
probably 1 wider or narrower so it has a centre. maybe wider, put a gate and 2 horse fences to gather stuff or make it look like a triangle or a Y for yum xD
new system is generic af
it removes a good element compared to the old system
I think it's a major flaw, remember your first hours? you are barely able to navigate, most players consider the camp the items on the ground connected to each other, when you learn how to go around your camp, you get interested what lays beyond the horizons.
You hear that the map is huge and other cities are out there, wast riches and more resources.
Except it's not. The map is generic, all the same, nothing really worth much, water and oil is limited, iron is limited, biomes are limited by race.
The 2d perspective gives a good potential for a strategic game, 3d offers more pvp or pve elements and skill-based combat, visuals, but 2d was always focusing on strategics.
And civilization on a high level is strategy. Just look at the games that started 2d and went for 3d. Ag of empires III was not as popular as the second. The 4th goes back to 2d view since the aoe2 remakes had major popularity and fanbase, they even want to start esports now.
But I can also say that stronghold crusader was way more popular than the new stronghold games, their online game was also 2d, and their new game will go back to the roots. The other game I can mention, it's Desperados. The first attempt of them making the game 3d, was a major fail, their later release has both 2d and 3d, switching between them is good, there are some cases you want to go 3d and win a 1v1 bu still more enjoyable playing it 2d.
There are a lot of 2d games that are popular and for a reason, they are fun to play. Civilization series, endless legend, etc.
They are also called 4x games. 4x stands for 'explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate'.
Explore: going out in the wilderness can reward you for resources. Expand: using the resources you can expand the city. Exploit: after finding resources, you use them up to create more tech, army whatever. Exterminate: when you find other civilizations you fight for the control of the world.
Here is the problem with ohol: removing the element of exploration, means exploiting those resources is not based on skill or decisions.
Exploration is also nerfed since you aren't limited to leave your homeland but you are limited to make a new outpost, you are limited to get more iron, you are limited to find things outside. this, and the removal of engines from wells, made old towns useless, it takes way more resource investment to revive them then to make a new place viable.
Also, the exploitation of resources is not your choice, the eves leave behind some iron and you can gather it, if they die out early it means others can take over their outpost, but this is like rewarding someone else for others bad choices. Back before, we could make a new outpost and have resources and was our choice, our reward, as a multiplayer game, kinda fails on the promise of having choices that matter. Because a lot of things are not a choice and not something you could change. Meme score is random, leadership is kinda random, people die and around 50-55 you might become a leader if no one is manipulating that artificially, but right now no one is using it even.
Jason said multiple times that he doesn't want to be similar to other games (while adding dung bucket just like don't starve). But now I'm talking about a genre not a game. At least it had the possibility to be a 4x game, now the choices he made removed that. Lot of us knew the game is good, has a lot of potentials, but the changes remove more and more potential and it became a generic grid-based water system, a generic grid-based oil, generic grid and city-based iron system. And I don't like to be affected by others choices and still forced to help them.
When you were able to move 40 tiles and make a new town, you could make something nice there and leave others behind who were wasting resources and made a bad logistic system. It's also very unnatural and unrealistic, that you go further in the world but others affect your ability to find iron or water.
It's basically another thing Jason did to enforce his vision of slow-paced boring drama making intention-based playstyle and nerf veterans, nerf certain playstyles.
You got to put up the question, why do even have an unlimited map when we sit in a 100x100 box, people don't really go out of that, you can die and get elsewhere so travel doesn't really matter, but we got no tech to have faster travel to others or cartography or at least a minimap.
Realistically you won't make roads long enough to matter. And even if you do is not something that worth the effort. you need 2-3 hours to connect up 600 tiles, cities can die, the server can be reset.
So the overall problem is that choices don't matter and there are no goals, no renewable resources, no higher-tech. All we ge is nerfs and enforced gameplay of a slow and generic city building.
there is a new ginger town to the right of bergs, 150 tiles, Newcomen era, possibly they got the engine
dragons whites are like 650 to the left, all the same Y coords
everyone won't yum, and the ones who do will take from rest
one turkey won't give 2-3 yum for everyone
I don't actually, I don't even farm most lives, I let others do that, realistically you can get skewers and not use a hoe, even so you can use up your "portion" of water and soil
you still need pies for portable food
I really think gathering pays off better than making several yum foods for myself only, wasting the tool slots
if I collect stuff that can be cooked by others I get more overall efficiency
same for pigs or sheep, I can collect all the things they need to process it and I'm better off not using tool slots on it
funny thing that they lost their engine anyway
somebody tried to lock up tarry spots, I found 2 walled ones south, eventually, someone removed one side of each of them, the bears were poked
it looked shit, later on, I returned there as a brown guy and got them enough rubber to deplete the well, even some leftover (was just 19 so they were lucky?)
I think is very boring to do the Newcomen phase, takes long and rubber is hard to get, better deplete it fast and get to kerosene stage
the biomes looked weird around it, not too many swamps, fragmented jungles and deserts with no resources on them, a lot of animals to kill
not really a place to have a longstanding town
generally you gotta have big biomes, no fragmentations, ice can be smaller if has oil and icehole on it, desert and jungle is all about the size
I still think goose, carnitas, pop corn and eggs are good when not yumming, realistically you hit a wall around 15 yum, and you got to be creative with it
3-5 wild foods might help
monis are so far down, maybe that led the to so long line? quite weird
no scaling but the closest town was 200-800, I think it's the current only bell town
I really liked the fact that they had an expert waystone to browns right next to it, and they were blacks

