These are great! I just bought the game for my friend and he was asking for tutorials like this. Thank you:)

P.S. I made one like this for people to learn smithing inside the tutorial area. Check out my tag line big_smile

Freakin plot twist! It seems like "Tony" was actually named "Tom" and HE WAS THE ONE who killed my daughter! It's ok guys I'm not taking sides 'cause I had fun with all of you.

You girls were awesome! You learned how to compost so easily. I hope you will keep playing.

I ran away from home as a ginger man my next life and magically found our town of black people again once I was middle aged. When I got there Lemonica was in the middle of being murdered. Limmie died shortly after and had no idea the weird ginger man following her around speaking jibberish used to be her mom lol.

After that I helped Tony finish an engine. We couldn't talk and he couldn't use the lathe because he was out of tool slots, but I was able to use the lathe to help him finish the job. I hope someone gets oil! I was only able to even find the black people town again (lets call it town of law stones) because I ran into my distant cousin on the way there and she was following a map to get there. Hopefully she will succeed in mixing the two towns.

Another fun fact: I was a a ginger man yesterday in a brown ginger mixed town to the southwest of the town of law stones! We needed sulfur so my brother and I made maps and went exploring to find black people. We eventually found the black town, but when we found it yesterday it was completely abandoned. My brother took the sulfur home and another map; he planned to bring women back to seed the town. I'm not sure if it ever happened. I kept wandering to find black people but I never did either.

Whew. Those were some crazy, interrelated lives. I hope this town lives on: it is the town with a bunch of waystones that state laws and a ton of maps everywhere.

When I'm born into a big city as a girl, I will often grab a berry and run away as soon as I turn three and "Eve" it as they say. One advantage of this is that you get an extra 11 minutes to get things going before you have to even worry about raising kids.

Usually, my goal is to find a good spot and make my fire-making tools by the time I find it. This time, I set out with a different goal; I set out in search of a nice prairie next to a grassland. I made the fire tools and made two nooses and started hunting rabbits to make backpacks.

By the time I had my kids , I almost had a backpack done and I had cooked rabbits to eat. Every time I had a kid, I just told it that I'm a nomadic rabbit hunter and I was working on a backpack for them in our temporary camp.

One of my daughters was very cooperative, and started running around grabbing up rabbits while I raised babies and enjoyed sewing by the fire.

My idea behind this was that if a couple of kids had backpacks, tools,  and baskets starting out, they would have a higher chance of success when looking for a good settlement location. Once they found one, they would be able to get things going really quickly with a large inventory space and tools already made.

I got old by my campfire and my kids inherited plenty of nice tools. I think there were two or three of them with backpacks, baskets, and a little bit of clothing. I told my kids that I was going to die of old age at my camp, and that they should move on in search of the promised land.

And guess what?! They went on to continue the lineage for 40+ generations. I was a generation 40 something girl, so my split effectively doubled our Eve's lineage. The town I left behind actually didn't survive much longer after I left.

I just wanted to share my story:) Try out this play-style or let me know if you already have. Alternatively, comment your interesting stories if you feel like sharing!

Well, I see some recurring themes. Examples: suggestions for how the game could be updated, opinions about how people should conduct themselves in-game, stories about in game experience, posts of a tutorial nature, opinions about recent updates, etc.

See subject line. The topics covered here are many and varied; it is surprising that there aren't forum categories or something of that nature.

I'm sure people will have different suggestions on what the categories would be, but I think we can all agree that categories would be very helpful.

If this functionality exists and I am missing it, please enlighten me.

pein wrote:

Drama queen:
only plays as girl
wanders around the camp, looking and begging for clothing and knife
raises babies while eating
generally provokes someone then spends her life to curse that person and convince his kids to curse
at 40 either dies or runs around telling people to bury her.

Baby assassin:
sees a kill, spends his life to snipe a player out, and that reason justifies for him to not work 30-40 minutes, generally kills a few more.

Roleplay doctor: saves everyone, saves the griefers multiple times
generally just makes pads all her life denying wool clothing and compost

The always late:
does everything the camp needs, just too late
generally asks for knife to be a sheperd, but is too slow so someone needs to do it properly, then he claims he is the shepherd
if you make a cart, he takes it in 2 seconds, if you make a farm plants random things into it
if you bring a branch , he makes kindling out of it
if you ever question it, he either preaches about how this is a community, to justify taking everything as "sharing" or starts insulting you

The feminazi:
starves boys, even kills them, tells people to kill based on gender.

