#226 Re: Main Forum » we have stackable carrots! » 2019-03-01 22:09:13

A town I was in yesterday, I had 2 wood boxes in between the berry farm and carrot farm. We also made wheat nearby and the compost was made right there.. I had 4 baskets in each and tried to keep all filled with carrots. Keeping 8 baskets full made it easy to produce poop and have plenty of compost going. I tried to keep between 8-10 piles of compost at all times.  I had a problem with people wanting to steal those baskets, especially young kids.

I had 4 baskets set out refilling with carrots to take up to the wood box. A lady came and snatched a basket up, I told her to leave it, it gets filled with carrots and goes in the box above.  She said well, I need it. I said so do I. I made them, brought them down here and am clearly using them. Go find another, or make another one. She started to walk off with it, I pulled my knife out and chased her until she dropped it lmao.. No one messed with my baskets afterwards! haha I hate when people clearly see I have things laid out to use on what I'm working on and they think they can just come up and take what you have because they are working on something too. Like seriously, I will get all stabby on you!

When I am fully clothed head to toe, my temp meter looks like that picture above.. I can tell a difference on how much I eat naked vs clothed. Being clothed I do not lose food bars as fast.

Try it with hat, socks and all.

The lives I had played the past few days have mostly given me boys. Anyone else not spawning many girls?

My first life today, I had 2 boys and 1 girl. My daughter only had 1 child (a boy).

The last life I lived today I had all boys, and somehow I became the nanny of other babes while feeding my kids, all those were boys also. Not sure if there were any girls left when I died to keep the village going.

Olivia Countryman, I almost didn't keep you. I hate being born a girl because I like a lot of tasks that keep me out in the wild collecting things. This time it was iron mining.  I'm glad I decided to keep you at the last moment, you became a very productive person for the village! I mined almost my whole life. That town is now stocked full of iron! I had 3 kids in total, 1 I couldn't keep, I was way to far from the village, and your other brother who was killed by a bear at 10. When I died, you were my last surviving child. Sorry I almost let you die. wink

#230 Re: Main Forum » Leaving one berry.... » 2019-02-26 18:52:17

I've been in quite a few towns where someone was telling everyone to leave one berry on all the berry bushes in the farm.. They actually started arguing with me when I told them no, to empty a bush first before moving to the next full bush so that they can be soiled and watered. I told them that's a good way to kill babes, elders, and run out of anything needing berries.

They would get mad and say I was griefing when I grabbed a bowl to empty the single berry bushes. (which was pretty much the whole berry farm at that point!)

You can use a flint chip to get the squash out of the ground, so the sharp stone is not strictly needed.

Thank you! I did not realize this.. That will be one less thing I have to keep hunting down! smile

Are there any good videos of the stew farm? I only vaguely know what's going on with that. I try to bring soil and a bucket of water because I don't know what is needed there.

I'm not sure, I had a well right next to the stew farm, so I didn't need water. What I listed is pretty much what the farm requires for a pot of stew.  Usually I request anyone near not to touch anything in the stew farm area unless they are making stew. I keep my area tidy, so everything there, is what's needed and nothing more.

Flint chip for corn
Sharp stone and hatchet (or axe) for squash
round stone for beans

Plate for squash and beans
2 bowls required for beans (corn only requires 1 bowl)
Soil to replant.   I replant squash seed right away or they disappear and you have to make a run to try to find more, which can be hard to locate sometimes.

I get all the stew farm tools together (Plate, 2 bowls, flint chip, round stone, sharp stone, and hatchet, basket and a pile of soil) I take full pot up to be cooked, come back to make another pot; I'm missing a bowl. Run to find another bowl, come back I'm missing my hatchet. Go to find my hatchet, come back and my sharp stone and a bowl is gone.  I started bitching at everyone near my stew farm.. I get everything together again, take second pot to be cooked, come back and they are collecting my 2 bowls and plate to take to kitchen!

I love stew farming, but this happens every time.. Drives me insane!!

Maybe berry farms should be kept small and not massive like villages have them.  Just a few planted in between the bakery and the pen. If a village does not have a lot of berry bushes planted maybe it will force people to go and do something else. There is no need for the berry farms to be as huge as I have been seeing them. It just encourages people to stand around eating them. Wastes a lot of soil and water too.

Teach kids at a young age that the berry farm is not for food. If they die of starvation because they do not know how to survive without berries, eventually they'll have to learn a new way of playing to keep themselves alive.

I guess if need be, another SMALL patch of berries could be planted by the nursery, just for toddlers and the elders. The den mother would have to start shooing people away from eating those berries after a certain age.   If they do not listen, kill them.. They are dead weight to the village and will bring the village down.

