You ever witness any discrimination against Twins. I feel like a lot of people are bitter towards twins they had bad experiences in the past.

I would have to say no. Once we were asked if we were griefers and we said no. Other times, villagers or our mom has said there wasn't enough food for twins. We totally understand that and willingly suicide in those cases.

Last night (EST in the US), Drake and Josh West were born to a lovely mom named North West. Was her mom Kim Kardashian? They didn't know, but the village was not that prosperous. It had a forge and a mid sized berry farm. Mom told them that the village needed baskets and an oven. A crazy old aunt yelled at them for making omelettes and told them to farm instead. "Boys should farm."

"She's a weirdo!" Drake secretly told Josh.

Josh was obsessed with omelettes for a bit, then he saw a bow and wanted to make an arrow. Drake told him how. So Josh killed a wolf, three mouflon, and a boar with his one arrow. Meanwhile, Drake helped to farm, build an oven, and kept Josh fed as he ran around with his bow and arrow, killing animals. He kept asking questions like, "Can I kill a rabbit with this? Can I kill a penguin? What happens if I hit the bear cave?"
"Oh Josh," Drake thought. "Haven't we all tried to kill a penguin..."

Josh started asking what to do with the carcasses of all the dead mouflon. He wanted a knife to butcher it. So Drake crafted two knives, one for each. And also to help deter future griefers. Then they butchered the mouflons and took the mutton to the oven Drake had built. There some nieces and nephews who had started making pies, as well as continued the omelette making station. They gladly took the raw mutton.

Mom found Josh with the bow and arrow and asked him to kill her. Josh asked Drake, on the side, if he should. Drake said it was up to him, but he raced to try to be there to be a witness or to feed him if anything happened. But he couldn't find Josh. Meanwhile, Mom fed Josh just before he killed her, to help him. She confessed to killing others and said she deserved to die. Thankfully only one other person witnessed the kill and it was obvious that it was what North West had wanted. RIP Mom.

After that, Drake saw his older sister Southern building a sheep pen while caring for her baby. He decided to help. After all, they already had knives to cull the sheep. When they finished, she asked if he could bring back a lamb. Excited for a quest, he told his twin who still had a bow and arrows. Josh was even more excited to kill another mouflon. First they needed a rope to get the lamb. Drake had to go very far south to find four wild milkweed and then return north to find where Josh was wandering.

It took awhile to find a mouflon who was still alive after Josh's killing spree of them earlier, but finally one appeared. They tracked it until it had a baby, then it was dead and Drake was pulling the lamb toward the sheep pen. Southern had gathered bowls of food for the lamb, so he fed it after he released it. Soon it grew up and had a lamb of its own, which grew up to be a domestic sheep. The process was complete!

Now in their 50s, the twins hid their knives and went to the berry farm in the north. The village had various forms of food, many tools, and a sheep farm. They were well on their way to being a great town. They looked forward to farming in their old age.

But then Southern came to Drake and told him that a troll/griefer had been born. She was still a kid, but she was already wrecking havoc. He got his knife and went down to see what she was talking about. Sure enough, the kid had a pie and was running in circles trying to avoid anyone who might harm her. Whenever she talked, the background was in black, which indicated she had been cursed in a past life. So, clearly, nobody wanted her there. He tried to get her, but she wouldn't stop moving. He had to eat again, too soon. He was an old man after all. So ol' Southern picked up the knife and finished the job.

When the celebration ended, the twins again collected eggs for the town and ended their lives a bit earlier than expected due to all the clutter on the ground.

Looking back on the family tree, it went on for 7 more generations, which is pretty cool! I hope the future generations enjoyed all the sheep.

Aw, that's awesome! I'm so glad you noticed my post! I found the screenshots that I took and I see that a granddaughter actually got my clothes and backpack. I thought I remembered giving it to Hap, but he may have given it to her instead. Anyway, I'm glad we beat the griefers. They probably starved themselves after they thought all the girls were dead and then were like, "D*** it!" When they saw the family tree site smile

Dear Mama,

I was born into the wilderness. It was just you, me, and my big brother Eastan. You were nameless and you told me that you had run away from your town because there was a murderer. I resolved to ask you where that village was, once I was old enough to talk in more than 1 or 2 letters.

When I was 2 years old, you were gored by a boar and said, "Sorry bby," with your last breath. You had on some clothes, a backpack, and you had brought a few pies, a bowl, a basket, an axe, and a hoe. I went down to a desert area to get my temp at perfect in order to live long enough to be able to feed myself because Eastan was no where to be seen. And it worked!

