Fur is actually warmer than wool (so what first image says at the bottom is wrong)
A way to remove buildings (that is expensive and time consuming but doable, to avoid people destroying buildings for fun) would be nice to revive buildings with architectural mistakes. Ideally demolishing would not consume the sources, again, to make it a non-desirable method for trolls and grievers.
I created a suggestion in reddit, where Jason checks out the suggestions once in a while and decides if its necessary/feasible.
Okay, shutting down the server to add an overeating prevention check and disable killing for now. I might re-enable killing in the future if the mechanics change slightly so it's not quite so instant and people have time to react to aggression. Should be back in an hour or so once everyone's died off so it can shut down cleanly and I've got it updated.
Thats great. What exactly will be the overeating prevention?
On a different note, as far as how many servers to have / how to spread populations, I think the most effective method is probably still the classic mmo method:
List all the servers, and their current populations and let players pick which servers to play on.
I would still keep in the Auto-server-select feature (make it a checkbox option during server select), but to improve on the boring old method, I would make this modification:
Allow players to select "Favorite Servers".
Give each player the ability to mark a couple servers with their priority. So they have say 4 favorites, they mark them #1 - #4 and when they respawn, if they have Auto-server-select option turned on, the spawn spread algorithm tries to place them with priority on their favorite servers, until those populations are too high.
So you get the best of both worlds. People can still chose to stay working on a specific server, or they can bounce around as they please ( pretty much already doing this with customServerAddress ) as easily as checking a box on the respawn screen.
and you wont have as many dead servers when overall game population declines eventually, since likely numerous people will have selected a low pop server as their favorite, most servers will still have a dedicated group justifying keeping it alive.
Of course inevitably some servers will die off, but you can let it happen more naturally.
We are already doing that, aren't we?

useCustomServer - change the 0 to a 1
customServerAddress - change localhost to server#.onehouronelife.com
# = the mainserver you want"

It really is like a free-play crafting mode. Perfect way to learn you way through the tech tree. I'm loving it. Working on a fence behind the big house...
I learned how to prepare dyes, so the next step is to wrangle some moulons and raise sheep in the pen I'm building! Soon we'll be sporting multi-colored wool clothes.
I'm way too excited by this.
Edit: I have to say, also, the farm work is beautiful here. The stocked carts, the carrots, the wheat, the berries, the milkweed. It's the well-tended abundant kingdom we all dream of in the savage servers...
It sounds a bit like Stardew Valley
I do try to help out each baby of mine as wild Eve, but in all honesty I don't manage that well each time...
The game tends to put you next to an existing camp, in which case I tell the baby that we will try to work that camp. In the mean time I have to stay by a bush and wait until the baby grows. I find thats the only way baby would survive as a wild Eve.
New players will learn this after a while, if they care. But it is very hard right now if Eve doesn't now how to scan the map and keep moving in one direction until they find an abundant place with many berry bushes to rear the baby into childhood.
To answer your question, I never counted but I think you start eating after the age of 4, so 4 minutes? You maybe need to breastfeed twice a minute.
I really hate to have to discuss this issue in the context of this game. It sounds wrong, and it can have strong negative effects on a person who has disabilities in real life. But I will try to explain my view without upsetting anyone.
We cannot discuss this in terms of the freedom and abundance we have in the modern world. The stage we are at in this game (and probably will remain in, as Jason doesn't want players to get too comfortable) is more in line with stone and iron age, where people would not care for disabled members of the society as much as we do now. This is a world where personality or intellectual qualities don't have much value.
Where food is scarce and physical labor is your only commodity, unfortunately few people would make the effort to take care of a person which cannot give anything back to the community, because the things one can give back (which will entail carrying stuff around and moving as fast as possible) requires two hands and feet.
He just said he reversed the setting for how fast you get hungry, back to normal (eating bonus back to 3). I will try it again today to see how new changes to farming work without increased hunger
Cool - we have ice and snow now and ... reborn with NO mom around.
I start the game 30 times!!!
And:
- no mom
- mom doesn´t move
- mom run away
- mom take me and starve
- i am in a town and everyone else starve bc of no Foodyeah. Amazing this shit update. I will not Play this game in a time ...
It was so much fun and i told all my friends about it and now ...Waste of fun and time
I am so much in the same boat as you, but I still have hope. People will learn, compost will become main stream and we will enjoy multiplayer again. But until then... :
I just saw this post https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 2112#p2112
Maybe would help to keep you playing?
Wow this is great. I can join now and then as a teacher
It was maybe the 2nd day of me playing this game when a player said "DO YOU WANT TO LEARN COMPOST" and I said "YEA". I didn't even know how to make fire... I learned compost and used it once, until now...

Explains there, in the main post.
OMG yes, Jason said he put the eating bonus back to 3. <3

Agreed it makes things very much harder. I wonder what the vision is for the future here - whether jason wants us to go beyond being carrot farmers into larger societies or he wants to keep adjusting the equilibrium so neolithic society is a constant struggle to maintain. The new soil issues are what gets me. I can get a farm going and get clothed on my own (though only if I ignore babies), but I can't manage composting as well.
I really wish some quality of life changes would be made for things like talking, the viewport handling, item stacking, item management etc. If it's just going to get harder and harder then the fiddliness of the UI gets much more difficult to put up with.
I actually got that feeling from his last article, that he doesn't want people to get too comfortable. But I really don't see how you can keep the game play enjoyable if you are stuck struggling in the first stage.
I thought it would be a perfect balance of struggle and development with the changes to farm mechanics, if we had the eating bonus at three. Because new system already makes it more challenging to have a steady supply of food.

I expressed my opinion about the drop in eating bonus in another thread. But I am not a fan. Especially now that finding food is harder, I don't see the point on making it even faster to get hungry...
I mean, I liked this game for a slightly casual game play where you still have the time pressure. But now, it is just hardcore and stressfull. I hope he increases the eating bonus.
If he does, I am a fan of the changes to food system that encourages variety.
I'm with you on this. Was nice being able to explore all parts of the game but now it's just trying to go one more min before starving by finding the next berry tree. I was loving making things like wheel barrows and buildings but now its trying to scramble for your next meal before you and your kids starve. Agree, it's stressful. And frustrating, not really fun now.
When I started this post, I am trying to keep things neutral... but after further playing this for like 3 hours straight, this is my comment to your frustration:
If you need to search berry trees like that? Just die, don't waste food on yourself and clinch on to life, seriously. The food bonus and the need of clothing makes a naked person seriously useless. I managed to find a place with like 10 berry bushes around; but since water and clay is too far away, my 40ish person can only managed to make those three basic tools and I just so frustrated that I just stop eating around 55. Before I die, those ten berry bushes only have around like one or two left.
Remember land's resource are limited; and the one and only unlimited resource is Eve.
This is the nightmare of a game developer though: people not being able to play the game as intended and having to find tricks like "logging off and on". That's why I think Jason would want to take back the change, cause he wants people to be able to survive as naked Eve's. That's the only way the whole system could ever work.
So its not a solution to try logging off and on until you are born to a wealthy family.
I aggree with vilka. Of course I know clothing is important, but I could only get a top or two after this update, while taking care of babies and trying to establish one plot of farm to not to starve.
About warmth: The backpack used to give warm bonus. Now it doesn't.

I think the game became just about not starving. I have to think about food all the time.
Before the update I could easily take care of a baby as a lonely Eve while building a new settlement. Now it has become almost impossible, and only way it is possible is to just sit around a berry bush and hope your child will help you to build something as you have other children. So far 90% of my children died, I died many times, which was not the case before the update.
So am I just being a wuss or is this a problem for you too?