Pedro the kidnapper:
grabs babies and runs away with them, he is naked all his life, generally makes a bow but pretty easy t dodge, he denies everything.

The "baker"
takes every cart, every box, every rope to the 'kitchen"
makes pies from whatever
fires up oven for 3 pies even
does this any life, every life, any level of civilization

The "hunter"
her mom tells her he needs to hunt, even names him that way
he spends his life killing pigs and bringing back pig meat, and running around in city with a bow
generally kills someone by accident

The royal:
Spends 30 minutes to make a crown then walk around  the city
generally gives another crown to a random baby girl
Kills anyone who has problem with it and starts cursing.
Causes half of the population to stop working.
Generally talks 20 minutes about what should be done but never gets done anything.

The survivor:
can eat, that's it. Survives anytime, anywhere, hides food for herself behind trees.

The task follower:
Can get anything from anywhere, but cant see the bigger picture so needs constant instructions. Can spend his life doing the same thing: getting firewood, getting clay, branches, iron, rabbit etc.

Carrot waterer: if seeds seeds plants them and waters them, never returns to the spot to pick them out, generally does this 3-4 times a life.

The stew maker: makes stew every time, every life, explains stew, even without a crock, takes the kindling from the forge to make stew, makes only crocks at forge, people kill each other or no soil? he just makes stew

Overly attached girl:
Goes for asking a job and follows a person around all life,  learns a job then does it for the full life. teaches her kids to do that job only. I seen quite a few nice ones who yell "uncle " every time they see you, and "we are ranchers" when sees a sheep. They are pretty nice.

Headless horsemen:
Just takes a horse and runs around with it all life. Similar to crown makers. No use of them and just occupies a tool from others.

The abandoned kid: left alone cause expects her mother will carry her all her childhood, generally saved by some older dude. Spends 40 minutes to make a marked grave even if others die around her. Spends the rest of time eating berry and gearing kids with clothes she didn't made.

The grave digger: brings back bones to camp and digs them, generally in a big box shaped graveyard. Destroys multiple shovels cause needs to "bury my cousins and ancestors ". The whole camp starves in meantime.  steps on a snake bringing back flat rocks.

This is so accurate

unfortunately Jason is too busy tinkering on major changes to core mechanics, fancy tech & bugs lol
making everyday life worth the effort ? nah
teaching newbz to live a fun life ? nah
but if you're lucky you might live to a new weapon lol

Yep. Jason has a lot on his plate, I imagine.
I do think life is worth living in the game. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I make it to old age and have a productive life.
However, the learning curve is really steep in this game, and there aren't a lot of video resources of a tutorial nature.

There is the wiki, of course, but some people aren't very prone to reading. Furthermore, I've noticed many wiki pages are incomplete or incorrect, and that the sheer number of pages dedicated to intermediate items (items that are steps towards the creation of other items) makes for a confusing navigation network.

Hence, my post on this forum and on YouTube.

more like "oh this game should be fun after you learn it but im so embarassed", he told me that he has 9 hours

i also seen the gen 70 town die out, my sis was making compost so had a good fov and understanding of compost importance but she thought that wool clothing is a hat and doesn't recognize shoes and she starved somehow

lot of us were playing a straight week and die a lot until we learned how to farm and stay alive wherever, but then was simpler

maybe we would need player made challenges, like solo maps
a sandbox where you need to pruduce enough X to go out of a building and people could twin up with mentors to do them

I couldn't agree more! A sandbox creative mode or challenge mode would be so valuable as a learning tool. I know I would love to play in a singleplayer sandbox where I could experiment with city designs.

Nice video!  This actually makes for a nice video of how to make things from the ground up, without using any advantages that the tutorial area offers.

Here's some more things about that area.  You can complete a stone hatchet and a rabbit snare before you reach the tutorial area.  It's a bit strange to me that there don't exist any curved branches to make a fire bow drill also at present, but that's what we have.  Also, you skipped some boxes.  In particular there's a box with firewood and kindling.  In my opinion, it's worth the time to turn that into a sledge, and then drag it to the smithing area.  That way you can get a large slow fire early on!  Of course though, that won't happen in any settlement starting from scratch.

Also, I think hot coals take two minutes to cool off.  So, you don't need to immediately throw kindling on them to keep a fire going.

I like your two kiln system and you showed off the basic tools.  Well done!

Hey, thanks Spoonwood! Truth be told, I had totally forgotten about the firewood in that box. And to your second comment, I would agree that if you don't want to restart your fire and you don't have firewood, you should let your coals cook a little before adding another tinder.