would have needed like 5 minutes more to contain their mosquitoes with 6 bell bases and fences
yesterday it was unoccupied, a brown family could plant a lot of trees there and make it work a bit more
I was a daughter of eve, and we started a camp under gingers, 300-400 NW under a huge swamp, they were afk and not many girls so died out 3-4 gens in, it had several spots 3 mines activated, I think like 40-80-40 distances alwayss had 3 mines next to cities
egg bb stack

I put the cow pen way too high now it's a bit weird
went black as brown guy and made them a lot of rubber
yeah it can have 6 more by walling more to right, also it needs a box to pass trough bones to the top
but possibly could be above too then the berries there and wheat on the south side. then right could be a clothing room
I guess the oven could be more to the left, then the wheat could fit
if you always kill naked then its fine
you don't want to give them water, you feed 3 corn, since the time between feeding and milk is same, you get a few seconds on each bucket so it doesn't matter, the gate could be either side just bit asymmetric
the oven wasn't really a point in this since people make ovens early, so this is more like a secondary spot for hot coal-based food, so the sheep really just there for some compost
if anything, you could put oven next to gate and cook some raw mutton for yum
property gates can be chopped down maybe that could be used to make temporary and keep space for final walls

okay, here the berries go from top, wheat from the bottom, shifted the side so the kitchen has access to it
the problematic part is to put the walls sideways, plaster and attach the box on it, before adding the rest of adobe walls, the gate has to be near it to be usable, boxes would block it
all the animals can fit together until extended, the cow pen is easy to make alone in 10 min
NS gates probably easier to make as fence boxes
no much reason to wall up for farms other than the look of it, maybe bear defence
not much reason to access goose from pork pen or sheep pen so boxes between might be better, then the gates can be built later on
I guess the corners could be stone, then later can be connected with real fences in between, that way only 9+11 stone needs shittons of shafts tho
if the kitchen and the cow pen is done, the south side can be fence or fence box, half of west side covered with the kitchen so 3x6 or 5x6 prop fence sheep pen inside and 3 prop gates would do, the building corners would mark the extension places
the cisterns also important if you don't include a well, I wouldn't put the well inside, with Newcomen stage, already messed up, no need to farm near it
people got used to making kitchen but you can't effectively cook other foods inside it, I would prefer ovens without babies, clothes, garbage, bones, laid out plates one per tile and some space to drop a sheep with rope
generally, I just keep moving out food that can't be cooked there
people still mistake sheep and pork meat
also they won't cook the palm kernels or tires, belts, so thatt can be a separate oven
a big space for bowls and plates and later tables would be ideal to do all the new foods which require hot coals
@miskas I just realized after making it that those fences need one down but too lazy to edit it out, since I did it 3 times for other errors
T connections L connections auto orient, so as long as it's an ---- wall, it won't be an issue, IIII walls need to have the gates first
expanding this 1 boh sides would be okay I guess but that would be 11 wide inside, and still need like 5x5? animal pens on sides
that's like 23-25 wide already, I guess it's still more likely than building tables early
you can manage that with placing tables, boxes, cisterns, signs on two sides, they still act as a wall but won't flip the gates
the big issue is that if you put a gate between fences, people can smash with a mallet and remove shaft, then there is no entrance to it and turns diagonal, also ruins the build order, you don't want advanced stuff at first
fence boxes are good, you can start with a fence
the other reason you want the gates first, that you lay out the shape before you make the whole thing so the spacing is correct
quite big setup so better walk 20-30 tiles from the camp

