a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I have only had two boys in my last 22 children. That seems like a really rough distribution.
One of those boys SID'd. I've had low overalls SIDs lately so... I'm curious as to whether the high girl numbers and no benefit to being a boy make any difference.
My marker has returned. So... no longer an issue, or temporary glitch?
For me, I wonder if this is a step toward culture. It would be interesting if, somewhere down the line, we had distinct cultures in different places. Normally culture comes from language, but it also comes from art and food and clothing. If there is some way, early on, to choose a culture path, so that if you make salsa, you then can’t make marinara or tikka masala. But you could trade!
Is anyone else's home marker missing? Mine has been for the past day or so. The last game where I had it, I was the daughter of an Eve, and we had moved so far that I set a new home stake using a skewer and round stone, but since then... no marker. It's not auto-marking my home spot in games when I'm born. Just me?
YASSSS!!!
If you aren't naming your redheaded boys Fred and George, then you're doing it wrong.
Also, my crowning achievement in child naming continues to be naming quads Emma, Etta, Ella, and Eva.
Can we get a forum here dedicated to making suggestions? It seems like we were being pointed to reddit at one point, but that seems slightly counterintuitive. And at this point, the "Main Forum" is a mix of discussion of game mechanics and suggestions... but that may be confusing for newer players who think that a suggestion thread is something that actually works in-game.
I sort of agree. I think black speech bubbles should appear after 3-5 curses, then Donkeytown after 8. If you can't figure your shit out when you start speaking in black... you deserve the DT.
This suggestion has been made before. It's fallen on deaf ears.
Stop burying people next to things. Take three seconds, walk away from town, dump the body, walk back.
DON'T BURY IT.
It will not decay in your lifetime anyway. It makes no difference, as long as you take the time to WALK AWAY.
FOR ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY, MOVE BODIES AWAY FROM TOWN. THEY'RE DECOMPOSING.
Now bring your shovel back here and put it to good use by building a well or putting some dung on compost. Don't bury people.
ERGH.
I've started stabbing men for kidnapping babies and letting them die. The excuse is always "they swore" or "they tried to pick up a backpack." Okay, if you can be judgey, so can I.
I made it to 19. I give full credit to my daughter, who did a load of work and had more non-suicide babies than me, and her son who managed to get sheep. YAY USEFUL CHILDREN.
No. Just... don't do this.
jasonrohrer wrote:Yes, you are "forced" to beat the tutorial as a new player (unless you muck in the Settings folder).
After that, it's accessible from the death screen only.
Trying to avoid too much clutter on the login screen.
Tutorials should always be easily accessible, Jason. It makes no sense to only make it accessible by death. People will want to play it more than once. It would not be "clutter" on the login screen. It is a necessity for new players.
Totally agree with this. People wind up playing once or twice, getting confused, then coming back LATER and wanting to do the tutorial again to try some of the things they saw in-game. But... it's not there, and they didn't note the location when they died. Tutorial should be available on login.
Penguin eggs are a weird idea, considering how protective penguins are of their eggs. But the fact that we see individual penguins is, in and of itself, super weird. Penguins are not solitary animals.
I'm all for new food sources, but say no to penguin. Giant yes to ice fishing.
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the ease of living with a lot of ponds. It's NOT a nomad life, but you can survive solely off eggs quite nicely. I've lived in two egg-based villages that were adjacent to cities. I don't think one of the cities would have survived without the village as a bridge between us and the savanna; the other? Well, always nice to have egg supplements. But - depending on how many ponds you have - one can definitely spend a whole life in Eggville.
I had twin girls yesterday and kept them because A) I was the only girl left in my generation, B) my first child was a girl but a complete noob ("Uncle died! will anyone know how to farm?" and C) I remembered this thread and was taking a chance.
They contributed throughout childhood, which was helpful, but one died at 21 (she had to go to work) and then the other quit. Which was annoying AF, considering we were a gen 5 camp that felt more like a gen 2 (Eve died at 16!!)
I guess my ultimate answer is: it's situational.
"White Hat Society"
You keep using this word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Also, depending on how well resourced the town is, it's VERY HARD to support twins while playing the game. If you are Eve-ing, it's pretty much impossible. So much time and energy goes into raising two kids... you're liable to die while making sure they're fed.
If the civilization is dying, one individual won't be able to save it like this. Organizing the road builders to find water and build a road there would help, but in three generations no one will remember that the road exists for that reason, and the civilization will die anyway. Solving a problem once is not enough.
If you don't have a role, there are other people who also don't have one. Make sure they do, and then make yourself replaceable, so that it won't all fall apart when you're dead.
Oh, I'm not talking about DYING civilizations; I'm talking about thriving ones. People tend to think you can coast because the civilization exists; you can't. There's always trouble coming. You need to prep for it, and keep it at bay. If all else fails, KEEP MAKING COMPOST.
Most of the time, big civilizations that think they're fine and running smoothly ARE NOT.
Berry patches are a great example. Berry farming (well, farming of any sort, but berries most of all) needs a constant influx of soil - so you need a working compost farm. Which means you need a berry farm, a carrot farm (that people don't eat all the carrots from), a wheat farm (that people don't just thresh without replanting first since the seeds dissipate), and a sheep pen. And all of that needs to be healthy and in working order - you can't try to make compost when things are already dying; it takes too many berries.
Big civilizations tend to run out of water. So there needs to be further exploration to find more. I'm not sure what the long-term plans are for pipes, but right now, wells run dry and then people have to rely on the hope of well regeneration or bringing in water from far away to fill cisterns.
Big civilizations start to get excited about roads and railroads - but don't seem to know where they're building them TO. Another food area? Another water area? Or are they just building for the sake of building??
See what the civilization is lacking. See where the edges of the town are and what biomes are not well represented. What resources are missing? What can help? Yes, berries... but a toddler can tend berries. Go harness a horse or build more carts so the civilization can expand. Stockpile medic supplies ready for the next bear or griefer attack. Think about ways to advance the city, rather than ways the city can just... subside.

one person wont change a game, there was someone killing like 180 people last week alone
Yep. There's a difference between a griefer and an asshole bully. You are the latter. You make this game a worse place - you DO change the game for people you interact with. I still consider my interaction with you the lowest point in my time in-game... and your actions drove me to act differently in-game. So. Maybe stop being such a dick, and you'll get different responses from people.
Frittatas/quiches. Generally, more with eggs.
My one great romance was lost due to server reset.
I still pine for you, Jak Gonnella.
<slowclap>
If you look carefully and you have in mind that in the session that I collected yesterday there are fewer registered moves, you will see that we practically have the same situation as a few weeks ago
there are more tools to kill, if correct, but the murderers are the same as weeks ago

Yep. To be clear: JonySky has pulled data from 8/12, the date of the butter knife murder bug. It's not like this *every day.* But people are lying in wait to be giant assholes.