I ate berries, onions, and pie as I farmed and built a forge. I had 6 kids - 5 girls and 1 boy. Three of the girls died as babies. They wandered off. The other two survived and had babies of their own. Sadly, my only son, Orion, died at 16. He was exploring and didn't have any food on him, I guess. Luna and Tulsi were faithful at working, having kids, and staying alive.

By the time I got old, we had a ton of plates, bowls, a crock pot, and the farm was growing. We had a lot of food. Mama, you picked a great spot near lots of soil, water, clay, and berry bushes.

Before I died I forged a stone hammer and then made an axe, since the one you brought had broken long ago.

As I contemplated death, I decided to give my clothes and backpack to my grandson, Hap. He seemed a capable chap. And looking back on the family tree, I see that he proved himself as he lived to 60.

And Mama, the family went on for 10 generations after me. I think we can call that a success. I can only imagine what it looked like in its heyday. But when I have some time, I will upload photos of what the village looked like when I was nearing 60. I also wonder if any of them found the village that you ran from.

-Your nameless bby smile

P.S. Who would like to start a thread where we post screenshots of a specific village as it grows with each generation? The first to post one should be the Eve of that village before shoe dies and then the next should taken by her kid when it grows to at least 40 (you'll know it because that's when you get your first gray hair) and so on and so forth.

#12 Re: Main Forum » The mono diet » 2018-06-08 14:13:14

This is a fascinating topic for me, personally, because I work with RDs and LDNs at a university with a prominent nutrition program. Jason, if you have any specific nutrition related questions, I can ask them for you or give you their email addresses or phone numbers.

But as a gamer, food consumer, and coworker of RDs, I would say that the best and simplest solution to me seems to be giving each character, when they are born, a randomly assigned, preferred food.

For example, if someone was born with a preference for corn, then corn would satisfy that craving more than any other food. This person would not know they had a corn preference until they tried a few different foods. And since everyone in the village would have a variety of preferences, then a variety of food would need to be grown.

This is also interesting too, because if an Eve spawned in with a carrot preference, and then was reborn in the village later, that player could have a berry preference in the next life. Therefore, it would behoove everyone to grow a variety of food for the future of the village and their future lives.

I guess it could get really complicated with more complex foods. But perhaps someone who has a predisposition to enjoy corn, will love corndogs even more? And of course, most people should love anything sugary, although too much sugar is also bad.

The thing about nutrition is... everything in moderation. Even if you LOVE corn, you still have to eat other foods in order to keep enjoying corn to your fullest capacity.

Unless, your favorite food happens to encapsulate all the foods you need... Such as pizza. I am eagerly awaiting the OHOL pizza party. Everyone making their own toppings to add to the pizza could be super fun!

I watched my family tree and you were murdered too. Justice was served. And my baby was saved by some kind soul. I can only hope she got my stuff, just as I intended.

I found something that may be a bug or may be on purpose. I put a chisel on a grave (to mark it, I hoped) but it was placed where the rose is supposed to go. When I tried to pick it back up, I picked up the flat rock instead. So I put it back and the chisel was gone! I think it might have been gone when I picked up the flat rock.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Jason's Murder Problem Thread » 2018-06-01 17:50:42

Jason doesn't want the game to solve our problems for us. What if we solved our own problems (with an in game solution that he would still have to code... heh)?

And by that, I mean, perhaps Jason could create a way for some towns people to become doctors by creating a potion or bandage to put on a person after they are injured, as long as it took place within a certain number of seconds after the attack, they could be saved.

This potion and/or bandage could be either really easy to make or really hard. Making it really hard would give people something else to do.

Perhaps the bandage could be easy and the potion could be super hard and take a long time - and only last once?
The potion could restore a person to normal health and a normal lifespan, but the bandage would only give a person 10 or so more years, so long as they keep putting another one on every 5 years? So even though it is simple to make, it is not the most convenient solution.

Sure, some griefers may get their hands on a potion, which could be an issue. A way to prevent that could be to only allow the maker to use it on themself or someone else or to pass it on to someone. If they were killed and, for some reason, didn't use it on themself, the potion would shatter on the ground and disappear into the ground. Not sure what to do about the bandage... You guys have any ideas?

I suppose this also means the potion would have to be carried in one hand at all times or in a backpack. I'm not sure if this is really logistically possible, but I like the idea of having a healer/doctor.