another version with an oven. shep pen gets small and a bit harder to pass through the sheep food
cars use kerosene while horses got no upkeep (jason sees this, nerfs horses)
also cars need kerosene slot, or you stuck somewhere and can't come back so essentially 3 slots remaining while horses with upgraded tire can hold 8 big items, that's 9 vs 24 if you use baskets
the amount of work a car needs, we would really need massive encumbrance, by the tire logic, it should be 4x as normal carts, so 16 big, 48 small
loading it would take 10 minutes for some xD
the main issue is that you don't use the horse from fence to fence, as jason thinks or won't worth making a fence when you just take resources from that spot
cars are way worse cause you can't time the engine, you can't stop it so it runs even if it's not moving
either it should be a distance-based usage and stop while not used or time-based but with the ability to stop it, that 2 minutes is still very bad for the cost of kerosene, should be way higher, if you burn the equivalent of 40 bowls of water you would expect that it should move a ton of resources, but thi design is so bad thinking about high distance, even if you go 3x faster, you would need that for like 4-6 minutes for 2000ish distance (100 tile on foot, 300 on horse, 900 on car), sure, it's 2k if you know the way but maybe you find something or you don't know exactt location
for carts, would need more load as well, at some point he promised that big rocks would go on it, even then you should be able to stop at any location (or any location with a lever) and then maybe auto load and unload items at the end of the track

Made this during life in the ginger camp, didn't have slots left to use it, but eventually, some people used it
got back second life, added some cisterns, cornfield
spent most of the time with smithing the scrapped engine parts back to steel, made a lot of limestones, covered the nursery, made tons of tools and some Newcomen parts (new core or potential oil distiller)
Learned the hard way that I can't put too close the gates, L shape seems far enough but actually taps out each other, also consumes the shafts so me idiot wasted 3 short shafts until I realized that's the case, it should not consume it just drop it
So I managed to make it. Some people made tacos butt they didn't use this spot for itt, which is quite sad, was optimized for that mostly
Anyway, the new plan is this:
*horse fences one below
The tables are important cause they could lock people in by smashing the gates with mallet near a corner, as it flips sideways, but can hold tools or food
Corn can be inside the fence with the animals, it won't be a problem, only thing is the carrot which should be separated from woolly sheep.
The outer size can be scaled, the inner size is important
5 gates cost 15 shafts, the side ones not necessary, can even be property gate
2 cisterns can be hard without a smith and a horse but you can do it later, also made for no flip but needed by plants anyway, soil can be gathered time to time or compost a bit but water is annoying if you don't have
2 horse parking can be made later
boxes later on the top of the fences, the tables for a cow can be also made later just leave out space
sheep has to be near goose so you can pass egg and goose trough a box, or extra gate
can be flipped if attaching to existing pen
kiln south could produce extra bowls and plates since hot coal foods require a lot of them, probably a bellow for limestone only
fences are faster but of you got adobe, you can make a temporary wall for all animals and later just extend and sort them out
you can use signs as well so the gate won't flip
if anyone else sees these structures, move over the hot coal foods here, way faster to make it
I will try more resilient resources is possible, it could look like this:
put a paper with a message into a marked box, then hit with a hammer
Jason getts the message on paper via email