Thanks for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!:)

If you're like me, the first time you played the tutorial you probably fumbled around for a bit, lit the torch, and eagerly jumped into the world with other players. You might have noticed there's another area you can go into, but you had no idea what to do in there.

Unfortunately, this is not enough to prepare new players to become productive members of society. New players, bless their hearts, tend to waste resources and get themselves and others killed.

For these reasons, I made a video showing how to craft many of the important items from OHOL, all of which can be practiced in the tutorial! I also show how to escape the tutorial and I even show how to mine a vein of iron.

Show this video to a newb and make all of our lives better. smile

But no one is saying that? Obviously no one is going to pay $5 for a life. Even if Jason thought that before, its totally irrelevant because he has clearly departed from that model. You don't even have to pay for the game, just to play on his servers, and its never been pay per life. You two are harping on an issue that was never actually a problem. If the game isn't fun for you now, then come back after future updates or don't. I don't know about your playtime, but I know at my playtime, and Rage's, we have certainly gotten our $20 worth. I have netflix, I have soundcloud go, and a few other online services. These all cost about $10 a month and im a pretty average user of both. The average netflix user watches 40 hours a month. A movie ticket costs around ten dollars. A cheap meal at a cheap restaurant is about that much. To get 500 hours of entertainment out of $20 is a fantastic deal. To get 100 hours from $20 still outpaces a the vast majority of entertainments and enjoyable things in life. When you bought this game you knew that one person was making it, and that he was going to work on it alone for potentially the entire development, management, and support of the game, and that like all humans he has a limited time in each day to do all of those tasks.

I've gotten my $20 worth, never said I hadn't. I am simply informing you that your all caps reply wherein you called another forum member "entitled, screeching, ... [and with his] head up [his] ass" was not even a response to the actual point he was making. It was a minor point tangential to his main argument, and you decided to focus on it and pretend that he and I are under the delusion that pay-per-life is the current business model. Grow up, talk to others with respect, and stop straw-manning people's arguments.

Truthfully, if someone has played for 500 hours they have gotten their money's worth. 100% agree there. It's your lack of courtesy that is off-putting.

Yes, and that never came to pass, literally no one has ever payed per life on this game. If you read closer, my calculation was for his cost per hour of playtime, I didn't assume how many lives he has lived. He clearly stated that he is not getting enough percieved value out of this game, which is absurd because he has played this game as much as he has stated he has. Also, btw, you don't smash the caps lock, its a toggle, not a pulse. You might say, smash the shift button wink.

I was picturing you hitting your caps lock button once as hard as possible, so I wouldn't change what I said. I did see your calculation, but your reply missed his point; he's saying (1) the game isn't fun anymore, and (2) the idea that it could be worth $5 per life is laughable. I agree on his second statement, and I am trying to figure out if I think the game is still fun.

Give me a break i might be new to this forum but i am not new to this game i have probably put in 500 hours. Sure i could stay alive and not starve, but that does not mean it is fun or that i could be productive and get anything useful accomplished. Just because you have a thing for jason and his vision does not mean that everyone else does. This game is NOT FUN.

your hero jason was saying how he first intended to charge five dollars for one life on this game, i wouldn't pay 5 cents.

he has also said that he didn't intend this game to be played for long periods of time that a few lives would be worth the 20 bux. I say bullshit. I pay 20 bux for games like morrowind and i expect to play FOREVER as long as i want, and i also expect there to be quality in the game and it to be fun.

rage wrote:

Well, at 500 hours, and $20, you have now paid exactly $0.04 per hour for a game. FOR TWENTY DOLLARS, YOU HAVE GOTTEN OVER FIVE HUNDRED HOURS OF PLAYTIME. THERE ARE AAA GAMES THAT COST OVER SEVENTY DOLLARS THAT YOU GET AT BEST, A FEW DOZEN HOURS OF PLAYTIME. You need to have realistic expectations, and if you had bothered to you know, get on the forums in your "500 hours of playtime", and read even a few of Jasons posts, you wouldve seen this coming. This was always his vision for the game, for it to be hard. Entitled screeching just shows how far up your own ass your head is. Jason is one person, and can only really work on one thing at a time, also, you will not have forever replay-ability of this game, as he stated from the outset of this that he intended to do weekly updates for about two years. Its incredibly easy to set up your own private server now with AWBZ mod, and even easier to join some other server. Like others have stated, the game is not impossible now, there are already many towns. Eveing is harder, but it should be hard, you're bootstrapping a civilization.