#16 Re: Main Forum » Check if these numbers make sense » 2018-05-31 18:14:49

I have tried calculating it, but most people just ruin all the plans anyway. It takes so long to explain and justify - then the player dies or someone else waters the crops. Since there is limited time to communicate and play, only those who are pro players are really going to understand and/or care.

The best solution I have found, for now, is to tell everyone to only take water from the cisterns. Then those people who are experienced are well diggers and cistern filler-uppers.

As for game/coding wise - in the real world, any water we drink or use to water on crops is never lost or destroyed. It will eventually become water again. Although, fresh water is not necessarily a guarantee. Something like this could be developed for the game... any water we use on crops should come back as water in a pond or well within a set amount of time. And it should be a nearby water source, possibly within 5-10 tiles? I would think that every water used for a farm should come back within 60 minutes. And it seems like this might be the simplest solution for the water equation...

I also think it could be interesting if water evaporated from a bowl if carried more than a certain number of tiles. 10 tiles in a desert and 20 in a savanna, for example. And then that water returned to a nearby water source within 60 minutes of evaporating.

I was your son Blu and you asked me and my little sister about Estan or Eastan (we weren't really twins, but okay - you can say Irish twins).

I was like ?

Soon after that I died because my coworker interrupted me hmm

First of all, Jason, thank you. I know I already emailed you that and you graciously replied, but I wanted to say it again.

I know you are hard at work thinking and building and coding more water related things. What about introducing rivers (or larger bodies of water like a small ocean?) so we can build ships to sail on and fish from? I can see something in the future about having to protect the rivers or they'll get permanently polluted... That could be a fascinating thing to watch. Other creatures in the water could also make sailing ships dangerous. And potentially impossible until more advanced tech is introduced?

Can we also have some new items in the game that are super hard to create, but really fun and showy to accomplish? I saw a post of yours about fireworks. What about that? Maybe more gold wearables would be easier/faster?

Would you like anyone to volunteer time to help create and/or hash out new items on a private discussion board?

#19 Re: Main Forum » New idea: twins » 2018-05-31 17:37:14

I love this idea from both sides - being born as a twin and as a player who is a mother sometimes.

As a mother, twins is undoubtedly harder. However, it would be great if the chance of twins was upped once a woman was in the "twilight of child bearing" years. One could assume she would be a bit more established by then and would gladly welcome twins.
I have been in the situation before where, as an Eve (or a person who ran away from her mom who had a terrible home location), I was building up and too busy / didn't have enough food for babies until I was older. If I had twins in such a situation once I was more established, I'd be really happy to have two kids. Especially if one or both were girls!
I would also love it because the chances of them being able to preserve what I created are higher if they are friends or able to communicate with each other better than other random players.

From a twin perspective, I like it because it sounds fun and novel! Plus, it would help me get friends and other newbies into the game.

#20 Re: News » Update: What Grave is This? » 2018-05-19 05:13:49

I love this update! I've been wanting a grave marker and this is just as good.
My work around before, whenever I wondered if someone has died, I usually checked the family tree site. This is still helpful, especially if I can't find a grave or someone moved it.

My mother didn’t have a last name. She named me Maria and I had an older brother. Where they were living was a bad spot. There was barely enough for one, so as soon as I was a 3 year old, I struck out on my own. I bravely ventured through desserts, mountains, and snow until I found another pasture with lots of berries, a huge savanna with rabbits galore, but only one pond.

I made my camp near the most berry bushes and made the rudimentary tools. I trapped rabbits and made clothes for me and my daughter. I had 3 sons who died and 2 daughters, one of whom lived. I named her Gaia with the hope that she would continue the line.

Once Gaia grew old enough, she had two sons and two daughters. The two sons died and then we struck out with her and the two daughters to find more ponds. I was old by then, but I had a backpack full of water pouches and food.

Sadly, my daughter died and soon after the youngest daughter died. I told the oldest to "Quickly follow" me. Using my knowledge of the area, I found a berry bush and fed her berries until she was old enough to eat herself. I told her about the land and that she needed to travel to find a better place. I gave her all my clothes and my backpack. She promised she would survive and have daughters once she settled. I hope she did.

As I post this, she is still living her life and probably in her teenage years.

Mother, if you're reading this - know that your line survived to your great granddaughter (and probably beyond).

I'm also having the same issue - playing on a MacBook Pro. I had no issues last night, but this morning after it forced me to restart the game after downloading the update - I can't open it anymore.

Not sure how to run the game with that suggestion. If I have the game in my applications folder, what should I paste into my terminal window? Thanks.