I have no problem going to Donkey town for a bit. I enjoy playing by myself at times. lol

#237 Re: Main Forum » We NEED more storage options » 2019-02-17 10:09:39

My baby almost died of starvation because I was trying to get him clothing from some bones and picked up a sharp stone that was in the backpack.. I had to search like crazy for a free tile to lay it on. Everything was cluttered everywhere. That drives me insane!

The thing that grates my nerves the most is milkweed and carrot seed scattered everywhere in abundance throughout the whole village! Find a spot on the outskirts of the village just for things like that. Would make village life a tad easier.

It would be nice if the wooden boxes could be filled up with 10 or so seeds, even a new item called a "seed box" or "seed sack", when filled it just looks like a container filled with a pile of seeds.

Seed sack

I love all of your ideas, especially the tool rack! We could have one at each station and fill it with tools that is used in that area.

I would love to see an update dedicated to storage and stacking.  Maybe that could be the next update to smooth over the distaste a lot of people are having for the temp update. wink

#238 Re: Main Forum » Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh my! Nubs, griefers, & dead weight oh no! » 2019-02-17 08:26:38

Overpopulation is a big problem.. You need to have population control, however, its hard to do because many die young and you risk having no girls. I just got finished with a full life in a decent established village, there was no standing around and talking, everyone old enough to keep enough hunger to adventure out and get things we need were non stop working.. The den mothers and babes stayed by the fire and berry farm.. So many babies depleted all the berries, and so many bushes depleted the soil. You are correct we were going through resources like crazy. Everyone pitched in to keep food, water, soil, farms, and the babes clothed.

However, I did have to make a few runs for more squash seeds because they would not replant the seed..  I think that has to do with the person making stew being fairly new.

As I was about to die, the village was falling apart. So much stuff needs to be done, and when you have many new players in a village, it's not going to get done, it just causes more work, chaos and a shortage on food and resources.

You now have to be selective on how many babies you keep and which ones.. Kind of sucks for the new players, but I'll weed them out in hopes to get players who know how to work and help keep the village going.

You can't keep every child anymore. IMO

Thank you, I will mess around with the files to see if I can figure it out.

I appreciate the help. smile

#240 Re: Main Forum » how were you all playing before? » 2019-02-16 22:25:09

I made it to 54, came back from rabbit hunting, and starved looking for food after unloading the recent rabbit run.. Over population and a lot of new players helped pick clean all the food in the camp (which was well established) as well as all the food in the wild nearby.. I was 54 so I couldn't make it too far in the wild before I died looking for food. We had a lot of workers working to keep everything going, yet it did not help keep me from starving.

Population control and weeding out the non-productive players from the productive players will be a big factor in keeping a village going.. If not it's going to be hard keeping food around.

#241 Re: Main Forum » An Open Letter About The New Update » 2019-02-16 21:52:18

I was just playing in a well established town and still starved because when I came back to town (I rabbit hunted my whole life) there was no food.. Everyone was working, but with everyone having to eat so much, it was hard to keep up with food. Kind of pissed me off. At least I made it to 54 and clothed quiet a few people as well as contribute a ton to pie making.  It needs tweaked a tad. He can still make it harder, but not extreme. I do like the idea of clothes and building becoming more important in the game, but we can't spend our whole lives in buildings just to keep up with food production.

I had to let all my babies die, we were having a hard enough time as it was, couldn't afford more mouths to feed.  Definitely will be very selective on my babies I keep and watching out for population control.. Which sucks for the people just trying to play a game, its going to be harder for them to find a mother who will keep them.

Does this get extracted into the OHOL folder? I have zoom out mod, but I don't want to get the 2 start ups mixed up or mess up the zoom out file.

Also, there is another server that I had played on a few times, they have hunger pretty much turned off and dying of old age turned off. Would anyone know how I would go about doing that?  Not too worried about hunger, as I would like to get used to the temp system, but the dying of old age turned off would be nice..

#243 Re: Main Forum » Eve Problems? » 2019-02-16 18:17:24

It's still there, I found it last night as an eve.  A couple more Eves and a child or two came along while we were there. Me and my daughter (twitch streamer, WolfOfOldin) disconnected about the same time. So we weren't there long. Everything looked intact and not destroyed while I was there.  The other eves and their children probably disconnected also.

I had a feeling it was probably someone's work in progress village. It was too nice of a village and not like the ones you normally get spawned into.

I was sad to have gotten disconnected from it, but I'm happy also. I would hate to see your hard work get destroyed by other players doing things you did not intend for your village.

Pretty awesome village! I hope you can find it again to continue your work on it.  smile

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/381316582  We were there around 02:45:00 in this video. (pretty much the very end of the video)
